Cingular 8125 - ROM Upgrade Help - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I want to upgrade to latest ROM and whatnot.... Im confused what file to download. Important everything works faster and better and bluetooth headset. Its running stock Cingular from day that I bought it... right when it became for sale.... please let me know what to download and install... latest most stable ROM and everything else thats required.....
Thanks!!!

in my opinion...
The best ROM that I've installed on my MDA is the Mr. Clean 2.24a Mr. Clean
2.24.10.1 WWE
02.25.11 Radio version
Great GSM reception and recovery, it loads super fast, the functions are also smooth and fast, WiFi is perfect...lightning fast!!!!
You can find it in the forum of XDA upgrades and more stuff.
Here's the link:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224a_AKU23_WWE.zip
It's seriously awesome.
Remember that you need to CID unlock your phone first, and then it will work like a charm.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

How different from the cingular same version one?
TIA

here are the differences
It doesn't have any of the Cingular logos, settings or anything that is pre-programmed. You have to put in your own settins, and there aren't any annoying settins such as MediaNet which launches when you try to connect via WiFi to the internet, and you know they charge you money for any kb transferred.
It's easy to create your own GPRS connections without any settings already there, and you have a cleaner running OS in the device.
I simply love it and recommend it. 8)

I'm in the same boat as HDD, I have the following specs
8125
ipl : 1.08
spl : 1.08
gsm : 01.16.11
os : 1.8.11.1
currently sim unlocked by lokiwiz0.3 and I about to CID-unlock with lokiwiz 0.2b. The question i have now is if I put in Mr. Clean 2.24a will I be able to go back to a Cingular ROM? or If i put in say Cingular's latest rom, or Tmobile's 2.26 will I be able to go back factory state.
From my searches, anything >= 2.21 roms will not be able to CID unlocked, so still wondering if I should upgrade....

yes you can
You will be able to; as long as the CID is unlocked.

Wizard Radio Rom Only Updaters (Updated Topic)

Running this RUU will only update your Radio Rom. You will not lose any settings.
These are all in English.
2.x Radio Roms are for use with 2.x Bootloaders only.
They don't work with 1.x Bootloaders (IPL/SPL Versions 1.x). The good news is that since it doesn't dork your BootLoader if you goof you can still reflash with your original Rom and recover your device or use the Cingular 1.09.10 Radio Only Rom included here.
How To Use This RUU Package
1. Select the Radio Rom you want:v1.09.10 from Cingular 1.08 Rom.
v2.25.11 from the leaked Cingular 2.25 AKU 2.2 Rom. Several users have reported that this improves their reception.v2.25.11 from the leaked Test T-Mobile (US) 2.24 AKU 2.3 Rom. It is also listed as version 2.25.11 but the file is not an exact match to the Cingular Radio Rom.
v2.07 from Summiter's Cingular 2.17 AKU 2 Rom, which was made using components extracted from a device with what is believed to be the mysterious Cingular 2.23 AKU 2.2 Rom.
v2.19.11 from the T-Mobile UK 2.21.0.206 Rom Release, for our European Brothers (and Sisters).
v2.19.11 from the T-Mobile Dutch Website, for our European Brothers (and Sisters).
v2.21.4 from the Xda Minis 2.24.4.101 Rom, for our European Brothers (and Sisters).
v2.27.11 Prodigy Radio Rom. As provided by ShogunMark.
2. Download the Zip file.
3. Extract the contents into an empty folder on your PC.
4. Make sure you have established a usb connection with your device (Activesync as guest is okay)
5. Execute the RomUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe
6. Follow the prompts.
Don't worry it won't overwrite your existing Extended Rom, Storage Area or OS so the PDA side of your device will remain untouched.
Just wondering, isnt this the same radio rom thats in the new beta T-Mobile rom?

The version number is the same but there have been numerous reports of better performance with the Radio Rom from the leaked Cingular Rom.
So the answer is Yes and No apparently.
If you're not experiencing noticable issues then why bother flashing it. On the other hand it certianly won't hurt to flash it.

