Favourite Progressive Rock artist :) - Off-topic

wondering if anyone using this forum likes progressive rock or symphonic rock. Tell me your favourite prog rock artist. My fav is Genesis and Rush

what is progresssive rock ?
i like peter and the testtube babies

Aye, I like Rush, Genesis, Peter Gabriel and Porcupine Tree

Dream Theater is the best progressive rock band for me!

Dream theatre and porcupine tree are awesome bands too. Both bands are much more like progressive metal

RUSH..........simply the best.
missed them recently due to lack of funds but saw them in 2004 at wembley arena.
blow any new bands off stage.

Rush was at their best during the 70's and 80's. Their newest album snakes and arrows totally kicks ass even afer like 3 decades. Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee and Neil Peart are freakin' awesome together.

saw them way back in '79 the first time, my friend.....hemispheres tour.(?)
reckon they are better now than then even.....was great to see a whole crowd of '40 somethings' with no hair trying to headbang,,,,but we tried lol.

too bad i didn't exist during the 70's to see Rush If not it would have been an awesome view.
But however I did see the snakes and arrows tour on TV

coheed and cambria

Dream Theater and Rush.

I'm a huge fan of Fourth Estate and now their front man Dave Beegle (since they've now broken up). Fourth Estate was definitely in the Prog/Instrumental Rock category and then Dave Beegle is now doing more solo classical guitar. Awesome stuff.
Savatage is good too (they turned into Trans-Siberian Orchestra), they are a bit more 'rock operaish', but still good stuff.

Arsenal!!!!!!

Sorry, football season is starting this weekend.
Must update my Hermes before the match starts.
Actually does anyone know of an app, which has the whole English Premier League schedule on it?
While I do think Arsenal, Man U. and Chelsea suck a fat one I do love watching the Premier League.
there is a program, I use it and it's fantastic. http://www.mbovin.com/teamstats/ppc.php
Oh, yea... INTER ALL THE WAY!!! Sucks they lost Recoba... but Zlatan is still the man. Not to mention Cruz and Stankovic. But they definitively need to get rid of Julio Cesar and get a decent goalie.
And as for the Premiership, I follow Liverpool religiously. I think Riise and Reina are very underrated players, Crouch sucks but I admire his adventurous and risk taking spirit, and Gerrard needs to get his s&*t together!
Cheers for the program...
It works great.
Crouch made it on to the England squad again, so he must be improving a bit.
Liverpool! Awwwwwwww!
Yea... FC LIVERPOOL! I know they aren't the greatest but they have spirit and very good players.
Hey, they went where Arsenal couldn't go last Champion's League
But maybe this year the Gunners will do something. I actually think they did just fine last season when Henry was out injured. An indication that while individualism in soccer is obviously appreciated, it is still a team sport. I don't think Arsenal will hurt much without him. They have great players and great team spirit. Just not as much as Liverpool but that's just my opinion.
I think being the fan of the strongest teams must be right as boring than being Michael Schumacher fan. Isn't it?
devis....that program...simply brilliant...thank you thank you thank you
Excellent program, can we have more apps for Windows Mobile that show Spurs at the bottom of the league!!!
Thanks... it took a lot of search to find it, and I actually kept in touch a little with the creator. Very nice guy, and helpful too.
Speaking of which... he will add leagues upon request. Should you have a league that isn't featured, feel fee to email him. If he can add it, he will.

Depends on the point of view.
If you're one of those people who like drama then you will pick a mid-range team and every game they play will be a drama.
If you are one of those people who complain a lot, then you will pick a crap team and then ***** left and right about how badly they're doing, just to have something to ***** about.
If you're a person like me... (hard to believe since I know i'm the greatest ) then you will pick the team that you like, and no matter how they do, you still support them.
So there... hope I've been able to shed some rays of bright light in this obscure and highly confusing choice of sports entertainment.

