WING E-mail Delays - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

Is anyone else having really long E-mail Delays?? I am using active sync and windows llive and E-mails take 5 minutes to come up, sometimes longer, I had an MDA with no problems. All the settings are setup just fine, I even installed overclock, which by the way is SWEET!! and nothing.

what overclock program are you using?

Im using omapclock_and_omapclockplusv0.0.4.cab

try using sktools and delete a task in windows startup called i believe delaypush...it may not be that exactly but you'll see what i am talking about when in the program

I tried sktools, but it's only a demo, is there a free version I could use??

Hi, There is plenty in the Alpine sections about upgrading to the various ROM sections, just have a look or search. You will find the files here, ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Alpine/
You can see what PUG ROM version I use, which I have found to be very good.
Sometime ago I uploaded all the cab files for your Carrier Settings, just copy cab to XDA IIi and tap to run, after the cab has installed the settings, it will delete itself, so make sure you keep a copy for future use.

The latest PUG upgrade is here, ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Alpine/O2_Roms__Camera_Fixed_Pug
There are 2 files here, one has all the unneccessary 02 software outstripped and the other with all the 02 software included.
Once downloaded, extract to a folder on your desktop (or anywhere on your PC). Make sure your PDA is connected via the cradle and Activesync. Goto the folder you have extracted the files to on your PC, click to run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, just click OK, then you should see a message saying it is checking your Device, your devices screen should go blank (Although you will see some dark text including the word Serial on your PDA)
You should then get a screen saying what ROM version you have and the New version, press ok then a screen will pop up saying checking device, the common thing to happen here is it will stop in this screen, what 5 mins if it doesn't change then don't touch your PDA, CTRL-Alt-DEL on your PC keyboard to bring up Task Manager, select the Process Tab and look for the file name MaUpgradeUt_noID, highlight it with one click and then press End Process button, go back to the folder and run MaUpgradeUt_noID again follow the screen instructions again and then it will update this time, indicated by a install bar screen, it will take about 20mins to complete.
Once updated remove your PDA from its cradle and hold the Power Button down and at the same time press the softreset hole with your Stylus, this will Hard Reset (Factory Settings) your device, depending on the version you have installed follow instructions on the PDA, it will install some more files which take 5 to 10 mins to install. Thats it you device is now updated.
For your carrier settings goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26463, there you will find the CAB files for your Phone Carrier (remember there is a file for PAYT and Contract for each Carrier, download the correct one for you), download the correct one for you and copy to your PDA, tap to run and your correct MMS/GPRS/WAP settings are then installed. Very Happy
**Please Note before you update your PDA. Please copy anything you want to keep on your PDA to your PC, don't worry about SD storage or the other Perminent Storage area as the update leaves these untouched. If you want to save your Contacts and or your Appointments and Tasks then goto Settings on your PDA select second Tab and then select Perminent Save, tick your selection and tap OK, then once you have carried out the update go back to Perminant Save and tick boxes you want restored and then tap OK, this function will dynamically keep your backup upto date, so you can use this anytime.
Phew, hope this helps.
I have tried all teh CAB files, and all the individual settings, to get full GPRS working on my O2 PAYT SIM.
After 2 emails to o2's technical department (which at least they answered within 24 hours) I was assured that the reason I couldnt connect is the APN whould be set to mobile.o2.co.uk - but that ONLY worked on contract plans.
They categorically stated that PAYT O2 ONLY features WAP GPRS, i.e. those small WAP-sites suited to mobile phones, and not the 'full deal' (ie web browsing, irc, MSN MEssenger etc)
...so, after a LONG time with O2 PAYT, I am now a Vodafone customer with a Vodafone PAYT SIM!
I can surf the web, join my irc channels, use MSN Messenger, the works, and they emailled me the correct settings the very same day I emailled them to ask for them too.
Joe Pinball
now a happy Vodafone GPRS internet user!
Hi,
just got an 2nd hand xda IIi earlier on today and seem somewhat shafted as i only have macs and no pcs, been looking arround for the last few hours to find some form of sync software which doesnt cost
can anyone tell me how to update the rom from a mac?
cheers
Ok,
so im guessing from spending hours searching the forums here last night unless im willing to buy pocketmac or missing sync there is nothing.
think i will use a virtual pc *sigh*
roll on the x86 mac hardware.
Mac OS is based on BSD. I believe there are scripts floating around here in perl that any decent *nix flavour should run. Perhaps some of these might be able to help you.
if you can run a Virtual PC with access to USB ports on the Mac, I'd reckon that would be the easiest (!) approach to adding Activesync for syncing files etc & installing any applications, as all of the pocket PC apps' installers are also windows-based.
Joe
had a long look for perl stuff and didnt find much so got virtual pc installed now. just got pugs rom on the xda and the speed has incresed (it doesn't feel as slugish anymore) wifi signal is a lot better, but i still seem to have BT issues, wonder if thats something to do with my headset though.. sounds like bad reception sometimes even though the phone is only in my coat pocket.

