I don't really use the camera on my Kaiser, but I've just notice that on pushing the camera button it does not start up. No problem selecting from the program list.
Check that the button was set up correctly in the settings screen. I then changed the button to operate another program, but that doesn't work either. Somethings up with the button itself. I do get the "audio click" confirming the button has been pressed but nothing else.
Any ideas?

From what you say it sounds like you are well aware of how that switch works and that it has two levels of operation (half press and full press). With full press - required to start the camera, it really is a deep press, going down below casing level.
I assume though you know this and have tried pushing in as deep as it will go. It is obviously at least partially working hence the audio sound.
To be honest a hard reset might well fix this and if not the a repair under warranty for a hardware fault could be done.

That's it. It works now. What's the half press for?

Half a press focuses the camera and then a full press takes the picture.
Previous models didn't have auto-focus

Yes indeed, it's also configurable in settings so you can change the half and full press behaviour.

Hello,
I got my device two days ago and all seems to work well. However, the hardware button that launches the camera application does not seem to respond when I click on it. Is anyone else experiencing this too? Is tyour camera application launching fine when you click on the camera hardware button found on the side of the device?
Thanks,
Gilbert
Half press or Full press...
The Camera has a setting that turns it on with either a Half press or a Full press of the side button.
It defaults to FULL so if you're at the Today Screen for example, Press it and then press it in MORE. That's the FULL Press.
Once you're in the camera, you can change the setting to turn it on with a HALF press of the button.

That is a lovely feature, How many times I take my Hermes out of the puch when I get a phone call and find that teh camera is on...
then, does the camera button of the kaiser work the same way as a shutter button in a photo camera?.... half press for focus, then it's focused, you can move the subject.... then full press for making photo?
Yes, that's exactly how it works. There is a rectangle in the middle of the screen that turns green when the image is in focus. After that rectangle turns green, push the camera button down further to take the picture! Great feature as long as you have a VERY steady hand, otherwise your picture will turn out blurry.
My camera button is shot and the regular method of accessing the bootloader is impossible for me. Are there any other options for me?
Sorry, no.

Yes, I believe that's what he means. Sputnikk23, do you have Windows Mobile installed or Android? If you have Windows Mobile installed, it can definitely be done. If you're on Android, I'm not so sure.
it was stock rom wm 6.1;
currently installing nfs
I ended up taking it apart to try to fix button; accidentaly broke it off. poked the button out, put it back together and now I just short circuit it.
doing it as per the guide to install android though
hopefully i don't need the camera button for anything essential...

crap... you need it to back out of stuff.. can you change that in android?
i'm in qwerty keylayout in /system/usr/keylayout and i can't figure out what my end key is mapped to. when i press it it blacks out the phone? sometimes comes back by itself, sometimes i have to hit power. just comes back to whatever i had before it blacked.
and what is the left softkey supposed to do? and what is the "home" button? the power key?
and i cannot get win7 to install the usb drivers. implies they are for 64bit when they are clearly not.
I DID IT! I remapped the "End" key to "Back" instead of "END CALL".
You can end call with the touch screen, only thing I"m missing is manual sleep which it will do auto in 30 secs. Anyone know of a widget I can put on home screen to do it manually?
Also, shouldn't SOME key take me instantly back to home screen?
If anyone needs instructions for layout change - I can write up a tutorial.
key- re-map!
i would love a tutorial! ive been tryin to figure out how to do this for a while!
im running NAND, Myns warm donut
The camera button on my Vogue was sketchy and then finally died. I opened it up and the microswitch had dislodged. I am not great at soldering, but it was an easy fix. I just pushed it back into place, bent the retaining "ears" back around the switch, soldered the ears together to hold it better, and finally just touched the leads to the switch to reflow them. It took much longer to open the phone and put it back together than it did to resolder. It took maybe 30 minutes, start to finish and it was well worth it, IMO.
hey all,
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but the other day I accidentally managed to take a screen cap of my desktop on my phone running xxJPK.
After some experimenting, I noticed that it was the combination of holding BACK and pressing HOME that actually takes the screenshot and stores it in /ScreenCapture on the SD card.
Anyone know if this is a standard feature of the Samsung firmwares? Also, any idea how to CHANGE that combination of keys? Because it's silly; as soon as you touch BACK, you head back to the desktop. You therefore cannot take a screenshot of anything other than the desktop!
Hold down back and then press home. Takes a screenshot (photo click sound) and leaves you where you were. Works perfectly without hassles.

