What I want is
Now i've to take 3 or 4 steps before I can start making a text message.
Is there a possiblility to define a hard button that goes directly to "writing new message"
I've got a program where you can define the hard buttons but not "writing new message" When I define the left buttton for Messages, I still have to take 2 steps before I can start writing a new text message.
Who has a solutions for this?
It really would be great and for sure makes the tytn II even better!
Kind regards
Robert
Tell me about it! I keep hitting the delete button by mistake because I'm used to that from WM5. If anyone finds a solution (pref without installing another SMS program) that'd be great!
Only stupid stupid stupid MS would make you take 3 steps in order to start a new sms.
First of all, why would they replace the "new" softkey with "delete"... whats the point? ESPECIALLY IF CAN HOLD DOWN THE LETTER "D" TO DELETE!!!
2nd of all, why isnt there a shortcut for "New" (hold down "N"), just like there are shortcuts for pretty much every other action (forward, reply, reply to all, delete, etc, etc).
Do they have something against creating new messages??
Yes, its annoying and doesnt make sense... but my real question is WHICH mouronic programmer made these backwards decisions??!?!?!?!
If you install the threaded SMS app, it makes the left soft key be a "new SMS" by default I believe. Otherwise, there's got to be a way to make a shortcut that could be assigned to a button. But I don't know how.
This was one of the first things I had to change when my Kaiser came in.
Here's how I did it...
Download the attached file, unzip and put it in the Windows folder on your Kaiser. From there you can select it (it will show up as New SMS) to be assigned to a hard button in the Buttons setting menu.
Or you can change one of the softkeys to open a new message window by changing the registry yourself or doing it through a freeware prog. I use Remapsoftkeys. It can be found at http://oldsap.blogspot.com/2006/11/remapsoftkeys-freeware-pocketpc.html if you scroll down a bit.
Hope this helps you guys.
Great. Thank you Roameo!
Anyway possible to acutally asign "New Tx Msg" to the left softkey in Messaging?
AE Button Plus
Yeh, i try avoiding using AE as much as i can.
Didnt have some great exeriences with it.
Though it has been a while. Maybe i outta give it another chance
The perfect choice is SBSH iLauncher. It allows you to create menus assigned to the soft keys. For example: In today screen I've got in left softkey a menu to call my favourites contacts and on the right softkey to start new sms to them...
It has much more utilities too...
I'm using this cpl file with the New SMS shortcut.

Think people are getting confused with being able to assign New SMS to a softkey on the today screen, and this in the messaging screen.
no luck
Can't get the "new sms" shortcut to work.. It won't appear in the buttons settings, so I can't assigne it..
I followed the steps (unzip the file into de device's windows folder) but no luck..
I have a unbraded, unlocked portuguese version of the kaiser but I don't think it has anything to with it..
Any thoughts?
Thanks..
there is a easier softkey changer app than the one listed about. I dont like the one above since you have to go through all that crap just to change the key here is a simple app that does just the same but with less effort.
New SMS Shortcut: How To
Create a shortcut exactly as follows:
Windows\tmail.exe -service "SMS" -to ""
The easiest way is if you have something like Resco File Explorer:
Find a shortcut; anything from Windows\Start Menu will do. Copy it. Rename it "New SMS", Open the properties tab for the shortcut in Resco, and type the above in.
If you put a copy in Windows\Start Menu\Programs you can map it to a hardware button.
Regards,
Steve
Just for my own curiosity... is "new message" the way you guys normally create a new text message? I haven't really done much txt'ing until the past couple of months, and this is my first WM Pro phone (previous was a smartphone edition), so I'm probably just missing something. But to me, it seems far simpler (fewer steps) to initiate a new message by going to the contacts first, then selecting new txt msg, rathing than initiating a new txt message, then search for the recipient from there.

Thks for the help, but I finaly got it to work with AEButton.. Just copied the "new sms" shortcut provided by roameo into the windows folder, then mapped a double click on the message button to an aplication. Browsed the windows folder and assinged it to the shortcut. This way, when I double press the message button I get the new sms screen and I still have both softkeys free to other functions. Handy
I find AEButton really helpfull as I can assigne single, double, triple or long presses to any button to perform diferent tasks..
Offtopic - I just checked your work. Really awsome!! That's something I wouldn't expect to see for about 5 years.. You must have alot of fun at work lol Very impressive, congrats!

