Blue Angel software debranding - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi gang,
I work for a college in Nottingham, we have a number of Vodafone branded V1620's. The project they were used on has come to an end but as a college we want to use them. We are on T-Mobile and when unlocked (Thanks to here!) they run very very slowly. Is there a way to remove all the Voda rubbish so that they are just the basic machine again? Thanks. Alex.

Tells you how to do it in the wiki. Just have to reflash with a new ROM. I think you might be able to get WM5 running on PH20B2's as well.

Hi, yes seen the bits but cant seem to work out which one is the one I need?
Alex

Imate's PDA2K Roms are one of the least branded roms. You'll need to edit device ID of the ROM though - tells you how to in the wiki.

TMobile MDAIII in UK...ROM

Does anyone have an MDAIII from TMobile released in the UK? I have a German MDAIII using an PDA2K ROM now and would love to put the TMobile UK English version ROM on it....
I have the UK T-Mobile ROM, but haven't worked out how to back it up yet.
Thanks for the reply....I'm not quite sure how you would back out an existing ROM. Does T-Mobile UK have a support website for downloading ROM upgrades and such?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/DumpRom
I sent an email to the developer to see if he could update the tool for the 128 bit header that the MDAIII has instead of the 64 bit header that of the XDAII and I.
You could try it as is though.
Anyone else have any luck dumping the full ROM from a UK T-Mobile MDAIII?
I'd like to get this crappy Imate ROM off my German MDAIII and load he latest T-Mobile UK WWE ROM...
Any and all help is appreciated!!
Same here. Someone must have one :|
I have a UK T-Mobile MDA III. If someone posts me a link to the required Rom dump tools and a quick walk thru or command line then i'll upload it.
Anything to speed up development on it as i really need it unlocked
Does anyone know if it would be possible to drop the T-Mo MDA III ROM into an XDA IIs?
I love the black case so much in comparison to the PDA2k and MDA III that I'd be willing to buy one and try it out. Of couse, there's also the issue of unlocking it if not already unlocked...
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
Did you figure it out "gonesuper"?
Does anyone know if T-Mobile UK has a ftp site to download ROM updates like Qtek and Imate?
Nothing? If T-Mobile UK is selling the MDAIII through their business channels, where is the support URL to download software for it?
Hi,
I've found a site which describes how to backup the ROM to a SD card on an XDA IIs so presumably it would work for the MDA III? here's the link:
http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=151&PN=1
If anyone is successful I would dearly love to get a copy as I'd like to swap my MDA but not let them know that I've been screwing with incorrect firmwares!
Cheers, JDH
Now that the MDAIII is listed on T-mobile UKs website, does anyone know the web address for ROM downloads on T-mobile UKs websites?
Dagger ga, I am currently complaining to T-Mobile UK about this very issue and there is another guy in the same boat. The MDA III still have the bluetooth and mic issues and although T-Mobile Germany has seen fit to post an patch/upgrade (including blackberry) the support in the UK is non existent.
I would urge you to add your voice to mine and contact T-Mobile UK customer services/technical support. Hopefully at this rate they have got to start to listen to all of us. The non existent support is scandalous for such a high end device.
Incidentally I have written another post as expansys.com on this to the other person who has these issues. See the forum: imate/PDA2K if you are interested.

Hello,
The best thing to do is install another ROM eg, i-mate ROM, and then install all the T-Mobile Extended ROM files from backup...
To backup the extended ROM...
1) Download this file to your device and run it! - ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Extended_ROM_Kitchen_1_22/Tools/xda-developers _Unlocker.CAB
(this will installed the extended rom tools to your device.)
2) Under "Programs\Extrom Tools\" on your device click, "unlock" then click ok, next click "unhide" then ok! After this reset your device.
3) With the device ActivSync'd to your PC, browse to your device from you PC and you'll now see a folder called "Extended ROM" in the main "Device" window. In here are all your extended rom files. Copy ALL the files in this folder to your computer - DO NOT DELETE OR MODIFY ANY FILES IN THIS FOLDER (unless you know what you're doing)!!!
4) Go back into "Start\Programs\Extrom Tools\" on your device click, "lock" then click ok, next click "hide" then ok! After this reset your device.
5) ALL DONE - you should now have a copy of your extended ROM files.
Hope this helps...

