Ok I have searched and not run across anything without reading every thread in here.
How do I change my default input method from keyboard to letter recognizer and MAKE it stick.
I change it i the input menu and reg edits but every time I soft reset it is back.
...we're on the same boat :?

I'm after the phone pad so I can still use the 8125/Wiz screen as a normal phone keypad at times and not have to whip out the stylus.
whatever you do, dont use registry wizard to set it... I white screened a week ago doing that, hard reset
hope to find a solution
Perhaps this:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SIP
DefaultIM {42429667-.... or one of the others {42429690- {42429691-
Look in the neighborhoud HKCR\CLSID\{424296...... for the others.
Cheers
edit: In case it wasn't clear you need to fill in the whole CLSID in the DefaultIM string value. So {42429667- including the } at the end.
It should work after a soft reset (gone with a hard reset)
Any Solutions to this yet?
Thanks
Jules

I'm on a Charmer, I used to able to change the Letter Reg SIP as default before I upgraded my ROM. I thought I'm the only one.
i'm triing to change the reg value with total commander and with wizard reg but after a restart the phone hang on white screen... someone can help me?
i want to use nullkb as default probably is not possible?

yes but i make a hard reset after the first try (manually change registry with tcmd) and i try in another way...white screen in every try
lost in translation...
I was saying that if you TRY to use registry wizard to set it, you will get a white screen, and be left having to HARD RESET....
Not the best solution, but perhaps you could use my program SwitchSip to change the SIP on every soft reset. I don't know if it'll stick though, I've never tried...

thanks i try with your program, i never search the forum enough if i don't found your post.
i don't know why there is no possiblity to change default IM in the WM configuration.

I think we've all tried the method. Read the posts above carefully.
Just as a problem recap: the default SIP reghack no longer works on AKU2 ROMS. The kbd default occurs after a soft reset no matter what you have changed the registry value to.
I'm working on this one too. I coded up a program that quickly set the SIP to block recognizer and exited figuring I could just add it to the startup programs folder to switch over after a soft reset.
However, while this program works just great normally, it doesn't change the SIP when run at startup. I am working on why this is, currently. So far I've determined that my program is able to find the block recognizer SIP so the SIP dll is loaded. Tomorrow I may get a few more minutes to work on it. I'll code my program to check to see if it correctly set the SIP to block recognizer and re-attempt to change until it's successful. I'm guessing that this will have no effect on the issue since my current working theory is that the kbd default is set sometime after the startup programs run.
Guys, I don't know whether my app worked or not, but this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=317635#317635
seems to suggest it did. I don't have a wizard to test it on though
V
@vijay555:
I've got my little app set up on my today screen so I can just tap it quickly after everything's loaded to change my sip but it won't work if I drop it into my startup folder.
Perhaps this is what the poster you refer to is doing? Does your program check the default SIP using SipGetCurrentIM after you switch to see if the operation worked? Or do you just check for an error code after calling SipSetCurrentIM. Me, I'm just checking for an error currently and am not getting one.
Sleuth255: I really can't remember how I did it, I wrote it in c++ before I could program in c++, somehow. I'm on a promise to rewrite it sometime, and turn it into VJSipSwitch, for now it's merely a bastard child.
However, despite this, it's also designed to be configured as a shortcut to be launched from a hardware key or shortcut... if it becomes an issue, I'll look over the code again.

I have been recently messing about flashing various WM6 ROM's to see which one I might settle on, however I have come across one issue which annoys me so much that I would choose not to go down the WM6 route.
On the phone dialler I now have a bar going across the screen which displays two lines of my contacts. I don't want this. I want the usual phone layout that I have used for the past dozen ROM upgrades.
Is there a way to remove this? I have tried all the settings on the phone but to no avail. Will it dissapear if I re-skin the phone with something from Eten?
What surprises me is that I have not seen anyone else mentioning it on any of the WM6 threads - Does everyone like this new layout?
Vista Dialer
I also found this annoying. I downloaded the following
Jimm98y_vista_dialer.zip
in the development/hacking section. I think it is much better than the old WM5
dialer skin. You can see the screen shots there.
You will probably also need to edit smartskey.ini to allow the dpad to function in the Phone app. With the Underground ROM that was a pain if I remember correctly as it is a system and RO file. I ended up making a cab that created a \Program Files\Smartskeyand copied my smartskey files to that folder. Then stopping smartskey, deleting the shortcut in \Startup and then running Smartskey from the \Program Files folder.
What a PIA! Another reason I went back to the Orwell ROM (after I took the green comm manager with me..)

