Got my ignito the other day and realised yesterday that I haven't received any texts. The girlfriend also asked why I hadn't replied to her messages, and when I tried to send a message it comes up with:
Your text cannot be sent, check service center address in settings

Have looked through the settings and cannot find anywhere where to input the service centre number for O2. Also tried t O2 and O2 service settings programs in the program list, and they have problems connecting to retrieve any settings. Also on the O2 customer forum other people don't seem to have this problem.
Also have called customer services and even they are a bit unaware and wern't even in the know that this phone had been released. The data service guy over there hasn't even got any settings to push to the phone and has gone off to look for some.
Any ideas ?
Edit: The technical guy talked me through going into strat->settings and the phone area, then clicking on services and the 'voice mail and text messages' then retriving the settings to get to the message centre number. But when i do this the error thrown up says:
Cannot read settings from the network, try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again.

Tried taking out battery and a hard eset and nothing has helped. The only thin I have done to the phone is update to HARD-SPL but have not flashed a custom ROM yet. Could this be the problem at all, as I didn't test the SMS before updating this ?

Might not help but have you tried removing sim and replacing?

Ye the customer service guy got me to do that, and reset, but still the same. Just tried it again and still nothing. Will try my friends SIM card in the ignito to make sure it isn't my old SIM card.
Just managed to send an MMS to someone on the desk next to me at work, so just seems like MMS. Fiddling with different settings in the MMS, like gateway number ports etc, and MMS still works with a number of possible settings but no SMS.
Really hope I didn't screw it up with the HARD SPL, but will try other versions of that tonight.
Cleaned the SIM and nothing, plus a big thing I CAN RECEIVE TEXTS, but still can't send them. But in the phone settings area I can connect to the network for all the other options like call barring, caller ID, call forwarding, and call waiting, just not the voicemail and SMS option.
Lol comedy of errors.
start>settings>connections>advanced network
SMS Tab
there will be 4 possible settings here.
I sugest you try each of them, with a powercycle between each attempt just for good measure.
I had this on T-Mobile - the Sim didn't input the settings on install.
Go to phone > menu > options > services > voice and text settings and click get settings, you can try to input the service centre if it isn't there or wrong.
Cheers for that boys but still no luck. Tried all the GSM GPRS settings in the SMS tab and still the same.
ericson68, tried that lots the day I realised i was having text problems, plus the guy on the phone from O2 got me to try that, but as soon as i click on the SMS/voicemail settings tab it rejects it and says unable to contact. All other tabs on there can be conected to, like call baring etc, just the texts one which is screwed.
O2 have offered to give me a new one when a courier comes to collect the old one. only problem is my billing address is my parents house where the box is, so have to send the phone back to them tomorrow through our royal fail post system. Special delivery time I think.
Could the hard SPL upgrade have affected this in anyway, Im still running the ROM that came with it though ?
Just out of interest if you do a hard reset and then insert the sim do you get a notification asking to set up o2, or is your phone o2 branded?

The phone is O2 branded and has O2 software on it as well.
I have just hard reset it without the SIM card in and it installs some O2 things going through the progress bar, and also brings up a page to do with O2 GPRS settings and automatically configuring it.
another try

I have a swedish phone so I am guessing the English meny names.
Maybe you can try this.
Go into settings, select phone, select services, tap "voicemail and sms", tap "get settings from network" and see what happens. You should receive the sms servicec enter number.
Kindest Regards

Hey stefan. Thanks but have tried that, and that is where the problem is. The SMS service settings are in there but when I click 'get settings' it says:
'Cannot read settings from network, try again later'....

Is it possible to type in the number and tap ok. That should initiate the phone/network with the message center number..
If there is a number there, what number is it?

