Has anyone seen the QuickGPS stop working? When I click Download now I get an error "Connection failed. Please try again later".
It also says:
Download time: Not yet downloaded
Valid time: Expired
This happens if I'm connection over 3G, GPRS, or through USB/ActiveSync. All other data networking is fine.
I've experienced the same thing. I'm guessing it has to do with what connection profile that is being used...maybe the Cingular proxy is causing it?

for some reason, my phone screws up the reg settings every so often. Change to this (all hex), soft reset, and you'll be back to normal:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
"RemindTime"="02151010034724"

If it doesn't get added to the KaiserTweak app, I'll create a .cab file for it.
-Mc
Thanks - this definitely fixes it. I would love to see this packaged as a CAB or in KaiserTweak!
I'm really hoping he adds it. I saw SO many posts about QuickGPS failing and there were no fixes available or no information on what the issue was. If not, shouldn't take too long to create the .cab. One way or another, I guarentee there will be an automated quick fix in a couple days.
-Mc
I have had the same issue and had to hard reset yesterday.
Interestingly, about the same time that QuickGPS started to screw up I also noticed that the GPS wouldn't stop running after closing down any GPS apps. Also every time I got a reminder that the QuickGPS data was out of date and wouldnt updated, the GPS fired up and wouldnt stop until I powered down completely.
A lot of battery drain yesterday!
How to fix the permanent "Connection failed" problem.
I couldn't find a working QuickGPS anywhere, so I've patched my QuickGPS.exe (1.00 Build 615.715) myself:
00000191: F2 04 00 D0 03 -> 00 00 00 00 00 // Disables the digital signature
00004EC3: 0A -> 00 // Disables the annoying .ee check
Now it happily downloads the latest file whatever it's called in the registry and moves it to \Windows\packedEphemeris.ee
No more "Connection failed" error every time after actually downloading everything successfully. You can now use any server that works. Windows will just bring up the digital signature warning once the very first time you run it.
I have no time to sign it and turn it into a .cab file. Can someone package it properly and save a lot of people whose QuickGPS doesn't work?
I just reinstalled the QuickGPS.cab from HTC and it works again.

Have you found any solution for this problem? The GPS on my new Polaris seem to fire up every time I run QuickGPS or TomTom. Even worse, when I close the programs the process "device.exe" continues to use 100% cpu until I soft reset

The registry fix doesn't seem to solve my problems. I still can't download the latest GPS data.
I have the same issue and I've found the following advice to work almost everytime.
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Quick+GPS?t=anon
Finally I managed to fix the GPS / QuickGPS problems I've had with my Touch Cruise (aka Polaris).
Symptoms (one or many):
QuickGPS always failed (downloaded the file but then the standard error message).
TomTom found the GPS device but couldn't get a clean GPS signal.
The process "device.exe" drained 100% cpu as soon as the GPS was activated, and didn't stop until soft reset.
The usual QuickGPS registry fix didn't help.
Solution:
I exported the entire registry, backed up my data, did a hard reset, exported the registry again, restored my data.
Then I could compare my messed up registry to a clean (and working) one.
It turned out to be the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
By only testing some "External GPS" setting I had obiously messed up the connection to the internal GPS.
To fix it, delete the entire "GPS Intermediate Driver" key (i.e. registry folder), and then import the attached reg-file.
Hope this will save someone else a hard reset.
any one has confirmation on this new cab file working?
Hi Ruptor!
Could you help me please, how it works?
Thx

Hi,
I'm upgrading my XDA IIi German ROM to English ROM from Pug with radio version 1.04.00. Right now, the clock at the top right doesn't come up. Do anyone have the same problem like this?
How to display the clock at the top right?
Please help.
Thanks
Missing clock
Yes, sad to say - my wife's machine is exactly the same. It appears on the today screen, but not the menu bar at the top. Sorry no answers, though my guess is that it probably appears somewhere in the registry.
Anyone?
I've upgrade only the Radio to ver 1.04 from Pug but not the external rom since the Ext Rom will overright all my external and country setting. With this i got all my original country setting and interface im happy with only upgrade my Radio.
The same (clock disappearing ) happened back in the days on my Magician, to solve it do the following: get yourself a registry editor (e.g. phm regedit, freeware on www.phm.lu) and go to the following key:
hklm\software\microsoft\shell
- add dword called "TBOpt" and give it value 3.. soft reset.
0 = no time or date
1 = time
2 = date
3 = both
Thanks Koskie,
I knew it must be a registry setting. I'll try it tonight.
Regards
David
Thanks Koskie
I try to open the website but it isn't working. I attach the software here. It works great.
Thanks