Movie: The Dark Knight

Good evening peeps, on a few of my other forums I know I like to sit and talk abut the movies that come out, typically because friends and myself alwatys goto midnight showings because, well, it's way more fun and i'd like to start it here with what was the BEST movie of the summer, year, or decade for all i care lol.
The Dark Knight, the new batman movie, was amazing IMO....best movie i've seen in SO long. it was really long whicih only helped the situation, finally a movie that can have everything take place without skipping around to speedin things up. it was in my opinion by far a great movie and definitely a 10/10 + everyone should see it. christian bale was great, and heath ledger played the joker flawlessly IMHO.
We went to the midnight showing at Emagine Theatre in Novi, Michigan and they sold out 9 theatres for midnight showing..
just amazing...what do u guys think? can't wait for the next....the penguin? or mr. freeze w/ Arnold lol ;-)

errrrr...Why So Serious?
I saw it opening night. It is one of, if not the most, amazing movies I have ever seen. It's has action, comedy, whit (and a lot of it, a lot of people probably won't understand much of the meaning), and it's also a bit dark, which made this movie really good. Go see it!!!
Im in Italy, still DarkNight not in theatres
... but i think i will NOT go to first plays: too much crowd. Maybe i'll wait 1-2 week, then go with dochinka maya
Good movie...was it the best action movie ever? No. It was too long in my opinon but Heath Ledger did the Joker justice and made old Jack's take just laughable. All I kept thinking while watching it was, "when is Joker going to show up again?".

Yeah, the Joker was nice and creepy. Only thing i couldn't get was batmans scream/speaking. it always threw me off. 9/10...
ace film joker didnt bother me at all!!!! good old jack was better i feel. but harvey two face totaly stole the show for me!!!! was such a good film after gettting 13 forgian language students kicked out for talking and playing with phones still the best film since last bond.

Jack's role in Batman w/ Keaton was good
But you have to understand that "The Dark Knight" is based entirelt off the DC comics. The original Batman Movies, while taking elements of the DC comics, still were in a League of there own. You can see the differences in the Characters as well as the story line. 2-Face in the origianal Batman story was burned by Sulfyric Acid during a trial, as in the new one it was a gas burn after the explosion
Heath's role as the Joker in "The Dark Knight" is based off the comic " The Killing Joke". If you read the comic you will see that Heath nailed the role 10/10 and thats why its a shame he died because he deserve all the credit for playing such an amazing role. You can see that he plays the role from this comic because of "wanna know how I got these scars?" In the comic, everytime he said that he had a different story each time.
Jack's role as Joker in The first Batman movie w/ Keaton was also perfect if you compare the character to the conventional Joker.
I think both Jokers were played perfectly but they're hard to compare because they're based off of different Jokers.
All in all the movie was great, except for when Christian Bale talked as Batman, talk about annoying. Nobody did it better then Michael Keaton, but nobody has done it worse the George Clooney LOL
in the terms of l33t american teenagers
the movie was "the -

Heath carried the movie alot for me
and not just because he died
because he was less silly then the old series or the old movie
more dark like the new movies
and i only felt i could recognize him in few shots in the movie
and thats a point for acting i guess

i know it has been based on that but i felt it wasnt right for me. plus i felt being a 12 a in the uk was stupid children for any age under 18 maybe get away with a 15 should not be seeing people make pencils vanish using some ones face.
dont get me wrong i loved the film will be going to see it again but i prefure my nutters to almost be normal and have a sens of humility in them so when they do the really nasty stuff its alot more shocking. for instance it would be alot more of a shock if say g w bush let lose on a crowd with an uzi than some nut job (oh w8 g w bush is a nutter ok say brad pitt)

Favorite Band

Since I'm bored and didn't search and see if there was a thread like this already lol. So the question is, What's your favorite band?
Mine is:
Muse FTW!
If I had to pick a current band it would be The Mars Volta
but I listen to a lot of underground Hip-Hop and in that case it would be MF DOOM

