HP 6515 doesn't see TOMTOM maps - Beetles

Hi,
my beetles doesn't see TOMTOM maps on my minisd card.
I've tried to downloaded free map of one city from TOMTOM web site and it's worked.
Files on my minisd card (which in resources is named storage card2) are the following:
ttdesk
a directory Italia_Plus-Map
a directory Italia_Map
May you suggest me any solution?
thank you very much
j

Are you certain that the map is compatible with your version of TomTom. I had this problem before and it was because I had a newer map that my version of TomTom.

No, this is not possible, it has to be in the root of the SD card....

Ok, thank you for the speedy reply
That's not the whole story though. The Map and all those hundreds of Tomtom files can be in a folder on the SD card. For example I have the map in a folder called:
GB_plus_major_roads_of_WE
ie you must name the folder after the map, it must be correct or it will not find it.
I have tons of organised folders on my 6 Gig SD card along with the Tomtom folder. Otherwise you'd have to keep swapping cards which would be crazy.
Mike
Thank you!! Needing clarity

This is good news, indeed!!
So, you put ALL of your TomTom SD files into this map folder? Can you clarify? I've tried putting voices in root of main memory, and this doesn't work. I'd rather not have more than one folder in the root of my SD card devoted to TomTom...Any more comprehensive info? What can you put where? How much can this get consolidated? I was hoping there was a TomTom setting somewhere i could change to tell it where to look for things (i.e. replace the root of the storage card w/ another location)
Any info appreciated.

TomTom Home does not connect

I downloaded TomTom Home (both versions that are available) and tried each to connect to the Kaiser with TomTom 6.xx installed. Nothing happens. It refuses to notice the Kaiser connected.
I've tried it with the PDA connected before and after running TomTom Home. I tried it with TomTom 6 active or not active. I can't install any maps because of this. Can anyone help me?
You need to install Tomtom on an SD card, and then you need to put the SD card in an external reader connected to the PC in order for TTHome detect the installation.
It's on an SD Card. I had it in an external card reader just now but nothing changed. I searched in the TomTom support department where it seemed to be suggested that I had to download a bunch of XML files in a ZIP file and store them on the device main directory (which I took to mean "SD Card root directory"). That didn't help, either.
Hm...it's not on the SD Card. The CAB file was executed from the SD Card but WM never asks me where to install...and throws it into main memory. How to alter that behaviour?
Worked fine for me (USA) upon opening it gave a could not connect error, but when I selected ok and then clicked on the icons in the main window that say My Device, it asked me to choose my device and it had the Kaiser listed as an option. Not sure if roms make any difference but I'm running Dutty's latest 6.1.

Is there a ROM with Tom Tom?

I have already upgraded my ROM once with a Faria Rom which I thought was brill. The problem is I purchased and installed Tom Tom onto my PDA. I have to have the Tom Tom mini SD card in my PDA (I have tried copying the contents of the Tom Tom card onto a larger capacity SD card but that jus does not work for me) and thus can not put anything onto SD card. Given that Faria's Rom takes up such a large amount of space on my ancient Wizard I can not put much else onto my PDA. What would be ideal was if there was a ROM with the Tom Tom installed already on it (without the need for an SD Card). I know that you can buy PDA's with Tom Tom already installed; not sure if that means already installed on the ROM. Is there such a ROM that I can obtain anywhere? If so, does it still require a mini SD card from Tom Tom?
Any info would be appreciated.
Hi
Its dificult to find a Wizard ROM with TomTom already installed.
My Kaiser ROM have's it installed ye.but they are just for kaiser.
I advise you to look for the TomTom cab"Use my links and aceed my 4Shared folder,i think i have uploaded it there". If not just go to search feature in XDA Dev and insert the magic words (Tom Tom Cab) and search. Also use Google. Internet put the world in our hands,just type the Magic Words and on u go .
If you have the Maps,just put them in a SD Card wen Tom Tom installed.
Dont give up,try to think that we made the machine,so we are more stuborn ok.
Hope that this helps.
Many thanks for your post.
Thanks for that but I will sadly admit that I am not that techy enough to know how to take the Kaiser part of your ROM with Tom Tom and putting that into another ROM for my Wizard (if that's what you were suggesting; sorry if I got it wrong). I am to scared of bricking my phone to try at the moment. Can you suggest some threads with instructions on how to do this? If that is possible than I would assume it is also possible to put the maps I have onto the Rom as well?
I think I have found your CAB file but I probably have the CAB file on the Tom Tom mini SD anyway. So if I can figure out how to incorporate it into a ROM I may give it a shot. However, I warn in advance that I am really not a great techy.
I did a general search on Google for "ROM Tom Tom" and got a lot of spoof sites.
nonono, what he is saying is the there is a ROM for the Kaiser that includes Tom Tom, but that there is not one for the Wizard at the moment.
What you need to do, is download JUST the Tom Tom software .cab file from his link above, and then copy the maps for your region off of the Tom Tom SD card. Then, simply install the Tom Tom software (.cab file) onto your regular SD card, and copy the maps over to your regular SD card in the Tom Tom directory(or wherever they go/not sure).
I am assumeing that you know how to install .cab files on your phone correct?
Thanks for that. Do appreciate the explanation.
That doesn't, however, get over the fact that I want my SD slot free to store music, games, etc on. I might as well use the SD card I have now with Tom Tom if that is the case?
The problem is that the Tom Tom card is only 1GB (I think) and Tom Tom takes the majority of that. I have tried copying it on to a 4GB card but as soon as I place anything else on the 4GB card (other than Tom Tom) it is written over by the Tom Tom. Basically I want to have my SD slot free to put other stuff onto the SD Card.
Hmm, seems to me that you need to copy the Tom Tom card to your computer first, then copy what stuff you want to keep on your current SD card to your PC aswell, then load it all on there at the same time...and if that doesnt work...well, im out of ideas! Heh, but it shouldnt overwrite what you have on your card already(or vice versa), do you have a good file hirearchy? IE, things inside of folders and whatnot? Not just scattered around?
if tomtom takes all the space on your 1gig card then how the heck is it going to fit in a rom?
The ROMs with TomTom built in include only the executable- not the maps, so you'd still need to have that MiniSD card full of the maps. Sorry.
The folder containing the tomtom cab file is the 2577 folder but all you need to do is to just copy the whole of the sd card to a folder on your pc, then copy it all out of the folder on your pc, back onto your 4gb card. If you are still running out of space, or as you put it, tomtom overwrites the files then maybe you havent applied an sdhc patch to allow the wizard to see all of the 4gb card?
Oh as an added point if you just copy the map folder over to your 4gb folder and put that into your wizard then tomtom will work and you can try installing some apps onto it, you want have voices on it though,but worth trying just to see if it is the sdhc patch thats missing

