Ever wish you had a professional art software, but didn't have the $$$ for Photoshop?
Me too, until....
http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
i'm using it, and it's working great! and best of all, it's free!
I am using a freeware clone of photoshop called GIMP portable. The really good thing about this software is that you do not need to install it, just run the exe in any PC and it will not contaminate the operating system, it is greenware!
I've tried the regular Gimp, and didn't like it, but I'll check this out. Thanks!

For your phone or computer
Do you want a photo editor to use on your phone or your computer, because there are 2 cool ones for your phone, and they work well, and that is from a person who used to make his living with photoshop back starting in the days before layers.
They are Pocket artist, which is photoshop on your phone
and
Photogenics which is more a creative art applied to photos app.
Both have painting, so painting and drawing on your phone is a real thing...
Soon, phone art shows...
The drawback of both programs is they cost a fair amount of bread, but they work, my only complaint is that Photogenics needs a regular undo in addition to their unique work-flow.
I would love to see a version of Gimp on windows mobile.
cheers

You can try GIMP, it's basically a free version of photoshop... wait that sounds like warez, the makers made it free
GIMP is the best way to go if you're looking for freeware. I can vouch for the fact that it isnt warez. Granted, it's not nearly as loaded to the gills with features as photoshop, but for basic stuff like icons and theme editing, it'll mostly get the job done.
paint.net can do a lot of what photoshop can and its free
Gimp is best if you want to work with alpha blending, but the learning curve is steep, otherwise (if your art doesn't have a lot of curves, you do your own pixel art, or you don't mind aliasing) anything above paint will do.
I personally use Krita from the KDE app library. It's a bit more powerful than your standard image editor. I don't really like GIMP much because of some stupid decisions on the part of the programmers that make the program a hard tool to use if you're doing pixel art or just about anything, for example, having to resize layers after you've re-sized the canvas or that damn erase tool, I want an erase tool that erases, not gradually blurrs out, erasing a single pixel is a pain because it'll also diffuse the surrounding pixels. I'm sure there's a way around it, but it's just not intuitive.
My understanding is that paint.net
was written by a guy in college who didn't wanna pay for photoshop 7.
My source..his website.
I think he also mentions something about paint.net being able to take photoshop plug-in. Something I don't think GIMP can do.
I just finished a Digital Photography class using paint.net. Prior to the class my digital editing was all done with MS paint. Transferring to paint.net was not that hard. Remember that ctrl+Z is your best friend in the world.
I tried GIMP before getting paint.net. At the time the learning curve was higher than I was willing to pay attention to.
Both are free. Both are highly suitable as replacements for Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop Touch is finally out
let's see how it works PS lovers

It's not the most intuitive, but I like it. I'll definitely be doing my serious editing at home but this is a great first start

yea, but the nice thing is they are vector based, & you shouldn't be worried about pixels anymore

What? Photoshop, a bitmap application, works with vectors? Explain this to me. I am stumped.

Photoshop Touch is bitmap = pixel based
Adobe Ideas is Vector based.
I got the Photoshop last night and was so impressed by it I bought collage this morning and proto an hour ago. The cloud integration is amazingly fluid and easy to use. The implementation of google image search built in saves a lot of time from having to first download from the web to your os and then upload to photoshop.Collage has an amazing feature whereyou can crop any image straight from the [email protected] This is a high class set of apps that can bring out the inner artist in anybody.
I watched this video a few weeks ago -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89hej8N1Me0
I was so impressed by that and the preview video on the Adobe site that the minute I got the email saying it was available, I purchased it without hesitation. The only limitation is that it can only save files to 1600px. Excellent app!

as far as I get it, the photos & stuff are (of course) pixel & not vector, but while working it processes vector for selection & things, I found it really damn precise if it's not vector
I was disappointed to find out that Adobe Ideas wasn't a mobile version of Illustrator which I had thought it would be, I read "vector based" in the description and was stoked, but found out it was just another drawing application that can transfer over to Illustrator as a vector...not quite the same thing. I wanted point manipulation on the Xoom...would have been really bad ass to do my vectors on a tablet anywhere.
I was reallylooking forward to using photoshop but since it cannot open local files its pretty much a huge dealbreaker for me. Once they add the ability to edit local PSDs ill be jumping right on it..

you can both open your .psd in tablet & opening your .psdx (new format for adobe PS touch) in your pc.
here is how
but few people reported when opening .psd formats in tablet, all the layers are flattened. (for me, it happens only for heavy .psd files)
I know you can do it from the "creative cloud" but I would like to do it from local files like SD card or flash drive.. that would be nice

P.S an option to export to different formats directly
I'm assuming you guys have used Sketch Book Pro? That has a pretty decent PSD export tool (which works with dropbox which I prefer and where all the rest of my stuff is). I agree with the different export ability too.
I got it and it doesn't seem to be working for me

What seems to be the problem?
I use an Hp48gx emulator on my HD2 in WM 6.5. Is there an HP calculator emulator for the WP7?
I can't find it. It will be used in the Nokia Lumia 800.
Thanks,
Daniel
Mod Note:
(last time i checked), while you may post applications, you may not post the ROM images for the calculators. Legally, you may use them if you own the calculator, but they are a no-no otherwise...
Well is there a really good FREE calculator that has a nice interface and supports trig and up?
HP 15c /v.1500/
MOD EDIT: removed ROM attachment.

i know this is a bit old of a post, but look up for "scientific calculator" in the marketplace. It's not exacly a huge substitute for a HP50g, but it should do for some basic trigonometric calculations

I like the app. But I think it would be more usefull if the pre scan mode would also do some focusing. At first I thougt my camera was broken because of the quality of the preview image was so bad

I'm almost certainly going to be buying myself a copy of Photoshop Elements soon. I've been using Paint.net for a long time but it's another program that's not colour aware and therefore useless for wide gamut monitors. I hope i'm right in saying that everything i could do in PDN, i can also do in Elements?
Perhaps someone who has used both can chime in. What do you guys use and why?

I used both. Paint.NET is a basic image editing software. I also used GIMP, it is really good but there are some features it lacks. Yes, photoshop essentials is indeed the best, as I has all the features and tools needed for image editing
Press thanks if I helped
CS5 and DXO user here.
Wish DXO offered a preset for me Lumix FZ-50.
Re: What image editing software do you use?
I'm too poor for PS, so I use GIMP. It works for what I need to do, which isn't that much.
I use Lightroom for basic adjustments, and Photoshop for detailed ****.
Re: What image editing software do you use?
Corel Paint Shop Pro X and MS Paint
Full Adobe CS5.1 Master Collection, GIMP is still installed, haven't used it in ages.
For photo editing I use Photoshop with Nik Colour Efex. My photo editing usually involves a moderate to large bit of retouching, so Elements is insufficient. I also tend to use Lightroom if it's just regular corrections.

Photoshop (the whole Creative Suite, actually) CS2 is free now (has been for a few months) on the Adobe website.
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html
It does work on W7 x64, with some work.
So i dropped the hammer on Elements 11. It's taking me longer to get anything done while i learn it's intricacies, but on the whole it's growing on me.
Made use of the ability to create GIFs today so it's proving it's worth already!