Before I build the "Mr. Clean" AKU 2.3 ROM I did both a binary compare of the T-Mobile 2.25.11 Radio ROM and the Cingular 2.25.11 Radio ROM.
They are *different* files and do seemingly get different reception. In testing on a WIZA100 device, the Cingular version was noticeably better. I haven't gotten around to testing on the WIZA200 yet, but I'm expecting to see the same performance.
As a result of the tests, I included the Cingular version in "Mr. Clean" and kyphur was kind enough to package it separately after people asked for just the Radio ROM.
I downloaded and used the radio update from this thread with no problems it only updated the radio and left my settings intact.
Thanks for the file I need the improved reception
R
Thanks for the Rom, 4 bars at my desk where I used to have 1.... T-Mo Vario
Well, I just ran the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe and it completed the installation with my settings intact (in fact, the install only too a minute, whereas the full T-Mobile ROM took well over 5 minutes to complete).
My 8125 is running the AKU2.3 custom Cingular ROM that already had the T-Mo 02.25.11 Radio version. So, I don't have any absolute way to say that the Cingular 02.25.11 installed successfully, guess I'll have to test the signal now
Thanks for the updated Radio ROM

Works OK on KJAM 2.16.9.1 stock
Hi there,
I installed Cingular radio 2.15.11 on K-JAM running stock latest image:
2.16.19.1.
It installed OK, works OK and so far reception seems better.
Thanks for all the effort providing that,

I know this goes against conventional thinking, but has anyone tried to flash this to a CID LOCKED device? I'm curious if it will work as it doesn't touch the OS or the bootloader. If it does work it'd be a must have upgrade for pretty much *everyone* out there.
My devices have long since been unlocked so I've got no way of testing it.

Yep it will work. It's really just the initial and secondary program loaders that are affected by the CID.
Thanks, Kyphur, for posting the Radio ROM
Installed w/o any problem, runs also very well

cingular radio > tmobile radio
I've tried both and I noticed that the cingular is better. Why? Because with the tmobile one my push email would never sync properly on the mda. The cingular is fast and perfect. How fast you might ask? Well my mda receives the notice of new email faster than my Outlook client. But the original tmobile rom, my signal never dropped below 2 bars. The cingular drops 2 bars but that's 60% signal from the reading I get from Voice command. But I've talked for longer than 10 minutes on my phone and it's worked just fine. Kudos to Kyphur for sharing this with us.

Hey kyphur,
Well, Summiter put in the radio rom from Cingular's 2.25.11, and I tell yah, I'm still suffering from the same problems. the only choice I have left is the original 2.17 radio code, which I guess I'll have to try once I get around to seeing my home computer - been mobile for 3 days, haven't even seen my own grass... sigh ...
AKU2.3 Radio rom based on t-mo ... failed wifi on pre-n

Have you tried a different router? The one thought that pops to mind is that perhaps something in the firmware of the pre-n router isn't completely 802.11b compliant? After all, no 802.11n routers are final yet. It's quite possible there are still bugs on that end.

I know officially the stack on Q.11n isn't official, but the router is set to be compatiable with both G and B flavors of Q.11 sequences. What's more disturbing is that it was working with 1.8.11 WWE (stock). I know the firmware in the router is good, works with a Dell TruMobile Wifi, Moto G Wifi, Centrino internal Wifi, and Broadcom Wifi cards... so we've been around the block with Pre-n connecting on a G and B platform systems - it simply does not like my phone. I do have the G hack enabled through Sum Sum, and tried removing it - no difference.
I haven't tried other G routers, besides my SRX100 router, and even with this one its spotty at best - requies disable/enable occassionally when it 'loses touch' with the AP.
I'm wondering if 2 hours of ethereal logs might be required to find out where in the Q.11 stack stuff is messing up. Networking is my ball of wax, and it doesn't make sense to me if a device ARPs for an address, and the device REPLIES saying, "Yeah sure buddy, here you go: x.x.x.x" and the device simply IGNORES it ... kinda confuses me - like a Cisco 2600 that just came back from repair and the stupid idiot soldered a jumper cause 'it was loose'... ugh... numbskull
has anyone in california had good signal with the 2.21.4 radio rom??

Next question, are you extracting the contents of the zip file into an empty folder? might you have extracted into a folder containing an unhacked version of the updater program and by mistake running it instead of the NoID version?
I unpacked to a new folder.
I think the problem is with the rom that we already have installed that "maybe" is bloking the update ?

T-Mobile UK AKU 2.3: Mr. Clean goes to London!