Change the SIM card
Hi,
if you search the forum you will see that several people have the same problem, including myself...
Anyways, only solution (so far) is to change the SIM card. So just change your SIM card with your provider and it should work (this is probably free or really cheap anyways, you keep the same number etc.).
I have an unlocked Diamond and the same problem. Only my SIM card with Telenor provider does not work. Other Telenor cards work and also cards from different provider work.
So just change the SIM card and it should work (some people already tried it and it worked, I am too lazy to go to the store, but I will do it soon. until then I have another SIM card (different number) which works fine)
Cheers!
was this number ported to o2, or was it a new contract?
i had the same problem in the first 24 hours, worked fine after that.
Hey
Sorry didn't reply. Just after my last post I tried a friends SIM card at work and it worked fine, so must be my old sim card (5 yrs). My contract was an upgrade and have been with O2 for those 5 yrs.
New card on way to me now, thanks for all the help !
Custom ROM time this weekend
hello, a bad luck today... someone stole my phone. what can i do?
i have no myphone service installed,
i have locked my SIM card
i told that to the police, they will look for it through IMEI.
is it possible to change IMEI (i hope no)? i have flashed my phone with energy rom. is the IMEI the same?
thanks for every answer, lets fight against thieves!
In the UK service provides (i.e. Orange, T Mobile) will block/blacklist your IMEI once reported stolen, so unless they are experienced they probably won't know how to change the IMEI, it can be done but its highly illegal.
Had my phone stolen a few months ago, it's a pain but you do learn from the experience & backup data/PIM more regulary & review security issues more vigantly.
Your IMEI will be unchanged as flashing a ROM will not change this.
If you had email accounts setup you should change passwords so they can not access your accounts via the phone.
You have done all you can do really, chances are slim on recovery.
Good luck & I hope you have a backup PIM data ect or a full image backup making it easy to setup a new device & move on from this event.
i have my phone backed up. that is the good thing. the good thing is also that IMEI is hard to change. in the moment when the thief will insert the SIM, the police will be informed. the bad thing is, that the thief is looking for charger probably...

I suggest on your next phone installing either 'Where Is My Phone', or 'Don't Steal My Phone', as these programs will initiate a hard reset on your device with a simple SMS code and will also send you the GPS coordinates through SMS.
Mmm sms to trigger reset is bloody useless as in most cases they will turn device off & throw sim away faster than you can borrow a phone and send the message. sending GPS data could be useful.

