Is it possible to watch TV on your Kaiser? If so, what do I need to d/l?
Yes, it is possible. You can stream from your home sling mobitv qt TV many many many many options to choose from.
which program would be the best to use/most reliable?
orb is good but i haven't streamed live tv. otherwise i use my slingbox which can be a more costly solution as you have to buy hardware
I have had great luck with Slinbox. It lets you watch YOUR cable or satellite tv, meaning you get your local channels, local sports, etc. Yes, there is a the cost of the box itself but that's a one time expense not an ongoing monthly charge like most of the streaming services.
Easy to set up and use and the quality is surprisingly good.
I use Slingbox. If you are interested...do an eBay search on Slingbox SB100. That's the original version that has all of the connections on it (no HD) and you can get it relatively cheap. I got mine for about $80 after shipping. Then you have to spend $30 on the mobile client software.
ORB is the way to go. You can stream TV, any movies off your home computer, any mp3s or music and also use it as a file browser to retrieve any files you may need off your home computer. I stream TV at 300k just fine on 3g. Of course you need a home computer with high speed internet and a tv card in it, but it has many more advantages over slingbox as to what you can do with it.
i think there is amonthly charge to use the orb, i may opt for the sling box, it cost about usd 80 and comes with all the software to watch tv etc from ppc and pc.
kms
Nope, there is no charge on the orb service. Just install and go....
Orb's good, I just don't like keeping a PC running all day for my occasional streaming need. I'm a big Slingbox user and can say that they are simple and solid, can control a DVR Plus it can access your cable directly so you can set up some icons for your favorite channels on the phone and stream live TV anytime as well. I even peek out my front door from a cam modulated onto one of my TV channels.
Sling is a clean easy solution.

True, but you can set the PC to wake on lan, then dont need to leave it on, however the PC I have running ORB is my Exchange 12 Server, so needs to sta on all the time anyhow....
I use ORB all the time. I have been using it well over a year now. I always leave my PC on, so that isn't an issue. I'm from the old school, where frequent bootups were bad on the RAM/CPU, etc. I know it's not the case anymore, but it's just a habit.
orb.com, the best. I have media center pc to use on the online rental movies. I also use the media center pc to copy tv shows to my device so I can watch it on the go. I also use orb to record shows when I forget to set to record. It's a multi purpose device. Unlike LocationFree, which I have as well, or Slingbox, you can't record. So you have to be on that time to see the show.
Orb can be used on top of your existing or old computer. Just slap in a PCI or USB Capturing Video card and voila, you're done. I even use ORB as a Webcam surveilance camera to record if there is any movement. The computer is always on, but then again, the computer is a Pentium-M Desktop with super quiet fan and it's tiny as a mac.

Orb is awesome, I use it almost daily, and best of all it's free. I would like to point out, not all TV cards are compatible with ORB, you might want to reference which cards are supported first.
im getting loads of buffering issues when im trying to play videos / tv in orb, anyone got any ideas? im using HSDPA on the Kaiser and got 384k upload on the home pc.

Try using a "fixed" speed on the orb on your kaiser instead of letting it run the speed test. Alot of times it does the speed test and finds for example 800kbps and sets orb at that on the ppc. Manually set it to say 300kbps and see if that solves the problem. Alot is dependent on your cell providers bandwidth, they may have good bursts at times but then drop in speed between them.

VBOX: USB-A 3560 (USB-2 external); ATSC 2060
ATSC tuners compatible with Media Center
NOTE on DVB tuners:
Most DVB-T (terrestrial) digital tuners should work in Orb. However, this functionality is offered as a "beta" and is therefore not fully supported at this time.
DVB-S (satellite) digital tuners do not work in Orb at this time.
