Better Alarm/Notifications for Calendar/Tasks? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is there a better alarm/notification program for Calendar events and tasks?
I came from the Palm world and I used Butler which constantly beeped and/or vibrated every minute until you turned the alert off.
I've noticed that I don't hear the alerts the first time and I'm not sure I can keep it constantly beeping yet.

Try AlarmPal and if you want something even more elaborate try PhoneAlarm. Both are from the same publisher
www.pocketmax.net

I second the alarmToday vote.

Bump: Any one else having problems with alarmPal not triggering when another alarm notification is already set?
Such as, I have a v/m waiting and alarmPal will not trigger when I get an outlook email or sms?
Im out.

my phone is lighting up by itself... why?

my phone seems to just pick up random reception while sitting idle on my desk. the phone screen just lights up for no reason and the signal tweaks my computer speakers and makes them make a weird crackling noise. does anyone know how i can remedy this on my AT&T Tilt? help please because it's annoying. it keeps looking like i'm getting a call so i look and then there's nothing. so on a few occasions when my ringer is off and my phone lights up i've ignored calls because this is just irritating. PLEASE HELP! thanks in advance...
The buzzing in the speakers is common to all GSM phones. Some do it more than others (my friends without smartphones seem to be surprised by the sound). I've gotten used to the sound and gotten to the point that I can tell the difference between stray sounds and when a call is coming in.
I'm not sure if I understood your post correctly, but if the screen and keyboard are lighting up at random times - not just when a call is coming in or there's an alarm or you turn it on - then you have something odd going on.
Are you using Xpress Mail? It wakes up the phone when there is an incoming push message. If you turn off push, it doesn't do this.
my phone is lighting up by itself... why?
maybe it fancies a smoke?
lol couldnt resist...
right are you sure any of the email accounts arent set to automatic polling for say every 2 hours, 1 day etc?
^^^^ haha very funny lol well anyways, i don't have push set up nor do i have any alarms set up. i really don't know what the hell is going on. sometimes it even messes with my computer speakers as if there is a call or text coming in... i don't know what in the hell is going on. it was doing that originally then it stopped after installing a bunch of programs on the phone. then i did some spring cleaning and got rid of things i wasn't using and then this crap started up again... maybe it's aliens lol
^^lol aliens picking up reception on your phone!
but seriously.... my hermes was doing that too a couple days ago, but i havent seen it do it ever since.
i dont even have xpress mail set up, nor do i have it installed. the only thing i can think of is i have a reminder on my calender that shows up on the today screen.... but i doubt that's the problem
anybody figure it out? for future annoyances, tho im glad i havent seen it do that anymore
I think it may be possesed, may need to call in an exorcist
I'm experience that too..I'm suspecting that someonne try to discover bluetooth device in range and this wake-up my device...
Two things I would check
1
Are there any apps running before and;or after the wake-up, in particular Active Sync.
2.
Are you in a band swapping area. If so try (temporarily at least) setting to GSM only.
Also, ensure any apps that use a data connection are not set to poll automatically. eg weather, news etc etc

Phone randomly silences itself, why?

My phone has been silencing itself randomly for some reason. I'll leave the phone for a while, and come back to it and have missed calls, sms, etc. and don't even know it because the phone has been silenced. I have had this problem on the last two roms from dutty. I always hard reset after flash. I do not have any programs set to silence my phone at certain times of the day, as this happens randomly.
Today before a class I had closed out a program and was just looking at the home screen and watched the sound/volume icon at the top just switch by itself to mute!
This is driving me nuts, I can't figure out why! Please help!
Thanks in advance.
I can't help ya, but it's happening to me as well...
Similar thing here. Had that happen on Dutty's. On LCS now, and instead the sound level from Microsoft Voice randomly goes off entirely so I can't here it confirm my request...really annoying
this happens to me sometimes when i switch the vibrate function on and off, and im using the AT&T Rom too
Same here...
Same thing has been happening to me since I switched to Dutty's ROMS. Could it be because of the new HTC Home plugins?
I remember seeing that it you are BUSY (outlook schedule) that the phone will silence itself if you have that in your settings.
I have also seen this happen with voice talk - where it misunderstands what you told it to do ("Call Tom Smith" and it thinks that you said silence the phone or something like that )
My best guess would be the first thing I suggested - are you using schedules on your phone?
Bill
In my case, it usually doesn't drop the volume itself to zero, but sometimes when switching from mute to normal volume, the phone soundbar remains at zero.
Simularities were reported over here.
This generally happens when you have selected automatic ringer setting in HTC Home
I don't have the automatic ringer setting set.
Yes, I am having the exact same problem as in that other thread.
I guess this thread can be closed and moved on to:

Questions about Standby and Alarms...