I use txt msg for about 10 years and in the early days (with my good old Nokia 8210), this was the only way to send an SMS.You couldn't pick a contact and then choose to send an SMS. You had to go to the new sms screen, type the message, and then choose the recepient. So I'm used to send an SMS this way.
Before my brand new Kaiser, I had a Nokia N80 and I could send sms the way you do, but never really got used to it..
Anyway, wathever suits you better..

hmm.. i am able to remove text close to the icon - like new sms, mms, ..., i can move each "new menu" on different position (there is x,y position in registry). then i am sure, there is some solution, how to eliminate some of items in "new menu"

What do you mean mapped to messaging button?
Do you mean the letter icon on the keypad next to the windows key.
How did you do that if so?
Just select HTC Action Screen from the buttons app in settings....
1- its not assigned to right soft key. I have to start it from Programs menu.
2- When opened, if you dont do anything for 3 seconds it exits the application. Im not sure if this is an error or a cool feature.

Ok, thanks.
nevertheless you can easily localize it by going to HKLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen
and modifying the "Name" value under each APP_x subkey.
soft-reset, then it's done.
the only non-working stuff is the message on top of the screen (see screenshot on page 1 of the thread) wich must be contained in the .mui file.
Before I install this tonight, can I have 1 quick confirmation please?
When this software assigns itself to the "right soft key", is this the ACTUAL Messaging Key? Or does it override the default Calendar Softkey?
It doesn't assign to either...

It would be cool if we could assign it to the actual Messaging button on the d-pad as we already have a tab on the home screen to access our messages.
Hi guys,
I've finally came up with a piece of software that will enable you to view up to 6 calendar events on one page. This software was done to counter the lack of calendar events shown on the first page of TouchFlo3D.
Updates: QuickCal v1.2
Fixes/improvements:
>Smaller filesize ~300kb
>Added Tasks page to show incomplete tasks
>Does not show "done" appointments from today
>Added quick menu to access pocketOutlook Calendar/Tasks
>Design change, to suit TF3D
>All in a *.cab installation package
Bugs/Glitches
>Uses up about 2MB+ memory while running
>Skips some full-day appointments
As for the problems stated above, I need you guys to evaluate for me. There were some full-day appointments that the app missed. These are really old recurring ones. When I create a new similar appointment, it works. I have no idea about this behavior, but I'm trying to find out.
As for the 2MB memory usage in the background, I'll need an expert on this. Don't know how to reduce this. It doesn't bother me though.
Here are the screens:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",

}
You can download it from below!
Remember, do post your comments/bugs!
Thanks!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
version 1.1
Here's a screenshot:
The design has been matched to the Diamond's and is specifically coded for VGA devices only. It's been tested on the Diamond, of course
The Exit button does not close the app, but it minimises it. It's recommended to leave the software running in the background, so as to have quick access the next time you invoke it. The page will refresh each time you view it, so you're assured of latest appointments upfront.
Like I mentioned above, this app takes quite a while to load (abt 5secs++) if run fresh. It's my first PPC coding attempt, so perhaps it's not optimised yet
You can download the app below. Simple installation instructions are included. You'll need .Net CF. Tested on v3.5.
Lastly, it's a freeware ..and do post your comments.
Cheers!
Beautiful and very useful.
Could you make the Exit button match the phone buttons on the Diamond, please (the red gradient)?
Hi!
Nice job.
Request:
- Can apts made to be scrolled like other lists in Diamond? With my finger?
- Can we include Tasks/ToDo lists from Outlook Mobile? Eg: on another tab? I really miss this one!
- I guess there is no option to incorporate it into TF3D. No plugin structure...
Keep up!

I already have a matching Exit button, but the problem is, I can't get the rollOver effects done. The image does not change. (I have both ON/Off images), so after quite a while of trying, I decided to release it as such and work on it later on.

My goal is to make the app fade/scroll in like HTC's SIP selector... but that's kinda far-fech for a newbie PPC programmer like me. I'll pursue for answers in time to come.
Task lists? I might be able to get those on on another tab or something. I seldom use the task feature, so left that out for now.
TF3D seems to be 1 whole complete application with no external access for now. I wish it could be incorporated into TF3D
Experts, if U guys can help me out in the requests, it'll be good. Also, I wanna know how to optimize the code.
Thanks guys for the comments and keep'em coming!
Please note that the program's icon is not transparent, it has a black background...
I have to say I really like the program. Once the 3 remaining isuues are solved, it will be really great. As a reminder, these are:
Faster loading time
Matching red Exit button
Including ToDo's
Thank you for your effort
Oops! I see a bug. For some reason, I get appointments displayed, but NOT the next ones! It jumps quite a few. Could you please check that out? Make sure all day events don't cause you problems...
instead of that huge exit button (which makes you think your TD will explode when it's pressed), why not putting "exit" on the right side of "about" ?
Good job!! Thanks!!
Suggestions:
1. Show month and date. Now I only see the date.
2. Scroll bar perhaps?
3. Black background, for fitting the whole HTC Diamond outlook.
4. Intergrate into the TouchFlo 3D (perhaps too technical requested )?
A beautiful application!!

