How well does the hsdpa work as far as latency and speed. I know its therotically possible to play xbox live off a cell phone connection as ive done it on my Wizard. Could someone run a speed test from the phone and maybe a few pings.
Appx. 800/1.2...should be theoretical speeds of up to 3.6, but I guess AT&T in this area hasn't uncapped the towers...
800 down or ping? thanks in advance!

Ive noticed that the H symbol doesnt actually show hsdap availability. For example, when I have 3g signal but there is no data transfering I have a 3g symbol with arrow next to it, as soon as i start transfering data it changes to an H even if im connected to a 3g cell with no hsdpa functionality, (confirmed by a speed test).
Any ideas how to actually show whether i am in HDSPA coverage or not?

Why do you say that your not in a HSDPA area or signal range? Just because your not getting really fast speeds? Most HSDPA speeds are from 300Kbs-1.5Mbs when that little 3G changes to H your are most deffen... getting HSDPA
well ive done speed tests when it says the H and it varies between 200 and 300 sometimes.
Is that normal?
Yes just because the Max Download speed is 3.6Mb that does not mean you will come any place close to that. there are so many factors that will throw the download speeds off hell the wind blowing from the west and not east the window being closed and not open you get the Idea
I've been confused by this as well and while speed is clearly better with the "H" on than with 3G, I never go above 450kbps which is a bit slow, 3G tops out at 340kbpw. I wonder how efficient the Qualcomm chip is for 3G+, I hear that Samsung i600 users are getting speeds of 600/700 in the same area.
Sorry if this has been talked about before but im in SoCal (Inland Empire) and ive never gotten above 800kbit/sec on either strictly 3G or HSDPA on my AT&T Tilt. Ive also tested it in Northern California in the Bay Area and same thing..even with full bars. Its happened on any rom ive ever tried and every radio, nothing changes the results. Anyone with similar speeds or with advice to why im not achieving over 1Mbit/sec.

It's because AT&T doesn't have the backhaul speeds. For example, just because you WiFi connected to your router at G or N speeds doesn't make your cable/dsl download any faster.
And now there's iPhones to suck up whatever there was before.
but att is already supporting 7.6mbps right?
Download speeds can be affected by the radio version. Over here on the East Coast, I regularly get speeds over 1mbps. The newer Neon radios seem to be the fastest when it come to tethering.
ya im running a neon radio (1.58 .27.15) ..I notice a lot of people report their speeds from tethering..I run my speed tests through opera9 on dslreports ( the larger 400k/1mb file version) could this be affecting my results?
Running a speedtest from your phone's browser will always produce a lower result than tethering to a PC by USB.
When tethered, I get around 1.2-1.3mbps on average. But on my phone itself, I rarely break 900kbps. My guess is that the phone cannot physically handle data packets coming in much faster than that. (When writing to internal storage that is)

I can't find this NEON radio you're refering to. Don't you mean v1.58.25.17 instead of .27.15?
Main reason: congestion. Socal, inside major city limits has been pretty congested, and in some places, really bad. It just depends on where you are. Att is working on 850mhz overlays, starting on the outskirts and working in, as reports suggest. Just hold on.
Best i've pulled in my indiana crap town is 1.3mbps, mspeed average on 1mb test. This was during off peak times, try testing at 1am on a weekday. We have a low pop density compared to large cities so that helps.
Att isn't 7.2mbit yet, last we heard though, it was in their labs, and intended on deploying 20mbit (roughly) next year, said De La Vega.
Just to clear your device of any fault, run the test on wifi, should do roughly 1.8mbit.
The fastest I got using HSDPA from dslreports.com/mspeed 1mb is 1335kbps. With WiFi I got bewteen 1.7-1.8mbits
Hi, i'm on t-mobile UK. I've run some internet speed tests and i'm getting about 300kbps on both 3G and HSDPA. Is that normal - i thought 'H' was meant to be quicker?

Not nornal because HSDPA (If configured and rolled out properly by the operator) gives up to 7.2 mbps
Might also depend on your contract. The more expensive your data contract, the higher the speed you get.
out of interest which speed test did you use?
check with t-mobile on your contract. in general, W7W £7.50 users do not get HSDPA included. You'll see the H symbol, but you wont get the speeds.
Also, depends on network traffic in your area, network capacity etc. etc.
I'm on the £12.50 W7W add on and get around 600kbps. not the full 7.2mbps, but that is a theoretical maximum, and you will never get that. same as ADSL is 'up to 8meg' , HSDPA is 'up to' 7.2meg.
Hey guys,
Basically its like the title says, Is the Diamond slower at HSDPA speeds than a dedicated 3G dongle?
I have a Compact IV with Web and Walk MAX on my account, HSDPA and HSUPA enabled on the account (I've rung technical and they checked to make sure everythings enabled) and I seem to be getting slower speeds than a normal Tmobile E220 with W+W plus, in the same spot.
Basically I had the phone on top of the dongle and first attempted to download a file from bbc website while using my compact IV as a modem and got average of around 40-60 kbps
I then ran the same download using the dongle, in the same spot and was getting 150-250 kbps
I tryed again with the compact IV connected using WMWifi Router and getting the same 40-60 kbps
Gonna test my Sim in a modem on friday make double sure its the phone but its a bit annoying getting W+W max through a phone that is meant to handle 7.2HSDPA but only getting 25% of the speed of a dongle that can only do upto 3.6
Anyone else noticed slower speeds when using the diamond as a modem?
Thanks
Damian
So with t-mobile's recent upgrade to HSPA+ this is bothering me more than ever. Am I the only one that has to run multiple speed tests to get it to switch to the faster network? I clearly have the signal to get the faster speeds, but I have to run a single speed test first to get it to "switch", and then on the next speed test I get the faster speeds. Is this normal?
Secondly, what's everyone's latency? I always have MUCH higher latency than any of the other speed tests I've seen. I average about 150 on the upgraded network, and about 300 on the other one.
If anyone is in Seattle, what kind of latency do you get on speed tests (tethered or not)?
