For does who are intressted in my WM5 experience
I have spent my weekend upgrading my XDA IIs to WM5. With all the comments in this forum and Wicki I was able to do this in a painless and strait forward way. But after 3 days of daily usage I came to the the conclusion that WM5 on my XDA IIs is not ready now for real business use. There are too many bugs which are very disturbing if you are depending on this tool. So I have downgraded to 1.40 and restored my datas with Sprite Backup.
Anyway WM5 looks very good to me and I will be back and install it again when the time is right.
Thank you very much for all the support placed in this forum by you guys!
I've installed it about 2-3 days ago so far, and I'm loving it, I've had a few minor issues but I've managed to work around them. The installation for Windows 2005 was very simple and to the point which I liked, it didn't give me any wonder off questions like "How do I do this part?" it was all done through a nice application. I'm sticking to Windows Mobile 2005. ;-)
FACT: WM5 is maybe ready for freaks, programmers and "wannabe cool guys". But for real business it's definitely NOT ready.
I work in a very hard business and need that thing very often, and it was much better with the WM2003SE, trust me. WM2003SE is a bit faster with my PH20B1 device, but it has definitely less bugs than WM5.
But it's just fair to say, that our WM5 version is just a beta version and for nothing (money). I already have it on my device, I'm not sure to downgrade. May when I have some time.
WM5 is a love hate friendship.
What gets me the most about this is the fact that if you buy a PC with 2000 on it you can LEGALY upgrade to XP or Server 2003.
If you buy the same machine in a GERMAN version you can LEGALY change the language to what ever you want.
We have paid good wonga for a device which was shipped with a licence for the CE. Here we are stuck as we can't change the language nor version without creative means (lets not get into that).
As a communaty I would say that XDA is a great source of information and has found many ways to fix issues that are both Carrier and OS based. Many of us have spent hours fumbelling in the dark to inprove our very expensive toys and passed on this info via the forum and wiki.
We all know that BIG Brother is watching us. We all know the so called gods of Richmond have flexed thier mussels on this site.
What I just fail to understand is the simple fact that in the long run we all want to better our devices and inprove the issues of perfromance and stabilaty. Whether this is from the side of us users or the manufactures.
So Microsoft make our day and leak a newer Build of the WM5 for the BA and I promise you that we will again documnet the issues, problems, incompatabilaties, faults and general messups.
Would a controlled beta testing by a bunch of Geeks that give a damm and use the device daily not be better than some lab rats that just see if the icons are color matched?
Will I go back to 2003, think I will have to and it pisses me off big time. Would I stay with wm5, well if I could charge my device and then answer a incoming call with out haveing to reset the bugger it would help.
Well - no additional comments. I agree with you
Agree
I agree with all of your views. As Saisoku-R i am also using my XDA very heavely every day. I do not have the time to play around bugs. But anyway I think WM5 will be a great OS and I may try to upgarde in some more weeks again. Thanks to the great work of all you guys out there!
Thanks!
I agree with the argument in this thread. I use the XDA for non-business purposes, and am enjoying WM5 and its improved verstality no end. I specially love the contextual soft buttons below, the enhanced office and the improved quality of sound. But I do realize that for serious business users, it would be smarter to stick to 2003SE for the moment, and hope a more stable version of WM5 is released.
I have had the version2 with all appropriate patches installed since it was released. I am fortunate to say the I can hear/answer all incoming calls and all SMS features. I don't care much for MMS and taking pictures on low quality imaging product so I have not tested it to a great extent. The only gripe I have with WM5 is that it is slow. Much slower than I can handle compared to WM2003. Even the overclock patch by Mamaich has it's limitations.
Mamaich and Buzz has done a great service to us and I personally would like to thank them for giving me first hand experience in using WM5. Unfortunately, WM5 on a BA is still in it's infancy and I await the day when they tame it. For now, I am on my way back to 2003 and will weight my options when a mature WM5 or a Linux Stable is available.
Downgrading
i have been using the WM5 for weeks now and it is not stable, i can't use bluetooth, wireless is bad, does not ring when i am getting a call, it might ring during the last ring and stuff, so i will downgrade and stay till bluetooth and stuff is fixed. Thank you guys for making WM5 possible, it looks nice but thats all it is so far, looks. I would love to upgrade again if u guys get it stable, thank you very much.
I really wonder why there are so many different problems that some have, but other haven't got. The WLAN and BT turning itself off when the unit is suspended is common for all. But the problems you mention are rare, and I have none of them. Maybe it comes down to other, third party applications that are installed, or perhaps a bad upgrade?
no real problems
I have to say that I have had no real problems since installing wm5.
