Hope you guys can help me out. I disassembled my Cingular 8125 to try and improve the earpiece speaker. I put the device back together and turned it on and it sticks on the boot screen.
When I try to do a hard reset, I get to the point where I have to press send (green button), but then displays the following for a second and then goes back and freezes on the boot loader screen:
format FAT partition
format is complete
I've read some stuff about being able to recover from this using the SD card, but I'm not sure how to do it. If it is possible to recover from SD card, can someone please upload the appropriate files to the ftp site?
Please HELP!!! My ROM versions are below:
IPL: 2.16
SPL: 2.16
GSM: 02.07.10
OS: 2.16.9.1
Thanks!!!
Update:
I'm able to get to the mutli-colored screen by holding the Camera Button prior to starting the Wizard back on. I plug in my USB to my computer, but my computer says "USB Device Not Recognized". How can I get a new ROM on to my device? I tried running the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from a ROM, but it obviously wouldn't work because my computer doesn't see my phone. Please help!!
Thanks!!
Update #2:
When connected to the computer, I got to device manager and see an unknown device under USB. I uninstall the device and do a scan for hardware changes. This finds the phone, but it still shows up as an unknown device. It does say that device is ready to use, but when i try to run the ROM update utility, it still cannot find my phone.
Do I need special USB drivers for the phone to be recognized?
Please guys, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!
you shouldnt need any special driver for your computer to connect to Wizard.
did you install ActiveSync at all ? perhaps its using the driver from that installation....
What OS are you using ?
Yes, I've previously installed ActiveSync 4.1. I am using Windows XP. Would it help to try to uninstall/reinstall ActiveSync? I may give that a try. Will keep you posted. Any other suggestions?
EDIT:
Just tried to uninstall/reinstall ActiveSync and it still says USB device not recognized
it looks like a dead ROM, hope it has nothing to do with the hardware.
Anyway, you try looking through this forum, there are some people who've got stuck on the boot screen, and did a flash (via the bootloader screen, e.g. the multi colour one) on the ROM and seems to fix the problem. Probably you want to put this option last. Mean while, wait for others to repsond, and you may well start looking on how to flash the ROM from bootloader screen.

Thanks for responding. I'm ok with having to reflash, but the problem is that my computer doesn't seem to recognize my device when i'm at the multi color screen.
Isn't there a backup battery in these devices? I had my Wizard disassembled for 4 hours. I guess the backup battery could have died during this span, but even if it did, what implications would that have?
You still have hope
Get it to the bootloader screen. Connect via USB to your PC (make sure you have active sycn installed) and run an RUU to replace your ROM. I had to do this after trying to downgrade to the original Cingular ROM on my 8125. Scared the S*!T out of me when it hung on the Splash screen and wouldn't load. I thought it was toast but using the Bootloader and an RUU it put it back to normal again.
It won't look like the PC is recognizing the device but it will as long as its in Bootloader.
Let us know if you get it fixed.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that when I plug the device into my computer, I get a USB device not recognized error. I try to proceed with ROMUpdateUtility.exe anyways, and get this error:
"The update utility cannot connect to your PDA phone..."
Seems like updating via USB is not going to work for me. Can I write a backup to the SD card from the PC, put the SD card in the phone, and then boot from there? I've read some posts along these lines, but detailed steps would be very helpful. THANKS!!!
You need an SD card dump image.
This is NOT a file in the sense of a file on the SD card. Its a RAW image. You need someone who has dumped their firmware in that fashion to send you the SD image.
You then write it onto the SD card using something like "psdwrite" (which will, by the way, DESTROY the filesystem on the SD card - don't have anything on there you care about!) and then insert it into the phone with the power off. Hold the CAMERA button and turn it on; when it asks if you want to restore the image, hit VOICE.
Note that for 1.x IPLs/SPLs the backlight will be OFF during this procedure, so you have to pay attention and/or have a good flashlight handy.

Genesis3,
Thanks for your wonderful insight. I really appreciate your help.
Now can someone help me with getting an SD image? What constitutes an image file? Is it simply the .nbf file? Do I just use psdwrite and copy the nbf file onto the card? Is there something on the FTP site I can use? My configuration as mentioned in the original post is:
IPL: 2.16
SPL: 2.16
GSM: 02.07.10
OS: 2.16.9.1
I had a similar problem and reflashing the rom using the usb is possible. Don't use a flasing utility, though.
