Check to make sure that it is an "original" ROM not a retweaked one. I haven't had the problem you describe.

what are you using to decompress the RAR? and when was the last time you updated it? I use WinRAR and have no issues. If you have a recent (last couple years or so ) copy of WinRAR and are still experiencing this then you probably got a bad or incomplete download -- How big is the file?
i have winrar as well and the files are about 60 mbs and 50mbs

hey
I am using windows xp on my desktop so when i try to extract the nk.nbf files using dumprom a window opens like that of cmd prompt and closes immediately. can anyone tell me of a software that works on xp since i dont know linux, unix and other stuff expect windows.
I searched the forums but I could't find such programs.
can anybody help me plz since I am trying to cook rom on my own using the procedure given by faria .
I found that the batch files that are included in the ROM cooking tools don't work, but typing the commands that are in the batch files work fine. Try that, it worked for me.
Not got around to cooking my own ROM yet though
HTH
Andy
try looking here
THANKS it worked
Still need help
Ok I must be missing something.
I probably found it but just did not know it.
most things need a nk.nbf file to start with.
Where do I get one ?
Does it make a differance what it is ?

It makes ALL the difference
The RUU files are compressed pakages with the various files used in the update process one of which is the nk.nbf (always with that name)
So no matter if the OS is WM5, WM6, cooked or official, a radio only, a splash image only, it is ALWAYS named nk.nbf since it will be looked by that name by the updater application.
hope it was clear enough
cheers

Use my tool (Wizard Service Tool) as it extracts all the files in a nk.nbf without command lines and without any hassle
cheers
Thanx. Worked great. Why doesn't WinImage want to open the .nb files??
Im tryin to extract cab files from faria's Crossbow Reloaded v1.5. After using Wizard Service Tool, I get the 3 .nb files.

Winimage only handles the extension_rom.nb since it is an image of a HDD formatted with FAT16; the other files are encrypted/packed and can only be handled with kitchen tools spread all throughout the forum

Ok thanx. I'm going to start my search
Anyone interested in running the newer pie on wm6?
Im still doing some test , but it looks like its working fine.
So if youre interested just let me know and ill upload the files.
Edit:
First of all use at your own risk!
If it doesnt work for you , you might need to hard reset your device.
So if you are wise , make a backup first!
Im using Q-Mobile 1.2 , and it works fine for me.
That doesnt mean it will work for you!
Still want to give it a try?
Here are the files:
http://rapidshare.com/files/88826982/6.1browser.rar.html
Note: its not a cab installer , you will have to use resco explorer to overwrite the files in your windows directory!!!!
Just copy all the files to /windows/
If it fails for any reason , try to update resco to the latest version.
I do not know if you can do this with a cab file , if anyone does know this or want to make a cab ill add it to this post.
Dont expect to much of it tho , only thing thats nice is the zooming feature.
Edit2:
If you dont like it you can manually delete the files again with resco explorer and it will place back the original files.
If you get an error , try renaming the file first before deleting.
Edit3:
Cab file!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1883685&postcount=11
I did not test this cab file myself but it probably should work.
im interested. Thanks
ye i would like to give it a try
me would give it a try too.
I would like to try this too!
Rob.

Thats weird , did you use resco 6.17?
I had no problem with overwriting the files.
it is resco 6.00. If i try to overwrite the files it just crashes, saying something about "wrong parameter".
P.S.:I've updated the resco explorer. now it works! Thank you!

it is very usefull to help people never use Winmo mobile before..
Do you mean zipped application?
First unpack .zip file on the computer.
You get .cab or .exe file.
Copy to the phone and click.
install total commander
open the zip by clicking on it
as you would a dir
copy out the cab
install it by double click

I don't think there is a phone that can use zipped files right out of the box, so you should first unpack the content of the zip, as you would do it on the PC.

pretty sure I've been opening ZIP files on my X1 via the default File Manager without any 3rd party software.
Although I'm guessing the original poster is getting confused between CAB and ZIP because Windows XP likes to treat them as the same.
I'v a question! Please help.
Well, if .zip file contain .cab or .exe then the procedure is lay down.
What in the case of zip files of theme or clock contain only .png file in that.
I mean, how to use such zips??
For more clarity to my question please check attachment enclosed & explain me, "In case I want to install that clock on my WM, how to proceed??"
Thanks in advance!!
You don't use the .zip, you have to copy those .png images into a specific folder.
Or maybe you downloaded the source images, i don't really know, i never installed a new clock theme or something.
Where do you have this file from?
Sorry Mods if posting in the wrong place. just a question......
I've Hard SPL'd my T-Mo Wing and have been trying different ROMS, problem is a couple of them after downloading are listed as a "file", for example: WP7_RUU 1st. It's not a zip file, 7z, rar, .nbh or anything else that I can unzip or open or xfer to the update utility to flash.
I've already flashed 4-5 ROMs already with no problems. I also know in some cases you can "change the file type". Is this an SD install file ? Bad download ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can someone steer me in the right direction ? Thanks....
Hi,
I just spent the past 3 hours downloading Rodriguez' MIUI mod on my computer because my connection is so slow. I usually download ROMS straight from my phone.
This time however, about an hour in, I realised that OSX Safari will unzip the ROM as soon as it finishes downloading automatically. I got into Preferences>General and change that setting, but it seems as though it didn't come into effect because I changed the setting whilst the download was in progress.
Anyway, is there any other way I can compress the ROM (which is now a folder) through any terminal commands either on the phone or on the computer?
I've already tried compressing it normally like any other folder with MM's Gingerbread ROM I downloaded yesterday. When I flashed it, I bootlooped so....
Oh and I can't download it again. I'm on the brink of going over my bandwidth allowance.
Thanks!
Well, You can use WinRAR like application for MAC (I Don't use OS X) so cant specify.
Select all the files and compress it to zip! Done!
Donate to me by clicking the Thanks if I helped you!
In theory, it would just be to compress it normally with the use of any archiver program which compresses to a .zip file. Not too familiar with OS X, so I cannot guide you into what program you'll need and how to do.
You need to re-compress the ROM files and sign the ZIP.

Signapk? But i think signing a rom is not neccesary anymore... Just turn off signature verification in recovery or use 4ext
I have had the same situation. Safari extracted the file automatically.
After waiting for 3 hours until the download completed, because the website is restricting my download speed to 100 kb/s.
I tried zipping and compressing the file both by a Windows system and a Mac. IT DID NOT WORK.
I have to download the file again.