I have had no reason to soft reset and I have been using for about a week. I must say that at times it goes a bit slow but if you run the mamaich overclock again it seem to rectify for a day or so.
everything works BT, MMS, EMAIL, pocket msn, spb weather, spb clock, Agile messenger, Fax. Oh and phone with no sound issues at all.
To me it is far more stable than 2003se ever was.
Cheers gang
I have been using WM5 for about 6 days now, and it is much more stable (if slower) than 2003 was for me.
Some things don't work
1. Spb Diary
2. Spd Today Plus
Windows Media Player doesn't play Windows Media streams (32k) that TCMP can play.
Overall I am happy with WM 5, it would be nice if Microsoft could figure out how to write code that executes faster though.
I'm back on WM5... I had serious problems with WM2003SE, it softresets itself every 5-10 min. That's right, WM5 is much more stable, even the splash image doesn't nerve me, because with WM5 I don't have to softreset 1time every day
Where can I get the overclock util from mamaich ? Couldn't find it. Are there any cons concering the overclock util ? My BA is just 3 months old, I don't wanna crack it.
2 things that isn't as good as it was in WM2003SE: WLAN/BT and performance.
Oh, I found another problem: I have the german keyboard fix for the hard keyboard, and when I type emails or whatever, the buttons sometimes "hang". i.e.: I push the "E" button and it types 60 times the "E". When I press backspace, it deletes the whole text till the beginning. :?

That´s part of HTC and not MS. MS only delivers the PB and some extensions for WM5.
So go and ask your carrier for changes, so they can order something at htc.
In WM2003 a lot of problems may have been fixed a long time before you got it, but it was to expensive to create a new version, test it and deliver it...
I had WM5 for about 2 weeks on the BA. I thought it was very stable, just WAY TO SLOW. Loading a program like Resco Explorer normally takes <1 second on WM2003 but about 5 or 6 on WM2005. Now before you think, "well that isn't that big a deal", remember everything is going slow like this. I just could not take it anymore.
That being said, I believe BUZZ, (maybe mamaich as well?) is looking into making a version without persistent memory, (basically going back to using RAM for storage and program) like the XDA2 builds.
If that was made then the speed would no longer be the issue, (though persistence would be lost )
I cannot agree with you, my PocketPlus 2.5 loads very fast, ALL games I've installed on my device are much faster with WM5 than with WM2003SE. Just if you re-activate the BA it is slower than WM2003.
And I was just sick and tired of doing almost all 2 days a softreset with WM2003SE... I don't have this issue with WM2005.
All in all, it's like MDAIIIuser said, it's a love-hate story.
I'm a network consultant and I use my BA entirely for business, which is the biggest reason I was SO happy for the work that Buzz, mamaich, ramram, cdaly1970 and the others on WM5 for the BA. Being as that my email, like my clients, is entirely through Exchange 2003 I really don't use text messaging, MSN and such. My only real problem has been with the BT, which I can live with for a while as I need the other things that do work, like my Pocket PC actually syncing to my Exchange server in the cradle, tasks syncing over the internet, contacts containg photo's, setting importance in outgoing emails, etc. I reset in the morning before I get in the car and maybe once more during the day. Yes it opens emails, Word, etc slower.... but the Outlook email and Contacts are just SO much better!
I've gone back to 2003 twice .... and now I just can't imagine going back. Just my experiences....
Steven
^^ hey, what else could I say... this is exact my situation !!!
hello all I have been using it since the gurus figure it out, and gone trough all the patches and fixes and stuff, after removing the camera stuff, I never had a problem again, and with the overclock app, it works great, its fast, reliable, get all phone calls use it for business everyday its just great, exept for the album, I cant get that to work, other than that its great! thanks to all the geniouses!
win2003 is good still
Well i have used WM5, it is slow, i thought about using hte overclock tool but i would rather not damage my device and be stuck with dead weight. I was really really upset about the bluetooth issue and not being able to use my ear peice, i bought it for a lot of money and i would prefer to use it, cause it is safer and i cannot really hold the MDAIII between my head and shoulder like a regular phone. WM5 looks really good, no doubt, but so far since i went back to 2003SE, it is fast, i have not missed any call and bluetooth is a hell lot more stable. I have happy we have WM5 but i think i will not go back to it till it is well fixed
i have my xda2i and tt5 installed, and it runce nicely for an undetrmined amount of time then decides to close tomtom, i can reopen it and carry on but alas it keeps doing the same.
when i start tt5 i get the hands logo on the bottom bar apear but after every crash it seems to move along.