Find a self contained rom upgrade from the FTP. As long as you see USB on the bottom left side of your screen, it should work. After that, reflash with whatever rom you want. Hope it works. Nothing worse than an the feeling you have holding an expensive paper waight.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what you mean by "self contained rom". In the past, I've used K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship.zip from the FTP site, and ran the ROMUpdateUtility.exe without any problem. Now, since I cannot make a connection to the computer via USB, I am unable to run ROMUpdateUtility.exe. Is there an alternative "self contained" file I can use that will work in spite of the unknown USB device message?
Thanks in advance...
try to DL this file: RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe. Its on the FTP. Follow this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
click on the FTP Root link, navigate here:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Qtek/ and download the file. Put the phone in bootloader, attach to PC (make sure the phone has USB shown in the bottom left corner, and run the file.
Ignore any references to ActiveSync or any connections period. Just run it all the way through the installation process. When all is done, you can upgrade, down grade, etc using the appropriate method (I use aWizard) Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I've tried the course of action that you've suggested, but i cannot get through the installation process because of inadequate connectivity between the phone and my PC. I see the USB in the bottom left hand corner, plug into the PC, and immediately see a USB Unknown device error. I ignore that and try to run the ROM anyways and it fails and I get an Update Error:
"The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB/cradle is connected..."
That's why I think I got to go the SD card route, so anyone with an image file that i can put on my SD card, I really could use the help!
It is NOT a NBF file.
The problem with the 8125 is that if you are somehow not CID unlocked the wrong SD image will actually hurt you more than it helps.
You need to find someone with a Cingular 8125 SD image - I have one for the T-Mobile MDA but not for the Cingular "as-shipped" ROM.

Genesis3,
Thanks for confirming it's not a NBF file. I had previously CID unlocked using awizard and then installed a newer IMATE ROM:
IPL: 2.16
SPL: 2.16
GSM: 02.07.10
OS: 2.16.9.1
I did not install the IMATE Extended ROM or Cingular customizations after upgrading to the IMATE ROM. Do I still need a Cingular 8125 SD image, since i've already upgraded my ROM, or do I now need an IMATE SD image to match my current configuration? Or does the type of image file really not matter?
Thanks in advance!
I really hate to beg, but I am desparately seeking an SD image file backup. I'm going out of town in a couple of days, and would love to have a working wizard for my trip.
Can any one of you kind souls please upload your SD image file backup to the FTP site? It really is my last ditch effort before having to send the phone back.
I truly appreciate all the help and all the responses I have received to date.
THANKS!!!

Hello,
I believe I have a real 'tough' scenario:
My BA (WM2003) was running normally till yesterday where it simply 'froze'. I tried restarting it, (soft and hard) and it kept stalling on the (IMate) splash screen and didn't proceed to WM. I left it to battery drain completely.
I came to work this morning, and literally tried everything:
Standard Upgrade using the Imate original exe (PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200). doesn't recognize the phone anymore.
Tried the MaUpgradeUT_noID with the nbf files (radio, ms and nk). In all cases the upgrade starts and gets interrupted in the middle with a 'weird' error and the BA display fades as the signal led goes RED (constant, no blink). I have to take the battery out, back in.
Tried the mtty set 14 0 / task 28 sequence with no result. (The info commands return a garbled sequence which makes me assume that my bootloader got corrupted).
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

Read in another post that you got no reply on this one.
Well it seems like nobody can come up with anything that would make more sense than what you have done.
My wording is when everyting else falis go back to the original rom and start from fresh.
If you can't flash an original rom in the ship.exe or the extract form you need to send it in.
Does your device react to hard reset ?? at least you should get a boot screen.
Have you tried Bootloader mode?
I know that this is a really stupid idea.. but have you tried putting it in bootloader mode, and then trying to upgrade? Or maybe throw a WM5 rom on there, and downgrade again! Worth a try until you send it in!
Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate the help.
I figured out that I had two distinctive problems:
1. The constant red led light, after a lot of research, it turned out that the battery was defective. Changing it solved the problem.