Is there any way to receive notifications for SMS, etc. while in standby? I've found that the phone does indeed ring, but does not give me any indication I've received a new SMS when in standby.
Also, despite the fact that the alarm is set to "repeat" notification, I only get a single ring. I don't mind using a third-party alarm program, but that seems to be a stupid issue to have.
I've read a ton of information on these forums the last couple of days and really appreciate what you guys have done-- it's made my first few days with the Tilt fantastic and this phone is now worth using (God the default Today screen has an awful interface)!
I believe PhoneAlarm (€18.50) will achieve this effect, but I use SPB Phone Suite ($19.95/€13.50) which I bought specifically because of this feature when I had a Hermes and just naturally re-installed it when I got a Kaiser.
Trial of phone suite here - http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/phonesuite/?en
There is a Beta of Phone Suite 1.3 available here - http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=70
Trial of Phone Alarm here - http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
There is almost certainly more than just these two applications with this feature, but these are the only two that I have tried.
And it does seem like an annoyance. I couldn't figure out the WM6 repeat option, but came to the conclusion that the "Repeat" option was more to do with whether the music would repeat (ie you select a 2 second sound, but people ring for 30 seconds so you want it to repeat until they give up or go to voicemail) rather than notifying you of a missed whatever.
Hope that helps

Alert sounds keep turning off by themselves

I have email and text messages set to play a tone, vibrate and display an on screen message, but since Monday these keep getting turned off somehow. However, the ringer is unaffected. This is very annoying as it's causing me to miss work emails. Any ideas on this? I've so far been unable to track down the cause.
I'm running the newest L26 ROM, and haven't installed anything recently.
Have you by any chanced tried the new Opera 9.5 beta? It has a bug that does exactly that, turns off all the notifications everytime you launch it....
Actually, yes, I completely forgot about that. Thanks a lot... I was missing important SNMP alerts.

Phone not waking up to email

Hi,
I've tried searching the forums but couldn't find an answer to my problem - and that is, whenever i receive an email (i've setup my gmail account), and the phone is on standby mode, the phone fails to wake up to notify me (and only does so once i turn the phone back on). So is there any way for my gmail emails to get pushed into my inbox, rather than having to refresh? There is no issue with the similar SMS problem, though.
Any recommendations guys? Any help would be great!
Same here...
Would really like to see the solution!
what rom are you using with this issue?
My Diamond has hardly ever notified me of new retrieved pulled emails till I wake it up and see it connected, it works one in whilte.
The rom...
Standard UK Orange rom for me...
Standard O2 ROM for me (1.93)
anyone...?
have you set your alerts in sounds->advanced? maybe try to add vibrate as well as alert.
emails are stored server-side and not sent to your phone. You get them by asking the server. Since wifi and applications are disabled during sleep mode, no, this won't work.
It is however possible if you pay for a push-mail provider. But regular pop/smtp won't do the trick. (or a cooked rom which is capable of reactivating wifi while on sleep and triggering the server once in a while (I doubt anyone could do this, it is actually possible, but probably not due to the hardware restrictions we have), but hey, this would cost you a lot of money, even if you don't receive any mails).
edit: after a little search, there is apparently some free mail provider that seem to provide free push-mail, including hotmail. Search free push mail on google.
Using Advanced Config 3.2 you can enable Wi-Fi while in Standby mode....
you need to reg edit the following two items:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Timeouts]
"BattResumingSuspendTimeout"=1
"ACResumingSuspendTimeout"=1
by default they are set to 1 on my dimond. i think 1 represents the time an app is allowed to try to start during sleep. one for when on battery and one for when on charger. i changed mine to 15 and now i get evey email notification even while the phone is sleeping. give it a try and let me know your results.
This would drain the battery like hell

i have done this on my phone and it has had no noticeable effect on battery life. my touch had these reg edits set at 15 from stock. i guess i should point out i am using the CDMA version of these phones.
O2 forwards all my Emails to my Diamond via MMS.
Most of the time it did NOT receive those MMS until i woke it up from standby (pushing the button on top to turn on the display). Then a load of MMS came to my inbox.
So i set both values on my Diamond to 15 and it looks like it helped this problem.
NOW the MMSs come in even with Diamond in standby (just like i was used to from my HTC Wizard).
And i can NOT see any big difference in battery life after one week of testing those values.
Hi Silence69
I agree with Blazeitup123 you should go to settings - all settings - personal - sounds & notificatios - notifications - event then & set a new email notification (alert).
I have a standard rom & have set my email to be checked every 30 minutes & notify me of new emails with an alert. Ok the screen does not light up but if I am not near it to hear the alert the phone will of gone back to 'standby mode' anyway.
Hope this helps.

Hello!
I can confirm the problem and solution. My mails are fetched from gmail by an umts connection. It takes about 12 seconds when I start a manual Send/Receive until the mails are fetched. If I set the values below 10 I never get my mails since the diamond suspends to early.
Also I have noticed that when the vales are to low I sometimes get just the flashing ring. Apparently it takes another 2-3 seconds to start the audible alert and vibration.
These timeout values are used to terminate background processing which for example is required for mail fetching. If your diamond does not fetch mails when suspended or does not give you an audible notification try to increase the values. Currently I use 20 seconds.
hope this helps
Any news ?
trying this tonight
This works perfectly and solved this issue on my device, thanks.
Just a thankyou to gmvmg/captspaulding1000 as this has solved the exact same problem!
