I recently acquired a second battery for my alpine. It works fine, but when I inserted it into the battery charging slot on my cradle (connected via USB) it didn't charge. I'm thinking perhaps it cannot be done using just a USB connection and I need to plug in the DC adapter, or I have missed some setting in Active Sync. Also the aux battery LED on the cradle fails to illuminate, in fact I have never seen it illuminated.
Any information or ideas would be appreciated.
If you charge the second battery on the slot, you will have to plug in the DC adapter. It will not charge by USB.
Thank you. Now where did I leave that adapter.....?
xda ii charging issues
hello
ok so i understand that i need the adaptor to charge the aux bat in the cradle. i found my to do so but thought it was faulty. thank you for clearing that up for me. my problem now is that if i plug in the adaptor without a usb connection my phone does not charge if i put it on the cradle. the phone slot only works with usb and the aux only works of the adaptor. so i bought one of those 22 pin connections that plugs into the phoneslot and then the adaptor plugs into that and still no joy. i cannot charge the phone with either the cradle's primary slot on ac or with the 22pin conn on ac. and yes i have checked the ac adaptor and it seems to work fine. any help would be appreciated
thank you

Before i got HTC Tytn2 i had qtek9000. I had also Brodit car holder and instalation in car with cool hidden cable for charging qtek. After i bought Kaiser i also bought Brodit holder for Kaiser. I thought that this miniUSB should charge battery but it is very strange. Kaiser shows "charging" but battery is not charging. On normal 220v original Kaiser charger it works like charm. Are pin combinationfor these two smartphones different?
As far as I know the pinouts are the same.
There is a blog here which describes the HTC ExtUSB socket and also mentions that there are 2 charging modes. The faster charging, higher curent, needs 2 pins to be jumpered. Without this fast charge the current is limited and may not be sufficient to actually charge the device if you are actively using it. eg. GPS, 3g, Music etc. Try using the charger with the Kaiser in GPRS only mode, or Radio off, and with no apps running, this will enable you to see if in fact it is charging but at the slower rate. The Kaiser may need more power than your Qtek needed.
do you maybe know which two pins?

Quoting from the blog...
As for the power pins question this is simple a case of juice.
If I plug the USB cable into a HTC device, then plug that usb cable into a usb port and just wire that up to a bench power supply... the device draws a few hundred milliamps. (As much as USB spec allows).
This device, much like other mobile devices I have used which USB charge, can barely draw enough power of the USB to run itself let alone charge the battery.
However, if you close the A/B pins you are telling the phone "This is not a USB port, its a 1A power brick" so the phone charges the battery at its maximum safe rate.
This behaviour is stop the phone frying your usb ports.
...
Hope this helps
I had problems with some cables and some car chargers. It turns out that when I use a cable for sync that is fully USB 2.0 compatible everything works. For charging in my car I bought a universal car 12v to USB converter. Then I am usinging the same USB 2.0 sync cable with it. It works.
When i first got my kaiser, i used the car-charger from my old MiO A701. For a period of 1,5 month, it worked just fine. After that, for some reason, kaiser shows that is charging but it really does not!
I thought it would be a charger malfunction, but after reading the posts above i have my doubts...
Recently my V1615 has stopped charging in the car. It used to work fine and I've tried 4 different car chargers which all work with other phones and satnavs.
The phone charges fine from the mains charger or a USB lead connected to a computer which is very confusing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Anyone help?
Hi,
I had the same prob when gps and bluetooth was on at the same time... try to disable BT to try.

One reason could be that the charger is not providing enough juice to charge your device with applications you have running. I had a problem with a cheap charger I had bought long time ago. The new (more expensive) one I have charges just fine when I have both GPS and bluetooth working.

