WM5.0 advice? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hello I've been reading your forum for the past days and I've read so manyy comments I just get more and more confused.
Has anyone tried some WM5.0 ROMS and can explain me if there's one better then another?
Which ones are still in develpment?
What are the newest ones?
I'm really that newb
Thanks in advance
teh CORE

Which one is best is really quite a can of worms... it depends what you're after really!! (Stability, functionality, added apps, speed, get my drift?)
The newest ones are the AKU2.3 versions... they are all less than a week old (more like 2-3 days!) and are still in their infancy, although surprisingly stable all things considered!! (I use one of these and have had no issues...)
Popular ROM's are the TuMa ROMS (1.3 and 1.4), and the Ivan 4.3 ROM with RAMDisk that thingonaspring produced...
Just try them and see what you think
Read the threads, just search for TuMa/Logout/Ivan or AKU2.3, you'll find plenty to read

Have you read the wiki?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
the blue angel wiki...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
and the wm5 wiki...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Home
That said and done i would try all of them. There's a forum for each one. Try tuma 1.3, then try logout 5.4.05, then try ivan 1.11 w/ ramdisk, then if you want to try Helmi aku2.3 but know that it's still in development.
If you want something stable. Stick with ivans. Or if you don't mind the slowness, go with logouts. Each has bugs, the bugs are already posted in the forums for each rom. It's GOING to be slower than wm5, But you get used to it.
When upgrading also know that downgrading can be a *****, but isn't too hard if you read and keep your files separate and clean. Also learn to use editfix.bat. Make a master copy that has your phone info and you can run it on any wm5 rom to make the upgrade without errors.

Whats the best update?

Hello all!
New to the site and new to my xda 11s.
Just a couple of quick questions, what is the best update on here for my xda? Read a couple of people who have posted on here about thier updates and dont really know if i should update it at all?
Also, is there software availible from this site?
Be glad for all your views
Cheers
Ian
Welcome at xda-developers.com,
You can find answers to all of your quiestions in WIKI
ok, just took a look, and ill be quite honest with you, all kinda confusing lol
All im reaaly interested in is if its worth ugrading the software to wm5. I have read good and bad poins about it, like, runs slow, not everythin works, etc
Dont wantg to ruin the handset so other peoples opinions are helpful to me
Cheers
You can try upgrading to WM5, and if you do not like it you can always downgrade to the latest WM2003SE rom there are few good versions of WM5 in the ftp try them and decide which OS you like more
TuMa 1.3, IMOA.
Seems the most stable WM5 ROM, though it does have one of two annoying bugs they are no worse then what WM2003SE has. It's not the fastest on a new install but it doesn't slow down much once you start using it.
cheers matey. Which version do you run?
ok, thanx again for that. Could you possibly paste a link into this or give me some directions on where i can get it from?
TuMa 1.3

There is a cool WIKI guide on how to install and use this ROM at -
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_WizardPort_v1.3-TuMa
There is also a new version of this ROM being developed (1.5 as 1.4 was too buggy) but this isnt in Alpha mode yet, so you might want to upgrade to 1.3 now and wait till 1.5 has been tested and becomes stable.
are there any other upgrades?