Just tried that on my 2i (O2 UK, not that the provider probably matters that much), set it to 3 (I've tried hexadecimal and decimal-type DWORD), soft resetted, and it's still not showing up on the top bar.
It works for me. Using O2 UK ROM.
Thanks Koksie. Great Advice!
Cheers!

Hello,
it works on my Wizzard (xda mini s) but the date is in bold therefore the last digit is not completely visible. Any idea how I could change the date to normal text style?
Thanks,
Klaus
This is all done inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\ - use PHM Registry Editor (freeware) or another reg editor to do all of this (Tweak2k2 will also do it, apparently). Remember: registry editing can mess up your phone if you do it wrong!
You may already have an entry called TBOpt, and it might just read "0" or "1" - delete it, and start over. The TBOpt entry should be set up as a BINARY string. I did this, and chose a number - 13 - and set the value to
13 00 00 00
This resulted in both the time and the date being visible. This was a start, but I needed more...
I changed the value to 01 00 00 00, rebooted, and bingo: only the clock appears.
02 00 00 00 shows only the date.
03 00 00 00 shows both, like 13 00 00 00, except where with 13 the time and date were centre-aligned, the time and date are now left-aligned.
04: nothing.
05: shows the time, in what looks to be a left-aligned manner, in bold.
06: shows the date, dd/mm/yy format.
07: date and time, regular font weight (i.e. not bold), date in dd/mm/yy and time in 24hr.
08: nothing.
...
I got bored by this point, as every new choice requires a soft reboot and a 30 second wait while the device powers up. If I had a genuine copy of Windows, I'd download the emulator and just try it with that from the MS web site, but... well... The last time "I" owned a legit copy of Windows, I was about 7, and my Dad bought me a computer.
Some options seem to do more than most, I'd hazard a guess and say that some of the 'options' tally with the various ways you can choose to have long and short times and dates shown by the system in the Regional Settings control panel applet. I love being able to switch between analogue and digital time display! (tap and hold on the time, it'll only work if you only have the time shown, otherwise it'll show just the day part of today's date).
Going back to the legal-copies-of-Windows-thing finally, I suppose technically I own two legal licenses for two unique copies of Windows Mobile 2003 SE, but that's another story (XDA number 1 locking up on boot, that was a clever error).
Hope this post helped.
For some reason my clock has changed to an analog clock. Its really ccrap cos you cant tell the time! how do i switch it back to digital again?
THanks for the help!
Thanks, just worked it out...
And for those who don't know, you tap and hold with the stylus on the clock to bring up the Analogue / Digital choice menu.
Also, might as well just note for the record that the reason the clock disappears on the XDA 2i is because of one of the customisation CABs O2 have put in their Extended ROM. If you do a Corporate Install (with the 0506 code, as I did the second time round) it doesn't install any of the O2 interface, nor does it install any of the customisation CABs - so bingo, you have a (pretty much) standard WM2003SE installation.
I used the O2 Contract GPRS and GSM settings CAB file from this forum (supplied by Pug) to just make sure that my SMS and GPRS settings were correct, but aside from that my installation was vanilla, thanks to the Corporate install. Also meant I had a clock on the top, which was a revelation for me then.
Just stating this because when I was first searching for the solution to this problem, I couldn't find any information as to why it was happening, or how to fix it... Just chanced upon it whilst doing my own Corp install so now it's set in stone for future newbies to read.
Ok everyone, the next "incantation" of the TuMa ROM is now available!
This ROM is a radical expansion and departure from mamaich's original. I've replaced a number of elements which were OMAP code, with XScale code - taken from the Himalaya, Jasjar, and various ROMs I have had access to. I've also upgraded some applications, and put duplicates of different versions in as well (to determine which is better), and have added other various features, tools, and widgets.
The ROM requires a fair amount of testing now, and the only way I believe this can be done would be to let "everyone" at it and see how it goes. There is a LOT of untested functionality in the ROM, as I don't have access to a number of devices or configurations. So, feedback is definately needed!
There have been a LOT of changes in this ROM, and because of this I'd like to term this ROM as being an ALPHA version. If you have the will and the way, give it a go. I'm finding the performance even better (so far) - but it's only been an hour of testing, and in truth ... I've only managed to test very little of it. 8)
Considerations for this ROM:
All core elements of WM5 are now in the ROM. This includes the previously removed Pocket Powerpoint, Excel, and other files. So, all of the CAB files which I've created specifically for this ROM can be OPTIONALLY installed!
There are now 3 CABs by default in the EXTROM folder:
1). Midlet Manager
2). Arcsoft MMS Composer
3). IA Camera
This means that the ROM should be directly usable in devices without a Camera. If you have such a device, then make sure that you don't install the CAB file (just cancel it)!
If you do have a Camera, you MUST install the Camera AFTER the MMS Installation, as I've chained the two installations together. MMS will install without Camera, and then the Camera CAB will enable the Camera in MMS Composer.
One thing - localization is set to "New Zealand" (since that's where I am), so some of you will need to change this back to your region. (Sorry - it's my ROM after all )
The ROM is in /Uploads/Blue Angel/wm5_test/WM5 BA - TuMa v1.1.zip
Contents: nk.nbf, and the EXTROM folder with CAB files - so, update the operator and Flash away ...
Explore the features, test all of the elements, and let me know if everything is working properly.
All the best of luck with it!

