How to read-out the ROM from the device

Hello everybody,
I use my MDA III in German, which is fine. However I would like to make a ROM backup from the ROM that is in my MDA. Since T-Mobile doesn't offer for downloading the ROM in the device, I'd like to read it out.
If I would change the ROM to WWE and later would need to be able to put the original German back (because of warranty or anything) for that I need to have the German ROM.
Any ideas for how to read this original German ROM out or where to download it from?
Thanks in advance, bye!
U can update it in future by last German ROM.

Well... that wasn't really what was asking for. I now updated my MDA, but I wanted to do a backup of the old ROM before update. However, nobody could answer this question, so now I don't have a backup of the nbf files. Well, actually I don't even care about it any more

The only way I've found is described here

I've used it done an upgrade then reverted back to the rom on the SD Card. You can also then move the backup onto your PC and back to the SD Card using the software described in the above ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/MDAIII/ntrw.exe
Good Luck
Thanks!

How to..make a full bckup on new ROM without problems

Hi guys.. I keep reading your beautiful forum everyday, learning some...
As TheLastOne says, one must do a fresh install after a new ROM upgrading, avoiding the backup to overwrite some file of the old Rom.
My question is... is there a way to restore programs anddevice settings (like buttons config, rings, passwords, network settings etc) withouth making conflicts? I was thinking about a backup software that only saves custom elements.. do anybody know a way to do it? Thanks a lot. :?:
PS I read the post from Happygoat about CABs...is very tricky for me...I hope ther is a easyer solution!!!
There are two programs out there that make decent backups...
1. Sprite Software
2. SunnySoft Backup Manager
Both can be customized to only backup personal data, such as phone number database, etc.
To backup settings, the only way is to make your own cab.
What you do not want to do, is to backup everything, including the registry, and restore it after a ROM upgrade...!
These backups are nice to have if your ROMs stay the same...but if you upgrade/change ROMs, and restore such a backup, your PDA could become unstable. This has to do with the fact that the ROM update uses its resources and registry different, and writes programmes differently.
Hope that clears up things for you.
Thank for clear and fast reply @ HappyGoat..
So I will wait for a definitive "guide" from you about registry and settings CAB saving and try out the softwares u mencioned..by the way those sw save and restore also programs relative registration passwords?
I have made a full backup file on my storage card of my registry with PMH, now I think to do the follow:
1) backup all programs and data with Sprite software on sd card
2) upgrade to new rom and hard reset the device
3) reinstall PMH and restore registry
4) reinstall Sprite and restore programs and data
5) ... it will be ok ? I hope so because I really don't understand how to follow step 2 from HappyGoat guide
Thanks for pacience.. (TheLastOne...can you give an opinion..?)
Vicer,
Check this below link from Sprite Software for your Sprite backup.
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/answer.aspx?id=66&back=browse.aspx#p24
I can confirm that you can successfully backup after a ROM upgrade and you wont lose any new ROM functionality after restore. I have tried this with various ROM upgrade and it works. Follow the instructions and every thing will be fine. However one thing you should note that when you restore from the old rom and if the program get stuck at one point, then dont feel afraid just soft reset and restore again. Remember that if your restore is finished with out any warnings it means that it is restored perfectly.
I hope this helps and if you need any information then please let me know.
Hemant.
Thanks a lot Hemant..I will try soon!!!
Thanks Hemant, I've been looking for this answer for a long time!
Backing up the rom because of garanty. How to?
My question is: how to backup the entire rom, when we got the device for the first time?
Cause, if the device gets with a problem, and went to the "doctor", the garanty is made (at least where i live), by the original rom.
Someone can help me out?

Unfortunately I had many problems after the restore with Sprite...I reinstalled all from scratch and now is all ok (unless I downgraded radio to 1.10 that is more stable in my opinion) Ref your question... I'm not an expert but I read the wiki everyday...and:
1) follow the getdevicedata procedure to know your original SHIP rom.
2) find on the xda ftp site the one that mactch exactely with your data
3) you dont need more to dump your Rom!! anyway on the forum you can search for "dump rom on sd card" to find the answer to your original question. Hope this helped..byez

I have another, less harsh theory. It's that no one had a useful suggestion for you until HDUBLI came along and offered advice. Or, your problem has been experienced by others and based on reading the forum and a little experimentation on your part, you could have solved it.
Rather than lash out at everyone because they didn't overwhelm you with solutions, you should be thankful these forums exist in the first place.
If you are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the risks and issues associated with ROM flashing, I suggest you stick with what your carrier provided. This is a friendly and sharing forum, but you won't make any friends by bearing unreasonable expectations and criticizing.
Glad your issue was resolved.

I can't get it to work. I flashed succesfully CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe and CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe but afterwards with both ROMS when I try to flash 2.08 Qtek test ROM, it goes nicely all the way to colors screen and then stops with "error [296] upgrade only".
I noticed that SPL stayed 2.17 after both ROMS, is it the reason 2.08 won't go through?
search forum carefuly...you hv to CID Unlock everytime.I hv been doing this...Pls try and post here
Hdubli I bow down to you, you teh guru
I flashed Button's ROM and then ran cid-unlock with aWizard 1.2. After that I succesfully flashed Qtek 2.08 ROM. Thanks for the help, man!

Hdubli,
I have a bit of a similar problem here. I have a Qtek9100 with the ROM Version: 1.1.7.5 ROM date: 09/22/05.
Recently, I upgraded to AKU rom, but I see that this rom is unstable and gives me problems with wifi which used to work flawlessly on my original rom. I just want to go back to the 1.1.7.5 ROM.
In your post, you asked to flash a CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe rom and then CIDunlock and then flash old rom. My question is,
1. is this Custom rom the actual qtek9100 1.1.7.5 Rom ? If yes then I can just do this step.
2. If not, then you said that I need to CID unlock. Would cid unlocking void the warranty.
3. Further, if I cid unlock, do you know where do I find the installer for qtek 1.1.7.5 ROM, dated 9/22/05.
I know lot of questions here, but i would really appreciate any help on these.
Please advise.

Flashing CHT9110 ROM for noob

Hi to all the expert out there,
I just recently owe my very first PDA phone - CHT9110 and yes is from Taiwan, therefore it is all in mandarin (chinese). I've been reading alot about flashing ROM and hearing alot from friend about this as well.
However after such research and reading I still couldnt figure out how exactly I should do it. I hope you guys here can help me out.
From my understanding, to flash a ROM you need to do the following
1 - Unlock SSID
2 - Update Radio
3 - Install the new ROM
Are these steps correct?
My friend told me not to simply flash my phone because if the ROM I used is not compatible then I will get "Invalid Vendor ID" where I have to send it back to the shop I bought to get it fix, is it? Or is there anyway I can fix it myself? He also told me that P3600i ROM is meant for P3600i not CHT9110. If If I wanna flash CHT9110 I have to use CHT9110 ROM, is that true?
I've search around this board and also www but failed to locate any update on this ROM for CHT9110, I would appreciate it if anyone of you can share some thought with me here.
*Note that I have to get a clear picture of what I am doing before flashing it as I wouldn't want to send my phone back to the shop because I'm from other country and it will be troublesome to do so.
Thank a million!

That's sad..
So I just can't use other ROM for other model to do flashing?
Well can this be use anyway
http://www.xanda.org/index.php?page=flashing-rom-or-upgrade-guide
It stated is for P3600i not CHT9110
I know is the same device and spec and everything but for some reason, my friend did it once where he flash CHT9100 with P3600 ROM and ended up getting Invalid Vendor ID.. Therefore I need confirmation to proceed or at least what can be done when I get the error..
Thank alot..