Newbie -ROM Version and upgrade question

:?
I am a newbie with an O2 XDA Mini S
ROM Version:1.1.7.5
ROM date:9/22/05
Radio Version:01.08.10
Protocol Version:4.0.13.18
Ext ROM Version:1.1.7.105
Would like to know which is the best ROM version and procedures to update the ROM And is it possible to install a different manufactures ROM such t-mobile,qtec etc to this 02 Device !!
Pls Guide me through !
Thanks.
Xdawiz,
...cute name for a newbie! The people here expect you to do your research (and I don't blame them!!) ....that means combing through posts as others before you did. This does take time and energy. For procedures to upgrade a ROM I suggest you do a search as there are quite a few posts that tell you how to do it (hint: including one of mine).
The best ROM version??? No one will be able to tell you that becasue it depends on what you are looking for and what you use your phone for and how many problems are you willing to deal with. Do you want the latest and greatest?? Summiters Cingualr AKU 2.3 is awesome! 8) Some of the older ones though have had more testing time and therefore have been refined more. Try going through the AKU2.3 thread and seeing what some of the issues are and if they are ones you can work with. Many of them already have fixes that are quick and easy. Also...maybe look at the "Mr. Clean" AKU 2.3 thread and see whats going on with that one as it does not have any carrier custimizations.
...the only question I can not answer is using a Cingular ROM for an O2 device. Never payed much attention to it since I am a Cingular customer - but the issue is addressed in the thread - read carefully I think you'll find good news!!!
If you want to upgrade your phone and you want to do it right you have to read the threads and the directions!!! There is no easy process. Look at people's IDs and their signatures to see if they are also O2 users.
GOOD LUCK!!!

u can try helmi_c aku3.2 which is the latest rls, very fast and stable. it's a very nice ROM. there is some issue with BlueTooth, but the rest is all good.

Hi Mike,
visit http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel and browse through forum. U know we cant give u any advice if we dont know what are u looking for (any problems, discontent?)
You can upgrade to the latest version of wm2003se (see the wiki) and than consider if u wanna upgrade to wm2005.
i'd say enjoy your unit using wm2003se for a while.
and when the time comes that you are looking for some more, then go for wm5... and the latest radio version.... it would seem like you have a new phone altogether.
I would take a call depending on the way you use your phone. How much of bluetooth you use, how much of wifi, do you use a stereo headset, do you use a GPS attachment, what kind of applications you run etc. Please note that if you go through the the complete threads of a particular post helmi 1.3 or 1.2 or 1.1 you will come to know the advantages and drawbacks of upgrading and can then take a wise call.
Hope this Helps

Dear Sir,
I'm running Ivan V4R3, may i know which is faster if compare with helmi_c aku3.2. And as my know helmi is pre-install some program, can u specfily. Thanks!
Ivans rom with ramdisk is very stable and fast wm5 version, and i lie it a lot, but AKU updates fixes many bugs in the OS and Security of the mobile device, so i prefer latest AKU 2.3, 3.0 3.2 roms.
The best way to get your rom to fit your needs is to build a custom one with Bepe's ktchen
@Mike
First i want to welcome you to the forums, you will learn a lot here as i did!
First step that you have take is to read WIKI, a lot of stuff is explained there. For you there are 2 possible types of roms, WM2003SE or WM5. By mine personal opinion the best roms by now are Ivans v4 r3 with ramdisk, and Helmi's 1.3 AKU 3.2 roms. You can try and decide for yourself.