2. Now, I am able to flash the ROM (Tried it a couple times so far) with the orginal or another one. It flashes correctly, but only if I use the NoID flash program, else it will return a MODEL ID error. And when I reboot it, it stays stuch on the 'Imate' or the bootscreen and I don't get the WM to load (As if it freezes)...
3. I don't think I can upgrade to WM5 as I need to shrink the EXTROM size? Can this be done through some 'task' or other command in mtty for example?
Thanks for your suggestions.
Cheers,
Wadih.
I have an BA XDA2s, and was attempting to upgrade ROM to latest WM5 version. Got as far as going into bootloader mode, and running BAupgradeUT. Mid update the programe said it had lost connection to phone (pretty sure i didnt accidentally disconnect it). My xda is now stuck with a blank screen with nothing except v2.08 at the botttom, and either USB or Serial at the top (depending on weather on cradle or not). I tried running BAupgradeUT again - but it has a connection error before it even starts now.
During the update my computer said that it had detected new hardware, and started trying to install drivers for it, but got stuck when it couldnt find "wceusbsh.sys" file in my windows dir. (i forget which im afraid ...)
im perfectly happy to accept any solution - including ones that involve restoring the retail rom - i just want my phone back. can anyone help me, or am i royally screwed? thanks in advance...........
****...I fu**ed things up 2:S What to do now?
i think ive solved mine - if your having the same problem as me, i can give ya a hand... otherwise - im probably not the best person to talk to ......
well...tell me please, because i know what i did wrong...no extrom on my sd card...
right well - im pretty new at this, so bear with me
basically i eventually solved the problem by locating the file that it couldnt find, and when i had located that file, it had no problems communicating with the phone. so i ran the update again - and it worked fine...
afaik - the screen blank screen with v2.08 is just the normal screen while it waits for the rom to be uploaded.....
hth..... if not then its out of my leauge
ok..i'll try again:S
Hey there everyone, I am pretty new to this forum so I must apologize for throwing you all into the deep end. I recently purchased an o2 XDA mini S second hand from a guy on boards.ie here in Ireland. I got the phone and really liked it because it allowed me to get rid of my Dell Axim X3i and mp3 player and keep it all in one device.
After a little bit of more research I discovered that I could remove some of the bloatware from the o2 xda mini S by just hard resetting and choosing the basic option which I than did. Still not satisfied with the overall performance of the XDA I decided to try a rom upgrade. Not wanting to do a totall overhaul I decided to just do a radio upgrade first.
My device is sim unlocked, it was like that when I bought it. I used the latest wizard service tool to CID unlock the device before I even flashed the phone. I also used the wizard service tool to change the nk.nbf file within the o2 mini S radio update into 96000000-GSM.nb. I then used this file to write to the GSM radio code (Bdk 1) according to the wizard service tool in the hopes that it would upgrade my radio version.
Well when I restarted, nothing of the sort happened, on the boot screen I noticed I was now missing my GSM version and when the phone finally got into windows mobile, it did not pick up any signal even though beforehand it could. The phone also became super slow to the point where it was unusable.
I have gone into bootloader mode subsequently after reading on this forum and tried to reflash with a number of updates with active sync disabled and nothing else running with the phone connected via usb to the pc. None of the updates would even pick up the phone or allow me to flash it.
My phone is pretty much screwed, I have a spare so it is not that big of an issue but I would like to make this usable again if at all possible. So my question is how do I flash a rom while the phone is in bootloader mode?
P.S I forgot to include the Current boot screen details:
IPL - 1.05
SPL - 1.05
OS - 1.5.4.2
Hi,
You can use the Wizard Love Rom from here http://rapidshare.com/files/17792050/Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2.rar
Hey there, thanks for the advice, I did download that ROM but like I said before, none of the roms manage to flash my XDA because they all cannot seem to connect to it. Activesync does not even pick it up in windows mode, and even when I have it connected in bootloader mode via usb and I double click on the love rom, it goes through the motions but never managed to "verify the information with the pda"
Try a stock Tmobile ROM but not from bootloader. Also, I would check the activesync app on the device. Make sure it's set to use USB as the default connection method.
A few other steps to try...
