Strange phone problem... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
I just received my new Kaiser two days ago and I have a problem with the phone application.
Whenever I'm on a call and the screen backlight turns off, after the call the Start button and some of the "upper menu" buttons stop working and the backlight never turns on again. To fix this problem I have to press the power button to turn off the device and turn it on again.
Any ideas?

This has been discussed several times here. It is a bug in the HTC ROM caused by the password protection of the device.
Workaround: either the one that you already discovered yourself, or disable the password.
If you can´t disable the password because it is forced on by your company´s exchange server, there´s is a small utility called "StayUnlock" which disables the lock for you.
Just do a simple search - it´s either here or on www.modaco.com

Worked!!! Thanks a lot... I'm now using Pocket Secure for password protection...

I have no problem with company exchange servers yet i can't seem to find the way to delete the password. help pls. tks

Automatic powerups of Wizard on crossbow

Hi, I have discovered that Direct Push e-mail is causing the wizard to power on at certain intervals and for me at least was causing significant power drains under crossbow. Here are 2 fixes.
1. This is for those that use an exchange server and/or direct push email.
-Locking the device stops the wizard powering on and still allows use of direct push email.
2. Those that don't wish to lock their device and don't use direct push email.
-Change the following Registry values:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\
HeartbeatIncrement DWORD: 0
InitialHeartbeat DWORD: 0
MinHeartbeat DWORD: 0
MaxHeartbeat DWORD: 0
Reset
Hopefully this will work for you guys it did for me, no power on all night.
EDIT: Sorry after longer testing No. 2 appears not to work however I still think it has something to do with Activesync and Direct Push E-mail. The settings reset themselves after soft reset.
It works!
Confirmed. Locking the device via the Today screen plug-in prevents the undesired power ups.
I am using a small program called Device Lock with the Suspend option. I set Button 4(Hold) to Device Lock. Sometimes it wakes up immediately after suspending, but I can press the power button and it stays off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261277
I discovered this yesterday also.
He means using the today screen plugin to lock it, not just having buttons locked except power in case you weren't aware of that.
No wonder I never had this problem. I use batterystatus to lock my screen all the time. Isn't the lock nice? Very convinent. My only hope is if there is anyway to unlock it with one hard button.
Oh. I was using the Lock in the control panel set to lock after 0 minutes of idle so when I pressed power it would power down and lock.
I'll have to find a better way to lock.
it didnt work....

using the batterystatus, not the lock in the control panel.
i meant the regedits, it didnt fix the problem...i dont like to lock my phone when not in my pocket...
i hit the lock button on the today screen and i watch it turn on and off every minute... still... it didn't help ...
I wonder how did faria fix it in his ROM.
any update? wokring solution ?
Faria has the only known solution to this but is refusing to share that knowledge by looks of things, maybe so he can forces users to use his own cooked ROM or something...
the only working solution i have seen was the one rusigor suggested and that was taking the device password off. and im believer because it worked for me. so im sticking with that. Also i noticed that my battery is lasting like alot lot lot lot lot lot lot longer now. before i would go to bed with the phone at 80% battery and when i would wake up it would be like at 30. The last couple nights i would go to bed with it at 59 and woke up and it was at 55. I was shocked. so thats why im sticking with this method.

I hope it's just a case of him not knowing of this thread! Has anyone PM'd him?
I will if no one has yet.

Sorry meant to update this, fix has been around for a little while now.
Untick Turn off backlight for both battery and mains power and this will cure the problem however you may still have automatic power offs.
I don't use push, nor do I have an Exchange server configured. I also had a problem with automatic power-ups. I found that having the device configured to display the owner info screen when it is switched on caused it to power up on its own shortly after it was switched off.
Getting rid of the owner info display on power-up did the trick for me.
I'd love to know how those two things are connected.
I found a solution for me
I also think is more related with the screen light as I used the WM6 MB and i put the screen auto off after 30 sec, and it was waking up very frequently. I completly removed the screen light auto off and now my phone never wakes up alone (just when it should be =D).
Hope it helps!