AKU 3.2 Core Rom? New Custom Rom

Wow, I impressed myself tonight. I read this site every day, and have been doing so since last year when I bought my Cingular 8125. Tonight, I decided to cook my own custom Rom, and low and behold, the flash went perfectly, and all aspects of it installed without a flaw, even the custom extended rom I cooked. I learned all of this by simply reading through these threads.
I'm not too sure what this communities sharing ettiquite is, and would like some opinions and feedback from the authors whos work I borrowed. This Rom will not be shared until I can further personally tweak it. My custom Rom details are as folows....
OS - AKU 3.2 (extracted from Faria's Beta 4 Rom) Faria - I do not want to use, nor will I share this rom, because OS was extracted from your masterpiece. This Rom was just to test, and will not hit anyone elses device.
IPL - 2.26 (extracted from latest T-Mobile Rom)
SPL - 2.26 (extracted from latest T-mobile Rom)
GSM - 2.47 (Again, came from Faria's 3.2 Beta 4)
Extended Rom - My Own - Since I'm Cingular, included the GPRS and MMS settings, also added Memmaid, Battery Status, Wireless today plugin, and Molskis Performance and Registry Tweaks)
I like the simplicity of this rom so far, I have tested everything out there, and some Rom include too many goodies that I dont use, and others dont have enough. This Rom is fast and functinal.
Faria & Molski: I will not share this rom because your hard work and efforts are included in it. I would like to see where I could find the base AKU 3.2 Rom, and start over, so all work and everything included in this Rom is truly original.
Feedback would be great!
if you decide to release this rom for cingular i'd be intersted right now im using molski's 30mb rom on my cingular 8125 and i love it.
So to know that you based some of your rom off his and faria's its like a dream
It's good to hear, more of us should follow your example and read more. There's a lot of people that come into this forum and ask the same questions that have been asked 1000 times and all because they don't bother to read a bit, while there's no such thing as a stupid question..... asking the same questions over and over again is really annoyies most people.
good for you! see what a little searching gets you these days...perhaps others might learn from this (well who am I kidding right?)
I like the respect/props being given to Faria & Molski too...perhaps if you come up with some that great and they both give their consent then others could enjoy your ROM
well done

I think that it's quite obvious. There's so many threads about the same stuff and on the other hand the "Search" really sucks for almost every forum script there is available, also for vBulletin. Some of you write really nice how-to's, they are really much easier to deal with than reading the whole thread with (very necessary) comments like "not working here" between. Wiki would also be better place to keep basic stuff (in this case cooking and updating ROM) data available. My bottom line is (I guess ) The forum structure should be re-designed...something like this:
Wizard: basic questions, usage
Wizard: software
Wizard: accessories
Wizard: ROM updating
G3
G4
Wizard: ROM cooking
G3
G4
Wizard: ROM releases
etc...
Just my opinion, don't kill me And don't get me wrong..you all are doing incredible work here and you deserve all the credits. This all is just too BIG for the current forum structure...

Latest Stable Rom assistance please?

Hey all,
First please let me say I am not looking for anyone to tell me what is the BEST cooked rom out there. I know each one has specific plusses and minuses that are suited to particular purposes.
Also, I have looked through this forum. I have read most of the WIKI, and spent an hour reading through various posts. However, I haven't found a concise discussion of this as many people are focusing on cooked ROMs.
I am getting a Tilt and from my reading so far I am pretty sure I want to reflash it with an HTC Rom. I want the TouchFlo and some of the other stuff that the HTC offers. I have some general questions though:
1) Is there a downside to putting HTC Rom on a Tilt? I know there are some little issues that have solutions (like keyboard remap) but will I experience any instability or call/data quality issues running HTC over ATT ROM?
2) Relating to #1...can/should I just keep the ATT ROM and can I then add everything from the HTC ROM (from cabs?). I don't know which solution yields the best stability.
3) Is there a reason why I would go with a 6.0 ROM instead of 6.1 ROM? I would like to believe that the 6.1 is the newer, better stuff...but maybe not?
4) What is the latest 6.1 official ROM? Is it RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship?
5) When it comes to "official" shipped ROMs and Radio firmware from ATT and HTC, is there any good reason not to use the latest versions? That is are any of the new versions a step backwards in terms of stability/performance?
I do not want to use any cooked firmware (at least initially). I would like to start with a vanilla shipped firmware and then add/remove things myself. If this comes down to me cooking my own ROM so be it, but I would like to start with the basic.
My goal is to have a ROM that will be fast and stable, with as few lock-ups or resets as possible.
Thanks for your assistance.
1)i dont believe so it depends on the radio i believe
2)i think u should flash cuz it'll remove all the atnt junk..bloatware n such
3)it all depends on personal pref...i did cuz i wanted the threaded sms function
4)i dont know.sorry
5)i think they're all pretty much the same..just gotta test the differnt versions to find out
most of the cooked roms i tried arent as bad...not many lockups or resets
i'm still a noob at flashing tho so still trying things out