Supported Dual Tuners
Hauppauge WinTV 500MCE PCI (for Media Centers only)
Emuzed Angel Dual TV Tuner PCI
Adaptec VideOh! Media Center USB 2.0 (AVC-3610)
Novac NV-TV300D2 Dual-TV2
NVIDIA Dual-TV
Note on software-based, non-MPEG2 TV tuners
At this time, most non-MPEG2 tuners (such as: ATI All-In-Wonder family of tuners; Hauppauge soft-PVR USB tuners; etc.) will work in Orb. However the implementation of this functionality is still in beta and therefore not supported. If you cannot make your non-MPEG2 tuner work in Orb, search Orb forum posts at forums.orb.com where issues related to this type of tuners are discussed, and basic setup tips are offered.
Set-Top Boxes
If your TV setup includes a Set-Top Box (STB), to change TV channels in Orb you will need a Microsoft MCE-compatible Infra-Red (IR) Blaster (usually comes bundled with the MCE remote control). The following Set-Top Boxes are supported by Orb:
TiVo Series 1 and Series 2
Motorola DCT-2000 to DCT-6000
Scientific Atlanta (SA) Explorer Series 2000 to 8000
Echostar 301 and 501 for Dish Networks
Remote Controls and IR Blasters
The following Remote Controls include IR Blasters supported by Orb:
Philips Media Center Remote Control
SMK Remote Control for Windows XP Media Center Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Remote Control
Hewlett Packard Remote Control for Windows XP Media Center Edition
USB-UIRT (Universal Infrared Receiver Transmitter)
ADS IR Blaster
(*) NOTE: The ADS IR Blaster is for Windows XP only. It is NOT MCE-compatible and only works with the ADS Instant TV Deluxe USB tuner listed above

Any ideas how to do that matey? I was looking for something similar but couldnt find it anywhere.
Thanks
Soz, RemE is correct here.
Sling is perfect because it will give you acces to what you have at home with full control via PPC or your laptop or as in my case my Media PC connected to my TV.
Slinger's do it their 'Home' way....
Get Global Free USA And International TV, A Satellite TV Dish In Your Hands
Point your mobile web browser to http://www.streamingpda.nl and get over 120 TV channels USA and international channels and over 100 radio stations. It's like having a satellite TV dish in the palms of your hands. Also check out http://ardcorp.tv ..........................! Yeah, Nothing beats the "SLINGBOX", not even ORB...!
Ok, just thought I'd post to see what everyone does with there Xperia X1 so that others can see what the phone can be used for and what not.
Currently I just use the phone for the phone, text, e-mail (with T-Zones) and use the Garmin a lot. Rather than that I'm still exploring on what to add to the phone.
I flashed a couple roms, from TF3D to the R2A and found that I am more satisfied with the R1A using the performance tweaks. I do like the TF3D but I like being able to pop the keyboard and type for anything that needs typing
I'm trying to incoprorate the phone as a music player and listen to music more so I'm going to be using the media panel, unless someone else can suggest something better. I want to be able to see all my songs and create a playlist rather easily and shuffle the songs.
Another thing I would like to have just incase is the WiFi tether for my laptop. I know t-zones is rather slow but having some internet would be better than nothing.
I also thought about blogging and taking random pictures to kind of keep up with whats going on in my life and that sort of thing. The facebook panel is ok, but I'd rather have like flickr or something to upload the pictures and blog about it.
So what do YOU guys do with your Xperia? And what do YOU guys recommend?
I use mine for email, web, gps, the odd photograph, writing articles (usually with a photo) and as an Mp3 player..
Never usually bother with txt and obviously make the odd phone call.
Then there's all the tweaking, tinkering and hacking..
as to music I tend to use the one in TF3d, which works fine for my needs, (but then I just stick it on shuffle).
Without tf3d I use either
Conduits pocket player (which is a really good music player (commercial) and uses media player skins see http://mylostblog.altervista.org/ for some of those)
freeware there's mortplayer, and s2p, but s2p doesn't do playlists just yet, possibly next version by the look of it.
Never got on with tcmpmpmpm/coreplayer but others love it.