Lol yeah thanks... As I said, I figured out the key combination. However, it doesn't work without hassles. In some applications, pressing BACK instantly executes whatever action BACK is meant to execute. More often than not, this changes the screen that you are attempting to capture.
Example: Handcent SMS. It's impossible to take a screenshot of your Inbox. The instant you press BACK, you are returned to desktop.
Im not able to open the camera app on my HD7 by pressing the camera button.
No matter if its locked or not.
Anyone else having this problem, or am I doing something wrong?

Press fully and hold for about a second until it vibrates. Also, make sure not to put your fingers on the proximity sensor, since if it doesn't detect ambient light it'll think it's inside a bag/pocket and you pressed accidentally, so it won't turn on.
Are you sure you pressed strong enough?
The button is a bit weird. It's a 2-step button and you have to press it to the second step. (I hope you understand what I mean)
Thanks guys. While I found out about the two step button myself (after trying desperately to take a picture ) It seems I never pressed long enough (and probably covered the sensors a couple of times too)
I have a question for though who has the 8.0 version.
I have a situation with the main home button, it may not be a problem, but just the way it was made, when you press the home button whiles in a app, or the second menu, you have to press directly in the center of the button to return to the home page, at first I had to press twice, and I also notice if you press softly on the edge of the button left or right, there is no reaction (the button does produce a click, as the button seem to be pressed).
is this the same with anyone.

I don't have this problem with mine. I suggest you might have a defective device.

The problem is hard to explain properly, but I think it's normal as my friends tablet is the same.
Lets put it this way.
Have you sometime even pressed the hardware home button, knowing you have pressed it with a click noise thinking it registered a press, then you noticed nothing has happened, then you pressed it the second time and this time the press reacted.
This is the situation with me, then I tested the it further and pressed the button slightly to the right or the left, with no reaction, then you press it direct in the middle and all is fine, it also depend on how firmly you press it.
I think the button is made that way especially since it has the finger touch sensor in the button.
i know what you mean. had this problem one time with an s4. the problem is, the button is not exactly placed on the switch inside. if you press not exactly in the middle, it hangs a little bit. If you can change, change it.

I actually think it's normal, and as you say that the press must be in the middle, I'm ok with that, if it's on the side, then that a very good reason to change it, but it's on the middle, what can I ask for.
I'm just curious whether this situation exist with other units, and I will test this out later on today with many of the display units available at all the in store.

NO such issues on t715..lightly pressed the very corners of the home button and it does what it is supposed to (left and right side...using fingers overlapping the main body and button and then just fingernail itself)
works just fine
Thanks for the reply, I actually see various result, may be mine has a glass protector which is seems like you have to press deeper, and I don't want to remove it just to test it.
Any way having to press right at the center is not really a bad idea, and there won't be any accidental press.
If anything is actually wrong, there is the warranty, or I can just change the home button myself, plenty of spare part available to buy in china.
Just need to know the proper way to open the tablet.
I have T710. The Home button works normally. Just press and it goes home.
I have a question for though who has the 9.7 version.
I have a situation with the main home button and the sleep/wake up button, it may not be a problem, but just the way it was made, when you press the home button and the sleep/wake up button while the tablet is locked in the right side some colorful lines apperas for approx. 0,1 s. Can someone help me with this?