That is what I was implying Shane, that they copied everything Radiohead did so thus I like Radiohead better. Also I don't think that most people a little younger then me realize that Muse was a huge joke when they came out but because they are still around they somehow have this credibility...lol.
I like alot of bands, but the band im really into at the moment is ELBOW.
They have just won the Mercury Music Award here in the UK and the album The Seldom Seen Kid is just amazing. Would recommend it
No Finnish metal? Strange.
Korpiklaani ****ing rocks!!!
I like too many bands to list all, but this band has been breaking the sound barrier's for some time: MINISTRY
Minor Threat for their influence on me
Flyleaf
Aroarah
Pipedown
Audio Karate
All That Remains
Heaven Shall Burn
and the progressive increase in length up there was by complete accident lol.
MUSE!!! Duhhh, I am a pwoper pwoud MUSER!
Necro thread. Use the "what are you listening to" thread.

Mayhem Festival 7/26

I'm going to test out the Qik app on the G1 at this concert, and I'm inviting anyone to watch it live at my Qik page(which I'll post on the the 6 hour drive to Chicago). I'll post more info when I know concert lineups.
By the way, anyone going to be there?
holy crap i would kill to see mushroomhead and marilyn manson on the same stage. plus slayer, job for a cowboy and behemoth. i am a metalfan i wish it was coming somewhere near me.
Well I will definetly try to get some of those broadcasted for you. My friends and I are driving 6 hours to see this.
I went to the white river amphitheater show near seattle. Manson sucked, but ****in' slayer kicked ass. All the second stage bands were rad too. Loved cannibal corpse and trivium...

I know one of the reasons I'm going is to see Killswitch and Whitechapel. Also, ready to see the other bands to. Not a big Manson fan so if he sucked, not gonna be a big blow to me lol. CC is going to rock to I bet.

Yeah, Killswitch is sick. It actually sucked they cut all the sets short because of the noise limitations or some ****. Slayer played extra, which cut mansons set short at the end of the night, but I was okay with it. Have fun man!

Shows You've been to

I'm going to see Kasabian on tuesday in Seattle and I got thinking about some of the other shows I've been to: Beck, Matisyahu, Modest Mouse, my friends' country band Aces Up among a few others.
I thought it would be cool to see what all bands you guys have gone to see.
Lets hear em.
Best was definitely Cream. Second would be Rage Against The Machine....
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face.....
Ive been to so many i cant keep track. By far the best were Pantera, Slayer, and Metallica
I don't remember any show I have been to.

Two I wish I had seen.
Best show
GWAR
Hardest hitting
Lamb of God. Pantera, devildriver, and many more bands came out to play with them at the end of the show.
Best surprise
Metallica closing for ozzy. Then King Diamond came out and played with them. They played tons of old punk songs. The sheriff's dept ended up having to come out and close the show. They played for two hours after the show was supposed to end. Noise ordinance killed the party.
A week before Buddy Guy inducted in the Rock n Roll hall of fame, I saw him play with Double Trouble, the band from Stevie Ray Vaughn. That was pure greatness.
I probably see about 40 shows a yr. Come from a college town known for music. Blues, rock, and jazz greats come every year for the Denton arts and jazz fest. I love all music.

A year after dimebag died, down came to town. We booed, threw bottles and gave Phil the bird till he finally walked off stage and quit. Later that night, I guess the doorman didn't know he was who he was and let him into the clubhouse. He then got kicked outoff there. Haha that was hilarious when that his the news.

Massive attack was also awesome as we're the Prodigy...

Saw "38 Special" at a medium size club/bar on Pensacola Beach. Simply amazing. (the club was so tightly packed that I felt as if I was in a can of sardines) They sounded "live", as tight as their studio recordings. You could have put a pair of good mics in that room, and cut a record with little to no editing. I've also seen G3 (Satriani, Malmsteen, and Vai) who also put on a great show.
Saw Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at the Fillmore East, Blood Sweat & Tears (but was too young to remember much). The Blues Breakers at Max's Kansas City. Van Halen, Whitesnake, Dokken and the Scorpions.