Hmmm ... I had this as well when I was building this ROM myself. I think it's because some folders have been specified as "PermDir()", and the shortcuts are being kept.
For anyone experiencing the same problem try this:
(NOTE: This will require a HARD RESET & REBUILD)
1). Run "File Explorer" and goto "My Device"
2). Tap and Hold "My Documents", then select "Delete" and delete everything
3). Tap and Hold "Program Files", then select "Delete" and delete everything
4). goto "Windows"
5). Tap and Hold "Start Menu", then select "Delete" and delete everything
6). Tap and Hold "Startup", then select "Delete" and delete everything
Then HARD RESET your device, select "Format Storage", and "Clear Registry", and the duplicates should be gone.
I think I may have messed something up in the formatting specifications for the Flash Storage device ... i.e. it checks the existing format, and if it's still ok, it keeps all permament items around. This is probably BUG #2. *sigh*
Let me know how you get on ...

Installed the upgrade, did note the above problem. In step 2) and 5) files exist that prohibit the folder deletion, like PIE in step 5. Not sure why I get a different response than nks. Ended up deleting the duplicate entries in the Start Menu.
This version is much faster, great work.

Thanks heaps for the feedback!
Right ... I think my reworking of the Flash Storage specification - while improving the performance, has had a few other 'odd' side effects. Probably the SD Card buffering/paging has been affected, and similarly resulting in the double menu items.
As for the ActiveSync disconnect issue - I did have that happen to me just now as well. Very strange though, I simply opened another "explorer" window, and everything came back immediately. Maybe I've changed the timeouts/timing for the usb driver too much.
One really BIG question though - since you're using a SX66, did everything work flawlessly for you with respect to the NON-Camera installation (i.e. just cancelling the CAB install?). Is MMS fully operational and everything else working?
I'll try to have a look into this sometime (very late) tonight after I get my "real" work done now.
Oh ... and on the "bad news" front ... I'm going to be away again for another 2 weeks now - this time in Germany, going to be exhibiting at Cebit - leaving Sunday. *sigh* a bit last minute and unexpected all this.
Hopefully though, I'll have time enough to do some patches or an upgrade to the ROM for anything which is found before that time. So keep testing and letting me know!
Hello Mr. T Great work by the way !!! it really works great, much faster and responsive!! you will be a saint for all us geeks !!!
I have my first bug to report! in hopes of furthering the development.
there is no support (at least for me) for MIDI as ring tone, it does not play. also I get the following error when trying to play in WM "The source filter for this file could not be loaded."
well just happy to report! cheers!!
Great Work!!
another thing, I really believe that the problem with WM5 for BA is the phone side of the ROM I really think that there is an incompatibility issue here. because when I use the device with Radio off, it works perfect! on every issue.