Uninstall ActiveSync and install an older version. If still no go, try a newer version.
Try a different USB cable and/or USB port.
Try a different computer with XP, not Vista.
Try flashing it without the SIM card or any memory cards.
If all else fails, you can try the SD card flashing method. There are instructions in the Wiki on how to do it, but always a stock ROM.
Try this one... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311027
Updated IPL/SPL and radio 2.69
Hey Devis, I think I have come one step closer, I tried all the suggestions that you made. Except well now my phone will not even go into the operating system when I switch it on. It will boot and the version numbers show but then it just resets itself.
I tried a different usb cable and I am not using vista, tried a different pc and the same result. The one place I did have some marginal success was the sd card method.
Basically what happened is that It backed up the OS from my phone and then reloaded it, not exactly what I wanted since the OS and rom are both screwed on the phone so my question at this point is, is there anyway using the SD card method to load one of the stock roms onto my phone?
I searched around the net and found the opposite to the "r2sd all" function, would be the "s2d" function, would that allow me to flash the phone with a stock rom?
Thanks for your time, I am going to call it a night here in ireland and head to bed.
Ok, if the phone resets then you probbably have a dead/dying battery. Charge it for about an hour or so using the wall charger, not the USB cable. Try to restart it and see if you can get in the OS. I was looking in the SD card method thread and some guy was successful at restoring the image from the SD even though his OS had died. He then had a fully functional phone.
The other thing to do would be to get the image file from someone that has a living and breathing wizard, preferably one with a stock ROM. Since this method is the equivalent of making an image of a PC using Ghost, the restoration of such an image to your Wizard should work just fine.
Just make sure that the other Wizard is SIM and CID unlocked. Or just go buy a Wizard from the store, unlock SIM and CID, copy the image on the SD and flash your device. Or... since u've got a new Wizard in your hands, just take the freaking thing appart and swap the guts return the store bought wizard to the store saying that the thing just doesnt freaking work!
As for the AT commands... it is possible that s2d would workfor you, it doesn't work in my wizard. from what i have been reading it appears that the bootloader is password protected and that password is randomly generated. I haven't played long enough with it to figure out how to get the password.
It looks like you've got some "trial and error" processes ahead of you. There is a wealth of info on bootloader AT commands on Wiki, nothing for the Wizard though. But something may work... not sure.
I could try to get you a ROM dump from my Wizard but I already am on SPL/IPL 3.08 and running WM6. the SPL/IPL version alone wouldn't allow you to restore from my backup.
Hey Devis, thanks for your time, just woke up here, will work some more on the phone today and let you know what is going on
Hey Devis, I did not even get a chance to fiddle around with the phone today, from being able to switch on less than 24 hours ago, it does not even want to switch on now so I am going to officially declared it a brick and move on. Will see if anyone can fix it for me, spent way too much time already when I should be working on my dissertation, thanks alot anyway
Sorry to hear that...
I have bricked one phone myself in the past... my old Pana GD87 and I absolutely loved that phone. I know how you feel.
Good luck with your dissertation.
oh damn. i failed to follow the steps for rom flashing (didn't delete the partnership) and hurt my poor phone. it works just fine. turns on makes calls etc, but when plugged in to the usb cable the pc pops up a little message that say " usb device not recognized" and it tells me that it's malfunctioning. it pops up in the device manager as unknown device with no drivers. i hard reset, entered bootloader, and checked the wiki and saw no help that didn't require me to connect the device to the pc which i can't do. i do have an old tool for my wallaby (first htc) that used to be able to copy a rom to an sd so you could flash it from the card din the bootloader, but alas, it only works for wallaby roms.
so is there an analog to this that will work with the wizard or is there a tool i can import via .cab file to restore the drivers to the wizard? i would love to get this fixed before my fiance finds out cause i was just bragging about how i had all this totally licked
ok so it seems all i need, i hope, is a back up rom image that i can flash from my sd card
any help?
ok, so anyone fallowing the story arch here, prepare for the surprise conclusion. in an m knight shamalayn type twist all of my assumptions were wrong, and the problem was totally resolved by reinstalling activesynch. apparently i hashed the drivers on the pc. thank you for joining me on this ridiculous stream of conscious little crisis.
