Hi all,
I've got one of the lovely shiny Vario III's and am very happy with it.
I do have one issue though. When I go to Start->Programs, all the programs are listed in what appears to be a random order - possibly by date.
I remember seeing a post somewhere on here about how to change the view mode of the programs folder but I think that might have been a program by someone.
Does anyone know of a way to make it sort the programs by Name?
I'd like to know this too. After using HTCs WM6 on my Vario ii, the Programs folder in the T-Mobile wm6 ROM on my Vario iii is, quite frankly, a mess. I have deleted some unwanted icons from the windows/startmenu folder etc but don't seem to be able to re-order them.
I found VJSmallIconsII after remembering who wrote it. You can get it from his site: http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJSmallIconsII
The only problem is that you have to run it after every soft reset. Change the programs view mode to details, then click the Name column, then change it back to Icons mode.
I would imagine this is something which is stored in the rom and not a reg tweak but I'm going to PM vijay to see if he has a more permanent solution.

Welp I was fixing to pay Cingular $350 to prematurely cancel our contract b/c I was about ready to throw my POS 8125 out the window. Then someone referred me here and I'm cautiously optimistic that my blood pressure will once again be below 250/150.
But after reading through alllll the threads on alllll the roms...I'm a little more confused now than before.
Simply put, which ROM for my 8125 is:
Fastest?
Most Stable?
The custom AKU 2.2 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51047 ) was recommended to me...but now I've gotten lost...
Thanks.
I saw your thread on hofo. This place is 100x cooler and more helpful.
I've had my phone for less than six weeks and read a ton right before buying the phone. As soon as I bought it, I did all of this and haven't had any problems at all.
Get lokiwiz first. I used v0.2b and it worked fine for me. Be sure to take extra time to read the instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796
Select your ROM and perform the upgrade:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/
I selected Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_WWE_CF2_A2DP-fixed.exe from the directory. This is version 2.17 and I haven't had any problems at all. I've been following discussions on newer ROMs and plan to stay where I am for now. You can run this through Activesync and don't even need to establish a partnership. I did my phone, then 3 others all the same way (my wife's and then two for the neighbors) and didn't have a single problem with any of them. Running from the point at which you open the box and start going, this takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour once you do this over and over. I've only done this once per phone but seem to be operating a free upgrade service.
Finally, you'll want to hack the registry.
There are tons of registry hacks here:
http://www.indippc.com/v3/index.php?topic=322.msg2018;topicseen
and here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other

You'll probably want to use Resco explorer and their registry editor. Those are nice because you can try them before buying them and make sure you like them. There are others and I tried Total Commander first, but found the Resco product more effective for importing the .reg files I'd created to help speed up the edits.
Hope this helps!
100Tbps, that's awesome info. Thanks for pointing this out. There are a ton of threads with tons of info scattered through and it's easy to miss something. I remember reading that somebody suggested putting all this info in one thread or post and you seem to have done most of it.
One question, is creating a .reg file for WM5 just as easy as creating it for XP/2K? I would like to put my favorite tweaks in one .reg file and import one file.
Thanks!
Well with such a great reply like that, I'd have to agree that this place is beter than hofo.
Concerning Rosco, do you think that it would be better than SPB Pocket Plus? I only ask b/c I read on hofo that Resco slowed the 8125 down more than SPB....but I've been running SPB and it definately slows down my today screen refresh. Does anyone know anything about this?
Also (I posted this in hofo, but I have yet to get an intelligent reply), how does everyone's video run on their 8125? I'm wondering if something is wrong with mine b/c pretty much everything that I try to play only plays at about 0.5 frame per second but with normal video. For example, navigating to the windows media favorite that comes bundled into the favorites menu while my 8125 is connected via USB to my broadband connection, and then clicking on ANY of the videos (they are either 37kb or 54kb) gives me this problem. It's reallllly annoying as I was hoping to later hook up my 8125 with a slingbox--but if I can't get any videos to play normall...this obviosly won't be feasable. Is this par for the 8125? Or is mine just screwy? And yes, this is after both a fresh factory ROM installation and the new 2.2 beta I just installed. Same problem.
Thanks!

Creating the .reg file is very easy. I used Total Commander on my phone to create the .reg files. When I hacked my wife's phone, I discovered Total Commander didn't recognize the .reg files and that's when I tried Resco's product. Their program registered the .reg files but even better, has an import button. So I placed all my .reg files in one place and one by one went through and imported them. I have just under 20 of them. If I ever get time to figure out how to do this, I'll probably try to condense them into larger .regs or learn how to make a .cab.