I deleted the Camera CAB and modified the cfg.txt file before copying the files to the EXTROM directory and flashing, same effect as cancelling the CAB install. It installed without error. I tried installing the camera cab on an earlier version with no adverse effects on the SX66, but I prefer not to have it around in the PDA. I like the option to pick and choose what to install.
I'm not a user of MMS right now, so I can't tell there. Pocket MSN works. The activesync connection dropping out does have something to do internet access, connection stays active until an attempt to connect to the internet. MSN and FTP don't appear to use the activesync connection when it is available.
Wifi works, but I can't thru the portal at the hotel I'm at tonight, so I can't do a full test. Don't have my bluetooth adapter with me to check it.
Removed the screen rotate tool from the tray, I prefer the special button 9 on the keyboard for that function.

NOTE: This is very easy to do for anyone else. All 'accessories' are simply loaded in the /Windows/Startup folder, so if you don't want something (like Cyberon Voice Dial, or Screen Rotate, or psShutXP, etc.) you can simply remove it from this directory, or disable it, and it'll no longer run. Similarly, all buttons are now configured as configurable buttons (not hard coded through registry, etc.) This way you can easily customize the device how you like it.
Remember, it's also not using any of your Storage memory for these 'extra' applications - so there's no cost in having or deleting them.
I'll check the board again in a little while ... must get back to work! I might be able to make a v1.1a later tonight, which will hopefully correct some of these initial problems which have been found. (If I find the time ... )
hello all ...
im not try this new ROM but 1 question... ist work to use BA as modem with this ROM ???
thanks in advanced...
During the hunt for a fix for the hopeless GPS in the new 6.1 Rom, I stupidly uninstalled QuickGPS, and now - since I've found no other fix and it's patently something that HTC need to sort out - I'd like to reinstall it, in the dim hope it will be useful again some day.
Although there are various QuickGPS cab files floating around, none of the ones I've found are the peculiar 6.1 version (marked "Version 1.0" but copyright 2008, and with a higher build number starting 220.821). The only ones I've managed to download from anywhere are the original versions from 6.0 Roms, which - while they don't work any worse than the newer one - aren't any better either, and may well prove to have some other problem under 6.1. They must have changed it for a reason right?
Now it turns out, from reading up elsewhere, that my QuickGPS is still there on the device, sort of - if I set File Explorer to "show all files" and browse the \Windows folder, QuickGPS.exe is there, and it's the right version - I can even run it and download data. But it's no longer an installed program, so doesn't run automatically, and (since I deleted it's registry entries before) it's not setup properly there either.
Without a CAB to re-install it properly, is there any way I can persuade my phone to accept it back as an installed application, short of a hard reset? Or, does anyone perchance have it as a CAB?
I do not know why people are using the newest QuickGPS. THe only difference the program has is cosmetic. THe only purpose of QuickGPS is to have your phone read the GPS signal quick if you are using AGPS. Hence why it needs to connect to the internet to work.
True GPS signal is one from the GPS receiver built into the phone. First are you using AGPS??? Secondly if not, I do not see the reason for having it on your phone unless your using AGPS.
Ok, firstly, there is no "cosmetic" difference between the different builds of QuickGPS, so I'm kind of doubting your authority there straight from the off. The lack of any obvious difference is exactly what makes me think there probably is a more significant change under the hood. Secondly I was using the latest QuickGPS because that's what came with the latest 6.1 ROM update (which I'm also using). It wasn't some crazy whim of mine; HTC put it there, presumably for a reason.
You're confusing QuickGPS with A-GPS; in the context of the Tytn II they're two different things. QuickGPS is an app which downloads ephemeris data when online (during Activesync sessions etc) for use later offline. In theory, the GPS should be able to use this data later to speed up fixes, since it already has the empheris data and doesn't need to download this from the satellite. At the point at which you're out and about using the GPS, no internet connection is needed, because QuickGPS has already stored the data locally. This worked well (for me at least) on the old 6.0 ROM, but is sadly broken in the 6.1 update (and no, reverting to the original QuickGPS doesn't fix it - the problem is most likely in the radio).
A-GPS is different, it's using live data from the network to help triangulate position and speed up the fix - meaning a live connection is needed whenever you use GPS. It's only active if you have it switched on in the registry, and AFAIK only certain networks support it - on HTC branded devices it's always switched off by default.
Is there really no way to reinstall an app, when all the files are apparently just sitting there?
in the first place.....how did you install the app? did you lose the cab file that you used to install it?
secondly.......how did you uninstall it, but not manage to remove the file
The only answer i know will work for sure is a hard reset. (Not the answer you were after I'm sure).
After messing with various quickgps cabs trying to fix this problem i managed to stop my gps switching on at all. (Didn't go near the Windows Intermediate Driver settings).
The only positive is it gave me the opportunity to try a new 6.1 rom (Dutty's Diamond) and i'm really happy with the rom but sadly we still have the quickgps issue.
For a test i compared to a friends Artemis and after a Quickgps update his tomtom had all the sats in view within a few seconds. My posh Vario 3 didn't have anything.

