Wm5 vs. Wm6 -- Which and why? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I just got my Cingular 8125 in the mail today, and before I load anything on it, I want to update it.
What are some of the reasons to move to Wm6 ROM rather than a ROM that sticks with Wm5? I want to know not only feature benefits but also technical differences (improvements?).
Also, which ROMs contain the bluetooth keyboard & mouse support still in them?
I've been reading quite a bit, but much of what I'm asking about is scattered, so opinions and info here would really help a lot.
Thanks.

Why dont you read the review on the xda-dev main page?

You could read on little bit before start a new thread, don't you think???
Check it out here:

Not to be an arse about it, but it's obvious that you did no research on this question before posting. A search of the forums would have shown you the thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=244441&highlight=CDMA+Harrier+wm5
You might get more results if you at least look first. If you have looked, you didn't state it and your post sounded like you couldn't be arsed enough to look.
Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm trying to make a point that many people seem to have problems grasping.
I've searched the forums many times, and I would still post the question from time to time if others didn't just to be sure someone didn't just discover something.
I personally would like to know if there is a Harrier CDMA upgrade to WM5 or WM6 that forgoes the the radio, or if someone has tried to use the radio "drivers" out of a 6700 (Apache) to any degree of sucess. In my research, I've seen the idea floated, but I'm not sure how deeply the situation has been probed.
I do appreciate the work Helmi and others do, and I simply want to know if there is any update on this front.
Guys, does a harrier get completely bricked if it is upgraded to WM6 or does it just lose its radio/phone functionality? The reason I ask is I am a Kaiser user but I have my old Verizon Harrier that I'd like to make use of its gorgeous 3.5" display for movies while in the car (very safe, I know).
I'm on ATT now, so no more Verizon. I'd be using this device strictly for its PDA functionality.
I realize I can just use TCPMP on the wm2003 OS as is, but i figured there were some chefs that had done some pretty sweet roms for the device. Heck, I don't even need WM6, I'll just take the best Rom, regardless of which winmo version.
I know in the kaiser forums, duttythroy is pretty much the heavyweight chef. Is there a similar heavyweight rom or chef that everyone tends to lean towards on the harrier/BA? I spent about 15 mins doing some searches and reading Wikis but honestly couldn't find any info on harrier cooked roms.
It is now possible that Harrier could be hacked.
Unfortunately, the HTC CDMA hacking community has moved on. The HTC encryption on the ROM wasn't broken until after Harrier was long discontinued.
And, with new devices sporting gpsOne and EV-DO Rev A, there are now clear technical advantages to modern devices.
Ideally, HTC would have done the right thing and kept supporting older models. But, you already know that...
I don't care about the radio on the Harrier
As the previous poster mentions...Can I slap a Blue Angel ROM on my Harrier if I don't care about the radio? It would be a great 2nd device if I could get WM5 or WM6 on it. Again...I don't need (nor want) the CDMA radio on it to work.
Thanks.
no sir, tried myself, almost bricked phone DO NOT DO IT.

Hmmmm,
Although,I can answer this very precisely, and I'm tempted to,but I'll just say that after 236 posts, you still can't find official carrier's wm5 rom of your phone, that's even more Sick !
Cheers!
What does posts have to do with this?
why don't try finding it? maybe you'll know what i mean.
I did my search fool. i'm not some asshole that made a new topic to make others search it for me.
I looked on the HTC site and i looked on the XDA FTP.
I Can't find the latests WM5 rom for the 8125 that uses Tmo.

That proves it ! Never heard of a latest wm5 8125 Rom that uses Tmo.Posts have got everything, with that number of posts, you shud have known, there's no such Rom. Cingular 8125 and T-mobile MDA are basically same devices build by HTC.Any Wizard wm5 rom, either from cingular or T-mobile will flash and work perfectly on it.You searched you never found it,just a 'Hint' , you'll find all the latest official wm5 stock roms here,"Read the freaki'n forum":-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342744
Secondly,I wud rather advise you to check your language, abusive words won't get you anywhere.I can also be very abusive, but I prefer to be polite, respectfull and calm. This Forum doesn't encourage and promote abusive and hostile attitude, you might get penalized if reported or 'Moderator' finds out. Be careful there.
thank you for the link.
I know either frimware can be used on the 8125, but i wanted the most stable one for the 8125 and used the t-mo frimware. because for most of the frimware i tested shows t-mo on the load screen. for the ones that doesn't show t-mo it wasn't that stable with my network.
Also, was not being hostile or abusive to you. unless you consider the word "fool" as abusive. then im sorry, I say the word Fool often to people.
and i didn't call you an asshole if thats that's what you're thinking, I was simply implying i wasn't one. and people that usually ask without searching are.
so no need to feel offending.
anyway, thanks for the link. and i don't see how posts costs for experience. Most of my posts are asking questions in topics.
if you want to know why i'm sick of WM6 frimwares, here are the main reasons:
*phone hangs when i'm doing something, and then a call comes in.
*typing too fast on the keypad or keyboard will case the phone to soft reset, like typing an email reply.
*the phone hangs when an alarm starts and I never get to hear my alarm.

