is it possible to change some files on the windows directory?
when i try to do thet the phone tells me thet it is a read only file.
i want to change the tahoma font to the same font but with more languages support.
TnX
Try Total Commander
Depending on the file you are messing with. If it is in the ROM, you can overwrite (virtually) with your own file with the same name (but you cannot edit it).
TnX.worked like charm.

Okay, there a couple of CAB files I install no matter what ROM I use (Total Commander, Today Screen Speed Dial, MortRing [by .exe], Morphy's Call Filter etc), now that I'm getting to grips with the whole ROM building thing I have a question:
How can I add a program installed via a CAB into a ROM so that it is installed into ROM, I've searched on the forum and can't find much. I know it can be done as ROM's such a TuMa's, Logout's and Ivan's have apps in ROM which aren't there by default...
EDIT: In addition, I overwrite some of the default ROM stuff once I've installed (ETEN M600 Dialler in particular), so again, how can I get the 'bits' out the cab and overwrite the default contents of the ROM, this would make my life much easier...
If this has been posted previously then please point me in the right direction
First extract files, shortcuts and registry entries from the .cab using wince cab manager or similar http://www.ocpsoftware.com/, take note on what directory each file/shortcut is in. (often more reg entries will be stored as a file called 'platformxxx.reg' use these too)
Normal rom edit way: add the contents of the exported .reg files to default.rgu, making sure that you leave a blank line on the end, copy all the files to the \dump directory and edit initflashfiles.dat to copy them to the right directory on first boot. (remeber to remove the first two bytes - ff fe with a hex editor). then build your rom!
Bepe's rom edit way: create a folder '[your software name]' in the oem folder and get yourself a guid from here http://kruithof.xs4all.nl/uuid/uuidgen. create a blank file called '[yourguid].dsm and a blank text file called '[yourguid].rgu'. add the contents of the exported .reg files to '[yourguid].rgu' and make sure you save as unicode. then copy all the other files to the folder and create a blank unicode txt file called 'initflashfiles.txt' and use it like initflashfiles.dat in the first method except there is no need to hex edit out the first two bytes. then build your rom!
midget, you're a star, I thought it may be something simple... I'm off out with the family now for the day, but I'll work on this later, cheers!

Can anyone try to extract the rom to figure out how can it work on our Touch HD?
u can try this.
check in my signature for links.
Under romeos_sources/OEMpacks
if u want to cook in ur custom rom, the social network engine oem pack is there. If u just want to use it, extract all files to windows dir in ur device & import the reg (*.rgu) file using total commander or any registry editor. (rename it to *.reg for easier importing)
good luck.
Hello
I wonder if anyone has figured out how to display foreign language font on ATT Fuze? I've understand that it has something to do with unicode. I was able to do that with the ATT Tilt by installing the tahoma fonts but no luck with the ATT Fuze.
Thx
i got chinese to show and write using sunglobe(view only)... forgot the name of the one that lets you write.
Thx
I just need to read Viet and Chinese for now.
Any other suggestion

Any other advice.

i am using the files on my att-fuze. i can read/write my phone book, compose text in ms-office (word, ppt and excel) and typing sms. all in vn with no problem. you need to copy the files to both windows\ and windows\fonts directories. btw, i am using rom from master NRGZ28 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751). this is the best rom out there.

Hello: I just copy those 2 files to the fonts folder and the windows folders but still nothing change. I am using the ATT stock rom. Could it be the reason the Tahoma fonts can't display properly?
thx
you may try to use Total Commander instead of win-explorer to perform copy and paste. win-explorer is useless.

Copied and pasted, did not work
Hi I am looking to solve the same issue. I have the FUZE but I am in China right now and my phone cannot read chinese characters. I dled the tahoma fonts and pasted them into the windows directory and the fonts directory but it did not work. I used Total commander. I also am not clear on whether to the folder vn_tahoma or the files themselves into the directory? I did both but it did not work. Thanks.
Hi,
I wanted to customize my htc touch pro a little bit by changing the battery icon, but that requires me to replace a ddl file, but heres the problem, i cant replace it
I cant replace it using the total commander on the phone, and not using my windows when connected to my computer.
Does anyone know how i can remove the limitations so i can replace ddl files in the windows directory?
Using Windows Mobile 6.1
In total commander, copy the file to the \Temp folder. Then CUT the file from temp, and paste it into \Windows. That should work.
If that still doesn't work, you can try this:
Rename the original dll in \Windows (I like to add a new suffix like .old with Total Commander).
Copy the file into temp.
Cut/paste from temp to windows.
Reboot phone.
If THAT doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.
Are you on a custom or stock ROM?
If it's a stock ROM, you will need to install Security Certificates in order for the .DLL to work.
Additionally, it is possible that Security Policies are in place that prevent execution of of .DLL that are unsigned.
HTH,
Alright, I am using Droid Explorer, it connects fine to my phone I could use all the other stuff (screen cast, desktop sms, and screen shot thats mainly what I use) but I'm trying to change the font of the actual phone, I downloaded a font off of dafont and renamed it DroidSans (they both are .ttf, both the android font and the font I downloaded) so I figured I could delete the font out of /HT849GZ22284/system/fonts/ (DroidSans.ttf) and then copy over the downloaded font renamed DroidSans.ttf and it would be over.
I just thought of this idea, it might not work or maybe you guys perfected the idea of it and I'm just catching onto it.
But any ideas why the file wont delete?
Did you make the partition rw?
you need to make it writable to delete files
try typing adb remount before deleting