QuickGPS gets installed automatically after a hard reset - it's in ROM as one of HTC's customisations. The surprising thing is that I was able to uninstall it, through the remove programs screen.
The files are still there because, apparently, they never left - they just got hidden. "Show all files" in explorer reveals them though. What isn't there is an installation cab - just the app files themselves, doing nothing.
That said, since I ran one of those files it now *is* doing something, happilly - after I messed with the options it re-established it's registry settings and is now running again as a service in the background, surviving soft resets. I manually recreated the shortcut in "programs" and basically all is well again, although since the option to uninstall hasn't returned it presumably still considers itself uninstalled somehow...
About the cosmetic difference I was referring to the QuickGPS in the newest DIamond Roms that are being ported over. I appologize for not reading your first post more clearly. Sorry about that
Essential processes for AT&T Tilt Users after each rom flash
I know this has been mentioned thousands of times throughout this forum yet n00bs often need assistance fixing their hardware keyboards, email, HTC weather, quick gps, and so on after they flash a new rom for the first time.
While hanging out in Bansville for a couple of days I realized I have been answering the same questions continuously. This is a mini text tutorial, which offers simple fixes for imperative AT&T settings.
So you installed a version of hardspl, flashed a new rom, and performed a hard reset. What next? Well primarily in all probability, you want to make sure the clock settings are in am and pm format and the date is set to m/d/y. To change your clock settings follow this navigation
Start>settings>system>regional settings>time tab>time style drop down set to h:mm:ss tt
To change your date setting:
Start>settings>system>regional setting>date tab> select the date style of your choosing and select ok.
Next, I like to restore my files such as my appointments, contacts, text messages, etc. I personally prefer to use PimBackup. Below is a .zip file for PPCPimBackup. It is an uncomplicated program to use and a lecture is unnecessary to navigate throughout this application, as it is straightforward.
After I restore my files, it is time to inaugurate the Tilt keyboard fix, which repairs your slide-out QWERTY keys to be mapped correctly. For example, without this fix Fn+W will appear as ! opposed to @. Below is the cab file you need to install to remap the keys appropriately. Following the installation of this cab file, perform a soft reset.
The next thing I usually do is correct my connection settings. First, I install ATT_Settings.cab, which you can find below. Then I navigate to the following:
Start>settings>connections>connections>select the advanced tab>select networks>Change both drop downs to Media Net> select edit on both drop downs>proxy settings tab>uncheck everything for both media nets that you changed>then hit ok or x when you are finished.
At this time, I set up my email. However, remember NOT to save your password, you will do this in the following step. If you are using HTC HOME, most likely you are, select the little envelope and create a new account. You can find your email settings by using google if you are using pop3 or whatever.
Next, after I set up my email without saving the password, I install removehiddenproxy.cab, which you can find below. This cab file is important as it allows your pop3 email account’s password to save without adding extra characters, allows for your quickgps to function properly each time, and it also allows you to use HTC Home Weather without getting a connection failure. So install this cab then go back to the email you just set up, edit the account setup, enter your password, and save it. Now, go back to your today screen and tap your weather tab. Now tap Select City and select your city (*Note there are a few patches available to select your town if you do not live in a big city). Anyhow, notice the menu button where your right softkey is, select menu and turn your temperature scale to Fahrenheit and select done.
I suggest setting up your WiFi at this time too.
Well this is my mini tutorial for a basic setup on your AT&T Tilt after you flash a new rom.
Have Fun Flashing and Take Care.
*Special thanks to the creators of these cab files and JimmyMcgee for teaching me the basics.
Am I missing something too?
Is there something to do regarding getting a reasonable GPS fix after flashing newer 6.1 roms or is it a known problem. I keep flashing down to older 6.0 roms with 1.27.14.09 radio because of the faster GPS fix. I would love to use the newer roms but GPS fix time is a deal breaker for me. To save you some time I use SPL 3.28 with 6.0 roms and 3.56 with 6.1 roms. I bounce between Q-mobile and RomEos roms now that we lost dutty. Ive tried all the newer radios and personally they all stink for GPS. Sorry about your brief ban and welcome back, I need your wisdom
*cough* sticky
AWESOME. I keep saying I need to: Start fresh, get NetCF 3.5, get a light rom. But it all seems so complicated to go from current configuration to start over completely, but this will help a lot! Thanks! Now to find the time and the 'right' ROM.
Thanks very much for the reminders, and for the CABs. I flashed my first 6.1 ROM last night, and forgot all about the hidden proxy!
I agree that this really needs to be a sticky...
This is a good tutorial, but here is a good side note to add.
By removing the hidden proxy (which ya do with the removehiddenproxy cab), Tilt users won't be able to get to media net (http://device.home or http://home) or cingular video as the hidden proxy is needed for those.
Then they should just use the Restore Proxy, and that will allow MEdiaNet.
Proxy Manager has both in it.

