Can we change ordinary members to not be called 'member'..?
Dunno about other countries but in the UK it's slang for one's 'wedding tackle' and I don't want to have to post hundreds more times to be promoted to Senior Member and thus no longer be known as a total 'member'.
I'm more than capable of proving myself to be a bit of a knob without the label....!
Hahaha this is one of the stranger posts I have seen on this site!! No need for any smart comments just because I'm a Senior Member now!!
To be fair, I think the comment about my being able to prove myself to be a bit of a knob is kind of self-proving.....
I vote for Jr. Schlong, Schlong and Senior Schlong. That may sound better than 'member'.

ha ha! lol.
Until recently making the acquaintance of my beautiful girlfriend, my monkey was set to Automatic, i.e. self-spanking.
Just to contribute to this 'Austin Powers' thread:
Remember the M$ Zune, which so suitably to this site is based on Win CE?
Well, in Hebrew 'Zune' (pronounced closer to zee-u-n) means using your member with its female counterpart. And its not the 'polite' version of the word if you catch my drift...
Since it is Xda-DEVELOPERS.. perhaps it can be changed to Developer and Senior Developer? <shrug>

Are you well developed. Perhaps ones ability to develop diminishes with age?

Some members are just naturally more developed than others, independant of age. i believe there is a Member on this forum from Nantucket that is very developed and well over 50 years old. As for comparing the development of members based on ethnicity, I think we should discourage that kind of stereotyping.
Oh I dunno - I'm white British and if anyone says that doesn't mean there's a 90% chance of being an alcoholic and loutish then they're being unrealistically kind to us.
As for other ethnicities or cultures, I think it's kind of nice (perhaps in another forum, let alone thread) to have a series of statements by people FROM WITHIN a particular subgroup suggesting what stereotypes might be true of them. Statements from people not within a subgroup might not be so helpful though - you know how these things are.
how about tool? junior tool, senior tool!

Have some questions .. would be glad if some one answers them
How do you become one ?
Is any one allowed to become a mod or only the site owners / major contributors allowed?
Are there seperate mod's for each section of an PDA section?
Thanks
Well, to be honest there really isn't a set of requirements but there are some things common amoungst your Moderators.
First, we are all recgonized as active and contributing members fo the forum, For some of us our contributions were/are as Rom Chefs, software developers etc and for others it was being helpful to other forum users and working actively with the existing Moderators by actively reporting violations of the site TOS and helping keep us aware of developing situations which required out attention.
Second, we are generally a group of very knowledgable PPC/SP Phone users. Most of us have years of experience even going back to the days when a cable was required to connect your PPC to your Cell phone and GPRS was slower than a modem from the 70's (some of us even remember those modems from the 70's - Acoustic Coupler anyone!). Now there are some who don't do back that far but certianly have caught up to (and even surpassed a few of us) in the "knowledgable" category.
Third, we all have come to love XDA-Developers and want to help it continue to develop (ha ha) in a positive manner.
Finally, we all volunteered for the gig and have accepted the highly exaggerated paychecks that XDA-Devs provides. Okay so the paycheck isn't real but how can you put a price on knowing that you are helping maintain something that inspires and guides so many users on a daily basis.
ROFL.... you guys wish the admin was that hot

Actually, it's a sad commentary on how little regard people have for others' time and effort. Too many people don't have the courtesy to expend some effort on their own before cluttering up a site with useless questions like this one. The worst part is incessant abuse like this drives away people whose posts are valuable to others. This is inconsiderate behavior on par with spitting on others' shoes, riding your bike/skateboard/etc. on a sidewalk, jaywalking, etc..

Right and wrong you are. Its a demonstration of ignorance without the intention of being disrespectful. People are simply uneducated when it comes to proper forum etiquette. You cant stop that. But you can assure yourself that all it takes are posts like this that will generate some flames and the OP will think twice about choosing not to search before posting.
You cant prevent posts like this, its inevitable.. but people do learn, and that's what you get with public forums.
Jay-walk enough times and your bound to get hit by a car..