Thank you for the advice you have offered. Unfortunately I am a complete novice and don't even know how to get hold of the latest Imate ROM.
If you have the time could you PM me with some further details on how to download the new ROM.
Apologies for being a pain and thanks again :?

Try wiki Blueangle section:

Thanks to both DOM and the author of the above post.
I have got some reading and learning to do. Thanks for your patience for someone who is completely new to this whole xda world. No doubt I will have lots of questions along the way so I will keep this message short.

O2 XDA Mini S - What is the best ROM for Push email

Hi All,
I have been reading the posts on this forum for the last 5 days and just need some advice.
Just got the Mini S and woudl like to know what ROM to upgrade to, various posts mention the QTEK or the IMATE and to be honest I am a little confused.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I need to use the lokiwiz program to unlock the SIM and CID before I attempt the upgrade ?
Thanks
Dan
You would also need to remap the keyboard as the O2 version has a different keysheet. The O2 build with push will be available within the next week or so.

I'm in a similar boat to the OP. Been watching the forums for a couple of weeks and am finally in a position to upgrade the ROM - still not sure to go QTEC or iMate....and now Lord Buckingham throws O2 back in the mix!!
@ Lord Buckingham - can you qualify where you have heard the news about the O2 ROM as all I have seen is pure speculation so far on these forums?
If any other Mini S owners can comment on the QTEC/iMate ROM argument that would also be a great help!
thanks.
I've just installed the Qtek 2.17 Rom on my mini, but now i'm having activesync problems. Not sure it's related, although I am tempted to try the Kjam 2.16 rom to see if it's any better. Will let you know when i've installed it...
Ady
I've been using the iMate 2.16.9.1 rom since it came out in feb, and it works fine for me. Dtharby, To answer your question you do need to use lokiwiz to unlock the SIM and CID before upgrading
After hacking around on my Laptop, I've resolved the activesync issue I was having, without going back to 2.16. So 2.17 seems stable, fast and bug free so far...
thanks guys. It's reassuring to hear there's some Mini S users in the UK that have has success with the new ROMs.
I think I'll try flashing tonight....maybe going to go for QTEC (just cause it came out later!!)
One last thing - is it actually possible to roll back to the shipping O2 ROM from these new 2.x ROMs?
cheers!

New o2 Mini S - Whats the best ROM to upgrade to?

Hi All,
Ok, ive been doing a ton of reading on this forum trying to learn about the device and what i could do with and without.
One key thing people say is get rid of all the o2 customization stuff. I understand this is done best by upgrading the phones ROM. I read lots of talk about the Qtek ROM being a popular choice.
I have been playing about with cabs and roms since reading this forum. Currently i have the "RUU_Prodigy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe" ROM installed on my phone.
My question is, what ROM file shall i upgrade to? Or is the one i am on now ok?
I have also been looking for the task bar program ive seen talked about. Can anyone tell me this programs name?
Thanks for any replies!!! =]
D.
better rom for o2 mini s
I would like to know this too. I've searched the forums for the last couple of days and it's a minefield. :?
I've just got my XDA Mini S from O2 and would like to upgrade my ROM.
Also what good software is there for this model running WM5. Already have Totalcommander and have tweaked the Camera and opened up Engineer mode but not a lot else.
Can anyone suugest the best ROM to upgrade the mini s to - it looks like we'll be here forever waiting for 02 to release. If someone could post what ROM they have upgarded their UK mini s to that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

O2 Mini S
I am using the following ROM on a number of phones primarily to enable Direct Push email:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/ login xda password xda
Under Qtek Roms:
186504-ruu_9100_2170702_21707102_20710_qtek_wwe_ship.exe
Look for one with this in it 2170702_21707102_20710
Only niggle would be the keyboard issue in that it is mapped differently. You can make a change in the registry to correct this:
I also used the following tools:
Under Misc:
Lockiwiz02b to unlock the phone and CID
aWizard-v1_3beta2 does a similar thing but also enables RAPI needed to talk to the Wizard during a ROM upgrade.
MobileRegistryEditor by Breaksoft
Also it may be worth getting the UK_GPRS_settings.zip file to enable the GPRS settings.
I've just put this ROM on my O2 Mini S
RUU_Prodigy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
And all seems to be OK.

