Hi i have seen the SIP (Soft Input Panel) of iphone and it sure looks easier to use the wizard for on handed operation if it were to use a kind of same layout as used in iphone
Could we create and modify he SIP of our PPC to have a layout like that?
Anybody has an idea? or can we use a plugin for this?

Welcome to WindowsMobile
I think you could give a try to :
"Restore local language support for sliding keyboard after upgrade to a different language ROM"
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
I've tried that with little luck. I've managed to modify sym.0409.txt to a more userfriendly version. This is however only possible via PC and not directly on the device as originally tried due to the fact that I'm currently nowhere near my PC.
It seems that the hardware keyboard control is managed slightly dirrerently in the Kaiser relative to the Hermes.

Paint the far bottom key bright Blue and the middle keys White to where it looks like your flipping somebody the finger and you have the tilt keyboard......

Guys,
I have no idea how to do this myself, or if its possible, however I am wondering if any of you might know how to develop a way to change the way that we presently use for changing the input type on our devices. At the moment i have to touch a really small area, and just wondering if we can make it bigger or different?
For example, at the moment, if i want to go from keyboard input or block recognizer input (for example) to keypad input, i have to touch the little "up" arrow next to the input pad symbol using the stylus really as its such a small contact area. Is there anyway this can be made bigger so that i can touch it with my thumb whilst on the fly and change input styles?? I hate having to get my stylus out to change input mode when i'm on the fly!
Would appreciate some little tweak to make this a one handed operation! Thanks.

Greets,
I have been trying to figure out how to change the regular on-screen keyboard from the Tilt to the SPB Full Screen Keyboard.
Since I do not want to change from the real keyboard (as an option), the "Input" control panel isn't the right choice.
I just want to make the SPB Keyboard come up when I hit that little keyboard icon which comes up on the bottom of the screen.
Any ideas?
This should allow you to change the default keyboard.

Try this directly. It's a keyboard that works as default properly. you don't need any external tools.
Anyone know of a list of available keyboard apps? Haven't been able to find much on the forum.
Thanks and sorry for the noob question.
Here's a few I can really recommend...
1. Touchpal: http://www.cootek.com/intro.aspx
2. Resco Keyboard Pro: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/keyboard/
3. PocketCM Keyboard: http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php
Hopefully people can add more to the list but these 3 are my favorites... Touchpal is the best imo and it's the one I use the most...
I'm really starting to like PocketCM Keyboard. It's quick and unobtrusive and has pretty good spelling correction.
What about Phone-pad T9 keyboards? Touchpal is seriously lacking when it comes to the phonepad layout; its so fiddly and buttons are way too small still. All my HTC SIPs are broken since installing the Softbank Keytouch (Japanese) SIP, and i am desparate to find another T9 solution.
Every T9 keyboard i have seen tries to fit too many buttons on the screen, and the space is always an afterthought (tiny little button next to something else). On a regular phone you ONLY need 12 keys to provide text input, maybe 13 to allow you to change input modes. The Keytouch layout is perfect, 12 biiig buttons and 4 tiny buttons down the side for options; but it doesnt have T9 predictive text
Anyone know decent options?
Finger Keyboard works wondefully, see this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163013&d=1236103349 or search here in xda.
thanks
Here are my findings (keep in mind this is just MY opinion)
- I'm using a HTC Touch Diamond
- I'm using the default orientation, NO LANDSCAPE
Rankings (best to worst):
---------
Touchpal
- largest learning curve
- FASTEST for typing (I'm using the 20 key layout)
- most features (smileys, arrows, macros for web, etc)
- full version costs 12$ (a little steap) but might be worth it, great product
2.) PocketCM and Finger Keyboard TIE
- both are great for FULL qwerty but can't match the speed of touchpal
- had to find skins for both to increase the button size to make it easier to type FAST with thumb(s).
Didn't try the Resco Keyboard Pro
Thanks for the links guys!

HELLO
I am not a devolper and mostly a free user, BUT IVE MANAGED TO get japanese input/output with iphone skin keyboard (without the gestures and loss of t9 and suggested words).
I use a wwe wm6 rom on a HTC TOUCH DIAMOND *s21ht emobile* I didnt necessairly change the regional setting, i used resco file explorer and registry editor. I DONT USE touchflo but spb mobile shell 3.5
IT ONLY WORKED FOR ME AFTER I RESTORED MY DIAMOND TO FACTORY SETTINGS. if you have any other keyboard, resco, spb keyboard, letsjapanno6, im sure it wont work as well, or wont work at all.

TO SELECT SKIN, go to happy tapping input options and browse for required vga or qvga skin for portrait and landscape> I WOULD SUGGEST DOING THIS AT THE VERY END after the soft reset
**for those unaware of happy tapping keyboard, it has an ime button which enables the device to switch from jap to eng. NO Need for ctrl shift, shift ctrl or having to deal with small ms keyboard or other keyboards that dont work appropiatetly with japanese input.
** The ugly side: The loss of t9 function and suggested words, requires more space on your device

I would like to thank flinx1 for the ime and sip name fix and A_C for his happytapping keyboard post.
I hope this helps.

Hello everyone,
Is there any way (a registry hack, I guess) to disable vibrate when dialling numbers using the phone keypad? I have not been able to find it anywhere yet. Those short vibrations are -- in my opinion -- useless and only drain the battery...
Any help would be much appreciated.

try to look the trick at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9436315&postcount=7
Dear Hakim,
I am afraid that the mentioned registry hack, i.e.:
Using Resco Registry, go to Hkey Local Machine / Software / HTC / ezsip
Add a new DWORD Value string and call it "VibrationEnabled" (without the quotes) and give it a value of 0.
then Soft reset and enjoy!
Click to collapse
is of no use to me, because the string "VibrationEnabled" has already been present and held the value of zero. I believe this disables vibration related to the usual keyboard, not the phone keypad I am concerned with.
Anyway, thank you for your response.
Have a nice day,
nvx
I think there is no hardware keyboard in any variant of Diamond2. Are you sure it has one?
If you are looking for onscreen keypad vibration: Go to settings tab - personalize - Vibration: and you have check box to de-select.
Dear TD2IN,
You are right, there is no HW keyboard in Diamond2. However, there are several software keyboards, e.g. the usual QWERTY one (a "full" keyboard) or the phone keypad (similar to keypads on older cell phones with letters "a", "b" and "c" on 2, letters "d", "e" and "f" on 3, etc.). Disabling vibration upon pressing a key on the QWERTY software keyboard is easy and can be done (as you wrote) in Settings -> Personal -> Input -> ...
However, I am concerned with disabling vibration for the phone keypad (used primarily for entering phone numbers in the phone application) which cannot be done at the same place as disabling vibration for the QWERTY keyboard.
Have a great day.

I will also like to know this if you find solution.
thanks.