Advice

Hello everyone,
having read the Kaiser wiki fairly extensively, I still haven't been able to find the answer to the most important question I had about it.
I recently purchased a v1615 (Vodafone branded Tilt) and the geek inside of me is burning to install a new rom onto it as the one that came with it sucks bad.
Would anybody be able to suggest which are the most popular (i.e best for most common usage) roms out there at the moment?
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me.
Gab
The original rom in my tilt was very slow. I flashed my kaiser with one of Dutty's roms and its now much faster and already has most of the software I need already installed.
I like Duttys but Slueth has been the best for me so far.

If you really want to let the true geek in you out to play. Try them all. And I will see you at the NExt Flashers Anon Meeting.
hehe,
I appreciate all the advice.
I already have had a bit of a look around the forums now all I need to do is figure out which roms are where and then I'll start trying stuff out... thanks guys
Edit: Also, I have never actually flashed a smartphone before, I bow to those of you who have been in the "business" for a while, but me thinks I might need a bit more time to learn... the thing is, what sort of chance do you think there is that the whole process will drive me crazy? Seems a lil complicated, but doable so far. Just need to understand what all the various different things are for. (I.e. why radios aren't included in roms, and what they are actually for ..yaeh, im THAT noobish).
Anyhoo, thanks again fellas.
If you can follow simple intructions then I think you're going to be ok.
I'm sure I will be fine, but I have a feeling I might take advantage of the more generous of you at some point in the future again...

That will cost you some true blue Italian Manicotti.
Edit:
All joking aside, you'll be fine. You have already done more than most by reading the Wiki. Might I also suggest the FAQ Wiki. Have fun and welcome to Rom Flashers Anon.

Welcome to the flashing club lol.
There is no "best" rom , just find the one that you think is "best" for you.
Yea, the Wiki and Faq here is very noob friendly. I started up as a new ppc user , but It has been so smooth. Most of the flashing trouble can be recover , as long as you dont mess with advance stuff like MTTY .
Try Dutty rom , they are very popular and updated frequently.
make sure you have hard SPL before flashing.
Peeps here are very friendly , as long as you read and research before any question.

Which ROM to get: pleae assist.

hi all
this is going to sound stupid to many of you, but please, give me the time.
i have had the kaiser for a while now and been a member of modaco. but today was the first time i flashed my T2 to 6.1 using H-SPL. (link from modaco, the one with the modaco splash screen). anywho after seeing who easy it was to flash [ thanks hard spl devs ] i wanted to see what other roms there are.
however after browsing this site i just get confused with lots of releses with similar names, like throttle launcer...
i just dont know which to choose.
anywho i was wondering whether some could point me in the direction of a good 6.1 ROM which resemble the HTC diamond interface as much as possible (preferablly actually 6.1, not 6 with a theme, as 6.1 feel's much faster to me) because the diamond interface is much slicker than my current. also i would like it to have as little Non-stock software as possible.
many thanks, sorry for the stupid questions, it's a new world to me.
sorry for any spelling mistakes, ie the one in the title, i cant change that now.
I think you will either get 5 different replies or mods will close your thread... so, why don't you try each and every ones that you think you will like, and keep the one you like the most...
http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/
but it's real slow since kaiser don't have any graphic acceleration at all...
is throttle laucher based one 6.1? and what are your experience with?
oh hang is throttle launcher a CAB or a ROM that website you linked want me to download some cabs?
you say that TL is slow, and i am aware theat the T2 is slow as there are no drivers, i have installed the action class drivers will that help?
also mods plaese dont close/delete this, i'm completely serious, i just want some good advice.