We've been getting some great ROMs designed for US carriers, but our UK T-Mobile friends seem to have gotten left in the cold. Sure a new ROM is available, but it's only being sold on new devices at this point. So I decided to build off the base Mr. Clean ROM and create a custom version for T-Mobile UK.
This is a AKU 2.3 ROM, using the latest OS core, the 2.24 bootloader, the 2.25 Cingular Radio ROM and a customized version of the T-Mobile UK Ext ROM. I've gone through the Ext ROM and dumped anything that seemed unnecessary, keeping just the vital bits. Repacked a few things, and included some vital accessories (Total Commander, Registry Wizard 1.0T, and the MIDlet Java Session fix) to finish things off.
.NET Compact Framework v2 is packed in as well, but it doesn't install by default. You can install it manually if you so choose by going to the NETCFv2 folder in the Ext ROM and running the CAB.
--------------------------
Exact version numbers are as follows:
IPL: 2.24
SPL: 2.24
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.24.10.1
Within the OS, Device Information reports:
ROM version: 2.24.10.1 WWE
ROM date: 4/17/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.24 Mr. Clean TMoUK
And the OS build is reported as:
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)
--------------------------
This version of the ROM supports A2DP natively.
Push Mail is of course supported.
I've tested the ROM with US based GPRS settings, but bundled the final version with UK based GPRS and MMS settings. Unfortunately since I don't have an active T-Mobile UK SIM card I wasn't able to test those. Hopefully someone can give it a go and let the forum know ASAP if there is an issue. This is one aspect where I was flying blind.
I'd also love it if a Blackberry user could install the BBConnect client and let us know if it works with this ROM or not. According to T-Mobile it shouldn't, but we all know that's been proven wrong in the past. Ideally I'd love to have someone who's got it working now upgrade and try it. This way we're testing from a known good situation.
One final thing, I had to repack the Soft Key application. If everyone can pound on that and make sure it works, that would be awesome.
And with that...
Enjoy the ROM (and don't forget to CID unlock before upgrading!)
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224a_AKU23_WWE_CUSTOM_T-MobileUK.zip
Edit: It's been mentioned that some users may need to enter the WAP proxy info. If everything works, disregard this, however if you do need to enter a proxy server to browse the web you can use the following: 149.254.201.132:8080.
Superb!!! , i'll give this a go today. THANKS!
Hi,
you did a superb work but, IMO, you chose a wrong name: Mr Clean ROM, in fact, is a ROM without ANY mobile operator's stuff while your ROM contains T-Mobile UK customizations. So, from my point of view, it's no more a Clean ROM!!!
sounds fantastic. Those on T-Mobile have been waiting for ages for a ROM update, so your work will be valued by many.
Just a couple of questions before I jump on the boat:
Has it got the T-Mobile UK today screen customisation? I am on the 1.06 T-Mobile UK ROM and the first part of the today screen has shortcuts for the T-Mobile favourites (IE) application, contacts, calendar and notes. I quite like it and I don't want to lose it. If you got rid off it in the new ROM, would it be possible to install CAB files from my current extended ROM once the device has been upgraded with your ROM? I've got a copy of my existing Exetended ROM, so maybe I could select and install these CAB files later? or are there any incompatibility issues between the 2 ROMs, i.e. cab files that only install on signed T-Mobile ROMs??
Browsing the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=T-Mobile 1.6.2.105 UK, I guess these are the bits I am talking about here:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab
[from the wiki:Creates unnecessary Internet Explorer Shortcuts.]
and/or it could be this:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_UXC_Signed.cab
Shortcuts, registry entries for today plugins, softkeys, T-Mobile sound. Not needed.
and/or it could be this:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab
[from the wiki:Creates unnecessary Internet Explorer Shortcuts]
Could you include these files in the Ext ROM, or could they be installed afterwards?
I suppose it means I don't want my ROM to be fully clean, but to include the good bits that are part of the current T-Mobile UK ROM! The best of both worlds :!:
Also, will it be possible to upgrade/downgrade to the soon-to-be-released official T-Mobile UK ROM, or to the current T-Mobile ROM in case anything goes wrong?
I can't wait - my Wizard will be very happy
Thanks for your help.
Top stuff.
Just a quick point.. Im using a T-Mobile UK upgraded to a 2.17 Qtek ROM. I had CID & SIM unlocked it using Lokiwiz 0.2b prior to upgrading. Would I need to run the newer Lokiwiz 0.3 before upgrading to this ROM? And how do I access the Net 2.0 install CAB in the Ext Rom?
Cheers.
I've just upgraded. Will let you know how it goes. First impressions: the device is much more responsive than before.
No particular issues as yet.
thanks a lot - feels great.
It works extremely great. The GPRS works great as well.
overall far more responsive device and not a single issue with the new rom as yet.

