Hello to all
I just upgrated my O2 Xda mini S to the latest K-Jam rom (no network customisations), it now runs much faster that ever and it seems stable enough apart from one problem:
After restoring my messages and contacts using Sunnysoft Backup Manager i cant open my text messages anymore. I can still see them in the inbox as if nothing was wrong, but cant get them to open. If i move them from the inbox i can open them again. but i would rather keep them all there. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
After flashing WM6 to a HTC Artemis i have the same problem. I used PIM Backup version 2.1 for the backup and restore. Rom is PdaViet Black&Blue v2.
Is this a known problem? Can anyone point me to a solution?
Thanx!
I got the same problem when I upgraded from XDA to XDA Release 2. So found it interesting that you are experiencing the same but on a different ROM! So could this be a bug overlooked in the ROMs?
I'm about to downgrade the ROM and see what I come up with on the other side and then try to upgrade again.
not sure...but i think i read somewhere that pim backup can't be restored across roms as well...at least it was a major problem in the days of wm5 when we were playing with aku 3 roms from faria and molski. backups are better throughs syncing with outlook.
try reflashing the original that you backuped from and see if you can restore everything without a problem...
I finnally found a way out. Better to flash back to the original ROM before you try another one. That way, its stable and can restore messages. I still use PIM Backup for my stuff and I think its the best so far, as it can handle my needs.
Hope it helps
Hi.
I have upgraded my phone with htc windows mobile 6.1
I have reinstalled original Sprite backup 5.1 shipped with the phone. I have followed the instructions to restore my latest back up with the added upgrade exe. from sprite site
The first time I tried my phone was frozen for over an hour until I restarted.
Second time reboot with a white and black screen scared the crap out me!
Third attempt phone freezes at my contacts
Any help will be awesome

Wish I had a better answer for you, but when upgrading a ROM, assuming that you've upgraded from WM6.0 to WM6.1, it is not recommended to restore backups or problems such as what you've encountered *WILL* occur.
You will just need to install everything from scratch. Try out Tiermann's TierAutoinstall, Bengalih's SASHIMI or Sleuth255's User Customization for semi-automated installation. Search for it and you will find it!
I was try many software for backup whit my HTC TyTN II whit WM 6.1 like Sprite backup, HTC backup, SPB Backup and another cant remenber.
The only one work fine is the Resco Backup software.

Downgrade back to your original ROM, restore your backup and then sync your PDA with your computer so that your contacts are stored there. Copy off anything else before upgrading back to WM6.1. Once WM6.1 is on, sync with your computer again and contacts, emails, etc will be synced to your PDA. Then start re-installing your apps.
Long and tedious process unfortunately...

Thanks for the tip I just did it before your post and I got back my contacts!
I have a german Kaiser here, removed simlock with the tools from this site.
2 Questions:
After Updating to WM 6.1, will the simlock be still gone, or do I have to unlock the phone again.
Is the update worth it ? Htc tells on their site, that all stored data will be lost (ok i have to do a backup), but will WM 6.1 bring so much improvements that i should take the work ?

Not sure about the Stock HTC ROM, but I am using The Lone Ranger's (TLR 6.1) and love it.. I would do it. BTW the sprite backup will not restore a 6.0 ROM to 6.1 ROM.
So there is no way to backup my data first and restore it to 6.1 ? Then i wont do it, too much calender entrys, contacts, etc. installed.
Edit: Sprite Backup Homepage says that it is possible to restore after a rom upgrade:
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/answer.aspx?id=349&back=search.aspx?
i don't think i've seen anywhere that someone has succesfully restored a back up after upgrading, spb back up has a force restore after rom upgrade but i've never tried it personally, for me i would rather start clean and not risk any file corruption or problems right from the start.
I used a freeware app called PPC Pim Backup, it dosen't update your settings or files like Sprite Backup does, but it does backup all of your contacts, text messages, appointments, just about everything that would sync with outlook and a few things that don't.
I was able to use a backup created when my Tilt was at Wm 6.0 and successfully restore it to after I had reflashed my phone to WM 6.1.
The only downside was the first time I opened my inbox, I had to wait about 10-15 minutes or so for WM 6.1 to thread every single text message I had ever receieved or sent, but after that it worked fine.
Thanks for the tip with pim backup. worked great and the simlock is still gone after the update.
I wish I wouldve known about pim backup before I updated. anybody have a link to the 6.0 rom, so I can go back and start over?

