Reassign the side OK button on Tilt?

Hi,
I've successfully re-mapped the PTT button by following the instructions from this forum. I imagine the same procedure would apply to the small OK button immediately below the jog-wheel, but I don't know where to start. Of course, the button is not present in the Settings/Buttons applet - that would have been too easy.
First, how to disassociate it from its present function (Start Menu/OK)? And once disassociated, what is the button code to enter in the registry?
I tried aebplus, and it sort of works - but the start menu still comes up on the first keypress if invoked in the Today screen.
Any ideas on how to re-map this otherwise useless key?

yes, i would like to find this out as well because i have PTT assigned to comm manager and voice recorder but now i need one toggle between vibe and ring...would be nice to use this ok button i thing its pretty useless since there is anothe ok button on the front...TIA...

You sound like a jerk for posting that I did not search when the reply prior to mine was 6 months ago.
Did you even read the thread? None of the links you posted had instructions/advice on how to remap the side "ok" button.

yes i was about to say. non of them have steps or even telling you anything related to how to get it.
all it says is people trying it matter and they failed.
if there was no solutiion you should have just said no solution, it would have saved you time searching all that and also us bashing you

It's really easy with help of AE Button Plus.
You can pretty much map any hardware key on your device with this great app.
I have it setup to be able to copy and paste by using the sliding keyboard and pressing Window Key + C to copy and Window Key + V to paste among other cool shortcuts.

Thanks Rayan. I downloaded the AE Button Plus program for my AT&T Tilt, and it is working fantastic for remapping buttons. I was able to remap the side OK button to lock my phone by holding it for a few seconds. I love the way it also lets you leave the button with its default setting for one press, but create other actions for multiple presses.
By the way, the phone locking works fantastic. It allows me to answer calls, but doesn't activate any of the other phone functions until I unlock the phone. That's perfect for carrying the phone in my pocket. Also, incoming notifications don't unlock the phone, so that I won't accidentally turn-on a bunch of applications while the phone is in my pocket. The unlocking action is very simple.
I've also mapped volume up and down to a long press of the soft keys. That alleviates the need to use the stylus to select the volume button. Great.
The AE Button Plus program was what I've needed all along to customize my phone. It would've saved me a lot of time.
One other note, I downloaded the 2.6.3 version of the program, rather than the freeware version, but I haven't gotten any info on the cost. I may be disappointed in the near future if this program automatically deactivates. Do you know if I should expect a disappointment? I would pay for this program, but I'm not sure how much it's worth to me, but I saw no information on the cost. Do you know?

AFAIK there is only one version, if you want the registered version you buy a license and there's a procedure to activate it, otherwise it uses the free version with a couple features disabled and a nagscreen once in a while.

Hold camera button?

After I installed mobile pocket plus I was able to bind holding the camera button to something... does anyone know of anyway to do this without having to install pocket plus?
I like to bind the touch dual HTC album to holding the camera button, because it makes sense to bind it to that button.

Thera are many programs to remap buttons.
AEButton plus
and some freeware.
Search for remapping keys

Go to Settings/Buttons and then remap your keys as you like. To remap the Calendar and Contact buttons at the bottom of your screen you can use something called Softkeys.

I'm talking about creating new buttons to map in the Settings->Buttons dialog... like holding camera button which is only there if you install spb mobile pocket plus 4.0
I was just looking for maybe a reg edit when I started this thread
Also... I can't find a free version of AEButton Plus. Searching for remapping keys yields too many results of people wanting to remap the soft keys on the today screen. Could you suggest something more specific? (besides AEButton Plus, and that's free)

Ahh.. I found HButton before, and even installed it, but I guess I didn't understand how it applied to my situation. Thanks for your help; everything works great now.

Right soft key

Hi i have a kaiser on Uk orange. the right soft key says 'Go To ...' ttry as i may i can not change it at all. i have tried FdcSoft SoftkeyAppletEx, Key swop, Advanced Config and even editing the registry at Hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\today\keys\113 (where they have two extra keys called 'mem1' and 'mem2'.) however whichever method i try the key always resets itself back to 'Go To'
Does anyone have any ideas how i can try and change it at all?