GoodLink on WM6?

When I try to connect to the Goodlink server (corp email) with WM6, it says that my device is not supported at this time.
Do you guys know if Good Link is supported on WM6? If so, is there a special installer somewhere that is not on the Good Link website? If there is not, is there something I can do to make Good Link think it is on a WM5 OS?
Thanks for any help !!!
Does anyone have any more info on this issue?
We are experiencing some issues with WM6 and getting GoodLink on it.
One person was able to get GoogLink to work by doing a restore using a 3rd party app. But new installations of Good do not allow it to be installed because it does not recognize the handheld (OS, i'm sure).
Anyone know if there is a workaround? Registry tweak? Or just wait for a new version of Good to be released by Motorola-Good that supports WM6?
BTW, although its the same issue, were talking about WM6 on the HERMES device.
"One person was able to get GoodLink to work by doing a restore using a 3rd party app. But new installations of Good do not allow it to be installed because it does not recognize the handheld (OS, i'm sure)."
Hold on, how did this person do that? And we are talking about on WM6, right? Can you direct me to the thread or give me directions, please?
Yes, this is on WM6 and HTC HERMES, like I said in my post. The BACKUP was done while the phone still had WM5 and the RESTORE was done while the phone had WM6.
As far as what app was used, I do not know, I believe it was some 3rd party app that backs up and restores your apps/data, look around in the forums.
I tried the 'dirty fix'. Wow, when they said dirty, they meant it !!! the phone crashes every other second and you get error messages and freezes with every button you hit. I'll remember your user name and will pm you if I ever find a fix or see goodlink for wm6. Please do the same
Motorola-Good released version 4.9.3 (which according to an email from a Good rep, is supposed to support WM6)
I downloaded it but am still having trouble getting it to install on WM6.
I'm posting the link to Good 4.9.3 in case anyone would like to see if they can figure it out.
http://customerportal.good.com/techSupport.php?id=70
Use the last download button on the page, the SD installation version. The others are for the server.
did I miss something? i dont see where it says it supports wm6.
Edit: okay, I read slow. Never mind...a rep said this via email. I'll try it again
Same here on 8525 Cingular, I tried the GetGoodLinkPPC2005.cab & GLPackage2005.cab with no luck, when it does the Over the air setup it comes up with the error that its not compatible with the OS
UPDATE: For those that want to upgrade to WM6 and need to run GoodLink YOU MUST FIRST DO A GoodLink Backup from the Good Options on WM5!!, do it on the memory card and after you upgrade to WM6 you will find a file on the root of the card to restore GoodLink, what i do is connect to my wifi at home first then i do the update and IT WORKS I now have WM6 and GoodLink Good Mobile Messaging v4.9.2.30_EN on my 8525

I can confirm that this does indeed work with my 8525. However, I am experiencing delays in receiving emails on wm6. Sometimes they take 1 minute or less to arrive, other times they can take several minutes. This is a huge problem considering my organization pays to have no-latency email.
Uh oh... I think I found a deal breaker. I'm not receiving ANY mails, or seeing old mails, in subdirs.