I also yawn at the above.
I think you need to gain some life experience and the much needed perspective that comes with it. I actually think it's people like you that can ruin a forum. Empathy, tolerance and patience are the incandescent qualities that the cooks and senior users of this forum display to EVERYONE on this forum. They make this place what it is. You should try to emulate them.

wow! and you call for tolerance?!
this place like any other place in the world (including the deepest jungle) has its rules. ignoring the rules (in this case a very basic one) can be sometimes tolerated but not encouraged the way you are doing. next time the same noob will yawn at you
Oh give me a break!
His remarks were not polite or informative, in fact, they were designed to denigrate. There was no need for it at all - it's noobie bashing and you know it. I'm not encouraging the breaking of rules at all, where did I say or imply that?
I am however encouraging tolerance, that's not to say that people can't point noobies towards the search functions and rules of the forum; to make them feel bad is just spiteful.
And yes, I am intolerant towards people who like to pick on the less-informed.
To compare asking questions to 'insulting people' is absolutely ridiculous.

Thank you very much XDA-DEVELOPERS MODS for the upgrade.
You have a great New Year.
YOSEFE.
It's not that big a deal...
If you put 100 monkeys in a room and have them logged in to XDA, all their posts combined would more than likely place them at a Senior level...aka the monkey theorem
The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare.
So...from one Senior Member to another...welcome to the club...
I am also Senior member. What does it mean? Something specific?
Or it changes automatically, when i post more than XX posts?
Happy new Year
you reach this status when you post 100 posts or more
in order to reach moderator status you need to submit a nomination request then if this is accepted you need to do the moderator initiation test
this involves bull-whips chains and a blindfold an a truck of swans and geese.
at this time ive been asked not to say what the task actually involves as it supposed to be a evaluation of your judgement and task handling skills
You forgot to mention the tar and feathers ... or was that supposed to remain confidential?

WHO IS YOUR IDOL ON XDA Developers?
Hi Everyone!
Everyone of us were once a Junior Member (yeah this also includes Moderators).
As we progressed further, we became Member, Senior member, RC/RD/RT, Mod..............
But when we were Jr. members we looked at someone's number of posts/number of thanks.
We used to think "One day I will get this number of Posts/ Thanks".
Or just looked at someone's impressive development and followed his tracks and now you are Senior member/RD/RC/RT.
So just name that person here. You can also add why he is your idol.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
I start with mine. @GermainZ, Forum Moderator.
He is my idol because he is always helpful. Even though being a mod, he is seen helping people on small problems.
Also he has got impressive style of locking threads.
So why are you waiting for?
Start commenting.............................
were pilessi
Well there's "his Quarx-ness". Eheh, been using his astonishing work since cm7 on my Moto Defy. So kudos to him (and actually all the other android developers).
My idol is @justmpm because he knows what does the fox say
Any user who used this username @Panda @jamesbond cos I like them hahahahaha
I can't post my idol in case it makes anyone search for her name on the internet, and that's why she's my idol

I don't have an idol... I respect a lot of people, but ultimately I guess my idol is made from the best qualities of these people.
I suppose that's kind of like your idol, though... Self confident, not afraid to get dirty, doesn't mind exposure as she trusts herself, ever giving, smiling in the most desperate and disgusting of situations, happy (and not quite unlike) as a baby in his bathtub.

Yes indeed. I admire your wit, extensive knowledge, willingness to help others, your ability to restrain yourself from spamming the boards or posting overused, clichéd material that passed through 4chan, reddit, 9gag, tumblr and has already been posted on XDA a thousand times already, the way you never make a silly comment, and generally the way you offer such a high example for others. And most of all, your modesty.

Just a line to thank you for accepting me into the group. I'm a retired VoIP engineer, prior to that a Marine Radio Officer in the Merchant Navy although I started off as a Morse Code basher in the Royal Navy at 15...so quite a long time in what they now call IT. I like to keep my mind active so pulling out lots of computer stuff I've collected over the years and getting them up to speed with new SSD and RAM plus the latest W11 OS (with a few hacks) As I get them fettled up they will be going on eBay or Facebook market place so I will finally put a smile on the wife's face, she hates all my 'clutter' Sad to see some of these Sony Vaio's go as I've collected what I thought were the best laptops money could buy but then Sony pulled the plug on support ho hum. I will no doubt be asking lots of stupid questions, bear in mind I'm just a morse basher with a bit of age dabbling in something that interests me!
All the best
Steven Barrett

They sure do, and so do we...that adjustment can be a rough one! From an environment where frequent use of certain four letter expletives is part of the everyday vocabulary, to the "civilized" part of society where such things result in a trip to your not so friendly Human Resources representative.

Also from me a very warm welcome! I commenced to serve my country, NATO i.e. the free world in the Western hemisphere at that time, too. Actually much easier than the times afterwards, which I experienced until my retirement or monitor nowadays. But I think we better don't turn into any political discussions on XDA.