I actually don't have the Resco product installed on my phone. When I hacked mine, I used Total Commander for regedits, then used Resco on the three other phones. I actually installed it when I was done, but I'm more than likely going to go back and buy it the next time I need to do this. I haven't tred the SPB product so I can't say.
For videos, this might be a more complex discussion.
If you mean recording videos, there is a thread around here explaining registry hacks to increase the frame rate when recording so it plays back smoother. I thought I had it in my collection but don't see it, but I do recall seeing a discussion about this.
If you mean streaming videos over the net or files placed on the SD card or in memory, it could be one of a few things. You may need to overclock the player to get it to play more effectively (this is 100% a guess), try a different player (I've seen people bow down to TCPMP), or the bitrate may be too much and / or an oversized video. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences about any of these avenues since I've said a bunch without really offering anything concrete. I believe TCPMP is free so that may be the easiest thing to try.
thanks.
I'm actually talking about streaming any video. It's not a bandwidth problem b/c I've tested it while connected to my home broadband over usb. And it's not the server b/c I can turn right aroung and stream the same crappy qualit 37kbs video on my pc and it plays fine. It just seems like the 8125 should be able to handle this w/o any problems...

I use Spb Pocket Plus and I like it a lot. It does slow down the 8125 a bit but I don't think it's any worse than Resco's product, though I don't remember using Resco's. However, SBSH's iLauncher is pretty good. It has a ton of options, much more than Pocket Plus, but Pocket Plus just seems to be a more refined product. You might want to give iLauncher a try.

I am soon to be owner of Cingular 8125, so I am reading every thread I can find on how to improve HTC Wizard.
Could you possibly zip all of .reg files and post them in this thread?
Thanks for your help!

I was going to ask the same thing lol
I divided these into things I think anyone would want (the general folder) and things that may just be personal preference (the personal preference folder). For example, some people may use Hotmail and thus not need to remove it from the list of Inbox options - and not everyone uses Microsoft Voice Command and wouldn't want to change their dialer to something not installed - so these are in the personal preference folder.
These are what I extracted from my phone after I edited them manually (using the 2.17 ROM summiter cooked for us) and created the reg file for my own future use in case I re-flashed. I think it's important to mention newer ROMs may not need some of these because they may already be there because Microsoft (or summiter, the grande provolone of ROM cooking) enabled them - or the registry may be different. So my suggestion is manually verify the path is present before importing to make sure you're actually getting what you want.
Thanks for that
I installed the fixed 2.17 and so far so good...except for one rather big problem--the battery meter no longer works. It just tells me that I always have 100% battery life and the icon at the top taskbar now looks filled in with a single line diagonally across the center. How do I fix this? I also should mention that I'm now using Resco Explorer 2005 5.40...so I don't know if the problem is related to the firmware or Resco.
Any advice? Anyone seen this before?
I have been recently messing about flashing various WM6 ROM's to see which one I might settle on, however I have come across one issue which annoys me so much that I would choose not to go down the WM6 route.
On the phone dialler I now have a bar going across the screen which displays two lines of my contacts. I don't want this. I want the usual phone layout that I have used for the past dozen ROM upgrades.
Is there a way to remove this? I have tried all the settings on the phone but to no avail. Will it dissapear if I re-skin the phone with something from Eten?
What surprises me is that I have not seen anyone else mentioning it on any of the WM6 threads - Does everyone like this new layout?
Vista Dialer
I also found this annoying. I downloaded the following
Jimm98y_vista_dialer.zip
in the development/hacking section. I think it is much better than the old WM5
dialer skin. You can see the screen shots there.
You will probably also need to edit smartskey.ini to allow the dpad to function in the Phone app. With the Underground ROM that was a pain if I remember correctly as it is a system and RO file. I ended up making a cab that created a \Program Files\Smartskeyand copied my smartskey files to that folder. Then stopping smartskey, deleting the shortcut in \Startup and then running Smartskey from the \Program Files folder.
What a PIA! Another reason I went back to the Orwell ROM (after I took the green comm manager with me..)

