It's so terrible

I want to update my Alpine, but no wm5 rom

Apologies...
to all who have replied, and indeed those who are bored reading this Q. I did search on wiki and found some slightly confusing responses which led to me asking the Q. part of my confusion is that devices which are essentially identical are known under multiple brand/variants.
Please accept my sincere apologies.

Newb wanting to learn

Ok I have searched hi and low though these forums to try and learn how to upgrade or change roms through verious methods. Either the search button sucks or there is no info on how to do upgrades. I think that if there is a write up on how to upgrade it should be stickied.
The only method I found was the one in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14912&highlight=temp thread by ohmlogic
Try here:

So are you saying that Himalaya and Blueangel are upgraded pretty much the same way ??
isn't that what i answered you 7 hours ago?

Tomtom Nav 5 prob with loadin on qtek 9100

Hi
Brand new QTEK9100 and trying to load tomtom5 - inserting the mini sd programme boots up and gives initial install screen for a second or so then disapears - nothing else happens - what am i doing wrong ?
thanks
Search the forum, there are (already far too) many topics about TT5 on the Wizard.
Frenchie, It's sad that people like Molski, who started on this forum with same problems as you have and I had, can answer in this "clever" way.
I finally got my Qtek running with TT5.
It would be good to upgrade your Wizard to a aku 2.+. Use one of the ROMs on the ftp, first unlock your SIM using Awizard (also available on the xda ftp).
Go to the TOMTOM site and download the update 5.21.
Pair your BT on com 7 before installing TT5. Start the TT5 update and install.
What did it for me was to switch of my BT and to switch it on at the same time as starting TT5 the first time, then go to settings, other BT and choose com 7. Now it should start and work.

I also asked a lot of stuff...but NOT questions that are asked a 1000 times already like "how do I upgrade my Rom" or "how do I install TT5", because the answers to all this questions are given many many times on this forum!
The search page is really one of my favourite pages of this forum.
It's SAD to see that new members are asking questions (that are asked about 5-10 times a week) without even take one look at the search page.
Regards,
Molski.

First, you must CID unlock your phone if you want to use either a custom Rom or a Rom from another carrier. SIM unlock only allows you to use another carrier's SIM in your phone. Search for "CID Unlock" you'll find what you need to know.
Second, it is sad when you come here feeling entitled to have others who have taken the time and effort to read these great forums just answer every single question time and time again. I guess you think you're special because none of your friends have a Wizard and you want to show them how cool you can make it but don't want to do the work?
Having a Wizard doesn't make anyone special here. In fact most of us have owned more than 1 Windows Mobile phone. Personally I started with Nokia Smartphones running Symbian and graduated to Windows Mobile 2003. Then I moved up to Windows Mobile 2005.
I was a newbie once but I didn't just come in ask ask with reckless abandon. I spent time reading the forums. It's amazing how well things will work for you if you actually take the time to search and read-up on this great little device.
There is a wealth of information here and you will get all of the help you could ever want if you will just put in a little effort.
It's a forum, meaning you can ask, ask, ask............
I did and will.
@Vilem
Never read THIS:
1. Check if something hasn't been asked before
Some questions just keep popping up over and over. Please use the 'search' function in the menu above each and every page in the forum. Try entering a few keywords to see if your question has been asked before. If it has, please read the topics and see if you can figure it our from there.
(We acknowledge that part of the problem is that we never created a well-organized system of FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) documents. But then we're doing lots of cutting-edge stuff, and we'd rather build cool tools than work on perfecting FAQs.)
It belongs to the STICKY "Please read this before posting", but I taka a wild guess that you never read this!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4534
Yes I did, and I also tried all remarks/suggestions on the forum, which in my case didn't work. So I re-issued my question and never ever received a comment or answer back.
It can happen, as in my case, that people have problems which are not mentioned earlier. Even you could have something like that, then it would be helpfull if there are people who would help.
Molski, see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=53317&highlight=
Okay, thats true, but that does NOT mean that you can ask, ask, ask about everything pal
Oh I didnt know you could ask about everything but now i know here goes.
I'm trying to get a new business plan down on paper and every morning when i start i move onto something else like thread hopping. is there a cure to this problem and do i need a firmware upgrade?
bhayani
ps did a search bit no luck. Not all answers are on there, BUT most are.
this thread could easily be put to bed right now as long as noone replies to it.
tempting...............
O.k I'll stop.