Don't worry, I'll still keep maintaining the original Mr. Clean ROM. That said, I still think the name applies. While this particular ROM may be customized for T-Mobile UK, it has been stripped of any "extra" bits and just keeps what is needed. As a result, it should stike a balance between a base Mr. Clean install and a fully loaded carrier build. I tried to build it with just the essentials...more or less what you'd end up with if you took the original Mr. Clean and individually added on the T-Mobile bits.

No, the Today Screen UI bits have been yanked. They took up a WHOLE lot of real estate and weren't particularly functional as far as I could tell. Really felt as if it was designed for a smartphone rather than a PDA. Also didn't want to take the performance hit. As it is, Calendar, Contacts and IE are in the Start Menu by default (T-Mobile UK typically moves them) and you can add the Notes link to the Start Menu in the settings. This still gives you access to your apps with a single click, but doesn't require the T-Mobile UK UI customizations. For what it's worth, T-Mobile US didn't bother with the custom today UI over here.
If you're looking for a suggestion for Today screen plug-ins, I'm personally a fan of the O2 XDA bits. Someone had posted a link to it here on the forum awhile back. I keep that running on my personal Wizard.

You can always install any CAB files that you've got. The T-Mobile UK UI CABs all start with UXC, I believe. They should install on most any ROM. I don't believe that T-Mobile "locks" any of its customization CABs.

Make SURE that you CID unlock before upgrading and you'll be fine. Most everyone SIM unlocks, but not everyone realizes that the CID unlock option in Lokiwiz02b has to be run separately. Do the CID unlock (if you haven't yet done it) first and you should be able to load any ROM you choose.

You only need to CID and SIM unlock once. CID unlocking is what's important. If you only did a SIM unlock you'll run into trouble. Both the CID unlock and SIM unlock should be permanent so once you've performed both unlocks you're good to go. Won't need to do it again.
To accesses the Ext ROM start up Total Commander and manually enter \extended_rom into the directory field. From there, just go into the NETCFv2 folder and open the CAB file. It will install directly from there, and as it is set to read-only, it won't corrupt the Ext ROM.

A quick question: after upgrading to Mr Clean's ROM I noticed my Wizard displays time with the US format, despite selecting English/UK in the regional format.
How can I get it display using the 24 hour format?
This seems to be a minor issue, but it bothers me when using Pocket Informant.

This is a setting that's built into WM5, though due to the way the drop down menu displays it can be easy to miss.
Start -> Settings -> System -> Regional Settings -> Time -> Time style
Choose one of the four options:
h:mm:ss tt -- 12 hr clock
hh:mm:ss tt -- 12 hr clock with leading zeros on the single digit hours
H:mm:ss -- 24 hr clock
HH:mm:ss -- 24 hr clock with leading zeros on the single digit hours
Enjoy.

Problems with WiFi (QTEK 9100)

Hi,
Ever since upgrading to 2.17 (official QTEK version) I can no longer get a stable WiFi connection - I get poor signal displayed even though I am next to the AP and it can take anything from 5 to 20 attempts to get connected.
The 9100 came with 1.6.7 installed which not perfect more or less connected first time, but I hoped the later ROMs would fix some other stability problems.
I have tried AKU 2.3 and I still get the same issues (plus I miss the battery indicator in the top bar).
Also, I cannot get back to 1.6.7 (I managed to get the OS back to it but the other 2 were stuck at 2.4) as every time I try I get vendor ID is wrong.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Taomyn
I have the same problem, but even worse. I see the network after connecting it says it is connected but I cannot browse or do anything on the "socalled Internet" DHCP says that it found an adress in my case at home 192.168.1.33.
I am not sure if an upgrade would help.
My wifi version is 01.04.10
I am looking for any idea too.
Just an update, though the problem remains.
I have downgraded the OS to 2.17 as it seems better than the later ones posted and is at least a QTEK one.
Still hit and miss with the WiFi
Does anyone know if there are any later QTEK ROMS available?
search this forum to find a solution to downgrade the rom version to 1.x then do CID unlock using aWizard.
or you should try upgrade to cingular 2.25WWE rom to see if there is any improvement.