Thats strange, I always use advanced config for that and its working like a charm.

if youur on orange chances are youve got that crappy side bar on. go to settingsstart - settings - today - go to the second tab laballed ITEMS then untick the orange item. when you go back to your today screen contacts should be on the right

Yeah that did it cant believe how long it has taken to find that out, however is there any way i can get the sidebar back (not necessarily that one but an alternate one) as its really useful to have that stuff on the screen.

Try this one mate, letme know how it works out for you

you might want to consider the htc home plugin it shows time sms phone links to other apps and it customisable
look on the wiki page for more information

I am what? Um, I am slow today but I dont get this. I have some HTC Home cabs yeh but havent released any in my corner. Only thing I have there is a hotfix for Leo`s V9 who was bugging some of the light users thats all.

Aha! I follow now, after a cup of coffee and youre explenation its all good
About the HTC Home, no I dont have it in my corner. I have some modified Diamon style tweaked for some of the dialers but havent made a cab of it since there is floating several around in here already. I might whanna have a go skinning one if I come up whit a kewl idea though. I am working on a SPB Theme atm (well not now, vacation atm. But will continue that project once back home), after that I have planned to make a cab/guide whit a nice theme for ultimatelaunch. And I also have promised a icon pack and some animations and on top of that I am eager to get back and work whit Leo on future projects. So it is kinda tight program for hobby timeline, but if you got a certain wish you could request it in my corner and who knows what happends from there and out

How to remove panels totally

So this is a question.
I don't use them, I don't want them, I don't need them.
How to remove them totally so that I have again control on the button and that I can assign something else to it?
I would like to do this w/o flashing another rom or recooking of some existing one.
So far I was able to do small workaround so that button for them only shows small error message, but doesn't show them.

You can assign the button to any other .exe, use seach its found here. Best way to get rid of panels s to flash a lite rom.

tnx for input, I have removed key totaly and it doesn't show error message any more, but I still can't assign that button to something else via AEButton

You can, just create a new button on AEButton Plus, also remember to turn off the SE Illumination notification on the button.

When I press add button in AEB it doesn't detect it, HEX value for it is 0000, other buttons work.
On previous itje versions of rom w/o pannels I could map that key to something else w/o problems, but not on the latest ones with pannels.

Tnx, this was exactly what I was looking for, but AEB still cannot find and recognize key.

I have absolutely no idea what you could do else.
Be sure to:
- Delete the whole registry key HKLM\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager
- Delete *both* Startup shortcuts "panelmanager.lnk" and "Paneldefault.exe"
- Soft-reset
- Assign button in AEBPlus (I use version 2.6.5)
- Soft-reset
[edit] I use stock ROM version R2, so maybe thats the problem.

Our Blackstone has always suffered from the fate of an UGLY sister... from not getting official WM 6.5 to Lack of Hardware windows button. i decided to start this thread so that we can find out some way to Remap Hardware Button (HOME) to Windows start......
For the 2 years i had my Blackstone i know that i hardly used this button so it would be nice to remap it to Windows button.... also we can have the added feature of removing the Start button from bottom of screen and have more HTC HD mini like sense 2.5 look for those of us who use WM 6.5.5......
Any help into this matter would be greatly appreciated.... and on other forms ppl have remaped hardware buttons like this one .... for HERO

Actually, the home button is not a hardware key. Its a part of the touchscreen. Only hardware keys are VOL up/down (pwr, rst also)

as stated the post above it isnt a real hardwarekey so its arranged by manilladesktop.dll i believe
im writing this from my phone sso cant check if its the right dll name
if its a dll you can rewrite the dll to point to start instead of home

i'd be interested in the results of this...
i'd like to use the BACK key for manual rotate, and use the PICKUP button as default voice calling.
currently im using the PICKUP key for manual rotate, since this is the only button available to remap it's long-press function.

well i took a quick look but it isnt something i can arrange for you
all kind of strange numbers and stuff in there that i cant read
i still think it should be possible though if someone with more knowladge of dll files and writing them comes in help

yes we we once learn the art of remapping hardware keys there will be infinite possibilites to what we assign the buttons to do....