Making the ATT Tilt Like the Unlocked HTC Kaiser

This is my first post.
I have owned a 8125 (wizard) for a year. I'm getting the tilt (399 from premier) soon. Before I do this I have a few questions if those who own can answer:
Is there a way to put the HTC Rom on the Tilt?
If so, How does it run?
Can you unlock the GPS? If so, does can you use Tom Tom? Can I use the GPS for free without using Telenav?
I really only care about the GPS, because my 8125 is pretty similar other than that.
Let me know please!

Just go to the Kaiser upgrading section to find the HardSPL unlocker and the Kaiser ROM to flash.
The GPS on the Tilt is already unlocked so you can use it with any software or data-based navigation program. . . no Telenav subscription needed.
Try reading the Kaiser forum before taking up space with questions that have already been asked about a million times...

Try being a bit kinder to the newbies. After purchasing a Kaiser I have been back on the boards for the first time in 2+ years and despite 5 straight days now (probably 20-25 full hours reading) this info was new to me.
What is also new to me is the elitist attitude of some members. This is a forum, and the last time I checked this meant it was a gathering place for people to share info. Some people will always be new and ask questios that others find pedantic. I see this pattern on every forum I have ever visited. If you can tell from the topic that it is something that has already been covered, don't read the post, but if you do go to the trouble to read it, AND make a comment, then at least make a helpful suggestion such as, "Try searching on XXX". This not only helps the OP, but others who happen to be "in the same moment" and would like more info too.
sorry but even as a new member I agree with austinsnyc...if the topic is already there, do a search on the forum first and look for maybe 5 minutes before you post redundant questions. This isnt about an elitest attitude, its about being considerate of everyone on the forum and not flooding it with crap that is already there.

Yeah me too. But I usually do search.
It wasn't the suggestion to search that I found objectionable, it was the way is was said. It's just not a very nice way to welcome a new poster. I am sure we have all asked stupid questions from time to time. No need to be rude about it. That was the elitist part. If you have em, imagine of your kid's teacher said to your child on the first day of school. "That was a stupid question, stop wasting our time."
Sadly no one came to my defense. Still say I am making a bad call on the change in tone of the forum? Rhetorical question, not looking to start a flame war. My last word on this is to ask others to please be polite. Nuff said.
Unless someone is new to forums (and the internet) in general, they should know to search before asking something, but that doesn't mean older users need to be a jerk if they don't.
Also, sometimes information gets buried in large threads and even though you may use the search, it can be hard to sort through all of the results or a very large thread to pull together all of the information. Sometimes, it's really helpful if a knowledgeable user can paraphrase it all in one place.
Thank you newbie 2. Instead of searching through thread after thread i asked. Your answer on the unlocked gps part of the phone was all i needed !
In wolfs, defense....I've been pouring through the kaiser upgrading sections and just when I think it is safe to put the HTC rom upgrade in my tilt, I read posts like "when will they make this for the tilt?". I'm relatively sure that this upgrade works on the tilt, but am even more sure that I would never know what to do if it didn't...nor would I know what to do if I had to put the AT&T rom back on if I needed to get warranty work done - like I might, since mine absolutely will not beam files via bluetooth right now. I've put a bunch of tweaks on my tilt and love em...thank you everybody sooooo much! But currently am 'ascairt' to put the HTC rom on.