Is there any damage to your USB port? I had the same problem where it wouldn't charge form the car charger but the mains charger (the HTC one that came with the phone) and USB lead worked fine. However in my case I also tested another mains charger (from a Motorola phone) and it wouldn't charge from that either.
When I looked I noticed that the pin on the far right (as you look at it with the screen facing up) was bent out of position, and the plastic surrounding it was also slightly damaged. I managed to bend it back in to place carefully with a pin and now it works OK.
One of my Tilts suddenly won't charge on some chargers:
HTC AC charger - OK
USB to PC - charge and sync OK
HTC compatible car charger - no charge
Blackberry AC charger - no charge
My second Tilt is OK on all four chargers (as expected).
I am suspecting a problem with the usb connector but looking for a reason why some chargers work and others don't.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks
I saw a few weeks back a thread on this very forum that examines this problem in detail -- keep searching
Problem Charging
I think I 've read everything relevant. I am looking for someone who has h/w insight into the Kaiser charging scenarios. I suspect mini-usb damage.
I am somewhat familiar with HTC's pin 4-5 implementation to detect a true charger as opposed to a usb connection that can also apply power.
I want to eliminate software possibilities.
How can a Kaiser charge from an HTC AC charger and also charge from a USB connection to a PC....but not recognize a car charger or a third party AC charger that does not implememt the pin 4-5 grounding technique to identify a charger (and not a generic USB connection).
That is where I am lost.
Looking for "inside-out" knowledge...not "outside-in", if you catch my drift.
charging problems
If the car charger worked before, you can do an easy test. Just put in the car charger and do a soft reset. If it starts charging than, its only a software issue. I did a modification on a charger myself. Because I have different chargers using a normal USB cable, my device didn't charge alway as well. I modified a standard miniUSB cable by connecting the 5th pin to ground. When I use this cable for charging I never have a problem anymore. Succes.

I had exactly the same problem after I tried to re-set my device by poking the stylus in the mini-usb port instead of the re-set hole (tryng to do three things at once!). The port was mangled, and once i'd pushed it all back it wouldn't take a charge from the genric car charger. I bought an HTC branded car charger and it charges as good as a wall adapter.
I imagine that your suspicion of USB port damage is correct.
I've got some problem with this cradle,
its strange cause if the delivered charger is put into the mini usb its loads the HD2 only if I use the "charge on usb" option in power settings but if I plug in the normal Leo charger on micro usb port (which normaly is for data) its loading like usual... are there any wires wrong ?
no one out there?
Do you have a spare battery in there? I thought mine wasn't charging at first too, but that was because my second battery was charging. I only have the supplied charger plugged into the mini-USB port.
I haven't tried what happens if i connect both micro and mini USB to the cradle and i don't have the chance to do that anytime soon, might be an idea though?
Annoyingly, the HD2 sounds were played to the 3.5mm jack when plugged in (which i don't have connected to anything yet), so my alarm wouldn't sound. I found the setting where to route the systemsounds (either to device or external), so that's no problem anymore

i found someone here in forum who has build a switch to change between sync and charge mode with the cradle delivered charger, but he doesnt answer my question how he did it....
nickname is Donald24
hi,
the hd2 recognise a 'real' charger at the fact that pin 2&3 (the data pins) are shortend. so it can achive more then the 500mA that it can get from a (PC)usb port. at least at my charger things are handeld that way.

okay I managed to change my car charger this way but I'm not shure if I shorten the pins in the cradle with a switch to change between fast charge and USB connection if there will be some trouble with a connected PC...

Is it possible to explain how
So, I have the official Sony DK48 dock for my Z3 Compact (no case). The phone will recognize that it is connected to the dock by giving the notification sound, but the battery will not charge while on it. I've tried wiggling it all sorts of different ways, and tried at least 3 different USB cables, but still no dice.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Have you used original cable? I had this problem with some poor quality cables, they were too thin inside for the designed current
plug it in the mains...

With 'mains' you can mean so many things.
I guess you mean plug the cable in an electrical outlet, rather then in a computer. I believe that I had the same issue. (Worked fine in an outlet)
The DK48 will only charge the phone when power comes from the mains. It does not charge the phone when connected to a USB port of a PC or laptop.
Use the original charger and the original cable that came with your phone and the Z3/Z3C should charge just fine in the DK48; that's at least what my does.
Yes all of my attempts occurred while plugging the dock into the AC adapter that came with the phone.
I guess then it seems like its a faulty DK48...
It should work with the original cable, adapter and electric outlet (not a PC).
Why wouldn't the DK48 charge through PC? How does it know? Amperes?
The input from the computer is too low even when you plug the USB to 3.0 port... Unfortunately you MUST use wall charger for the DK48 to be working.

I am a bit late in this thread, but I will post it anyway in case somebody has the same problem. Dk48 won't charge phone while connected to PC, because it checks if data lanes in Micro USB port are used. If they are, charging is stopped. If someone wants to charge phone using dock connected to PC (I for example connect it to my active USB hub, which is connected to my PC) it is necessary to use Micro USB cable, which doesn't use data lanes, just charging ones.
I hope it will help somebody.