- Full email with built-in messaging and marvellous ProfiMail
- Full Internet (OperaMobile 9.5, OperaMini 4.2)
- YouTube
- Photos, and sometimes video recording
- Music
- RSS Feeds
- Constant work with Office, especially Pdf and Word (currently DocsToGo but planning to get Softmaker)
- Of course extensive use of Calendar, Notes, Tasks (busy life)
- GoogleMaps
- And utilities like ExpenseDiary, Stopwatch, Dictionary, Calc and Currencies!
- Ebooks reading
- Simple Weather app by Gega (great!)
- screen capture utility to catch maps from google maps when abroad (cheap and practical!!!)
As for UI, I just love panels and have two of them (one clean, one with most of my apps I use and all I need)
I also use MediaPanel which supports creating playlists. I don't really watch movies on X1 since it basically kills battery. Anyway there's a sticky containing good converter for videos for X1.
Hope it helps, apparently I don't do too little with my Xperia.....
First of all, don't blog. Too many people doing it, too few people caring, you'd be wasting your time.
Beside that, my uses include (in order of importance)
- Tinkering
- Calling
- Sms messages
- Musicplayer
- Video's
- Email
- Games (SNES)
- Random stuff
Apart from the obvious; making calls.
-I surf the net alot with Opera.
-Use mt 8GB card to listen to music synced via PC(always shuffle)
-Watch Youtube sometimes
-GPS with TomTom is wow( Where would we be without GPS)
-Some games - actually bejewelled
-E-mail - a lot of e-mail. Windows Live rocks
-Texting too.
I've been using Windows Mobile aka Pocket PC Phone Edition when it first came out in 2000. Same what you will about Microsoft but they've got the best Mobile software in existence. Believe it or not, I'e never owned a regular cell phone. Been using WinMo since MS launched the XDA with T-Mob in 2000.
-turn it back on when it turns off
-restart it when coreplayer crashes
well i gotta admit i love mobile gaming. This phone really dissapointed me, a lot. Gaming sucks so hard. Hopefully with all these WVGA phone coming, there will be more support for gaming. Even emulators suck, compared to those on Symbian.

Calls/Messages/Emails - Daily
Calendar (sync with my work server daily)
As a modem (1 month via usb - then found out about wifi programs) - great when on holidays
Internet - daily via wifi and 3G (Opera and IE - Opera won't recognise some certificates for some reason)
Weather (SPB Weather 2) daily
Currency (SPB Traveller) - occasionally (once a fortnight)
Word and Excel - every few days
Powerpoint and PDF on and off (I may have heavy usage for a few days then not use it for a month)
SPB Wireless Monitor (Daily - my telco can't seem to give me accurate usage estimates)
Pocket.RAR - lots at the moment... probably not so much in the future (I can't install winrar on my work pc)
Run.GPS UV Trainer - I would like to say daily... but I haven't been that good at the moment
TomTom7 - when I drive my car that doesn't have a gps built in (mainly on weekends - although I do prefer the gps on my x1 to the one in my other car).
Games - THPS2 daily, SPB Air Islands - once every few days, sudoku... when I am really really bored.
Radio and MP3 - daily
Movies - a few times a week (currently using coreplayer).
Almost Forgot... soft reset - multiple times daily at the moment...
wow. Thanks for all the comments guys.
1) I agree with the emulators being crappy compared to Symbian and stuff. I really wish we had a better one cause I love the idea for landscape and having a keyboard.
2) I like the weather panel. Reminds me of the TF3D weather and the iPhones weather. Very nice.

Hi All,
Shouldn't the question be, what don't you do with your Xperia. I travel all across the UK, Ireland and Central Europe with my job and since having the Xperia and an 8GB SD card I leave my laptop & TomTom 910 at home now as the X1 (along with the SE car charger) does it all for me!
