Both of these are the same price any one have an opinion on which one is the best buy or other options.
Thanks.
Get the c542ea. Better processor, better graphics card. the c555 uses Celeron whereas the 542 is a Intel Core Duo. Granted, clocked lower than the Celeron on the 555 but a better buy nonetheless. It is a better processor, not an "el cheapo" like the Celeron. Also, the graphics card is a better deal on the 542 than the "value" rated card of the 555.

hay there,
just womdering which graphics card was the best from the two i have, in terms of throughput and technical details the two cards are both agp 8x and theyre a ATI X1300 256 DDR2
or a
GeForce 6200 256 DDR2
anybody know which of these is better
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/257
mind you having more mem on a video card will never make it faster unless the game use large enough textures otherwise the mem is just left empty
x1300 but i think they are the same.
I had an x1300 out of an old dell. Then i bought a HD 4650 for £36.50

Hey guys, I'm thinking about giving my laptop a little speed boost. This would be the first time I've replaced anything in a laptop to make it go faster (I've replaced an LCD before) and it looks easy enough, but is it worth the money?
I'm considering going to 8Gb DDR3 1333MHZ from 4Gb. It's going to cost about £60 for the RAM, and I'd sell the old stuff on ebay, which should make it slightly more affordable. RAM is the joint lowest windows experience index score with my HDD at 5.9, so that's why I thought I'd start there.
My computer specs are:
i-7 740qm 1.73GHz quad core processor
Nvidia 335M GPU
RAM would certainly be the cheapest and easiest thing to upgrade, but is it worth it? I do quite a bit of gaming, mostly Wii games with Dolphin Emu.
Cheers

4GB would seem like enough, but yea it should provide a performance boost. If you can, you should go with 1600Mhz instead of 1333Mhz. Btw what kind of laptop do you have? Also the more DIMMS, the more better.
8GB would provide a good performance boost.
4GB is optimal, and 8GB for anything in general is actually best. 1600Mhz would even be better.
Sorry for the two posts. I've been awake for the past 24hrs.
Also are you running your operating system in 64bit or 32bit? I figured I'd ask since your specs for a laptop seem fine regarding performance.
It's a Dell XPS L501x. 1600MHz also looks afforable, I might go for that. As I say I am new to this, is it definitely possible to put 1600 in to replace 1333? All I know about my current RAM is that it is 2x2Gb 1333MHz ddr3 204pin. Is it as simple as taking the laptop apart, out with the old, in with the new, boot it up? That's what the manual is suggesting.
Oh, and it's 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium

I'll look into your laptop to see if it is compatible, which it should be. Anyhow for my dad's XPS M1730, there is a little door on the bottom of it that needs to be unscrewed so you can replace the RAM. It is easy as pie, just make sure you install it correctly and check if your motherboard supports 8GB.
Okay I've checked out your laptop. It supports up to 8GB 1333Mhz so 1600Mhz is out of the question. So upgrade to 8GB 1333Mhz.
Fantastic, thank you. How much of a performance boost do you think it'll give? I'm eventually planning to upgrade to a faster hard drive too.

It will be notable.
Here is how RAM works with laptops.
2GB is Fair
4GB is Solid
8GB would be considered best. This includes desktops that are for gaming.
So if you ever build a gaming desktop, 8GB would be more than enough for enthusiasts gamers.
Your laptop comes with a 7200RPM Hard drive which is good as it is. I do not know if it supports a 10,000RPM hard drive. If anything you should check out solid state drives also known as SSD's. They are expensive, but they provide gorgeous performance. Just make sure your laptop supports it.
Well thats laptop is even speedier than my desktop from 2007 AMD 4400(something).
Using mostly a EeePC 1005HA (Win7 starter) with 2GB of RAM.
I found that the best way to use that excess RAM was by turning of the Windows Paging file/Swap file off. Windows is forced to use the RAM the computer got.
Which is giving a terrific speed boost. Have runned the 1005HA without Swap file since December 2009.
Also make sure to have updated BIOS firmware, my Desktop was sluggish and slow after installing Win7 Home. It turned out to be the BIOS needed a firmware that worked with Win7.
I have an SGS now and I love it. My contract is up in November and I will be getting a new phone (hopefully), so I am starting to look around and see what is coming up in the next few months.
Looking at GSMArena, I saw 2 phones that I would be interested in, but they are a bit different.
Which smartphone would you prefer?
A)
Dual core 1.8Ghz CPU
2GB ram
12MP camera
Memory card slot
720 x 1280 pixels, 4.6 inches
MicroUSB v2.0 (MHL), USB On-the-go
Secondary Camera - 2 MP
B)
Quad core 2.5Ghz CPU
1GB ram
8 MP camera
No memory card slot
720 x 1280 pixels, 4.5 inches
MicroUSB v2.0
Secondary Camera - 1.3 MP
Everything else is the same.