Did you try 1.71.09.01 ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410953
Been having the same issue and finally I think got a break. Tried about 10 SR's and the lock times are steady inside the house.
BTW using DK2
does windows mobile have a localhost file like windows? would remapping those to their needed servers allow the bypassing of the proxy?

+1.
Nice tutorial
I downloaded your PPCPimBackup zip file but when I attempted to open it I received the following prompt: "The central directory was not located . . ." etc.
Thanks for the post BTW. Very helpful and informative.

you were unable to open the zip file? I'll check it out and reupload it if necessary.
edit: works ok here my friend. Unzip the file to your desktop and move it to your storage card then run the program hopefully it works for you.

I deserved the brief ban.
Anyhow, I noticed that when running 6.1 roms with the Tilt you need an application such as HTC GPS Tool or GPS Test, to open your internal gps, prior to opening your GPS Software.
These are the steps I use to utilize a GPS Fix after each soft reset:
1) download latest updates for quickgps
2) Open GPS Tool>com 4>baud 4800>Hot Start>Then click Open and wait like 30 seconds
3) Open TT7
*If you fail to get a fix after following these steps close all programs and repeat. Eventually you should be getting fixes within seconds.
I've attached GPS Tool for you, good luck.
What exactly does the remove hidden proxy cab do on AT&T Tilts? If you go into your connection settings and uncheck the proxy server- is that the same thing or something different than the cab file does?
Hey Red,
I attached an ATT settings cab which does not enable the proxy by default, and also enableds creation mode in MMS settings. I thought it might be helpful for your thread here. Also, it may seem too advanced for beginners, but i have a thread started here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418468
This has a step by step guide to how to create an xml file using Schap's Advanced Config 3.0, which can be used to provision all of your advanced config preferences during your UC setup. This tool has really made it very easy to do reduce the amount of work that goes into flashing.
I also attached a cab for total commander, a free, more full featured file explorer; gps test, another gps tool; and advanced config 3.0. Hope it helps.
Thanks... this is a great thread!!!

I'd really like to know this too!
Why would anyone ever want the proxy checked? Does it do something for you to have it checked?