It's called WkTask. Great task manager.
You can view your calendar items on your default calendar, but there's no quick view to tell you what are your next x appointments.
Thank you, I just tried that task manager it's great, but I think I'll stay with the original one which is more simple

Erm, I wouldn't advice replacing the WM6 calendar with this app. This app is just a viewer, nothing else. The WM6 calendar is the real thing which allow you to add/edit/del appointments.
If youre talking about changing the Calendar link on the TF3D screen to this app, I'm not sure how yet.

Don't worry. You have to make a choice.
I appreciate your hard work and like the idea, but MAN your design is ugly.
Thanks to a few people in my FSD Call Capturer thread, I've started thinking about a possible SMS interceptor with a more finger freindly design. I've already got the hard part coded (as in, I can capture the SMS messages) but I have no graphics talent of my own, and I'm not that inventive, so, who wants to give me some ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Source code is in post 41 and post 42.
Id like to see a Full screen contact photo with incoming SMS. Thanks!
Hi L3v5y,
1) if it's posisble disable the system notification.
2) Make an apps who show the sms and 2 or 3 button (Reply, Delete, Close).
I think it's a good idea but you are the dev..
ok here is what i would try to do if i knew how 2
1.Have a pic of the contact shown on the left side of the screen next to the number it came from
2. a scrollable box to show the message received
3. a empty text box at the bottom for quickreply
4. button for dismiss/delete(When clicked would ask if you wish to delete)
5.Button from full reply(in case you want to add pics or clipart)
have it time out after 10 or so sec of screen not being touched
see drawing for a very ruff image of what i'm picturing(keep in mind i'm no graphic artist and did this in about 2min at work using MS paint)
Something like this...?

Sorry for my english....
Maybe a combination of Osevens and Grondinms ideas? As in you tap a button to go to the reply screen.
Unfortunately, transperency is difficult to achieve without serious processor usage (that, and I don't know how!)
So, I could do something like that, but it draws a backgound image (customisable, of course) and then has the message icon infront with text. Then, have two or three buttons (reply, delete, mark as read etc) and an auto close function. If the reply is pressed, a screen like Grondinms pops up (although bare in mind there would have to be space for the SIP)
You can disable the SMS notifications under Start->settings->Sounds and Notifiactions, but I could maybe do a config app for that...

I want to assign a button to open the above Volume applet. How do I access it? I looked under "Buttons" and scrolled through the list of "Assign a Program" listings, but couldn't find anything resembling the Volume application.
I know there are some other ring/vibrate applications. I've heard that some of them don't work so well on an AT&T Tilt with wm6.0. Anyway, I'd just like to access this volume option with a button press.
Thanks...
I'd also like to know this.
You might want to check out SetVolume. I have it set to the PTT button on my WM6.1 Tilt, and it works perfectly every time. The best part is, it works with the system volume, so whatever changes you make with SetVolume are reflected in the system volume tab, and vice versa. I guess in a round about way it's exactly what you wanted.
Check it out here, if you haven't already seen it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395695
Thanks, that does look like a good solution, but I really want to activate the original Voice application that comes with the AT&T Tilt with wm6.0. I want to press a button and have the Volume app open up.
A friend has a 8125 and he can open the Volume applet by moving a slider down on the outside of the case. I looked in Settings -> Buttons on his 8125 and he has a link to Comm Manager, but the sliding button on the phone does not seem to be there. There are no buttons with an app like Voice associated with them.
I'd like to hunt down the .exe file for the Voice applet and write a .lnk file to start it up, but I can't find it. I'm also having trouble getting the file extensions to show up in the wm6.0 File Explorer. I can get all files to show by clicking on the "Show All Files" menu item, but I can't figure out how to get the file extensions to show up. Some files are easy to tell by their icon, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get the extensions to show up somehow.
I'm assuming you have a Tilt, correct? I may be misunderstanding you, but you want to be able to control the volume via a hardware button?
I'm asking because that's what I meant by setvolume. I activate it via my ptt button, and I can them use my scroll wheel to change either system volume or call volume.
Sorry if I'm not getting you. Just trying to help out.

