BlackBerry Connect thread Tmobile USA MDA - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Okay this is how I have blackberry connect working on T-Mobile USA tmobile MDA
1* downgraded to tmobile de 1.06 rom
2* installed BBerry connect software from TMo De
3* logged into my tmobile changed my phone to a bberry 7100 and clicked change hanheld, the pin was autopopulated for my new device.
4* sent service books.
Here is the thing, the 1.06 rom blows hard chunks and is unusable compared to the 2.26 rom.
my question is , has anyone been able to use any other rom besides the tmo de rom from back in the day?
how about the cheetahs BBery connect software?
I know there is another thread on this but it is Uber long and is filled with more questions than answers, so if you know please post here and dont ask too many questions.
My setup worked with BIS I dont use BES.

I've been using Qtek 2.17 with 2.47 radio. Working without a problem so far. My service provider is Tmobile as well.
It won't allow me to send an attachment over 60k though, and I can't download most of the attachment, some kind of error. What's your experience with the rom that u've been using as far as attachments are concerned?

I don't use it anymore cause I had the same problem as you, I was wondering if there was any clear progress in this project

TMobile 2.26 ROM on a UK Vario

anybody knows whether there are language and/or other issues that make the US.26 ROM NOT compatible with TMobile UK Vario? I unlocked my CID when I upgraded from TMo UK 1.x to Mr Clean 2.24 by the way.
I just finished installing the 2.26 ROM on my MDA Vario Dutch Edition.
So I don't think any language barriers should be an issue.
Reception is ok. and don't see any problems up till now.
Good luck installing if you decide to upgrade. I must say it feels faster.
Cheers,
Shah.

Hi,
Well I think the language (upgrade/CID unlock) is the problem for ROM 2.xx and higher (Wizard, T-Mobile Dutch). Please correctg me if I am wrong (and tell how to do it) ;-)
gtz
Hi Barneyhead,
I don't know about upgrading from 2.xx ROMs but I upgraded from a 1.3 ROM Dutch version MDA Vario.
I first of all used the Lokiwiz 0.2b tool to unlock(U) and CIDunlock(C) my phone.
After that I downloaded the US T-mobile ROM 2.26 and ran the installer.
I didn't have any issues with language or other setting what so ever.
It just replaced the Dutch version ROM with the US version ROM and now I'm running the new version without any problems.
Cheers,
Shah
Hello,
thnaks for your answer. Yes, I think it is possible with your version of ROM. I found somewhere in forums how to pass CID lock for new versions too.
cheers.

With previous roms I have used the Cingular settings were hard coded for gprs access. This meant that if you didnt change them you were charged very high prices for sending data from the UK to the US then back to the UK again. Can the settings on this rom be changed?

:?: How can sending data to the US and back to UK be possible when connection is only based on APN, and these access point is related to the simcard. :?:
So, in your case matey as you are in T-mobile UK no matter what ROM you use as long as your APN is general.t-mobile.uk ; username: user and password: one2one (it's the only connection you can use anyway) then it will be just the same charge.

The rom I am currently on had a similar problem where the setting for the connection was already set. Someone posted that they have been charged £40 for just checking their email, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52521&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75 :

the phone wakes up every 20min and it connects to the inet using the number 0014152441012!!!!

That is CSD settings mate or Dial-up not GPRS. Again, that is in the network settings.

2.26 ROM + Dutch MDA Vario Problem

Hi People,
I'm having some problems with my MDA Vario with upgraded 2.26 US ROM. Before my upgrade I never had this problem. With the new ROM I have.
My problem is that sometimes my phone losses connectivity with the GSM network. This would not be unusual if coverage in the area was bad or something like that.
But the matter of fact is that nowadays sometimes when someone call me the directly are forwarded to my voicemail. My phone doesn't respond at all, no missed calls or even the network coverage icon in the top of the Vario that usually gives dots if it looking for reception and network coverage. It's like it gets stuck or something, but only the GSM part. Because the PDA functionalities are working ok.
So in short MY MDA VARIO has good reception but still sometimes my phone doesn't ring at all and forwards every call to my voicemail and after some time I might get a sms/txt about a voicemail is some has left one behind.
I hope people who also have this issue might also have found out a solution for it. I have tried to search this forum but without any luck on this specific matter.
People who are in Holland and have also upgraded to 2.26 ROM are you having the same problem?? please let me know.
I might have to consider to downgrade my Vario to the UK ROM 2.23 I believe if this matter is unsolvable.
Thanks in advance everyone who will reply.
Cheers,
Shah