Throttle Launcher is just an application, it's not an OS. However some cooks (such as L26) have integrated the program into their ROM. You should go out and try all the ROMs out there and decide which one best fits your needs.
ok, but can you reccomend some, one of my issues is that i cant find, them all, as they are spread all over forum over many pages,
which do you use?
I personally use my own ROM (RevROM v3.33), however the popular ones are Garmin, ROMeOS, and Dutty's (a bit outdated but still popular).

Slow? Not on my Kaiser with Laurentius last Beta3 V10 ROM + new HTCClassAction's drivers
Definitive Answer... sort of.....
Howdy™
Out of curiosity, what will you be using your T2 for? Multimedia, classic PDA use, IT tool, navigational aide, etc...?
The reason why I ask is because, depending on your answer, there would be several ROMs to consider that carry both the basic functionality, as well as advanced functionality(with the help of additional programs) for each type of use you may want.
So the definitive answer would be, try em all!! Take time to read what each ROM contains or does not contain, as in the case of ROMs marked "Lite" or "No Thrillls". Make sure to read through the threads as well for any potential problem that a particular ROM may be having with a program or any bugs that may be found.

Only thing I would say to that is that you need to do the legwork and hunt down exactly what you are looking for. The forum search is an excellent (as well as the preferred way) of finding those "must have" programs for your T2. Also, check out some of the senior members signatures for links to file sharing sites, as they often host mirrors for popular programs as they become available. This is how I got my T2 to be EXACTLY the way that I wanted it to be.
So there you have it, the definitive answer. I do appologize if this sounds alot like **BEFORE YOU POST START HERE** FAQ, Wiki, Stickies & Tutorials - Suggestions Welcome! , but that was posted for a reason and should be adhered to as everyone here is donating their time and energy, so lets not waste it .

Newbie - HTC HD ROM advice?

Recently got myself a HD (in the UK on Orange), works fine, it's as it came out of the box.....
Would I benifit by upgrading the software/ROM on the device, there seems to be alot of info on this site about this subject but im new to this device and rather confused by it all at the moment.
Does upgrading the ROM improve the use of the phone and if so could anyone recommend a version to upgrade too and if possible point me in the direction of info on how to go about upgrading etc.
I know this is probably covered a lot on here, there are lots of threads regarding ROM's etc but they all seem to be people who already know what they are doing??
Any help much appreciated

Ahhh, yes, there is a lot of info here... I can't believe I am doing this, but I am bored stiff at work, so, rather than just sending you off to read up on the wiki, I will try to answer your question, or at least preface my statement that you should go and read up on the wiki
An upgraded version of an official ROM is intended to improve upon the performance (i.e., speed and stability) previous versions and incorporate new technology/features, etc. Sometimes upgraded official ROMs are quite an improvement over earlier version. However, a good cooked ROM (a custom ROM made by a developer on this site, for instance) makes a HUGE difference for Windows Mobile devices. These ROMS generally are mush faster, more stable, more innovative and more user friendly than shipped ROMs. In fact, there usually is no comparison between an official ROM and a good cooked ROM, IMHO.
Beware though, flashing cooked ROMs is also addictive, and you may find yourself flashing a new ROM onto your device way too often (seriously).
In terms of pointing you to where you can upgrade and how to do it, unfortunately, you cannot upgrade to a cooked ROM on the HD yet, as something called "Hard SPL," which allows you to safely (i.e., without ruining your device) flash non-official ROMs onto your device, has not been released yet. You apparently can change official ROMs, but as you are new, I would suggest you wait on that. If you want to take a look anyway, see the last several posts on the stickied "Hard SPL...Placeholder" thread above (this thread will also alert you on the status of Hard SPL).
Until Hard SPL comes out, you can take a look at the Wiki pages (link is in brown bar near top of screen) for previous HTC phones (Diamond, Kaiser, polaris, etc.), as there are quite a few "Upgrading Guides for Beginners" that explain what Hard SPL and all of the other confusing stuff in these posts means. Here is an example for the Diamond: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211
Anyway, I hope this was at least somewhat helpful and I hope you stay interested and start flashing when Hard SPL and some cooked ROMs become available.
Good luck!
I am so glad someone asked this.

Sk806 - Thank you very much for your detailed explanation!
Glad you posted otherwise I might have been trying to find out how to flash/upgrade my ROM only to find out this is not possible yet!