I want to be able to control the volume with the volume control that's already on the phone. See the image in post #1 of this thread. I want to press a button on the phone and have the volume control in the image I posted in message #1 of this thread pop up.

It's a little executable that does exactly what wanted. There's no install... just unzip WisVol.exe, then use ActiveSync to Explore, and copy WisVol.exe your Tilt (I put it in a folder where I keep such utility programs: \Program Files\Utils\ ). Then you can make a shortcut to wherever you put the .exe. Run it, and it opens the volume controls, just like you wanted! It's a useful little app... thanks to whoever wrote it!

Thanks for the tip.
I tried this and it works, sometimes. I have my PTT button programmed to use this program, but it doesn't always pop up... sometimes it just flashes, but doesn't stay on top of the screen.
Does it work correctly for you?
Wonderful little program. now I have to ask is there a way to pop open the manilla2D style volume changer? I have used SetVolume, but i prefer the built in volume changer. Thanks!
hello users!
my father has a touch Pro, but he is really struggeling with it. the touchflo 3D is just too difficult to even make a simple call. (you have to go to home menu and then click keypad or something)
is there a shell (like spb shell) where you have a simple menu with contact, call now, email, internet etc? so u can quickly see what to choose? i know spb shell but are there more of these kind of shells?
thanks in advance ^^
You could always disable touchflo 3d.

So pressing the "green" key is too complex?
green key brings up a list of people you called and have called you... does not bring up a keypad to simply call people for as far i can remember. for people who aren't in your adress book. i'll check it tomorrow. and disabling touchflo 3D doesn't really make stuff simpler, windows thing sucks big time!
What I do is use rlToday. rlToday is a today screen plugin that is completely customizable using XML code, which can be setup to look and display just about anything.
http://rotlaus-software.de/projects/rltoday/
Not everyone is XML savvy but luckily it supports themes from other users (which can be edited to your liking). I normally use Custom roms that exclude the default shell all together, or simply disable it in favor of rlToday.
There are TONS of user made skins ranging from various complexities. I favor simplistic approaches. My theme has a large digital clock toward the top, displays the date in a smaller bold font as well with the Carrier name when service is available. At the bottom I used a finger-friendly simple button graphic that is repeated 4 times along the bottom to act as quick shortcuts. The 4 graphics is SMS, Email, Missed Calls, and VM... each with a simple numeric counter that displays the amount of each. Each finger-friendly graphic acts as a shortcut to their respective programs.
Simply copy this folder into the rlToday install directory (\Program Files\rlToday\). Then on the main screen, tap and hold for a popup menu which has Options. There is a Skin tab which contains a dropdown box which should now list "Diamond". Selecting this and exiting the config app will show it now being displayed as the homescreen.
You can also customize my theme to include more buttons for such as your browser. The code is already in place, you would just have to copy the code for a button, duplicate it, and manipulate a few things such as the name displayed and the location of the program launched.

Pressing the Green key does bring up the dialer pad making it easy to make a call.

no it brings the keypad
now nobody claimed WM is the easiest thing to use
nobody forced anybody BUYING WM either
better get your father a (simple) Nokia
The green button brings up the number pad. From there you can start dialing a number or type a name using the keypad which will bring up the best matches.
I actually LOVE this feature. You really only need to press 2-3 buttons to get to any contact on your phone.
Anyway, it sounds like a Windows Media phone was a poor choice and may be a bit complex for your father. I still stand by my logic that using rlToday as a homescreen is the best choice as you can put exactly what your father requires.

More like a Jitterbug
To make a simple call, just press the 'send' key at the bottom left. . goes straight to a regular-ass keypad.
edit: sorry. . already mentioned earlier. . I don't have a 'green' key tho
....
F it!! Just get him a Jitterbug.
(I was looking for their theme song as a ring tone for my dad... but then my dad died so I have nobody to use that on)
The key isn't green! Its a white phone, not a green one.
Maybe the Sprint versions have a green phone button.
You bloody idiot, it is the sme damn button.
OK this whole thread needs closing.
It is white on Sprint and green on Verizon, not sure about GSM. Either way it does bring up the phone keypad.
It really is not all that complex, he just needs someone to explain some of the easy functions to him. If that is not good enough he really should not be using this device.
there is a learning curve on switching phones.
tf2d is similar to tf3d but a tiny bit simpler
spb products are somehwat easy but u need to pay
home 1 and home 2 is very simple and its free but u can pay for pro
he can even open the phone to the qwerty and type in who he wants to call and done
Good Luck