They both are pretty awesome, but i think i would waite a bit with the Quad core because of software issues/incombabilities etc.
Screens are about the same size - and it has a 12MP kamera
1.8 GHz is very much enough, and with some CFW rom+kernel you can overclock quit a bit
+ it would be a shame and an error you will regret later with no memory card!?
So i would choose A:
Best regards
i think, dual core 1.8 ghz is adequate
I'd choose the dual-core one...
Quad-core with 1 GB of RAM does not sound really good to me, + it's still uncommon, there might be software problems upon syncing with the quad-core
the choice is still in your hands though in the end
i would go for the 1.8ghz one, bcoz it has more ram then the other, and also memory expention...
more memory will help the current apps run smoother, then the quad core one, becose it may have 4 cores but not all apps uses all the cores not even in PC world and less memory...
I don't even want to think what a quadcore running would do to the battery, and what would you use 4 cores for on a phone, dual core is more than enough I think plus you get double the ram which should be good for multitasking.
My thoughts exactly, I would go with A also. I find that if I need computing power, I'll use my desktop. A quad-core CPU is overkill in my book. As I have a 1Ghz CPU in my phone (Galaxy S) now (and I find it fast enough for my needs), a dual-core 1.8Ghz CPU would be more plenty fast for me. I would rather have a better camera and more ram, not to mention the card slot.
By the way, these are the two phones I am talking about...
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php
And the
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_zeta-4333.php
Now these are not available yet, but I did mention I was looking at phones that will be coming out in the near future.

Take A....
You dont need a Quad Core...
So you have a better Camera and a micro usb slot. Thats important for me.
Gesendet mit meinem SGS mit Tapatalk.
So most of here are geeks in the good scene of the word. We all have our mobile devices that we love and hack and tweak and mod. 98% of the time, to do what we need to do to our mobile devices, we rely on our PC. I'd be willing to bet that allot of you also have a strong attachment to your PC hardware as much as your mobile. Weather its for development, gaming, testing, surfing, working, pr0n? Use this thread to post specs and/or pics and show off all the hardware that sits between you and your modded mobile device.
Main PC (no image cause my desk is a wreak) but enjoy my desktop =]
AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz CPU
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 Mobo
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
eVGA Nvidia GTX 260 896MB
3x 250GB SATA 3.0
1x 1TB SATA 3.0
LG DVD +/-RW DL
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
40" 1080P (1920x1080) HDTV (use for tv and as display)
I use this for everything. Dev, Gaming, School, Work. You'll find visual studio and Borland Delphi 7 along with the likes of MW3 and BF3. I also burn many a DVD and do most of my phone tasks here.
Mobile PCs
See attachment
Top Left, Clockwise -=> Dell Precision M6300, Dell Precision M90, Toshiba A215, HP TouchPad, Acer 5670
All configured similarly, less the Touchpad. Minor variance in CPU from 1.86GHz Core Duo to 2.4GHz C2D. All 4GB DDR2, All Win7 Ultimate (M6300 64Bit). I actually use the Acer the most as its Power/Weight ratio is awesome. It will do post modern 3d gaming with its 256MB Ati x1600 dedicated GPU. But I mostly work in Visual Studio on this. It is nice to be able to take a break and pwn some no0bs in the face and have great framerates . I love my Toshiba as a communications laptop. Its integrated web cam is top notch. And my Dell Precision's, well they are just 17" powerhouses. Mostly used for Mobile Gaming or movie viewing on their awesome large 17 inch displays (1440x900 native).
I did a search and didn't find any like posts. If I just missed it, feel free to merge this with it. If not, I look forward to see what everyone else uses when their not on their phone!
I got an Asus K53SV-SX838V notebook which has some nice specifications. In fact I use my notebook more then my phone.
I do use my notebook for playing COD MW3 and movies and tv series and sometime I like to try other operating systems like Linux, but will do that most time in vmware or live usb.
It's specifications are:
CPU: Intel Core I7 - 2679QM, 2.2Ghz with turbo boost till 3.1Ghz
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 540 + Intel HD 3000
RAM: 8GB
SSD: 128GB Crucial M4
Further it has an 1366x768 resolution and its 15.6 inch. Also it has one USB 3.0 port and an multitouch touchpad and HDMI and a VGA port and an standard webcam.
I'm very happy with it and it was an good deal, I bought it for € 587 excluding the SSD ofcourse at end of january , it came with an 640GB harddrive which is now my external harddrive.
I have a stock Toshiba Satellite for a laptop but my gaming rig is as follows
AMD Phenom II 1090T 6 Core
16GB Corsair Dominator GT
Crossfired 6970's
1.5 TB SATA HDD
128 GB Crucial M4 SSD
7.1 Audio
Nothing real special but it works for me.
Asus P5K Premium Black Pearl Edition
8GB ram
few terabytes of hardrives
2X 8600 GTi in SLi
C2D 2.6 (I think)
Some dust in the case
On a 23" Acer
Runs Skyrim without the slightest lag on all highest settings
Also MAcbook for everyday work, also connected to the 23" and it's closed all the time with an external KB and mouse. lol.