Cheers,
Astoroth
phonecalls, msgs, im and checking emails
weather updates
alarm, appointments
surfing web with opera
youtube
games- virtual pool, bubble breaker

watching videos (and showing off the nice vid qlty to my mates)
Dear All:
While it's a common practice after hardSPL is out (hoping to be a.s.a.p), I think it's a good if users get to vote on what features they are interested in device because we might be looking for a selective set of services based on our normal device usage. For example:
- Reset icon/Tab/shortcut, because Rhodium reset is behind the cover (kinda stupid)
- Fast media players (using currently Divx for Pocket PC) that can run a movie without any glitch or delay.
- G-sensor based apps/games.
- FM Radio built in.
- better colors for TouchFlo 3/D
- Better taskbar icons
Let's vote for what you guys want.
Nothing but my language...
in fact i think it is better to flash a bare, stable and fast rom without anything but the wanted language! I prefer german roms.
Then i can customize it with .cabs by my own and can leave all these unuseful things like fm-radio, manila, skins, IE and so on...
Greets
Alfons
need memory
need more free rom and ram....
maybe with lzx compression we can have more free memory
From what ive seen of stock and the new TF3D interface im very pleased already.
Looking for no bloatware, basically standard but with better battery life, performance in general and some tasty bundled apps.
Simples
This is the first WM device I ve had, that doesn't really need a cooked rom. Everything works perfectly.
Although like to see some stuff added on the next version, like:
Reset Shortcut
FM Radio With RDS and technical info about reception, frequency etc.
Gray/Black Highlights etc, I really don't get why HTC insists to use green.
Same BG on all manila tabs without slowdowns.
Some opera version that you can understand what link you just clicked (or don't clicked).
Black/Dark Phone Canvas
Greek available by default on eZinput
Most of this issues are already solve, but its always nice to see a flawless ROM
BT stack
bring the good old MS BT stack - volume setting on the device for BT stereo headset during MP3 playback was working with Raphael. now this is not working at all with Rhodium
Here are some things in my dreams
-Windows Mobile 6.5 (I already have had 6.5 on my Excalibur for a month)
-Opera mobile 9.7
-Manila 2.5 (the newest Touch Flo 3D interface) + Footprints
-Pre-installed app for the built in radio that just works
-More, better Facebook integration into contacts (If anyone is good enough to do that, but I think that Manila 2.5 also addresses this issue somewhat)
-Some legit new wallpapers to chose from
-Some sort of program that can find a new directory for each key on the keypad/front keys. (Example you could program a key to open the camera, another for the radio app)
-TCPMP (is a beast of a media player, like vlc but for WinMo)
These are all of the things that I could think of that would make the TP2 almost perfect. I will update this post if I think of anything else.
Remote Tracker software.
If someone can get Blackberry esq capability working with full functionality and same speed as my BB Bold then I will jump back to HTC device at a flash
I left due to frustrations with Touch HD (admittedly I hadn't changed from the stock ROM) but I missed the keyboard - bad choice on my behalf the touch HD
mainly I want a 6.5 ROM that is very low on memory consumption. I can handle the rest
I have a Vodafone UK version so here are some of the things i'd like change...
A Youtube Application (vodafone take it out) that doesnt break the filters for the normal player that comes with it (gallery doesnt work)
A Comms manager in the notification area like it used to be...
Manilla 2.5
Vodafoen modified Manilla to have Black text so cant see any on the writing on the main homescreen with my choosen background unless its basically white... So the return of white text would be great...
Battery always staying visible in the status bar...
Windows 6.1/6.5 doesnt matter too much as i do most things from the Manilla interface
Well the things I'd opt for are:
* Preinstalled FM-radio
* TCPMP
* Opera 9.7
* Soft reset
* BT headset-finder
* Country-specific keyboard management
* G-sensor sensitivity in "all" apps
* Footprints
* Music ID
Then of course; better battery-time and Manila 2.5 would be great...