Same here
I have the exact same problem, coincidentally (?) also with T-Mobile NL... See Explanation and Help - Please [2 Parts]
Some people blame it on GPRS: AKU2.3: GSM connection dropped while making voice calls
But I'm not buying that theory (yet), because I'm not running any GPRS apps, and to the best of my knowledge my phone will not automatically start GPRS connections if there's no app asking for it.... :?
Upto yesterday I was running this:
Operator: T-Mobile NL
Qtek 9100 G4
ROM: 2.24.10.1 WWE
Radio: 2.25.11
ExtROM: 2.24a Mr.Clean
In a desperate attempt (can you imagine the flaming you receive when your wife has tried to call you twice and only gets your voicemail  ) I have now downgraded the Radio part only to the Qtek version 2.07.10 (which is the latest one they included with the Dutch version) taken from AKU 2 ROM 2.18.7.6 ExtROM 2.18.7.106 Radio 2.07.10 (you probably need to register to download this)
I have really no idea yet if this helps. The coming days will tell...
If anyone's interested to try this I can post the Radio ROM only (2.1 MB).
Cheers,
Marc
Hey Marc,
Did the Radio Rom update work for you? pls let me know. otherwise I'm going to downgrade to the UK version of the ROM for my vario.
Thanks,
Cheers,
Shah
Shah,
It's not conclusive yet. I haven't heard from anyone yet that I was unreachable, but then again: maybe they don't even bother to leave a voicemail anymore...
Marc
hey Marc,
I have downgraded my phone to the T-mobile UK official ROM as u might have seen in my signature. There is also a topic on radio only updates. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52952&highlight=
I'm not sure if I'm going to try this out on the US T-mobile 2.26 ROM just yet. Just to let u know I'm not having any problems with the UK rom. very strange. I might try to change the rom again in a couple of days. but will let u know what happens.
Cheers.
Shah
Shah,
so far I didn't have any problems after the downgrade of the radio. Maybe I'll try other ones later on, but for now I'll stick to this one.

Newb Alert...T Mobile MDA USA Questions

Ok, i'll be receiving my T Mobile MDA this week. I want a clean ROM, and the best radio. But I still want all the functions/features to work (MMS, etc.).
If i understand right, it would be using this radio upgrade, the 2.47.11 rom. Is that correct?
And for the ROM, I could use Molski's, or Ell's AKU3.2.
I'm not really sure on all the terminology, like AKU, or IPL/SPL....so some help would be great. I've tried to use the WiKi on here, but some parts are left out. Thanks.
You mean Wizard MDA Vario Rom Upgrade???
You can access this page
Or Download
Have fun
no i'm from the US, getting the US T MO MDA. Looking for a clean rom with nothing in the rom that is carrier specific; i.e. splash screens, color schemes, anything like that. I want the best radio upgrade and the best rom.
May I suggest you live with the MDA at least a month before you flash it? The 2.47 radio rom is the best I've ever used. I'm using T-Mobiles 2.26 rom. If you don't want the custom T-Mobile options that come with the ROM you don't have to load them. Just do a hard-reset and when it says it's loading the custom cabs just do a soft reset and load the ones you want.
I had an MDA before, a couple months ago, and loved it, but had to return it. Now I am porting my line over to T MO, and I remember doing the 2.24 upgraded rom when i got that one...and it was great. One thing I remember not liking about it though was my MMS. I couldn't send picture messages when connected to wifi. Has there been a fix for this?
no fix
im not sure there is a fix for sending mms when on wifi. the phone uses GPRS to access the MMS server on the tmo network . When wifi is on then GPRS usually drops. if i were you i would just send the picture message as an email. that way there are no messaging charges. you can send it to their phone # [email protected] and all other carriers have the same type of email set up
here is a site with all the cellphone email addresses http://www.hiptools.net/sms/