Vario 3 Freezing

Hey,
I've noticed that after a call the start bar freezes? I can't access it using the hard button or even the touch button.
Has anyone got a fix for this?
Thanks
A short press on thepower button to turn the screen off and another to turn it on again will fix your problem. This has been discusssed previously and the cause is a bug in the HTC ROM when your device is password protectd.
Either turn off your password, or if it has been forced on by your company´s exchange server you can look for a little app called "stayunlock" I believe, which will effectivly prevent the exchange server from enforcing the password.
Don´t have the link handy right now, but this app is floating around somewhere either here or on www.modaco.com
Hope it helps!
Thanks
I think i'll still get a brand new phone from t-mobile hehe... hopefully once the kitchen opens we'll get super roms..!

Screen Issues after phone calls...

Hi, I tries searching for the solution to this by the "symptoms", and nothing came out, sorry to open a new thread for my own doubt but...
Whenever I make a call longer than 30 sec (which is when the screen dims down), after the call ended (either by me or the caller hanging) the screen stays dimmed down, and for some reason the everything in the Start Menu bar (except the task manager) is unresponsive through touch. The rest of my today screen still responds to touch or d pads, both on screen softkeys work. The start menu is only accessible with the default win button.
The only way I have found to correct this is by pressing the power button twice (going to standby and back). It's not a huge deal, but it is somewhat frustrating.
Any ideas or fixes?
Thanks in advance =)
EDIT: I'm using stock rom and HTC Dialer.
btw, anyone else having this issue?
I also have this issue but no solution (or i can't find the solution) till now. I think it is the bug in this ROM version so hope new ROM will solve this issue.
It´s a well known bug that has been discussed many times......
It happens when you´ve set a device password and your screen turns off during a call.
Solution 1:
Don´t set a device password
Solution 2:
When the above happens, turn the screen off and then on again (2 quick pushes on the power button) and you should be back in bussiness.
Solution 3 (the one I´m using):
if your exchange server enforces the password on your device (you can´t easily turn it off): install a small cab called StayUnlock (do a quick search, it´s either here or over at www.modaco.com), which will automatically disable your password everytime it´s enforced by your exchange server.
Thanks Michi! Step 1 did the trick, I don't need a pswd on my device anyways. XD
When your new it's hard to follow up or search and find stuff when there is SO MUCH information in here.
Thanks again =)

I can't turn off screen lock

Hello everyone,
Somehow I have inadvertently set my tilt to lock the screen whenever the screen turns off. I need to disable this, and I can't find a setting. I looked in Kaisertweak, and adjusted settings in settings>system>Key Lock.
I currently have fast sleep and sleep disabled in Kaisertweak, and I have Key Lock set to "do not lock buttons".
Whenever the screen powers off, it enables this mode so that when I turn it back on I have to press the left softkey, which says "Unlock", and then press the Unlock button on the screen.
The worst part is that this is a sudden mystery problem. I went to bed last night with a proper phone, and woke up to this. I've been searching the forums all morning trying to find the answer, but I'm not having any luck.
I'm running Dutty's latest 6.1 build.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Jeff
Okie Dokie, well, I found the problem.
I had inadvertently turned on the "lock on wake" feature of the batterystatus plugin.
I didn't even know that I had this.
Problem solved.
Jeff
thanks man.. I did the exact same thing yesterday and I didn't know how to fix this, until I read your post. I dont' even remembering checking that option in batterystatus. It's kinda weired. But thanks again..
My corporate MS Exchange Server automatically enforced the screen lock security to be used when I connected to the server for the first time. Everytime the phone goes to sleep I have to reenter the password to get access to the device. This is annoying and I would like to disable it somehow. Following the above information I went to the battery options advanced tab and disabled the option "Turn off the device if not used for...".
This seems to stop the lock screen after pushing the pwr buton on and off.
Does anyone know a better way to avoid the screen lock required by MS Exchange Server setting?