Thanks Tony. Just done it and it worked a beaut.
I am familiar with flashing ROMs. After flashing NBD 8.0, I managed to drop the phone to the ground just as the device was resetting. The touchscreen is cracked. I now can't get past the align screen program. Though the crack is at the bottom right of the screen, I have problems with the pointer on the top right; after some futile clicks there, at the best align screen starts from the beginning.
Obviously any number of resets doesn't help as the align screen is the first thing to come up.
Is there anything that I can do? It is not trivial for me to get the touch screen fixed in the next 10 days.
Edit: For once, I found the solution outside this forum. The solution was to somehow to get activesync work, and then use it to remove the welcome shortcut in windows\startup. This made the align screen program (and may be something else too) not appear during the initial bootup. Touchscreen is pretty much dysfunctional now; but I at least have the phone working.

I found this some time ago, I never used it but you may want to give it a try.

I have the same problem, and i have no idea to figure it out .... maybe it is only bug in NBD v8.0 for few devices .... so we could contact autor directly this version of ROM and ask him ... because i dont know ....
Skip Align Screen
I can confirm that the program works.
BUT the touch screen becomes unusable!!!!
Mine's broken so it won't make a diff.
My touchscreen had a crack only at the bottom. After skipping the 'align screen' during initial ROM load, I lived with a non-functional touch screen for a day or two. I then remembered the post from equinoxe that had registry settings for his phone. I took those settings and updated my registry. I now have a decent touch screen - at least the top 3/4 works fine.
The key and settings are:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData"="1922,1957 3330,639 3317,3276 600,3230 609,677 "
I could surmise that the screen is being treated as a square of 3900 x 3900 dots. 0,0 seems to be the top, right corner.

I asked the same question awhile back and pretty much got no useful response. It's actually easy. All you have to do is to put a file in the root of your mini-sd card named welcome.not and the system will skip the alignment stuff (and presumably all that crap with moving the appt and stuff too).
mate .... im using your advice to remove the windows shortcut on windows/startup .. but i cannot proceed ... a warning appeared after my attempt to delete the file :
-----------------------------------------------------
Error Deleting File
Cannot delete file Welcome : Access is denied .
Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type .
-----------------------------------------------------
that is the exclamation .. is this because the file is a read only ?? how can i change the file permission ??
thx b 4 mate ...

Same problem with me, even with the welcome.exe, so that's not gooing to cut... my next attempt is the registry tweak, i'll create the reg file and put it to SD, every time the alignment is messed up, re run the reg and soft reset
Little update
I've been toying with my k-jam trying to find a solution, i'm writing this as the process is being done.
So i installed and ran the remote remote screen alignment tool mentioned above (attached for simplicity) I only used the first option in the software (you'll see, you wouldn't need the other 2, unless you have working screen alignment)
At least, now I know that after a flash, the phone will work, the screen iffy but... we're in!
I'm trying the registry tweak now, looking for a registry editor for PPC.
OK. PHM RegEdit will do for now, installing
I'm using the regedit because i'm not sure what's the RegistryEditorVersion for WM6, hopefully PHM will lock the settings in
I've manually changed the calibrationdata numbers with great difficulty, soft reset and now the screen is beyond effed up... tapping start goes to calendar..
tapping calendar opens contacts...
Ok just for the sake of curiosity, checked regedit again to find another set of calibration numbers, re-entered the numbers from the post above. This time the numbers remained. No soft reset, just shut down the wizard and turned it back on.. i've regained much of the touch but now i believe it's the digitizer to blame.... will open up the wizard and keep u posted.
So as far as my experiences go for this, software-wise, definitely a success with the calib data given. hardware-wise to be determined..
HTH
Edit: can't attach the remote tool so here's the link

Thank you !!!
thank you so much, it worked with no problem...
hehe
maybe i have a solution too
i had a broken screen too but still could enter my device by using SOTI
http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro
after a while the battery drained and when i reconnected it it did a hard reset
i got stuck at the align screen too
but soti already installed on my device even it didnt setup yet
soti has this task manager and i fooled around with closing some threads, i dont know wich ones exactly
anyway i could pass the align screen that way
i have lg ks20 how to skip align screan
the welcome.not function works perfectley...
a blank note pad file saved as "welcome.not" change save as type from text document to all files, then i put it in the root of the sd card and the internel momory...
to sum up:
to skip the align screen:
create a blank file with notepad and rename it to welcome.not
place it into root folder of the internal memory of your phone and soft reset
worked like a charm on touch pro