I did try various of the downgrade tips but none seemed to work even though I've got a G3, so hopefully the LokiWiz will be updated soon to work on v2 ROMS.
The Cingular 2.25 ROM didn't work very well either and I hated the extra rubbish it comes with. The radio ROM I happen to be using was from that same one.
I suppose I could go for the 2.25 OS but not the Extension - would that leave behind the Cingular crap?

it looks a little strange that you have a 2.25OS with 2.24IPL/SPL. :?
you could put a bat. icon on task bar by running Windows\Init_Tray.exe
Ok so I still can't get WiFi working :-( but at least I've sorted the the battery indicator out (thanks to a reg tweak for AKU2.2)
Which leads me to this AKU stuff. I keep reading about 2.3 but I'm not sure if this is an official release or something that someone has put together. I'm willing to give it a try but not if it's just 2.2 with some tweaks or something like that.
Can anyone shed some light on the AKU releases? Mine definitely says 2.2 at the moment.
Oh and can I simply create an upgrade file with just the 2.3 OS file in it?
TIA
Ok, my WiFi is still borked, it sees AP's all over the place but the ones I know it should connect to the phone just will not lock on to - it tries for a few seconds then simply says "Unavailable".
Currently I have on the phone a combination of:
IPL: 2.24
SPL: 2.24
GSM: 02.25.11
OS:2.24.10.1 WWE
Protocol: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM: 2.17.7.102
WM5 5.1.95 (14955.2.3.0)
I've actually tried what should have been a later OS, 2.25, but the AKU was 2.2 and the copyright message shows 2005 where as this one is AKU 2.3 with 2006 displayed.
I'm thinking now that perhaps the Extended ROM which is from the latest QTEK build I could find. Can anyone suggest a good replacement for it that doesn't have a load of baggage and only useful customisations?
As a last resort I'd like to try downgrading back to full 1.x ROM (QTEK 1.6.7 I think) but as I understand it this may not be possible. If it can be done, can anyone point me in the right direction i.e. which downgrade ROM to try? Yes, I have gone through this forum but it's almost "information overload" and very confusing,
TIA
if you update to shipped Cingular 2.25WWE rom, you can bypass all the extrom and see if wifi works normal (before you install other apps.)
Mine is ok.
the AKU2.3 one is a custom test rom which may cause slightly unstable.
while this still doesn't work, i think there's no means except sending your device back for checkup and repair.
Thanks, but how do I "bypass all the extrom"? Is there a clean extrom I can use with it?
Ok, I'm making progress.
I followed the instructions for downgrading, which although says it won't work for 2.21 or above, sort of does.
I downgraded to the custom 1.5.4 which succeeded but left SPL still at 2.24 but everything else had changed. I then ran the LokiWiz v0.2b and that seemed to succeed too at least there were no errors.
I then tested WiFi and it locked and connected first time - yay!!
Next I have taken the 1.6.7 QTEK ROM (which the phone originally had) and when that finished both IPL/SPL were downgraded to v1.x - WiFi still working.
At least now I know that WiFi is not borked but it's some strange ROM issue.
I'm going to try QTEK's 2.17 ROM and see what happens - at least I know I can get back to 1.x if it still doesn't work.
This is fun - not!!

after the RUU completed and restart automatically, after those init setting you must follow(eg. align screen, select time zone, etc.), at the moment when u see "customize within 3 seconds", poke the reset hole as quick as you can. Then you Bypass the extrom installation.
Thanks - you are being a great help, it's much appreciated.
I went back to 1.6.7 then added the Cingular 2.25 OS ROM but with the QTEK 2.17 extended ROM. What a mixture that is! WiFi would not work. I then hard reset and used your bypass technique - WiFi now works.
It seems that an extended ROM application is screwing up WiFi so I need to get everything up to the latest and greatest, bypass the extended ROM then one by one run them to see which is the culprit.
The plot thickens......
Well it looks like *any* v2 ROM screws up the WiFi on my phone and I have no idea why :x I have tried various combinations of ROM parts (proving the phone is most definitely CID unlocked  ) and I either have no WiFi or some which progressively gets worse as time goes on to the point it stops connecting again.
I'm back to the original 1.6.7 QTEK WWE shipped ROM and WiFi works flawlessly but I'm now missing all the nice tweaks of v2 and I'm sure my BT headset doesn't work as well as before.
Maybe the next release will be better :?
Just to conclude this thread. The 2.26 ROM recently released seems to have cured my WiFi woes and it has made my phone run so much better than before.
I recommend it to anyone