Help please

I have a new HTC Kaiser, just come from a N95 8GB and have to use the Kaiser as my corporate phone. I am having real trouble as it locks up and freezes ... can't click the start button, texts dont open etc etc button presses take ages to register. Other times it is really fast... (I dont have lots of apps open) This is an unbranded , unlocked unit so I dont know why I am having all this trouble as I have installed nothing onto it.
What should I do ... It does seem to be a software thing, the device firmware is cd os 5.1.1620 (18215.0.4.2).
I just want it to be fast and responsive and work well as a phone... I hope i am not asking to much
Any suggestions would be welcome, I had a look at all the firmwares, but not sure where to start.
Mark
flash a new rom and see how it is?
that was my point, there a lot of roms to choose from ... What would you suggest....
Mark
dutty dutty dutty.. from my personal experience duttys are the ones with the most features and really speedy as well.. but try different ones out and see which one works for you
i would suggest a hard reset and see if that solves ur problem.
the rom i have in my sig is very fast and responsive.

L26! L26! L26! I enjoy his ROMs throughly. You will notice that everyone has his or her own opinion. And once you get the Bite on one, you'll want to keep trying.
Hi All,
Please forgive my ignorance but I dont have a clue what you guys are talking about... I originally was looking to see if there was a firmware upgrade for the Tytn 2 since Nov last year?
Upon stumbling on this thread I am very interested to know more... Is there a dummy's guide to doing what you describe above?
Thanks for the help and apologies for the stupidity!

Yes, GWENI or The Kaiser FAQ Wiki

Who renames Kaiser-Forum to "Kaiser, HTC TyTN II, T-Mobile MDA Vario III, AT&T Tilt"

Maybe it's a enigma..
It's probably for all the noobs who can't actually read, and keep posting in the wrong forum. I think Stylez's fingers must be red raw from moving all those posts out of ROM development.
I understand that some people aren't naturally fluent in English, but for those who are, there are no excuses not to read the FAQ's/Stickies, and post in the right place.
The administration is trying to clean up the forum, there are now over 2 million members. With almost 350,000 threads containing 4.5 million posts, a little re-catagorizing and clean up is longer overdue.
Luckily we have two of the best Mods on this site in stylez and Dave Shaw keeping our Kaiser forum clean and organized. Other forums aren't as lucky
It's to make it easier for people to know the devices that we have since a Kaiser is called several names under carriers, we are the first sub forum to test this and i can understand how when first viewed it's a bit unhealthy on the eyes but it should help the new members know that a TYTN II is a Kaiser
Also you will have noticed the question part @ end of ROM Development has gone in the little writing hopefully to stop my fingers turning purple and stop the little flames popping out of my head "meant in comedy"
Like others have stated previous moving with times things have to change.
Thanks for kinds words

Really?! I'm not sure that this forum is here to serve just you, new members will hopefully find the renaming of the sub forums easier and hopefully will join in and add to the community. When I first got my Kaiser I only knew it as an HTC Tytn II, I found this site after knowing the device as Kaiser. I hope more will do the same.
All you gotta do is read buddy, the main page that links to all of the forums has always said.
"Discussion about the TyTN II, MDA Vario III, and Tilt"

I'm with you on this one Chumley It seems as if xda-dev is loosing its way if it attempts to become xda-newby-spoonfeeding.
What would be a better plan by the mods imo is to impose some sort of blocking to prevent any postings at all from new members (and perhaps repeat offenders who ask without searching) until the relevant wiki & stickies had been read and a mini questionnaire on their contents had been successfully passed. Might be tricky to implement but I bet it'd improve the standard of posts/reduce the clutter. I'm off now to put on an asbestos suit
well my main post was reflecting on the query the OP had..

Clearly.... I wouldn't think you'd write that about our mods post I am concerned though that the more spoon feeding is provided, the more that some will take advantage of it and cause more clutter. It's here now so I don't expect this to change (although you never know) I retain my concerns above.