Can't connect to TMobile Cellular after update

I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the heck is going on my my MDA's and hope someone here can help.
A few weeks ago my MDA (8 months old) started to only connect to Cingular's cellular system and would actually make a phone call 1 out of 5 attempts. When trying to dial a number it would drop all signal and then go into a searching loop for a few minutes before connecting back to Cingular. This was with the 2.26 custom ROM from this forum.
I called tech support from Tmobile and they sent me a replacement. This unit came with 1.08 and worked for maybe two days before starting the same problem. I then tried the custom 2.26 ROM and the official 2.26 from Tmobile with no luck. Last week I went to a Tmobile store and explained my situation and the store manager gave me a brand new MDA (G3). Everything worked great until I decided to flash to the Tmobiles 2.26 ROM yesterday and all hell broke loose. My the MDA connects to Cingular again and can go hours just searching for signal.
My wife has a MDA with the custom 2.26 ROM and does not have any issues. I can switch SIM's and the problem stays with the MDA. The only thing is I can not go into the phone settings and manaully connect to Tmobile. When it works (doesn't tell me it can find a network and to disconnect the data connection even though there isn't one) I see two Cingulars in the network selection box.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or is something getting screwed up when I CID unlock the phone?
No one has experienced this problem? I have a third MDA on its way but interested in finding out the actual problem.
Network
Have you looked at the selection?
Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Networks
Is T-Mobile there? Is Cingular ahead of it? If not, does it have the problem in other areas? It may be connecting to Cingular because it is stronger.
One other thought, try the 2.47 radio rom. My MDA (which doesn't have your difficulty) has worked much better. It won't overwrite your files to flash it.
I have had the same MDA for about 6 months, unlocked twice, with the older 1.8, and the newer 2.26 T-Mobile ROM's.
That's just odd, it must be some problem with the unlocking.

Diamond sends SMS after each boot

I got me a Touch Diamond in the rounder shape of the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV. It came in a sealed box from eBay and I've used unlocking software that I also found on eBay. As it turns out, this software seems to originate from this forum.
As far as I've researched it, right after the lock was removed, the phone started sending SMS messages to the number SMS032837 each time it is reset (since I've never used this phone locked it *could* have done this already, but I doubt it). Even if I switch off the GSM radio, and then reset, the phone waits for the radio to come back on and immedately sends a message.
I have no clue to what's the message is about or whoever is the recipiant but that's not the main issue here; it should not do this, period.
ROM: 1.37.110.3
Radio: 1.20.OliNex
Protocol: 52.26a.25.09U
Anyone any idea what is going on?
TIA,
XDArjen
sorry i dont have any idea
try this steps
1-try hard reset
if not work
2- you have an old ROM so
upgrade it to the latest ROM for your country or use cooked ROM if you want
Could a program similar to RemoteTracker be installed on your Diamond ?
That would explain the SMS, as the software detects that you changed the SIM card.
yea sounds like some program like remotetracker, try flashing a new ROM, as i assume it's build into the ROM by the seller, no idea why though.

Hi,
I`ve got MDA Compact IV on T-Mobile UK with original ROM and Radio (I just need to) and I`ve noticed that after every re-boot it sends above mentioned by you text.
Actually, it sends 2 texts: 1st to 32837 (on the on-line bill it`s clasified as
"unbranded" and it`s free of any charge)
2nd to 100203005 (clasified as "SMS text messaging" and it is also free).
I was surprised as well, so started to investigate.
I`ve found that above texts got something to do with W`n Walk service and T-Mobile My Faves and they are like a system messages.
They are NOT using any of the tariff allowances and they are completely free.
I`m sure because I`m checking my bill very carefully every month and it is my 3rd bill since I started using Compact IV.
I think that every HTC Diamond and MDA Compact IV sends those texts when logging into GSM Networks, but not every network provider shows them on their bills. With T-Mobile it shows on My T-Mobile On-Line account, but not on any paper or electronic bill.
There is more info about the case on other forums, just "google" them numbers and you will find it.
So, DON`T PANIC, everything is in order.
P.S.
My handset is unlocked and I was using foreign SIM card with, whilst on holiday and I haven`t noticed any extra charges for above texts, nor any other problem.
Regards.

Hey snark_be,
I'm not sure, it's a brand new T-Mobile that I got in a sealed box. The owner got it as an upgrade but didn't want it. So it came locked to T-Mobile and I had to unlock it since I'm not a T-Mobile customer.
Could T-Mobile be using this tracking method? The seller of the unlocker could have added it, I don't know, he hasn't answered my email (yet).
The SMS goes anytime the device boots, not just after inserting the SIM.
HTC ROM upgrade site rejects my serial number if I want to download a new ROM.

That was the plan, but that seem's a bit of a hornet's nest. Can I assume safely that the T-Mobile is a true HTC Touch Diamond? Will I be able to return to non-brick if something doesn't work? I mean when I install Hard-SPL first (it's installed already by the unlocker, but an older version, like 1.24)?

Tom, they show up on my bill, so I have to pay for them. And my provider logs them as International calls.
I don't have the luxury of sitting idle because it make the device useless as a phone. I will peruse the forum about this matter but I was already planning upgrading the ROM as I find the device very unresponsive.
have a look in the rom section here and install a new one

Just flash the latest HardSPL, 1.93 I think, and then head over to the Diamond Wiki and download/flash the newest WWE ROM you find (1.94 I think).
