Hey folks, I got my Wing a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I had a treo before, and this makes me much happier. I had gotten into modding the UI a bit and playing around with the best combos of third-party software on my old treo, so I started playing with my Wing. Well, I've gotten probably mid-level with my technical modding competency thus far. I'm comfortable with most progs and mods I've found below actually flashing the ROM, and I'd think about that too, but I've gathered that most of the TF roms out have trouble on the Wing. So far, I'm overclocked to 260, tweaked some stuff in the registry, installed the HTC Touch UI minus the cube and all that, but I'm not quite happy. So, I have some questions:
On the HTC Home 5 tab skin:
1. Is there any way to put custom icons in the launcher area? Not just style-wise(though that would be good), but that link to things that aren't on the list? I'd really love to but a button that would take me to "settings" in there, like the one that takes you to "programs". I have a few other ideas too.
2. On the weather tab, I know there is a way to add cities to the "select city" list by getting the city code off of accuweather.com and changing the registry, but I can't figure out how to get the code for my city when I look it up on the site...I search it, and it comes up, but where is the code?
3. I put the HTC black theme on here, but I wondered, are there any others available? I know I've seen a blue one, and I think I've seen pictures of an HTC Touch that had a red theme....
Other Stuff:
1. I tried to up my page pool to 6mb like it says in the "all you need to know" thread, but the preparation app wont work....I install it, but nothing happens after that....I can't find it to open or anything else...Is installing it enough?
2. Is there any way to keep wm6 from putting the recently used programs on the start menu?
3. Is there any way to change the two links on the bottom bar that the soft keys are mapped to? Not change what the keys are mapped to, but like, change "Calendar" to "Settings" or "Contacts" to "Messaging", for example?
4. Is there anything out there that would let me navigate my phone with my finger? I know certain programs have this capability, like Opera Mobile's latest beta and PocketCM(which I use), but I'd like it on all windows that require scrolling....
Apps:
1. Anyone know the best app to use to stream radio and/or tv on my phone?
2. What's the best way to watch youtube? I wouldn't ask, but I've found like three or four different threads/articles on ways to do it, and I don't know which I should use. I prefer to use Opera as my browser, but I can use PIE now and then, if the process actually lets me watch it in my browser....
3. Can ya suggest any good games?
Well, thanks in advance for any help you can give. I've been trolling here for a while, so I know there are some very smart people here and I have faith. Sorry for asking so much, and forgive me if I should have broken this up a bit into different threads, but I'm trying to perfect my phone, and this was basically what was left on my list....Any other tips on how to achieve my goal of making a nice, clean, finger-friendly UI and putting the picking the best apps would be appreciated too.
Peace.
Ok, I figured out the HTC weather thing, and the today softkey thing, so I'm good there. Any help on the rest?
I can cover a few for you but any more's gonna cost ya....
flash your phone with either of the touch roms out right now and you will be able to finger scroll in nearly all applications.
try avotmv, or search using google for similar programs for streaming videos(avotMv includes youtube as well as google).
Many streams to tv stations can be opened with WMP directly which makes it alot easier to connect to them by saving them as PIE favourites. You just need to find 'em first, I would suggest doing that from your computer first.
I've recommended Flux Challenge before, ill do it again...apart from that I don't run too many games from my pocket pc. Seal Volleyball is kinda fun too.
Maybe some others can assist you with the rest
cheers

2. Search the kaiser section of the forums for cube ( I tried vista cube that was pretty good)

First of all welcome!
I've got no clue about the friend finder program, but if you do a search you can probably find info about it and how to install a cube. Search, search, search!
The keyboard that I use is called touchpal you can kind info about it here: http://www.cootek.com/
Hope that helps.