Anyway, thanks for straightening me out....
all kidding aside, I agree that the SDHC fix is the only real solution to this problem (But does it work with the Wizard? It doesn't according to my searches.). Getting a ROM with TomTom preinstalled is no different from installing TomTom to your main memory. You still need a Storage Card to download Maps to. You might try a 2 gig card that isn't branded SDHC.
...
i have tom tom 7 which will fit onto a 512 card if you want it pm me and ill upload asap

Put navigatin maps on external SD card?

Hi,
is there a possibility to put navigation maps on the sd card?
I tried navigon and copilot. And both search the maps under /sdcard
But that is the internal sd card.
I want to have the maps on the external sd card.
But the apps don't search under /sdacard/sd/
I think that is a major design flaw from samsung, to mount the external sd card under /sdcard/sd
Dont think you can do that for now, this option is comming on Froyo. So its not samsung fault its androids
Oh, aha.
I thought, installing apps on SD is comming in Froyo. But putting maps on SD card? (or outsourcing/Swapping the maps on sd)
Yes but if you can install app in SD card in Froyo you can put the map there too, because they must be in the same place (memory)..map and navi app. Lets see when Froyo comes
Edit: Or it can be like in windows phones: You installed the app in internal memory and could have the map in external SD-card
I would prefer app in internal an map in external.
With navigon that didn't work.
But now I installed copilot again. Installed the maps internal.
Then moved the maps from internal to external. And edited the user.cfg of copilot to change the paths.
That works somehow.
I had the opposite problem to you.
Got the phone without an external SD card, and installed Sygic GPS navigation. Turns out the maps for this only work if you put them on an external SD card, so had to buy one, then shifted the maps over, and now it works now worries.
Cheers!

How did you address the external sd card? for example changing app paths from
"AddonDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/NA/North America/addon/"
to "AddonDir"="/mnt/sdcard/sd/copilot/NA/North America/addon/"
did not work. Copilot does not find the maps stored in directory copilot/NA/ on the external card. Thanks for any help.
My path was /sdcard/sd/copilot/EU/DACH/{cities;data;places;polygons;save}
Here is my config ini excerpt:
Code:
"AddonDir"="/sdcard/sd/copilot/EU/DACH/addon/"
"AudioDir"="/sdcard/copilot/audio/"
"CitiesDir"="/sdcard/sd/copilot/EU/DACH/cities/"
"GlobalAddonDir"="/sdcard/copilot/addon"
"GPSDemoDir"="/sdcard/copilot/gpstracks/demo"