UK newb question - Wizard ROM update.

Forgive my general newbie ignorance, but this seems the best place around for knowledge on this stuff.
I have a Qtek-branded Wizard. I bought it SIM-free in the UK, and use it on the O2 network. I'd like to get the latest ROM update, as made available to O2 customers via its website for the XDA Mini S. However, because I don't have an O2-linked phone, the RUU software it provides doesn't work.
I've tried accessing the same stuff on the Qtek site, but it refuses to recognise my IMEI, so I can't register on the site.
So now I'm at a bit of a loss. If I knew what I was talking about I'm sure I could install ROMs from elsewhere - like right here - but I don't.
Anyone got some advice for me on this one? Any help would be rewarded with great and pleasurable things.
I have the 2.21.4.1 O2 upgrade file, PM me with your e-mail address and i will send it to you.
Actually, as I have a Qtek phone I'd rather get the latest Qtek upgrade. I've found a 2.17.7 RUU - is that the latest Qtek one you know?
Although, is there a possibility that installing that ROM would screw up my O2 service?

HTC 3600 and Dopod WM6

did someone tried the dopod wm6 rom on an HTC 3600?
Thanks
I did.
Works very well for me. No bug at all. I'm happy with it.
what about the fix time of the GPS?
any changes in speed of the whole system?
and the battery life time?
Thanks

I've upgraded my P3600 to WM6 (Australian ROM)
GPS - First detection is slow IMHO. After that it runs great.
Changes in speed - No changes so far I have noticed, in other words it still runs fast
Battery life - Is great depending on your usage. Just disable your infrared. That alone makes a lot of difference.
Where did you get the image ROM?
What is the difference between DOPOD and HTC Australian ROM?
Thanks

Does it matter where I got it from?.. Or do you want to know where you can get it?..
http://rapidshare.com/files/42337174/D810_ANZ_WM6_Upgrade_20070709.zip
I do not know what and if there is a difference is between DOPOD and HTC Australian ROM.
I just know that the ROM I used didn't have customized DOPOD screenlogo's/programs etc installed AND that I have only one issue since running this ROM but I think it's WM6 related:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318013
All the OFFICIAL ROMs providing wm6 for trinity, so far, are from Dopod, including the rapidshare link above.
This is why it's called: 'D810' and not HTC P3600 in the link.
You may notice very few Dopod's customization, but it's still a ROM from Dopod, you can see, for instance, some Dopod's ringtones in the alarms and ring lists.
As far as the localized operator settings are concerned, I can't tell, since I did not install their extended ROM, I don't have any either, except for the ring tones I just mentioned before.
Regarding the new ROM performances, I think it has increased a lot from the previous April wm5 release from HTC: faster, better look etc.
The GPS is a little bit faster, but not much faster, but I think it has more to do with the new radio.
For example I could not get any fix with the 1.46.00.01 one from SEA. But it works quite well with the 1.46.20.01, from ANZ.
The most impressive improvement is the wifi connexion, which is stable, and fast. (it was a disaster with previous radios, especially the 1.38.x series.
Just to make myself more clear:
1)
I know all the trinity ROMs are made by HTC. What I meant is not 'made by Dopod' but, branded, designed for Dopod.
2)
I have read here before that wifi has nothing to do with radio but just with the ROM itself. I don't know, but what I can tell is that, the previous wm5 plus 1.38/1.41 radio series had always given me poor wifi performance.
But wm6 with 1.46. series is perfect in terms of wifi perfs.
At last do you think that flashing with an official ROM (Asian or Australian doesn't matter) i will not have any king of strange problem like with the wm6 coocked roms?
I want wm6 but i want all the features work on the device too.
Thanks for your patience, but i'm going to buy my HTC p3600 nad i will do only if i can have a perfectly working WM6 device with working GPS.
Thanks