Yes it does, I have restored all my contacts. mails, texts and diary when I went from WM6.0 to WM6.1 using Sprite backup, with no fuss at all.

Weird, mine gave me a black screen, then froze up, you must've been lucky, or something.

How would you restore just data files?
sounds like he only restored files that sync, not reg hacks or system files, settings.
I'm new to this, but I ran Sprite backup on Q-Mobile 1.2, intending to upgrade to a WM 6.1 ROM. I tried a couple of WM 6.1 ROMs (Romeos 4.5.3, Garmin DK.3 Final, Dutty's NO4, and Virtual Vista 2.10), and was able to get my SMS messages, contacts and all that good stuff, but was unable to get my MMS messages.
Since I don't really know what I'm doing, I didn't poke around too much, but when I reloaded the Q-Mobile ROM back on, and ran the Sprite restore program, all of my SMS and MMS messages showed back up. I suppose it has something to do with the SMS/MMS directory structure in the WM 6.1 ROMs that I was trying out, but don't really know.
Just my .02. If someone knows what's going on, I'd be very appreciative if they could clue me in. Thanks
So is everyone talking about the AT&T WM6.1 ROM update from HTC from here:
http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=67&cat=2&dl_id=94
If so, has anyone had any issues with it with how it works? Any issues with the radio, etc? I downloaded but have not upgraded my Tilt yet.
Thanks
Flandrel
Does PIM Backup back up texts generated with the stock 6.1 threaded-text app?
Sounds like a handy little util if so.
I suggest SPB backup. It is available from their website and the trial version has five free runs of backup.
I used it and restored all reg edits, dta, programs, mail, three email a/c's, contacts et al. It would freeze up and not restore *anything* at all the first few times but then I unchecked the 'stop all processes prior to backing up' in the advanced menu dialog before proceeding with the backup and it did the job.
I recommend creating a stand alone restorer so that you don't have to install SPB backup again on the 6.1 rom.
I went from a stock 6.0 unbranded to a stock 6.1 off the HTC website. Waiting on my warranty to legally expire in Feb before I start flashing my phone to other roms.

If it's just calendar and contacts that you are worried about, surely after you synchronize with a laptop or desktop those details will be stored with ms outlook.
So after you do an upgrade, if you synchronize your phone again with laptop/desktop you will get those contacts and calendar entries back again.
Programs and files installed is another story.
hookup activesync, transfer /root/pim.vol to your desktop..
install 6.1 rom..
boot into windows.. rename the current pim.vol (on your phone) to pim1.vol. Transfer the old pim.vol that you saved on your desktop onto your phone.
Reboot to phone to reveal all your contacts and call history restored.. simple and easy.
delete pim1.vol from your phone and bam your done!
YES, the official windows mobile 6.1 kaiser update is very worth updating IMO. Video drivers are much better.. switch views is easy.. moving around is much faster.
JEC
So I am taking it that this upgrade is worth the time to do then? Sounds like stability is better with this upgrade. Hopefully no other issues involved with it. I am still running the stock ROM from AT&T on my phone that came with it with WM6.0.
So upgrade would be good with this then?
Thanks
Flandrel
What is the fastest rom?
hi all,
I'm just getting bored with my WinMo6.0 rom, wanna try some of the exciting WinMo6.1 roms out there, but I don't want to lose any SMS and contacts.
Will the "PIM Backup 2.8" help me backup all my SMS and contacts from my current WinMo6.0 rom and restore them back to the new WinMo6.1 rom (I think i will try the ROMeOS v4.5.3 first)?
thanks in advance!
Yes my friend, it will
it will but if you have so much messages it WON'T
or rather it will but it will get stucked because...
in wm 6 its normal mode and in wm 6.1 its Threaded
so the solution is to disable threaded mode in wm 6.1 before you restore
BTW your phone will run slow after the restore so soft reset.. not by stylus clicks but by powering off device and reboot