Not in my case.
Remember, thieves aren't that smart.
they are quite smart here in Bangkok, my phone was off in less than 10 minutes after taken, My network monitored number & it was never connected/used & IMEI has not been picked up on any networks yet.
Here they all get resold via phone shops who give them a makeover cosmetically & digitally, IMEI mods are easily done here too.
They are smarter than you think, best defence is making sure you have password function active & any personal data encrypted plus software as mentioned in thread #5
Personally I would favour a battery modded with semtex & a det triggered via sms :-D
Yes, yours is a different culture.
I still say thieves are stupid by default... but its a pointless conversation
Backuping Phone data is good custom for everyone, especially the business men who have many customers.
Hi all!
I am in a deep trouble.... I have an unlocked t-mobile google g1 that I am currently using in Pakistan. till yesterday it was working fine but when I restored it to factory settings I had to login using my gmail account...
I entered my username and password but it said that "There is a problem communicating with the google servers"
I have searched a lot but only found that you need a data plan....! I don't know what kind of data plan people are talking about! I don't either have a t-mobile sim....
My questions are:
1. What kind of data plan is needed for login? if its the normal internet that we can connect having the internet settings then I do have a data plan but I dont actually have the "internet settings" for login.....! please guide me people
2. is there any way to get root access without getting to the home screen? (I mean on the screen where it asks for the login)
3. EARLIER I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I TRIED TO DOWNGRADE TO RC29 but I went to the market, the phone repairer said that he will need to unlock the phone again for which he took heavy money. But I think actually he bluffed me. I dont think I needed to unlock it again. I think he just logged in through some way (I dont know)
Please guy help me pleaseeee
hey i'm from Pakistan too
There is no prob wid ur phone actually the shopkeeper really bluffed u , u might not wanna do that again ...
Data plan is the gprs settings for your network provider ,
tell me what Sim are u on and i'll give u the settings
When the phone boots up and asks u to login in gmail just press menu and it will show wireless settings enter them and u'll be having options of access points name enter in and there u have to put the settings and then login
Don't worry its very much simple and if u have any other probs ask me , i'm always available
Oh sauud bhai thanks alot!! You saved my Rs.500! beleive me I was so fed up. I don't know why the hell I didnt try that menu key
Although I tried all other keys but, unluckily, not the menu one and yeah you are true, the shopkeeper bluffed me very badly *faltu me 500 charge kiye or ooper se 3 ghantay ka time dia k dobara unlock krna paray ga* :/
its ok brother anytime
now go ahead and njoy CyanogenMod the best of all
Hello guys.
So as the title says i have a problem with my samsung galaxy s. It works to SMS and call, but i can't check my email or even go on the internet. I have already checked the settings for internet as my operative tells me to have. So i buyed the phone from a random guy and it worked for the last 1 week but now sudden it is like this. My brother tells me that it could have something with the imei-number. He says that the guy probably fooled me and have register the imei number as blacklisted. But then i wonder why can i still SMS and call?
So my question is :
What could be wrong cant i go on the internet and check my email while i can SMS and call?
What can i do if the guy fooled me? Is it any way to solve the imei-number problem if the satilite have blacklisted it?
Please i really need help with this i feel really fooled
Any help is appreciated and sorry for my bad english.
Kind Regards
Arrish
are you sure your internet and email settings are correct?
You might need to re input/input the APN's for your service provider. Go Settings>Wireless and Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names and press menu to add an APN. If there are no APN's there already then it's the problem and if there are some there they may be wrong. You'll have to google the settings for your provider. Sorry if I got some of the menu names wrong
Thanks for the answer guys.
I have re-inputed the APN for my provider and i have checked my settings and it still don't work.
Kind Regards
Now i discovered another problem. When i choose GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) i cant call or SMS either. But with GSM only it works. I dont understand what the problem is. 3G doesn't work either.
What rom is on your phone?
Go to Settings>About phone and tell us the Build number.
Have you factory reset the phone since you've purchased it?
Thanks for the answer.
The build number: Darky's v9.5.XWJS8
and no i havent factory reset it.
Can someone help me please?
Please could anyone help me? I cant even SMS , Call or go on the internet. I think the guy who sold it to me has blocked it. To get money from his insuarance. If its blocked like satilite blocked or something is it possible to hack it and open it?
Kind regards.
EDIT: check your IMEI number (*#06#) matches the number on the box or the phone (under the battery)
ok ok well before we start accusing this 'guy' of fooling you, lets get you back to stock.
you are running a custom rom which could be causing these issues.
get yourself a firmware, with all 3 files, add a 512 pit, tick the re-partition box and let the phone do its thing.
then report back
Friend had exactly the same problem with their new SGS II. Factory reset sorted it out immediately.
Good luck with it
are you using the right modem for your region?? I was using one that worked in my home town but went to another city an hour away and my phoned died....apparently they use different tower frequencies in different locations where i'm from. Just make sure your using the right modem for your location.
So i checked the imei number on the phone and it matched the number under the battery. But i dont understand this " get yourself a firmware, with all 3 files, add a 512 pit, tick the re-partition box and let the phone do its thing. " I dont understand what you mean sorry , could you explain better thanks.
I will try to factory reset it now.
help please i cant do anythang

does not matter, it will install as long as you had google account sync on it, and it will auto ON GPS by itself , and cannot be shut off, as no settings menu in it., read instructions, as you can send locate sms to give you repeated details of location
WHat about INTERNET DATA connection..???

Efs is encoded and encrypted as such only samsung will be able to guide you on this. Normally professional thieves would not be stealing it to use but to sell to a middleman who would ensure its shipped and sold in another state after altering its ROM etc. Hence they might not even switch it ON to avoid being detected, So lets hope that whosoever stole yours is an amateur and hopes to use or play with it
The only thing certain in life is death, everything else is hope, so even if you had the IMEI, the networks will only block the connection and Police, will not be doing anything ( unless they are getting something ). I have relations living in India, so I know and its the same here in the Philippines and many parts of this world.
Just hope Plan B works as Plan A, is never lose sight of your phone.
I feel, even an amateur will do Factory-Reset before using it.
So, I lost all hopes now..!!