I was having delays on WM5 so this is no news to me, not all the time but i did notice it, cant say the same for WM6 yet, overall it runs great, and much faster.
I'm curious what others have to say. Goodlink was so sluggish that I actually had to revert to WM5. I wasn't receiving mails that were automatically pushed to subdirs by Exchange rules and emails that did come in were coming in extremely sporadically.
It runs 100% on mine, no lag or delays here, it seems faster then on WM5 and this might be due to the fact that the OS is so much faster....
Goodlink working with WM6 & Wizard 8125
I did a backup in WM5 and did a restore after WM6 ROM Update. It works like a charm. My only problem now is that it did not make Goodlink contacts as the default one so I'm not getting any contacts in the phone dialer. I think I'm still using the v4.8.1.14_EN.
Just a quick note from a Hermes/8525 user ... Goodlink is working fine on all of the cooked WM6 Roms that are floating around for that device ... most of us first (in WM5) did a goodlink backup to the SD card, then we were able to "restore from backup" once WM6 was installed, without a problem. Known isssues at the moment once you have it up and running are:
No full integration with Dialer (the contacts button now reverts to outlook contacts, not goodlink contacts)
Auto Complete feature in WM6 does not work correctly within Goodlink Apps
Otherwise, seems to be working fine ... and just as fast as before (I still get my goodlink emails faster than I get them on my desktop computer in my office)
Good on WM6
Good version 4.9.3.34 and above will run on most WM6 devices. However, only your administrator can push this out to you via the Good Management Console (you can't control what version you get) so you will need to persuade whoever runs your Good server to push the very latest version. It doesn't matter what OTASetup file you get, it is always the Good server that decides what client build you get.
If you are getting the 'Device not supported' message then chances are your Good Admin is _not_ pushing the latest 4.9.3.34 or above version to your device. If you are getting a different message about the serial number, IMSI, etc. then it may be your device will just not run it.
--
For Good Admins:
In order to push the latest client you can simply change the version of the client you are deploying by:
1. Opening the Management Console
2. Clicking on the User Groups folder (in the left hand pane)
3. Right clicking on the ‘All Users’ group (for example)
4. Choosing ‘Manage Group’ from the drop down.
5. Clicking on the ‘Edit Group Software…’ button
6. Selecting ‘Windows Mobile 5.0 PocketPC’ in the top dropdown
7. Choose the latest version of the client available in the middle window (you may need to scroll up)
8. Select ‘Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone’ in the top drop-down
9. Repeat step 7
Hope this helps!
Kitt.

This is almost certainly an issue on the server side, not the device. You should speak to your Good Admin and check what the link is like between the Good Server and the Exchange Server.
Also make sure that if they have any software running in the background on the Good Server such as antivirus or backup that it excludes the 'Cache' and 'Logs' Good directories.
(Or get him to phone Good Support for a health check on the server ).
Thanks,
Kitt.
Okay, I think I got this to work without going through your admin... For those of you that didn't think to do a backup before upgrading and do not want to upgrade again, follow these steps:
1: Download http://customerportal.good.com/download/sdcard_4_9_3.exe
2: Extract.
3: Copy GetGoodLinkPPC2005.cab and GLPackage2005.cab from PPC_WM5.0/EN folder to your phone.
4: Run GetGoodLinkPPC2005.cab. This will take you through the standard OTA setup that you are used to.
5: Enter your e-mail and PIN as normal. Once it restarts, you should get the "Launcher executable was not found -8" error.
6: Run GLPackage2005.cab, ignore any errors.
7: Open File Explorer.
8: Go to \Program Files\GoodLink.
9: Run GoodApp (It's a 4.75 meg executable). This will create a new subfolder called GoodLink.
10: Now run GLLauncher from \Program Files\GoodLink.
You may have to hit OK a few times on an error that says "Could not autolaunch Goodlink", but with any luck this will work for you. It did work for me. The only reason I'm not guaranteeing the 10 steps above is because I clicked on things like a crazy person for about 10 minutes before I got it to work. However, the logic is sound. Basically, you're letting OTA push whatever your company specifies then you're installing the new, WM6 compatible version over it.
Hope this helps! It's working perfectly for me!!!