It removes a HIDDEN proxy, one that you can't remove without a cab. Without it enabled you can't connect to medianet home, and some other things. Most users like to disable it for a myriad of reasons, one of which is that it causes you to be unable to browse while connected to your laptop.
The box that you check in connections is a separate issue, and i think that is actually just old settings, i'm not sure, since even on the AT&T website it tells you no not to have that checked.

Awesome. So, if I run the cab and remove the hidden proxy- can I then tether my laptop (connect to the net using the Tilt's data)- without getting caught by AT&T? Or is there more to tethering without getting caught?
This is just my last resort I suppose. I recently flashed to NATF's v4.4 and 1.11.25.01 radio plus installed Google Maps on my att Fuze.
But when I go to locate myself Google Maps tells me "Your current location is temporarily unavailable". Sweet.
So what have I done thus far?
I've looked around and I've done the Advance config tweaks.
I've updated my Quick GPS.
I've ran the HTC GPS Tool (I honestly have no clue what I am looking at here lol but I do get a Mode 2: Not Fix thingy) for about 2 hours hoping for *something* to pop up.
Finally, I've done the GPS Test version 1.04 but it maintains itself at "Looking for GPS unit.
I've soft reset, hard reset and cried.
Is there anything else I'm missing? Any help would be mucho appreciated, thanks!
Hi Coola,
I am using the standard HTC-ROM.
0) First of all, I am not sure whether your GPS unit is working in your phone.
But assuming that the hardware is still OK do the following:
1) Go to settings > System > external GPS.
Check if all options are still normal.
Program port is COM4.
Hardware port : none.
Baudrate : 4800.
Access: Check automated GPS control.
NOTE that an external connected GPS (e.g. Bluetooth device) unit will have a baudrate of 4800. The internal which resides at Com4 has a standard baudrate of 57600. These settings need to be checked to make sure they are still this way and it will also give Windows automated control of the GPS system.
2) You need to install Advanced Config 3.3.
http://www.touchxperience.com/fr/out…ol-32-cab.html
With Advanced config 3.3 under GPS:
1. disable A-GPS
2. disable GPS logging
3. logfile name must be empty
4. old logfile name must be empty
5. maximum size of logfile must be 0
6 delete the files : \windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
After these settings the tool will soft-reset your mobile.
3) Then edit registry with TotalCommander
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab
Don't make any errors here, check your steps carefully.
These values seem to work fine and give you a much quicker fix.
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, you have to create it, make a Dword value)
After these settings are in place, restart / soft reset your device.
4) Run the program QuickGPSfix and download the new data.
This step needs to be repeated anytime it is outdated.
5) Download and install the HTC GPS Tool.
http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853...C_GPS_TOOL.cab
Upon starting it should show COM4 and a Baudrate of 57600.
Go outside the house, preferably with good wheather.
Hit the "Open"
Hit the "Nav. Int."
Leave all as is, no need to change the options.
You should now start to see the GPS data flow over your screen in the grey area. Wait patiently, the first fix can take up to 10 minutes (afterwards it wil go faster). If it fails it sometimes seems to help to move around a little bit and to reboot your device if it takes way to long.
See if you have any red bars below the satellite numbers (signal strength per satellite) When you get a fix, the bars and satellites to which it is connected will show up green. If there are no red bars here, no data flow etc then there is something wrong with the ROM / radio combination and your phone.
Close this program if you have a fix.
6) Start-up Google maps. Wait for it to download the basic map information, so you don't have any interference from the "now downloading data" message. Then start the GPS use. Fix should now go fast. Once it has a fix you can start moving towards your destiny.
From now on use HTC GPS tool to get a fix.
Close this program, start the program with which you want to use GPS.
Good luck, Jouke.

the location Google Maps is trying to get is from the "cell towers", make sure your selecting com4 or MS controled Gps. In other words , google trys to locate with towers first. Then if you select to use GPS, it will try using your Gps setting under options. If you already know all this, then disregard my post, if not, then I hope it helps!
Ah I see what I did wrong. Thank you guys for the clairification!
I had previously made all of these tweaks and I did see some green bars but it never said fixed, which I assumed it would.
I did the HTC GPS Tool and booted up Google maps and voila! It found me
Thank you thank you thank you!