How is the buldozer? not just for gaming but other any other cpu intensive work? Im looking at getting the AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz on newegg right now for 149.99 (it really is in my shopping cart lol), I'll hold off a few though as ive never actually been able to chat at someone who owns one. This quad i think is at an awesome price/performance ratio though.
My big main PC is the first one that I put together myself:
Intel i5-2500k (stock)
16GB G.Skill DDR3
2 overclocked XFX AMD 6970s
125GB Corsair SSD boot drive
1TB Samsung data/application drive
3.1 Sony soundbar home theater system
47" LG LCD TV.
I've still got my HP school laptop as a backup, but I haven't touched it in a looong time.
My computer sucks :-/ here I go:
AMD Sempron 140 @ 3.65GHz
AMD ECS 890GXM-A 1.0
SuperTalent 2GB (1 x 1 GB) DDR3 1600MHz
ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3
1x 300GB SATA
Windows 8
My PC is getting kinda dated but still does everything I need so no point fully upgrading yet
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Mobo
AMD X2 6000+
4 x 2GB OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400
EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti FPB 1GB GDDR5
around 9TB of HDD space 1.5 installed rest hot swapped
22" Samsung 2253BW and 23" Acer X233H
I gave up on desktop, I replaced it with a Lenovo Y470p laptop. Its the first laptop I've purchased even though I built plenty of desktop in past. Never wanted get a one until they are small enough with a decent gpu and price.
This one isn't high end either, but with the AMD HD7690 which is 10% slower than a desktop HD5750/6750, its good enough to handle Skyrim in high settings. And since I only play mostly HalfLife2 mods, that's good enough for me. The laptop screen is abysmal, but I wasn't going to shell out an extra $500 to get an HP Envy 15 with the same hardware spec and any screen larger than 14".
Although I'm using it stationary as a desktop replacement connected to my 32" LCD. The main problem I'm having in term of gaming is the HDMI output signal lags by 30-40ms compared to the main screen. Add that to the 80ms in game lag (due to crappy ATT DSL) and the input lag of LCD itself, and the result is getting owned by wallhackers.
I will never get used to the keyboard and touchpad on the laptop so I'm still using my Logitech G5. I'm down on my last G5 since the other one goes choppy, I think I need to stock up more from ebay, I can't get used to any of Logitech new mice since they seem lower quality. I certainly won't be using any wireless mice or ones with glowing LED lights.
The only mod I did is to turn off the turbo boost for the Core i7 so the temperature doesn't shoot up to 90*C.
I'm building a new pc, so far i got two setups under my budget. But i can't decide.
1.
Intel Core i5-4590 Soc 1150 CPU
>GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S2V (S1150,DDR3,VGA/DVI,USB3.0,LAN,SATAIIII) mATX
>KINGSTON 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM HyperX FURY Red Series 2x (8gb)
>Zalman T1 PLUS, mATX, USB3.0 black case
2nd;
Asrock LGA1151 H110M-DGS mobo
>Corsair 4GB DDR4 2133 Value 2x (8gb)
>Intel Core i5-6600 Soc 1151?*
Help me please guys. I'll go cray
Definitly ddr4 is worth it's price. Go for 2nd
2nd is definitely better