I'd like to check this out. Would you post a link to the product page?
hopefully this tutorial will help fpsece be more fun/playable for everyone.
UPDATE: FPSEce configuration-imo this is one of the best set ups for the wing, but see what you come up with. a little tricky but here goes.
1ST to do this i utilize htc home and battery status plugins. i have been playing this emu overclocked to 299 mhz for periods of up to 2hrs. i do not condone this behavior! and don't even suggest it! but, you get the best gameplay out of the emu.
2ND, make sure all running apps are closed except fpsece, with your device in regular portrait mode with htc home on your today screen, open the keyboard on your wing, go to your programs tab on htc home and press the portrait to landscape flip button. if you you do not have that one activated take a sec and swap it out with one of the other buttons it should be worth it. after this your screen will look funny cause your keyboard is out and your screen has flipped back to portrait orientation.perfect!
3RD, navigate to fpsece and open. go to options/misc/display/landscape left.
4Th, go back into options and choose the joypad/assign buttons. now turn the device so you are looking at the keyboard normally. these are my keymaps but feel free to do your own! PAGE UP-TRIANGLE PAGE DOWN-X ARROW LEFT-SQUQRE ARROW RIGHT-CIRCLE A-LEFT S-UP D-RIGHT Z-DOWN Q-L1 W-L2 O-R1 P-R2 START-SPACEBAR SELECT-TAB MENU- CENTER OF DIRECTIONAL PAD on the screen portion of the wing. finally hit ok!
5TH hit the start tab, then iso and finally navigate to your game WHICH SHOULD BE IN ISOS FOLDER ON YOUR STORAGE CARD. this way you can keep many games on your storage card!
pocket iso guide- http://pdai.org/michu/fpsece/ldrguide.html
this will get your game file sizes way down and your memory card less cramped as well as more games will be compatible with fpsece.

my settings are on usa...recompiler...arm v5...GDI...fast boot...but these may or may not be the best. i am still learning the ideal options myself. i think vga is supposed to be the best/fastest but it depends on the type of device. also i know on some games, gran turismo for example, that adjusting the frame skip number does help speed the game. example: if you are getting5 fps set to 1 on options this will bump it up closer to ten. if you have 12 fps bump up to 2 this may get you closer to 20 fps and so on.
I am trying to install FPSEce on my Herald.

Setup your controller settings. Bind a key to "menu." Then press that key during gameplay, tap options, then adjust the frames from there.
Ok, i have a HTC Heremes, but i thought i'd just ask here, instead of opening a new thread in Hermes section. I get stuck at FPSece screen, no matter how i set up the options, nothing happens. I loaded ps1 bios. And i'm trying to find a tutorial or guide, but can't find any, all of them are mostly about ripping. Any ideas?
try reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369855&page=8 . also try the link in my sig!
Yea i got a question or 2.
All the ps1 ios' are like 25mb +
How am i susposed to put them on the phone since the phone dont have that much memory, and i cant reach my memorycard through activsync,
also i have dialup *errgg* and downloading iso' that big is a little impossible for my internet connection, is there a site to find iso's 25mb and smaller?
OK, I downloaded the software to play the games but I don't know where to get the games from. People have said they would be around 25mb, but I can only find ones for 350mb+. Please help. I have a Touch Pro 2
Wow, way to raise a thread from the bottom of the sea there...and about a completely different device too boot. Anyways, the games are not going to be 25MB, if they are then they are either demos or homebrew stuff. Most PSX ISOs are AT LEAST 350MB, but can go as large as a CD, IE 680MB or so. You can try to compress these down using that tool in the first post, albeit you will have to search around for it since the original creators website is not around anymore.
Ok, I've spent forever and a day looking this stuff up....so I have everything I need. Now if someone could walk we through getting my isos's to show up in the isos file that would be great! Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Did you actually download the ISO's? And if you did, you make an ISO folder on your storage card and then transfer the ISO to it.
forgive me if this post is in the wrong section - i'm new to this forum
i've got a problem with my htc p4350 (herald) when using fpsece
i can start fpsece, but when i try to load a .iso file, the screen turns black for about 10 seconds, and after that it just returns to the home screen
i cannot reach any options screen or etc.
i got the right bios copied and trued 3 different files to load
maybe these are just the wrong files?
(in that case, which files should i try, and where can i get these?)
thanx in advance
bram
hey guys... i wonder whether this site is appropriate for this but sure hope this part of the forum is
hmm i just bought a new PSP.. (firmware 3.7 m33-2) n heard tht there's new firmware released (4.01 m33-2) how do i upgrade??? n would this let me play th saved games (.cso format).........
n by the way is there any app which locks th psp on start-up like phones??? i kno there's an pwd feature built-in but its just for umd-play and internet features.. i want some app which could lock and keep it away frm unwanted users!!!
hope ppl here would b helpful as always... thanx
(ps: tellin about good apps for psp would b helpful too )
firmware 3.7 m33-2 can already play .cso files, no need to upgrade.
Just create a directory called ISO (capital letters, please) in the root directory, and fill it with *.cso, *.iso, and *.dax games.
Or, best of all, go in the left menu, search for "format memory stick", and format. It will create the ISO directory in the right place.
'njoy!