My 2c worth/McHan
well i opt for a bare based default 6.5 windows. and the rest of the application will be thru a cab file. thanks
The things I would like to have in a ROM are as following:
- G-Alarm 1.5.1 (latest free version)
- Microsoft Facebook Application
- TotalCommander
- Microsoft MyPhone
- MP3 Trimmer
- any software where you can rotate, crop and compress pictures
Everything else I rather install on the storage card.
* Titanium
* .Net 3.5
* BB Connect That works
I'd like to see a lite/naked version with no M3D, maybe HTC Home instead, or just the standard WM "desktop".
For apps:
- batterystatus ext.
- TCPMP w/.flv plugin
- Google Maps
- Opera (latest)
- TotalCommander
- PIMBackup
- some sort of WM5torage-like app to turn the phone into a USB card-reader/memorystick.

Actualy no need for WM5Storage. TouchPro 2 has this feature built in. When you plug in your USB, it asks you whether you want to use it as ActiveSync, Internet connection, or Removable Disk. For me I always keep the check box UNCHECKED so that I can choose everytime I connect a USB among these 3 options.
If you choose option 3, simply you will get your SD card as a removable drive on any other computer without having ActiveSync/Mobile device center isntalled

+1: a good working bt stack that can handle more than 1 device at a time corectly and have implemented all powersaving features of the bt definition, so that the batterys of headsets and bt watches are not quickly (approx. 10-15 hour's in standby with only little use) drained. also good a2dp and sound quality, and not disconecting devices for no reason (sometimes in the middle of a call) all the above i face daily on my athena and i will not buy a new htc product until this is working.
mad
-WinMobile 6.5, stock, no fancy customizations to keep it trim and stable
-Contacts app that lets me see my contact history with that contact, and also click on relatives of the contact to see their profiles. Say I have a friend, and I have his wife Brooke listed. I click her name, and her profile pops up. Something clean and smooth.
-Threaded conversation view with text messages and e-mails.
-Full MS Office Mobile so I can edit, create, and view word/excel/powerpoint on the phone.
-PDF and FLV viewers that don't crash the phone.
-Playback of mp4, mpg, mpeg, divx, xvid video without me having to load new codecs on the phone myself.
-Included Apps: E-Book reader (*.lit format), RSS Reader, PDF Reader, FLV/Youtube player, 2-time-zone clock, stocks, bing maps, weather with 5-day forecast below current conditions, calendar, windows media player, app store, MS Office Mobile, IE Mobile, solitaire, freecell, minesweeper, that bubble game, camera app that captures pictures and video, picture viewer (GIF, JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG).
-Media Library app that looks like JackLuminous' app from The Green Button - something that lets me view my music by artist, album, year, genre, all songs, and playlists, and separate music, TV, movie, and podcast sections.
*The home screen would be: Music, TV, Movies, Podcasts, Audio Books.
*Click Music. You see; Artist, Album, Genre, Songs, Year, Playlists
*Click Artists, and you see the albums by that artist, by album cover, that you can swipe left or right. Below you see the year, genre, and record label - click those to see all songs release that year, by that genre, or by that record label. Click the album cover to see the track list. at the bottom is a back and a play button.
That's my biggest request - a media library app for the phone. I really think this is an area that WinMobile falls down on, and if someone wants to develop this further, I'd be glad to help them out.
i´m searching for a clean rom. without any programs (office, manila, ...)
all this soft you can find here as cab-files and you can install it.
the cleanest is often the fastest rom!
Motorola recently announced the Flipout phone which is an Android 2.1 based smartphone with a square-shaped design. The Motorola Flipout is the latest mobile device in a line of Motorola phones attempting to push the envelope in style, interaction, and form factor by using innovative and sometimes outrageous-looking designs. Everyone all over the word pay attention to this phone, so do I. I got that this phone have the below main functions:
Design
As the latest MOTOROLA phone with Android system, MOTOROLA Flipout, takes the most attractive places is obviously not possess the function, and how the machine have square appearance and rotating design. Although this design is not the first, but the MOTOROLA Flipout has 45 keys in all the keyboard but truly unique similar type, add up to seven color selection machine, not only for young people reflects the positioning, and believe that will make many fashion expert at first sight. The Flipout goes one step further in its unique design and hides the QWERTY keyboard until you pivot the phone open—in the same manner you might fan out a deck of cards. Pivoting the Flipout open reveals a five-row QWERTY keypad with a separate row specifically for numbers, and transforms it from a tiny, pocket-sized screen to a full mobile phone. When closed, the Flipout measures just 67 x 67 x 17 mm and weighs only 120g.