Calibration data
I tried the registry value but, no success.
Could someone provide Screen calibration data from properly aligned Wizard.
it can be found here
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData" =
Thanks
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData"="1903,1948 3181,636 3187,3240 607,3242 592,648"
A little extra info on my Cingular 8125 device with Mfrazzz's Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM.
My original problem was no touch functionality in the top 1/5 of the screen.
I did a system hard reset and was stuck in the Align loop.
I used Windows 7 Mobile Device center to access the device.
I used the SD card welcome.not to bypass the Align, but the xy of the touch point was WAY off, perhaps 20% of screen.
I tried to edit the registry using the reg editor installed in the ROM but could not navigate well enough using the D-pad keys and hardware keyboard.
I installed CeRegEditor on my Win7x64 machine, connected using W7MDC and then connected with CeRegEditor. I edited the coordinates
I installed CeRegEditor and updated the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData"="1922,1957 3330,639 3317,3276 600,3230 609,677 "
The alignment was still way off and the Screen Alignment app would still get stuck.
Then I changed the MaxError key value from 16 to 4000.
Bingo! After a reboot the next alignment was accurate and I can now use the touch screen normally.
I believe the screen calibration error was outside the maximum causing the Align loop.
Post if you find this useful.
Good luck!

please any one help me !
So I've tried every trick in the book. The official HTC fix, various cabs, registry edits, and Kaisertweak. And my backlight has always shut off after 10 seconds. Finally I found something that works for me: By running IM+ in the background (with the prevent automatic shutdown option enabled), my phone stays on with no timeout. I know many people have found different fixes that work for them. But as I've seen many people still don't have a fix. So perhaps some guru here could extract the code that makes that IM+ program work and put it in an exe that can be placed in the startup folder?
I had the same problem, my fix was to install the latest .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable. Hope it helps someone else.
The only thing that works for me is...
S2U2. With the stock "device lock" program, my phone reverts to ten seconds for the back light every time I lock it.
S2U2 for whatever reason causes my phone to adhere to whatever option I choose for the the back light.
Ive ended up with stupid issue here, basically I replaced my digitizer with a cheap ebay one and made a mess of it, so now my touchscreen doesnt work. Ive been ok with that until today I flashed the rom to unlock the phone and the first screen pops up with "Please tap the screen to set up your device" or something similar. Thats something I cant physically do so if anyone knows a way around that I would LOVE to hear it
Cheers.
Not yet
People will recommend using tools such as mymobiler and such, that enable you to connect to your device over the PC using activesync.
It does work, for the first tap only. The screen alignment after that is where you are boned, I find myself in the same situation.
Try researching for registry keys that can be modified, as programs like Soti's Pocketpro will allow you to modify registry keys. I'll post if I find anything similar.
search for and read about "welcome.not". the idea is to create a blank file named "welcome.not" on your storage card so the phone chooses to skip the screen alignment wizard on first boot up.
The "solution" may be:
Try flashing one of Witschey's ROMs, because he does not include neither screen alignment nor apps setup in the ROM, so that you'll access the device after flashing, no need to soft-reset nor anything.
The question is, what are you going to do if you can't touch the screen ?
Well, i can do a few things that I need with it. Use it as a phone for a start
I get a free upgrade soon so Ill go with the hero or an iphone but until then I will need a phone and an mp3 player. You can still kind of use google maps even for GPS its just tricky. I did manage my way around London with it lol.
Thanks for the tips anyway guys, Ive tried deleting the welcome file already today but the device kind of locks after that in that you cant really see any icons, even tried 2 roms with it. I will give that Witschey ROM a go though that sounds like it could be the answer to this.
welcome.not
Welcome.not file worked for me, but I did not put in on a SD card, just in the root of the device after MS does activesync.
My computer<device<double click<paste
Took the battery out, turned it on, presto.
Thanks for that!!
No need to reflash, was cool.
Well I tried a Witschey ROM and its working great! Thank you afn961 for that one. It runs very fast indeed as well compared to the stock T-mobile WM6 I had on there. Only issue I have now is that I cant access some menus without the touchscreen, worst one being the running programs menu so stuff just stays open. Cant win em all though.
quite a few cooked ROMs these days are built so that the screen alignment wizard is skipped and it won't show up unless you invoke it explicitly.
i suggested the "welcome.not" approach because it is known to work in terms of skipping the screen alignment wizard and i thought you wanted to stick to the ROM you had because it was to your liking, else i'd have suggested one of the ROMs mentioned in the first paragraph.
finally, you CAN manage running applications using one of the many third party task switchers. i will suggest "showcase" or "taskfacade". the idea is to map your PTT button to invoke the task switcher. not sure if the following will work properly but you can set the default htc task manager to close applications (instead of minimizing them) when you press OK. so you can press OK to exit the foreground application or you can invoke the third party task manager to SWITCH to another application. that way, you get multitasking AND the ability to close the applications you don't need.
check it out and let us know how it goes, good luck!
