Anyone got a fix for the storage card issue on WM6? I have 26MB free until I plug my card in and then it drops to 18MB free program memory...
i have 27,4 megs free and after plugging in sd card i get 25,2 free...
dont think thats an issue
free megs
without sd-card 29.7Mb
with sd-card 29.1mb
both after softreset
so indeed i don't think its is an issue. you might have a couple of programs installed on the sd-card instead of installing it on your wizard

I have an XDA IIi,
Since (I Think) messing around with the Terminal Services Client, I now cannot get Phone Signal, says No Service, it also reboots itself randomly.
I did a Hard Reset, Phone came back alive again.
Restored Sprite backup, problem came back.
Any idea's what I have done to cause this problem.
Many Thanks
Nick
Dont suppose you have an SD card inserted all the time do you ?
Seems slow speed / higher voltage SD cards cause big problems with the radio in the XDA IIi
The tomtom thread in this section has some info about this too, a transcend 80x card has solved problems for most.
If you dont have an SD card inserted then, disregard all i said above lol.
Yes I did have an SD card inserted.
To get my phone back I had to do a hard reset then restored using activesync.
Thinking back this problem may have occured since formatting the sd card with non standard parameters.
I will format using windows xp format and see how it go's.
As it happens I ordered a Transcend 80x last Friday. as advised by pocketgps.com poster andy-c1. see :-

not that this is much of a help, more of a tip: personally I think Sprite BAckup sucks.
I stopped using it after trying it 2 times or so, as it just doesnt seem to work like it should
SPB Clone is way better, but a bit more expensive too :S

Is the 1Gb version gonna be as good as the 512??
I have no idea mate sorry, i suffer like the majority as i have a cheap 1gig card that causes lockups etc ... i am seriously thinking of getting a Transcend card due to the reports everyone has gave so far and i would only really go for the 1gig size too.
Has anyone tested a 1 Gig Transcend yet?
If its the same voltage as the 512 then it should be ok but would be nice to hear some hard evidence.

hi, my first post here  . hope your problem is solved..
it seems that many ppl suffered the same problem here-- after did something to the phone, like deleted registry file which described in other post, and for me screen freeze easily after i installed some popular programme, then i soft reboot it and this problem appeared. no phone singnal, self-reboots every 5-10 minute, and as soon as hard reset it, it works fine. that is exactly what happen to my phone. now i have to put 101% attantion not to install the programme which is not necessary, cos you never know when it will strike! :? anyone know why, pls help out, many thanks
Yeah I too have been bitten by this bug. I am not sold that it is the SD card. I had very good luck with a Kingston 1GB standard SD card. I definitely seemed to install something that corrupted the system. I now am stuck in the loop where it gives me the No Service statement and then will spontaneously reboot. I am running:
XDAIIi - PH10C
ROM : 1.11.00 WWE
Radio : 1.04.00
Protocol : 1337.42
ExtROM : 1.11.169 WWE
Everything is current. Ran with my current setup for a good couple weeks then BAM! it started this. I am thinking that the registry got corrupted and that is what is causing this. The other reason I am not sold on the SD theory is that it is doing this if an SD card is installed or not. Periodically it works, and will pick up a signal. I am going to nuke it tonight, reinstall my stuff and resync with my computer and then will make a Sprite Backup onto my spare SD card.
I will repost to let everyone know how it goes.

I've got the 1Gb Transcend SD card 80x and don't have any problems with it - It's the only card that I've found that hasn't locked up when using tomtom 5. Although, I've not tried my other SD cards with tomtom 5.21 only 5.1 or 5.0 which caused lock ups. I may have to give them a go. Even my Kingston Ultimate 133x caused lockups with earlier versions altough it was fine with tomtom 3.
Hi all, do u guys encounter this problem? My ringtone is kinda laggy it plays for bout 2-3 secs and there will be a short halt and it resumes...
Size of the ringtone is less than 100kb plus it's in the windows/rings folder...
i have tried .mp3 and .wma...why is this happenning? my fren is using a 250kb++ wma file and it's working fine...
pls guide...
i have this problem twice! the second one happened few days ago. i suspect it is caused by xbackup. this problem occur rite after i recover some files which i accidentally delete by using xbackup.
can someone explain how to solve this problem?
some said it was SD Card problem, try to change sd card to transcend 80x, transcend 80x is the most suitable for Alpine device......
no didn't i said, it was not even in the Sd card. I place it in the windows/rings folder which was in the memory. How could that slow down everything?
My free memory was 32.79mb + 45.46mb, i thought that should be sufficient?
yeah im very sure that the problem is not on the memory card. anyone can help?
What he ment by saying it could be the SD card is ....
Slow speed, multi layered SD cards cause the XDA IIi to lockup and hang frequently so this in turn could cause a lagg when the XDA IIi trys to play the ringtone, even though it is not stored on the SD card itself.
but the problem is i dont even have a sd card...my fren bought the same time as me...he's working fine...btw is SPB softwares lagging down the system? he doesn't install that much spb softwares...while i do...about 4 of them...
Its very possible, every additional program running will use more resources and could cause the device to hang/ slow down.
The only sure way to know though will be to un-install them and test.
i'm not sure but i have check the running program section and there were no processes running..issit bcos of some hidden processes that isn't appearing or?
It is the Xbackup that causes this to happen,I experienced this several times when ever I restore the backup after a Hard Reset.
I use Sprite Backup instead and it works fine.
Also when restoring the Xbackup data,I found that GPRS connection locks up the phone and have to do a soft reset.