Main features:
As a young people for the social cell phones, MOTOROLA Flipout has a good standard in the wireless network function. It is not only support GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA network, but also has Wi-Fi /WAPI wireless LAN users to function, let more ways to connect to the Internet. For other functions of mobile phones, MOTOROLA not only has GPS navigation and electronic compass function, as well as a traditional 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, with 512MB RAM, 256MB ROM and support bluetooth technology and memory expansion function, etc.
Like other social media services, Motoblur gathers incoming and outgoing feeds from your friends, emails, text and multimedia messages, and Facebook, Myspace and Twitter updates and events and combines them into a stream with continuous updates. Likewise, Motoblur merges your entire home and work contacts with corresponding information and conversations to let you see your interactions with each person in your address book. However, in addition to providing a stream of updates and organized correspondence, Motoblur also offers backups of your social data which is fairly unique among social networking services. Furthermore, the new enhanced version of Motoblur provides more direct control of the Happenings and Messages widgets, allowing you to filter out updates and messages that aren’t important to you so you’re left with the most relevant info about your friends and what is happening. Keep in touch with your friends via instant, text, and multimedia messaging or utilize corporate and personal email clients to send messages on the go, and then allow Motoblur to track your conversations to help you stay connected.
Additional Flipout’s multimedia features include a 3MP camera with digital zoom and KODAK PERFECT TOUCH technology for better, brighter pictures and gallery mode for tagging and labeling of photos. Along with the improved sound quality on calls, the Flipout features high-quality audio and video playback. With a 2.8” 320×240 TFT LCD screen, you can watch video clips and streaming video on the go, and FM radio support as well as support for common music formats allows you to bring your music with you. It supports playable formats: eAAC+, MP3, MPEG-4, H.264, AAC, WMA9, AAC+, AMR NB, WMA v9. But, I find a question; Motorola Flipout could not support all of video or audio formats. But, what should I do, if I have some files which Flipout could not support. I search it on Google and find good software – Nidesoft Motorola Video Converter which could help to convert your video files to MP4, AVI, WMV, MP3 and play on Motorola phone easily. Below I’ll share you how to use it!
Firstly, download this software and install it.
Step 1: Launch the program and Click "Add File" button to load source video files to be converted
Step 2: make settings: click “format” drop list to select “Motorola MPEG-4 Video (*.mp4)” as output video format. Set your video size and quality under the preview window.
Step 3: Click "Convert" button to start to convert video format.
After the file is converted, just transfer the file to the videos folder on your Motorola and enjoy your newly created video. Another, I know Nidesoft DVD to Motorola Converter could rip DVD to Motorola phone video and music: 3GP, AVI, WMV, MP4, WMA etc. So, it is not a problem to watch your favorite DVD on mobile phone. I think these two Nidesoft software are necessary additional software for MOTOROLA mobile phone users.
Additional features of the phone include full Google services including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail and access to thousands of apps on the Android Market. The phone ships with a Li-Ion 1170 mAh battery that can provide up to 365 hours of stand-by time and up to 6 hours of talk time.
Summarize
After Backfip, MOTOROLA FLIPOUT is another personalized design with the Android system mobile phone, of an innovative square pivot design that opens to reveal a five-row QWERTY keypad with a separate row for numeric keys let’s easily remember it. Rich fuselage color also increased the favorable impression of good young users. In addition, FLIPOUT not only show the new construction of MOTOROLA stylist, but also let the Android system take a important step towards diversification
