Who are interested to see Linux also on this device?
The process should be very similar to Hermes implementation, so we can follow their steps.
Interesting

answering myself: yes it is, which means that I am in! I would love to help with the investigation for getting linux on this device. Looks like the new haret (01/01/2007) works well on trinity. I have successfully telnetted to it and executed several different commands.

Register a machine number for it.
Are the trinity internals known as good as the Hermes ?

What do you mean by Register a machine number? where do I do this? As far as I know, the internals are pretty well known. We have pictures that identifies all the relevant chips, and schematics for a lot of the chipset.

It is in one (or more) of the threads in the trinity forum here at xdadevelopers. I do not have the direct links here, but have seen them recently. it is most likely in oone of the "GPS or not GPS" threads.
I have now registered the HTC Trinity/P3600
Very
interesting

How is the state of art in porting linux on this device?
And on Hermes? Does the kernel boot?
With wm6 do you have to hard reset every time you try to boot the kernel?
Maybe Pof can answer these questions.
Thanks
@renatostore: cr2 and Kevin2 are the guys working on it, come into #htc-linux at freenode irc network.
On hermes the kernel boots, and we can load a minimal initrd using haret. On trinity i haven't checked lastly.
You don't need to hard reset afer booting linux, that was only on WM2003
Hi
How about linux on trinity? i've been on the irc channel but didn't get any answer... a few months passed... i'm in hope!
I don't have high hope on that. Heard it's very difficult to debug stuff in Linux due to the lack of a hardware kb....
why do you want linux on this phone? you are not going to be able to cross-compile apps over and I don't see a useful app in linux that wm6 doesn't have already for a phone.
Hi...
Still interested...
Had someexperience with h36xx and h38xx/h39xx series HP/Compaq PDA's and familiar linux, and it would be very cool to have some of this running on the HTC hardware too...
Anyone already had a ROM cooked up with kernel/basic apps?
Any idea what will/does work and what won't/doesn't? like phone, camera, wifi, gprs, bluetooth, ...
Thanks!

Check the hermes wiki.
trinity is the hermes without keyboard, minor differences are unimportant
The future of Linux on PDAs is Andromeda. Don't expect this to be implemented on existing devices - Andromeda will be a means to deliver new devices to the market.
While you will most likely need a new phone for Andromeda, you will gain a complete platform with stylish and working applications, so you will be able to actually use the device right from the start.
Have fun!
When a rom like this will be available, and will it ever be available?
Does anyone here have certified information by HTC?
Of course beside the "facts" writen in Wiki page about 5th of the month...
Nadavi.
yes- and where would we download this ROM? When will the P3600 ship with this already loaded for us nuffies who dont want to brick the pda/phone?
Now if only the phone had a fm radio as well...
With Windows Mobile 6 (I heard Crossbow is going to be sixth WM) just around the corner, I hope HTC stuff that into the next ROM, along with the GPS, possible FM radio and better-use of the ATI chip.
could i get xbox360 emulator for the Trinity ??
ROTFL
I am told the new ROM will increase available memory to 1GB so that Vista can be installed on the Trinity.

ROTFL You don't have the xbox360 ROM on your trinity yet? I already run the xbox 720 ROM, Windows Vista 2012 and the latest ATI 3D HD SUPERFLUXCONUCTOR GPU on mine. But now the phone itself is no longer working :-(

Would you guys quit posting threads with subjects like this?
I mean, how would you like it if I started posting threads called "AMAZING NEW WAY TO DOUBLE BATTERY LIFE?" and inside it was "Hay guys, any ideas how to do this?"
Just give it another week and we'll have our damn GPS.
Well, assuming that HTC is REALLY going to post new ROMs, and assuming that HTC is REALLY going to enable GPS support in the new ROM.
Btw, any chance of getting them to enable the FM Radio while they are still in the generous mood?

Sorry... I forgot to tell that the test is made in Paris, France (French language web site)
But, there is no details about the ROM... However, they mentionned that the tested ROM, includes a test version of TomTom Navigator.
The article, mainly compare the performances between the Glofiish X500 and HTC P3600 GPS devices (see the pictures of article 2).

Did you hard spl or sspl? i curious if other people who originally could use tomtom can't reinstall once their spl changes. (i could experiment with mine, but i'm waiting until i have a reason to "fix what ain't broke")
I ran into this as well. When looking inside the .cab, it seems that there are specific models listed in the security file. I think it could be that the name of the device identifier was changed so the cingular branded version could not install the .cab
just my guess...

I used Pof's Hard SPL to load the HTC ROM.
To test, I installed the Hard SPL on my 4550 and the Kaiser OEM TomTom still works. I did not try to reinstall mind you, just see if it still worked.

The TomTom "Taster" version pulled from some Kaisers that has been posted on the site will not install as of now on the Tilt, but any other standard version of Tomtom will work fine on it.

Thanks for the update. But when you say "will work fine" did you actually try it or is it an assumption?
The link I've posted for RK is the latest 6.03 regular install not the taster version. So let's see whether he can get it going.

Meaning that by installing HardSPL prevents the installation?
In that case, no. I tried installing it on the stock ATT ROM prior to HardSPL with the same results.
As the error states, it's the device ID that seems to be at issue. Narrowing down exactly what TomTom is looking for and "adjusting" it accordingly certainlly seems to be the solution.

I already had the maps that I bought a year ago.
I'm trying to give TomTom some love since I can't get my Garmin Mobile XT to work with the onboard GPS, but I can't get a map to try it out. Site is still down. Not very good timing on their part. If I can't get a test map in the next few days, I'll be looking elsewhere.
ok, so the 6.03 installs on the Tilt, but doesnt really mean anything because it doesnt read internal GPS, and I tried the 6.032 version, but of course it tells me to "update ROM" (thanks AT&T and/or TomTom)...does anyone have the 6.032 version that isnt restricted and will install on the Tilt? I looked around and doesnt look like anyone has posted it...
cabinet files would be especially helpful (if they exist for 6.032)
Dear all,
I have a Window Mobile 6 full version, I wonder, could I install it on Xda IIi like on desktop OS? Needn't new WM6 ROM for XDA IIi?
As has been stated to its death there is NO WM6 ROM for the Alpine. Wish there was but there isn't.
WM6 ROM
As Dee Dee said, there is no WM6 ROM that will work with the Alpine. Apparently it is an issue with the processor as I have read on forums on XDA Developers and other sites.
I live and wait so I can use my Alpine again....
Mine isn't dead, far from it. i have one piece of software that won't run on WM5. Well the latest version will but the version i paid for won't and as it does all i need it to in its current version i see no need to upgrade either the software or the XDA.
Yes i do have a WM5, soon to be WM6, Trinity, but the Alpine just keeps on going.