hey thanx bro.. any say about new 4.01 firmware and a locking app (if there's one)???
Sorry for late reply
I think 4.01 firmware is Original Sony only. So, if you put 4.01, you will be NO MORE able to play homebrews/games from your MemStick.
Last version of CustomFirmware I know is 3.90 m33-3.
Sorry, i don't know any locking app.
'njoy!

hey bro i just searched.. n found tht th 4.01 m33-2 custom firmware is already out.. it is said to hav some 1.50 kernel!! wats tht supposed to do?? n if i've a m33 firmware, do i hav to do anything to run homebrew apps??
Look, i'm in Italy, and i trust only 1 site (for PsP modding).
In this site they have only 3.90 m33-3.
... but to say you thruth, i'm not any more in PsP-modding , so i don't kow about news.
Most important thing you can do, with a custom firmware, is to run HomeBrews. This means, you can run games (well, almost all) from your MemoryStick, no need to buy expensive UMDs.
Search Google for "PSP roms download", and you will find many crap sites, and few good sites, to download PsP games.
To use PsP games, do as follows:
1) format your MemStick, from PsP. This will create all needed directories. Among others, a directory ISO will be created in the root of your MemStick
2) connect your PsP to PC through USB cable, and then copy your games inside this ISO directory on PsP. Games will have extension *.ISO, *.CSO
3) Disconnect PsP from Usb, and then go to GAME -> MEMORYSTICK, choose your game, and 'njoy!
Edit: I found a good site for you, to search for Games/apps/infos: psphq.co.uk
It's a forum (free registration needed) where you will find many infos
The lastest Firmware release is 4.01 M33-2.
Any M33 firmware will play any homebrew and .cso you want, but the advantage of having a newer one is being able to play games and demos that require a newer firmware.
Check out this site - Dark Alex PSP Developer
He always has the latest psp mod releases and guides to install etc.
i just upgraded to 4.01 last week and everything works fine...just don't be fooled when you're installing it because it looks like a PSP official update buts it's not.

The apps that i use most often are - SNES9x for Super Nintendo and thats all I really use, but here's a good list of emulators and other games and such - PSP Emulators
As far as .cso and .iso (for psx games) they just launch as is usually if the porter is good and all you do is copy the image to your memcard in the GAME folder
if you want any PSX or PSP images just let me know (that is if you already own the games )
as far as a locking app...do you mean an app that would lock your current firmware??? if that is the case then you dont need to worry, as long as YOU NEVER ACCEPT AND UPDATE FROM ONLINE OR A GAME you will be fine. and dont worry any game that comes out that requires a newer firmware chances are a new patched firmware is out to support it that same day it comes out, dark-alex is always on top of it.