Need suggestion on a ROM for the 8125 when using T-Mobile

Thanks to the wise Dr Puttingham, I was able to unlock the CID on my device. I have the Cingular 8125 and am using it with T-Mobile. I don't need a data plan as I am usually around a Wi-Fi signal. I mainly use the phone for SMS and calls, and some of the other perks (i.e. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Games,). I was wondering what would be a good ROM that I could install, that boots up quick? I currently have the CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE ROM installed, but the key mapping on the keyboard isnt accurate with this rom for my device. Could you guys recommend a fast and stable ROM for the 8125? Thanks in advance!
PapaPrem, the 1.05 downgrade was only to be able to unlock your device! There are quite a number of fine ROM's here that you're now able to enjoy. As for you being on the T-Mobile network I'd suggest perhaps xelencin's most excellent ROM T-Mobile USA 2.26 Custom ROM (Wizard/MDA)
If you decide to go for a cleaner ROM and then configure your own GPRS, that's always an option!

8125 Dropping Calls -- Radio ROM Upgrade?

Hello all,
I've upgraded my Cingular 8125 device to the latest official ROM from Cingular/HTC. These are my current versions:
ROM Version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM Date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM Version: 2.25.11.102
However, I've noticed that at least once or twice a day when I'm on a phone call, my call is suddenly dropped! I have to wait a few seconds before I'm able to make calls again. My guess is that there is something funky going on with the radio version that I'm using. Is there a later (more stable) radio ROM that I could upgrade to? Notice that I have my device configured quite well and I wouldn't want to wipe it out entirely again (as I already did to upgrade to the latest 2.25.11.1 Cingular-approved ROM). Is it possible to just upgrade the radio ROM without having to wipe my device again? If so, which radio ROM should I upgrade to, and where is it available?
Thanks!
Ryan
Ignore all I wrote, was a bit uninformed
sorry
Look for the 2.47.11 Radio Rom in the Wizad FTP section.
Molski
For the life of me, I can't find that ROM on the Wizard FTP site. Could you please post the path? Thanks!

I'm afraid that there isn't any way to upgrade to a later radio ROM for the wizard, there are a few later versions embedded in various ROMs available at the forum though there's always a minority of ppl that do experience call dropouts now and again with all of these, so upgrading doesn'y guaranty a solution . Best bet would in my opinion still be to hard reset your device and start from scratch... Best of luck

Excuse me but WTF are you talking about?
btw, the 2.47.11 is here
way to go Dr Puttingham
I sure do love it when people provide real links instead of "go check this/that".
I have a question also. I am getting my new TMobile MDA from a this seller on eBay
I want to know what I should do first? Do I need to CID unlock, Registry unlock. If so, how and in what order. I plan to use a T-Mobile SIM card so I probably don't need SIM unlock at least for now unless it is required to do some of the apparently needed OS and radio ROM modifications. I got the radio ROM you provided, so I assume I will need that.

From what I gather on here, you'll need to use a CID unlock, but only if you plan on putting an unbranded or custom ROM on your MDA...otherwise it will work find out of the box. Keep in mind that not having any restrictions (CID / Registry) is always preferred

I have the exact same setup, with no customizations on my 8125 and am having a terrible time with calls dropping. Did you find the radio ROM upgrade and did it work?
Thanks.
its already been solved in another thread. apparently its the data connection trying to activate 4 min into a call and dropping the call. the fix is a reg change so that data knows to remain suspended.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=995659&postcount=272
How to?
Well I downloaded the radio ROM but I have no idea what to do next. I searched the site for how to install the update but came up empty.
Any information on how to install the new radio ROM would be appreciated.
As for the registry edit for data connection I am not sure that this is the solution as the calls drop at random intervals, not 4 minutes. I don't have anything (that I know of) which would be trying to create a data connection anyway.
For the registry edit I would need Total Commander correct? Is it really safe for a Noob like myself to make these changes? I can program a vcr but I once deleted part of my operating system in an attempt to get more disk space on my computer. Now I know better but not a lot better.
Thanks

Thank you. Looks like exactly what I need. There wasn't the 2.47.11 radio rom in the list there but I will go through those steps to reinstall the ROM that I have and see what I can learn.
I installed the 2.47.11 radio ROM and calls kept dropping. I called Cingular and they assured me it must be the device so they are sending out my 4th 8125. I complained and made a nuisance of myself so they are sending me a free 8525 in addition to the 8125 I have. in the meantime I went to the Cingular store for a loaner so I wouldn't be dropping calls all the time. Even the nokia loaner was dropping all the calls, switched to my unlocked nokia 6820, still drops. Must be the network and not the device.