You just need to buy it..
yeah i think xbackup causes this problem. because i've installed so many softwares in my IIi(about 30programs include spb softwares) but the problem never occur before i use xbackup to recover my deleted files. is there any other way to solve this problem beside peform a hard reset?
ok, my problem have been solved after i backup my o2 using sprite backup. dun need to do a hard reset, just backup use sprite.
what do u mean? how do u get rid of xBackup? btw, how do i solve the problem of laggy ringtones? even it's wma.
Hi all,
First post, and really hope this is a stupid newbie question! Just taken posession of my new Vario III and got a 6Gb Sandisk MicroSD to fill with my junk
The card is recognised fine in the kaiser and can access it and install cabs directly from it with no problem. The unit gives me the option where to install once I run a cab as expected...
However when I fire up Activesync and use an EXE installer (same apps) via the PC for anything, the 'Install to default directory' option is ticked and greyed out...I don't think its app specific henve Activesync isn't getting wind of the SD card at all?
Am I doing something really daft here or is there a problem? Can't find any references to this on the net hence I'm hoping its the former!!!! Why would the card behave fine in the PDA but drop off the face of the earth in Activesync?
Cheers for any help.
Bump
Hmm, well its looking increasingly like card problem...this morning my Opera icons were all scrambled (its installed on the MicroSD card) and File Explorer reported rubbish filenames on the card itself (random characters).
Soft reset it, and so far its okay again (but can't try Activesync as not on my home PC).
Its a Sandisk 6Gb card from MobyMemory - what are the chances its a bad card versus a bad unit from T-Mobile? Presumably high?!? Odd that noone else has reported similar issues though?
Cheers for any advice...
I am not sure ... but I dont install software in the microSDHC card.
I always install int he phone ROM. Hey we have 128 MB I installed bunch of apps and still have 97 MB free ...
Oh btw, I use that new SanDisk 6 GB MicroSDHC as well, just to store all the data, movies and PIE cache ... it works fine till now.
I have been using a 2GB storage card for some time (first with TYTN II) and now a Tilt with never a problem. Lately when I open up file explorer to explore the card there is significant delay as the programs are listed, as if it is taking a while to read the card. Any thoughts what might be causing this? I recently installed spb tools but even when I turn off the file explorer option it is still slow. thanks...
What kind of card is it? It might be the card or your device might be bad (software problem)

It's a Sandisk. Actually I just noticed that it is also really slow when browsing the actual built in hard drive not just the storage card....
Hi,
I have a tmobile wing and I got the phone a few days ago.
This is my first windows mobile phone and therefore i don't have much experience and knowledge here.
I am facing a problem that has surfaced three time in the last week or so. The applications that i have on my storage card become unavailable and when i try to open the applications i get an error saying that sd card is not available. Also starnge folders with strange names (a lot of different characters such as boxes appear on the storage card and i am unable to delete them, where it says that there are system files in these folders).
The problem is only resolved if i do a hard reset and format my storage card by using a card reader (format of the card is essential as even after doing a hard reset the storage card does not become available). Initially i thought that it was some problem with the applications that i had on my phone but now since this is the third time that this has happened I am worried that there may be something wrong with my phone. Since my phone is still under warranty i can return it. So please advise rearding the same. The applications that I normally have on my phone are as follows,
a) Resco file explorer and Registry explorer
b) SK Tools
c) Opera Explorer
d) Mio Maps
e) Google Maps
f) Space time
g) CE Convertor
If this has something to do with the offical wing ROM, please advise which ROM to use as again I'd like to iterate that I am totally illeterate regarding this. What I want is a ROM that gives me plenty of RAM so that I can run my GPS software and MP3's at the same time, other than that there are no special requirements and I don't need plenty of pre-installed applications.
Thanks for your help!!!

Did you set your temp for IE to the SD?
This tends to do it for me.
Yes I read somewhere that this helps and I did shift my internet folders to the storage card.
So is this the culprit??
Do a search for SD Card Corruption and you'll find this is a very common problem
These are just a few topics from the Herald forum only ... but if you search the whole site, you'll find alot more. Basically, you can't install anything onto your SD card that needs to run all the time... so anytime ur phone hibernates, if you have a program running from the SD card, it will corrupt your SD card.
Corrupt SD card
MicroSD keeps coming up with corruption
virus on wing!?!?
Thanks a lot for your help, i guess i will be more careful now.
I make a weekly copy of my whole storage card in case I lose everything. I'd suggest doing the same.
I also had the SD card corruption problem. I upgraded to WM6 and it has not happened again
You should knock on wood.
Hi Faisal Aswk,
I had the same problem for many days when i first purchased my Wing. The folder names used to get corrupt and the applications could not be accessed. At first i thought it was the ROM. I tried several ROMS but the same problem resurfaced. Then i was led to believe that my microSD card (Kingston 1gb) was going bad. I then bought a Sandisk 1gb. Everything worked fine with the Sandisk. No corruption for weeks, up until one day i formatted the Sandisk card using the windows format utility and the corruption reappeared. Later i did some research and found out there is special formatting on microSD cards to be able to function properly with devices. I assumed the Kingston did not have that sort of formatting. I reformatted the kingston card using a panasonic utility suggested by a user in one of the XDA forums. Here is the link...
http://panasonic.jp/support/audio/sd/download/ftp/sdfv2002.exe
I am using the Kingston MicroSD now. 3 months till date and no sign of corruption. I have both PIE and Opera Cache on there. I have several MP3 files i keep moving around, stored and deleted several 500+ MB movies files. All my applications are installed on that card.
I cannot say for sure that it was coz of the special formatting, but i have strong hunch that it is. Hope this fixes your problem and for others as well.