"LRInfoDir"="/sdcard/copilot/info"
"LRSaveDir"="/sdcard/sd/copilot/EU/DACH/save/"
"PolyDir"="/sdcard/sd/copilot/EU/DACH/polygons/"
"RazorCacheDir"="/sdcard/sd/copilot/EU/DACH/save/razor_cache"
"RegionDir"="EU"
"RootDir"="/sdcard/copilot/"
"SkinDir"="/sdcard/copilot/skin/"
"SpeechDir"="/sdcard/copilot/speech"
"UIConfigDir"="/sdcard/copilot/uiconfig/"
Hi Polarfuchs, many thanks. Tried it again - no success. My "user.cfg" file in the "copilot" directory on "sdcard" has "mnt/" in front of all paths. I removed them so it looked like yours and added the "sdcard/sd/" to all map paths. Moved the maps to external SD into the copilot folder there. Did a proper reboot (just in case) but the application insists that there are no maps installed. It also changes all paths back to the original "mnt/sdcard/..." Not sure what the significane of the "mnt" is.
Anyway it only works if I have the maps in sdcard but I am running out of space b/c I also have NDrive 10 installed with "Western Europe" maps and my internal SD is full! NDrive also has no function to install it to external SD - company has not responded to my inquiry (neither did alk/copilot).
For other's who may also troubleshoot this: I run "Copilot Live 8" with North America Maps (they have a nice sale on them in the market right now) on Doc's XXJPO 7.6.2 with NO-RFS advanced EXT4 lagfix.
Any ideas much appreciated! Thanks!
Ha,
you didn't mention that you run on Froyo!
The solution I provided above was from the time I used Eclair.
Since yesterday I have DocFroyo, like you. But I didn't try copilot on Froyo till now.
On Froyo the external SD card path is different.
Please try /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/NA....

works perfect!! dankeschön!
After Polarfuchs solved the problem with Copilot (btw one can even run the app from the external card w/o any problems so far) my next challenge is to fix the problem with NDrive. I wrote them that I am running out of space on my internal SD card and that I have a 16gb external card. I requested support with moving the large maps for Western Europe to the external SD card. Here is their reply:
"Good Morning,
Please be advised that the equipment has an internal flash memory where you should install the NDrive, this memory ranges from 8 Gb and 16 Gb
The AutoRun NDrive is installed in user memory, the maps should be in flash memory that has a space between 8 Gb and 16 Gb.
Cumprimentos / Best Regards
NDrive Support"
Not very helpful. Anyone has any ideas? Makes no sense to have large maps on the internal SD.
Many thanks!
Hi, for a few days ago I have updated my Galaxy S to FROYO.XXJPO, and have change the user.cfg from Copilot to:
"AddonDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/addon/"
"AudioDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/audio/"
"CitiesDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/cities/"

"GPSDemoDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/gpstracks/demo"
"LRGeoDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/places/"
"LRGlobalSaveDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/save"
"LRGPSSaveDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/gpstracks"
"LRGridDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/data/"
"LRInfoDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/info"
"LRSaveDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/save/"
"PolyDir"="/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/EU/Europe/polygons/"

"SkinDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/skin/"
"SpeechDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/speech"
"UIConfigDir"="/mnt/sdcard/copilot/uiconfig/"
Now my Maps are stored on the external-SD card.
Here is a solution for Sygic GPS Mobile maps on external sd card:
http://x2think.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/sygic-navigation-android-externa-sd/
Here are the steps:
1. Install Sygic GPS Navigation on your Android phone.
2. Start the Sygic Download application and download your favorites maps.
3. After download is completed close the Sygic Download application and connect your phone in USB storage mode to a pc.
4. On the pc side, move all content except database.xml and base-is-ok.txt from Aura folder on the internal phone memory to external_sd card.
So after this process on the internal phone memory should be a folder called Aura with 2 files in it: database.xml and base-is-ok.txt and on the external sd card should be all the files needed by Sygic.
5. Make a back-up copy of database.xml then open it with Notepad editor. You will see that the file is pretty consistent. While in Notepad press CRTL+H and the find and replace option appears.
In the Find what field write:Aura/
In the Replace with write:external_sd/Aura/
Now press Replace All then Save the file (CTRL+S).
6. Disconnect storage from PC and start Sygic GPS Navigation. The program should start with no problem.
Make sure not to start Sygic Download application. If you want new maps you have to start the process all over again.
If something goes wrong and your Sygic GPS Navigation application is not working or you just want to go to default program folders you can always delete the Aura folder from internal phone memory and externat sd card but be aware you’ll lose all the downloaded maps.
Also you can move the content of Aura folder on the external sd card back to Aura folder on the internal phone memory, delete database.xml file, restore the back-ul file and everything should be fine.
I will not be held responsible for any damage done to YOUR PHONE. Do this at your own risk.
This method was tested by me on my Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3 stock rom.

No need to do all that, all you need to change is one line.
Change "RootDir"="/sdcard/copilot/"
to "RootDir"="/sdcard/external_sd/copilot/"
Once the above line is changed, you can choose your maps from external SD from within the app itself
and it will work as normal.