Remove Password Screen Always Appearing

Hi there,
Wondering if this is happening for all Diamond2 users or whether my playing around and initial configuration setup for the phone has somehow caused this situation.
When I hold down the Hang-Up/Home key it locks the screen. To enable the screen again I press the first Unlock button on the bottom left and then the Unlock button that pops up to re-enable use of the phone. This is of course normal.
However as my company forces Password protection as part of our Exchange Email policy, a Password is now enabled on the phone. Now holding down the Hang-Up/Home button locks the phone and instantly displays the Password screen (and not the Home screen with any information).
Being a previous Touch Cruise, then Touch Diamond user this has always driven me mad so I install SPB Mobile Shell so whenever I lock the phone it still shows the Home screen with all the information I want to see.
However on the Diamond2 this does not work and any locking of the phone simply displays the Password screen and no information. All I can do is enter the Password to enable phone use again.
I've installed registered versions of SPB Mobile Shell 3, and PocketShield but neither of them get around this problem.
Is anyone else having this problem? I'm trying to work out whether it's something I've done or whether it is all Diamond2's that demonstrate this frustrating behaviour? I've done a number of hard resets and gone back to scratch trying to see if I could get a combination that worked with this...
Appreciate any help so I can get this phone configured to my liking and actually start 'using' it. I know WM6.5 fixes this poor design in the OS.
Cheers.
Its an exchange thing...
The new version of Exchange 2007 forces all information to be hidden. As far as I am aware, there is no way anymore to show this info, especially as TF3D is so tightly integrated now.
Its pretty pointless having Exchange mobile policy on a device designed to protect the mobile information, and then being able to deactivate it, and show all that information you are supposed to be protecting when the device is locked.
BTW, the "versions" of wimo 6.5 that are floating around have been tampered with to remove this limitation. The official versions of ANY 6.1 rom will always hide that info when using exchnage mobile, if the group policy has restricted it.
You could always ask your sysadmin to disable it for your device.
Thanks for the reply and the info here.
I'm not trying to remove the password screen and that's fine with how it is intended to work.
But on my HTC Touch Cruise and my Diamond (both running 6.1 Pro) if I hold down the hang-up key it 'locks' the keys and dims the screen but still shows the home screen. Then after 15mins timeout I'm required to enter the password to access the phone again. During this the screen is always still displaying the home screen with the time, calendar etc.
But on the Diamond2 when I hold down the Hang-up key it locks the phone keys and displays the Password logon screen instantly. To use the phone again for anything, or to see the Home screen - I need to enter the Password.
This can't be the right way the phone is meant to work...?
Basically the 15mins timeout requiring password is 'instant' if I hold the hang-up key.
On my Samsung i600 which runs WM 6.1 I also have Exchange Sync with group policy enforcement of the password protection, but I can just chose "Unlock => Menu => Cancel" and the home menu shows.
But I can write back when my TD2 arrives and see if mine also does the same or if it is only yours.
mine does exactly the same

The rom did this out of box. I just flashed the HTC latest diamond rom onto my original diamond as well, and it doesn't show any info either.
thats interesting.

The answer there lies with the GPO triggering the simple pin lock from WIMO, rather than a 3rd party lock program.
A little progress...
Think I may have worked something out with this after a bit more playing around.
If I disable TouchFlo 3D and enable just the Device Lock option to show on the standard Today screen, then when I press Device Lock it locks the phone keys and dims the display (but still displays the Today screen info).
So the Device Lock can actually function on the phone as desired - however it appears that the ROM by default has the long press End key mapped to display the password logon screen (and not mapped to the Device Lock function).
Now it comes down to whether the long press End key can be re-mapped in the registry somehow to point to the standard Device Lock function and not the password screen.
I thought I had a way around it by mapping the long press Send key to Device Lock - however this button can only be mapped to installed applications (and not functions) from what I can see.
So any registry experts know of the key I'd need to modify to either re-map the long press End, or map the long press Send to the Device Lock function?
Resolved
Just closing the loop on this thread.
Zenyee Stay Unlock tool can be downloaded which resolves this problem.
It removes the need for a Password prompt for Exchange Group Policy (whilst not affecting the functionality of Exchange email working on the phone).
be VERY carefull!

I've read countless messages from people using this tool on XDA and on other WM sites I've not yet read anything negative.
But thanks for the info in case I notice something unusual happen with the phone...