Running multiple midlets?

Hello,
I just got an AT&T Tilt. I want to be able to run Opera Mini and the Java GMail app at the same time, without having to close one first. I have not found a way to do this. Whenever one is running, if I try to run Java again, it just goes right to the running program.
I also followed the instructions at: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html
This created shortcuts to both GMail and Opera Mini. However, if I run OperaMini, then run the shortcut to GMail, it just activates the already running Opera.... same effect as selecting "Java" from the start menu with one already running.
Has anyone figured out a way to run more than one midlet at a time with the Tilt?
On my 8125 (Wizard?) I was able to run multiple midlets, which I believe was the Intent version of Java.
Thanks for any help!
Good question ! I was also wondering about that.
Thanks for the link that helped me create shortcuts, the tckmax trick isn't working for me though, I still get asked about permissions on the Kaiser? Ah I see that "flexte" pointed it out over there already, must be some extra security on our little Kaiser then!

Accessing Add/Remove appz without going to settings (WM Settings screen is crashing)

How would I go through with accessing to remove MS Voice Command from the kaiser without opening the main settings window. I installed a few applications (i.e., TouchFlo 2, Youtube, HTC Audio Manager, PTTfix and MS Voice Command 1.6) on my friends Kaiser running WM6.1. All of these programs work fine on mine (WM 6.0), but now on his the phone reboots everytime you click on settings int he start menu. The only thing I can guess thats causing it is MS Voice Command since it creates an Icon in the Settings window.
I need to either A) find a way to manually remove the icon maybe...if that could work, or B) manually find a way to uninstall voice command.
I am hoping I can fix it without him having to do a hard reset on the phone losing all his stuff.
Thanks.

You can uninstall software with SKTools. Download a trial version from Handango and try it. If you like it, buy it! My guess is you will probably have to do a hard reset anyway to clean up that mess.
Ill do that. I'll use SKtools on his phone to remove MS Voice Command next week.
Has anyone else had this problem? It would be great for him to have Voice Command. He's been drooling over the feature on mine so long. Now that he finally has a kaiser, he can't use it because it doesn't want to work on his. No fun.
Another easy way would be to use Activesync Add/Remove Programs feature on a connected computer
I don't think he has access to a computer but I will keep that one in mind. We hadn't even had a chance to use the sktools option yet since he got sick so I haven't seen him around in a bit.
I really wish the program would have worked :/ I might try reinstalling it again ontop of itself....could do the trick. Maybe the program corrupted itself the first time some how.

This is, this is 1.6 and there is nothing newer
You could also simply create a shortcut/link that goes directly to the Add/Remove Programs settings screen.
Try putting this code in a .lnk file:
Code:
Settings>System>Remove Programs = 21#ctlpnl cplmain.cp,10
It will allow you to bypass the main Settings screen that crashes.

htc task manager kills programs

i know there are threads related to this already. and i have searched high and low but nothing has worked for me.
i am currently using this rom - 6.1 WWE ROM shifu V08 M2D|RAM 101|LZX|D3D|Full
its great and works nice but seems to have the same problem with the task manager killing programs.
i have tried the registry tweak and advanced config tool to disable the autokill function and to try and also make it only free memory when there is 1mb left. but it still does it regardless.
if the htc task manager shows 50-60% used memory, and i run a buncha programs like, skype, ie, calc, google maps, etc. it'll show up as approx 70-80% usage, but still kills old programs not in current view!
this is driving me nuts. cus it feels like i have 30% more usage left in my device's ram but that either windows or the htc task manager wont ever let me use...
biggest issue with this is that manila will "sometimes" also be closed. or when switching between programs like tomtom and contacts or calendar. i wanna get info from one program and then go back into another program to paste it or type it, by the time i get there its closed! annoying crap lol