O I see yea I haven' heard of anything like that..did a quick google and found nothing...
I guess my advice would be to not let it get into the wrong hands/stolen!!!!
hi all
best site to be on is http://www.psp-hacks.com/
there's a "live chat" button, click it... friends of dark alex hangs out here, they've helped me fix over 30 bricked psp's and mod CFW on over 100, all you need to do is ask a question, and you'll be fixing psp's within 2 mins... oh and stick to 3.90m33-3 it's does the same stuff as the latest CFW
Fair enough, i just went up to 4.01 M33-2. To me it's great. i havent used any CFW before, except 3.52-2 when I was upgrading to 4.01, so I can't really compare it with anything. Plus, I don't see any advantage of being on the not-latest CFW, except for stability.
Also, no way to downgrade CFW without pandora is there?
I havent been on the PSP hacking scene for more than a year, and havent used my PSP at all for that long too, but I was there in the old days of downgrading 2.0 using the Tiff exploit, and I even upgraded to 3.52M33 from 1.5 OFW.
So I was used to having all extra stuff to do stuff like run iso's, play emu's and ****.
Iso-play is obviously included but do most emu's work on 4.01m33? There was talk about some kind of .elf problem?
Plus, theres no real guides for using it. I worked out through a bit of memory frm the original modchip whiched used holding R to boot into the other firmware, nd a bit of realisation that recovery menu is reached by doing the same that I had to look there. But it was pretty hard to work out how to make it play ISO's. But I did it.
My psp is now amazing lol

Hello. I have been searching the internet, without any luck though of finding the programs i want.
First, i want a program, like ShopSavvy is for the Android, where i can use it on my touch pro to scan barcodes of products and find the best price.
Second, i am wondering if there is a way to have Google Street View on the touch pro. I have already seen KDKobes Google Maps Street View 2.3.1, from our forum. I was wondering though if there is an "official" or "fully working" program, as in KDJobes program unfortunately, location-data support and GPS integration aren’t working with this version of Google Maps.
Third, i want a program, like I-phone has, for Drinks (bartender?), same cool skins and graphics environment maybe?
Fourth, again like I-phone has a program where you record a song on the phone and then it goes through the internet and finds you possible matches.
Please, bare with me, as i a m new and maybe i didn't have enough luck or "easiness" finding these type of programs i want. Yes maybe i saw some "looking like them but weren't afterwards the programs i wanted, cause their functionality wasn't after all what i was searching for and was mislead by their Title Name.
So if you please know any "freeware/ or have to buy" programs that are exaclty as the one's i have described please feel free to post and tell me.
Thank you very much in advance,
Chris
let's see
1. barcode readers:
i-nigma barcode reader
QuickMark 3.3
Aura - but donno if this still works.....
2. Street view is officially supported by the latest Google Maps
http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps.html
3. didn't heard of such a program for wm
4. i know a program it's called Music ID
hope that helps try to search harder next time
search diamond beer for a drink app that turns your phone into a glass of alcohol , if you mean a bartender then just do more searching also the site Fuzemobility.com is now your best friend go there all the time look at everything there . if you still haven changed ROMS on your phone i suggest you go get NRG's new winmo6.5 build 3.0 ROM . it has alot of improvements over the stock ROM , anymore questions just ask me
Is there an app that uses the GPS to track how much you've cycled and your speed etc? I think such apps exist for the iPhone but I'm looking for something for windows mobile.
gotta love fuzemobility lol

Just giving you a heads up don't go looking for everything that the Iphone has for your phone. Most of the time it will not be there. on to you questions
Shop savvy is a great program. Our closest thing is "Barcoroma"
Google street view. I use google maps from NRG'z Rom and I can get street view on it.
Drinks IDK your on you own for this one
Song recognition. Well try out Music ID works great for me.

Where does everyone go to get there the PPC software?
I go to http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php, although its not complete list and new releaase of an application can take a couple of days to make it to thier site. I find the site easy to navigate and search. The catagories and rating system help for filtering.