Since there are no garantees there is a choice to be made. The P3600 is still unique in his features. It's the ONLY Window Mobile based PDA with 3G enabled and GPS onboard.
And what you do want to consider is that even if HTC releases a WM6 for Europe, there are no garantees that the ROM won't have any flauds.
Exactly, there is never 100% garantee to be fully satisfied and get no default or bug. This is why the reseller is there to offer you a one year garantee, so if you fancy the specs of the device go for it.
I don't want to start any debate about which programmers have more skills and more time to do proper job.
Individual ROM cooks are amazing and none of us will ever reach their skill levels, and they do it for free, just for the pleasure of sharing with us, so we owe them the greatest respect for that.
But obviously , after having tried both, I confirm that there are less conflicts and bugs in the official ROM than in the cooked ones.
Also because they take more risks by adapting applications that where not designed for the device (ex: touchflo and kaiser interfaces in trinity)
But I do believe that new cooked ROM from now on will be far more reliable than they were in before (wm6 ones), mainly because they now have a stable basis (the official dopod release) to make their own developments on.
So the difference might be slighter and slighter in those respects.

Does this ROM update go as easy as the GPS unlock update?
I've done ROM updates that made you go through several activities and I just screw them up.
I'm looking for the simple version.
Jerry
Tried this and no luck
I have an HTC branded and unlocked P3600
I got this error:
Error 294 - Invalid Vendor ID
This update utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone.
Ideas?
No, it is not as easy as the GPS update ROM, and cannot be compare as you just experienced it because:
- it's not a HTC release, it's a DOPOD release, aiming at Dopod D810 clients, from South-east Asia and Australia-New-zealand.
- the ROM is heavy protected by its SPL to not install onto other CID devices.
- The previous Hard-spl crack doesn't work anymore and if you try to install it: luckily u'll get an error it will refuse to install, unluckily, it will get stuck in the middle of the install and you might even brick your device.
That's why you could not manage to install it. There are plenty of topics over this issue on this forum, you can try one of those workarounds, but take all responsibility if something unlucky happens during the upgrade process.
By the way: SIM unlocked, doesn't mean CID unlock, you can install any SIM card you want from any provider, but your phone's CID still belong to a language, a geographical area, and a manufacturer, which is HTC, not DOPOD ;-)
Come on guys...
read and use your brain..!!
Use this SPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632
and flash this rom. works for me like a charme. I've an normal HTC P3600 German Version - no special unlock.

that is it..
read the link I gave you. it is very simple.
copy this file to your pocketpc and execute it! works in 10seconds..
I clearly should do more reading before attempting this
Well, from you link, i can see that the boot unlocker works but i can't get back to my device because it's stuck in a boot loader rainbow screen.
How do i get it back to the OS?
I told you so...
1)
Don't think it's easy and simple, every one got different skills and experience and you don't help the noobies by saying "flashing a SPL protected ROM is 'easy and simple, just use your brain'...
Better being warned of the worst, if you want to do your best...
2)
There is a sticky thread in this forum about 'how to unbrick or unstuck you phone after having failed to flash the Dopod's ROM.
Read it CAREFULLY and try it out.
3)
Next time you try, use Olibro SPL or, more simple and safe for beginners, try to flash a ROM without SPL/IPL.

can you give more info on where you're stuck? (what is shown on bootloader screen). i'm assuming you've tried a soft reset to exit bootloader...
it's not that hard to flash a rom, the official dopod wm6 included. follow the guide here which will allow you to flash it without the new spl. it's still recommended to flash hard spl before a ROM flash to be safe.