Thanks Tony. Just done it and it worked a beaut.
Hi, sorry for bothering you here. I might have a too simple question. But it didn't show up on the search.
After installing several programs on my Vario III the sort order of the icons in the program view changed.
In the beginning when I opened start->programs the icons were sorted directories first and therafter in alphabetical order.
Now I have them in a rather curios order: preinstalled programs and thereafter the ones I installed.
How can I fix this?
regards
andilein
Does anyone have an answer for this?
I'm getting the same problem.
hoping somebody has an answer to this, I am having the exact same problem.
there is a fix...
use a registry editor and go to HKCU/software/microsoft/shell/startmenu and delete the key called "Order". The soft reset the device. This should fix it.
Sorted!
Many thanks.
i found this file in trinity forum. it works perfectly. some of it is in french and some of it is in english. can someone help to clean up.
it is the complete cab including ftouchflo, schaps config, and cube all in one cab file. just install and use.
woow, does it work on any Device ??
I installed it, nothing shows up in the today screen. I've tried to play around to make the cube show but nothing happens.
it works on my tilt. to use cube start right above th middle of the bottom task bar and go quickly to the middle of the screen. if this doesn't work then start from one side and go across to the other side quickly.
also configure ftouchflo from 100 timeout to 200 and gesture waiting delay from 10000 to 700 and try the above it will work.
i have an at&t 8525 and tilt it works on both devices.

Nice it work after I configure it.
EDIT: Anyway to change it from Spanish to English?
Yup - works for me too. Nice work.
The language change doesn't bother me so much.. silly question - where to you change the settings though?
EDIT: scrub that, found it in a strange named folder in programs
herramientas = tools

Haha yeah herramientas mean Tools in Spanish.
I had to remove this program because it was messing up with the slide 2 unlock program.
Sensational find, well done
The program works great and has a huge coolness index factor....
I tried to set the photos to open a file in the storage card and would not do it. Is it limited to opening files that are only in the device memory? Can it address files in the sorage card?
Nice program overall.

Well, just un-installed the Spanish version and installed this. Appears to work perfectly, I can't see any problems at the moment. I had to rename the FTouchFlo folder so that the configuration tool would work but other than that this was too easy.
First class work!!
go into config cube and all word editing done from there.

Hi,
just one question: does the TouchFLO CUBE work on the TYTN II ?
I heard that on Tytn II it needs a cooked ROM not just a sw on top of already installe TouchFLO.
Could somebody tell me something ?
Thanks in advance

I cant select the text (that is to use stylus click drag a paragraph of text) to be copy and paste or something like that.......... i cannot select the whole text...maybe u can help me?? this applies in excel, words, messaging, notes, task ...but in appointment i can select a few text.......................also in resco explorer, normally i can click drag and select a few files to multiple delete (and no i dont wanna use the multi seelect, its extra buttons..)
and btw i have added all the above mentioned files intothe config for exclusion of scrolling and stuffs..........so maybe u can help me? thanx alot
I think the touchcube thing is cool, but i would rather it only works on the homescreen, its just annoying anytime else, when trying to do daily activities and you bring up the cube or minimize the program. can this be done?
i hope you guys wont shoot me on the 26th of december. but i cant install this cube cab :]
I have a dutch vario III so instead of the folder "program files" i have the folder
"programmabestanden". I copied all the important folders (config and cube) to "Program Files" but still i get the error: cant find the config file.
I even read the config.txt. file through windows and changed the link also to ..\Program Files\.. but nothing happens.
Can someone help me with this annoying situation?

Hi,
I have two questions regarding my Touch Diamond.
1st) When we look at the program tab we get 2 sections allowing (3x3) 9 shortcuts to a program. I would like to know it this tab can be modified to store more shortcuts
2nd) At HTC.com there is a new ROM update. When I look at my ROM version, it says: 1.37.172.3 NLD (I suppose this is an older version).
I was wondering if installing this update would delete my default programs.
My phone is from Vodafone and has by default certain preinstalled programs installed by Vodafone on it. If I were to lose these programs, I would lose access to certain features that I use
Hope someone can answer this for my.
Cheers!
2) Yeah, unfortunately flashing the ROM will erase all your settings/installed programs.
1) Sorry, I don't know how to answer this one.
2)Yes. With the new ROM, your phone will lose all the installed programs. Contact Vodafone and try to know if they are releasing this update with their programs already instaled.
On the other hand, you can try to save all your programs with an application called "Sashimi" that saves your programs in order to restore them after a ROM upgrade.

Thank for you answers all.
Pretty weird that there is a rom update, but that my service provider does not support this. Iow I am forced to keep the current version.
@ Leopardone: That is great, too bad that when searching these forum on 'Program tab' it gives too much results to accurately find something.

Actually, you can't. What you can do, is add more buttons. Unfortunately, you can't put any link in those which makes the whole procedure rather useless.
I thought there was a registry tweak to add a few. I'll check into it.
EDIT: Nope, above poster is right.
There's a registry tweak around here that shortens the distance between icons and fits more icons to Programs panel. Search for it.