Any idears guys?
my old tt3 works flawlesly.
Firstly, make sure your using version 5.10, theres a small patch from the website that takes it from 5 to 5.10.
Second, consider it might be your SD card, slow older SD cards tend to make the device hang and/or slow down, which is a problem with the radio (mobile signal) and the SD card interface.
Cards above 80x speed generally work flawlessly.
Third try just a full re-install of the TT5 software, there might have been an error whilst installing thats causing it to crash.
i havent tried the update and i dont know what speed my card is, its the same card i used tomtom 5 with flawlessly in my old pda (loox600).
I'll try the update and see what happens.
Try this
Use the poi.dat from tt3.
I had a problem with the new rom where it crashed from time to time & also i couldn't nav to the poi without it crashing.
I used the poi.dat & i can now nav. it doesn't let me call the poi but it might solve your problem.
yay! when i used the tt5 poi and navigate to, it gave me the categories but no destinations when selected then would promptly crash, i put the tt3 poi.dat in and it will now searcha and nav to without crashing. will take her out on the road tonight and if i can get to my mums and back then alls well.
was a pain cos i went to newcastle a month ago (375mile) and it just kept crashing, i had to run it in guidance mode (no map, poi) so it must be the poi then cos it didnt crash like that.
will let you know my findings then you have a definitive answer for all you out there with the same issue.
Awesome
Happy with that if it works
What version of the rom are you running by chance?
ok, it dont crash now but it's so much slower in refreshing the map, about half the speed it was.
has anyone got an unaltered tt5 pio.dat file they can upload for me to try, i'm wondering if its happened when i used my free trial of tt plus and added thier speed camera databases. i could reinstall the maps but i'm nowhere near the orginal disk at the moment as its at work and i'm 'ill'.
I have a tomtom mobile pio which worked for a while then crashes, and have somone sending me a few different TT Go pio.dat's. worth testing them all.
my roms listed below chap.
Here is POI from TT 5.10, you said in your post that you had TT's speed camera database but I thought that you had to take out a 12 month contract.

You need to uncheck all the POIs you don't want to see on the map, that is what is slowing it down.
i activated the tt plus trial on the website for a month and grabbed all the extras, although i use pocketgpsworld.com for my speed camera databases.
I have all the poi deactivated already.
will try this poi.dat and keep you all posted as i know others with the same issues as i'm having.
i've tried a working 5 & it crashes but mine works fine with the 3 one. you could always delete all poi.dat & see if it is faster.
its still dying, with all tt pio.dat files. pain in the bottom, someone else on here has mentioned they have fixed this issue. grr
Is your copy a proper license? I used to use a pirate copy before I deceided to use the real thing. The pirate copy crashed all the time as you explained but the real copy wotks just fine.
genuine. though i have done updates and added my own poi, just wondering is any other software is clashing.
been using tt since version 2 and have had bothe mobile versions on a nokia.
if your sd card is not a 80x speed it will crash all the time ,have you tried a transend 80x card as it has been established to work well and isn't that expensive
I'm using a kingston elite pro (50X) SD Card with tomtom 5.10 with ALL the POI's checked and ALL the pocketgps.co.uk speed camera datebase POI's checked with alerts for the speed camera's and i have never had a lockup whilst driving using tomtom.
Maybe try hard-resetting your XDAIIi and installing everything manually NOT using sprite. That's what i did and my tomtom seems to work flawlessly.
What bluetooth gps are you using?
ive tried hard reset a few time, even only with tt on it. no luck.
i'm not sure what speed my card is, but looks like this is most probably the cause then, matter of finding some cash then i think, or getting just a small 128 80x to stuff it on for when i need it.
tried it without the pio.dat file, still crashes. grrr.
Yes, bearing in mind i have a soley-devoted kingston elite pro 512mb just for the GB Plus map and the French map.
Perhaps if you get rid of all the other stuff from the card by formatting it in a card reader, try using "media recover" search around for it on google as it will wipe the card clean, this takes a while, but it will restore your card to it's original condition when you first bought it.
Then for the formatting, try reading this post i posted ages ago...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21920&highlight=lydiachris
Format your card this way to produce the best read/write times.
Now put all your data back onto your card, just copy then paste the files from your pc to your sd card. This will produce no fragmetation therefor your XDAIIi will not have to search around for the desired data on the card.
Give this a go and post your outcomes.
yay, i found a apprently modified ttn.cab file through file share, installed it to my xda, it downgraded me from 5.1 to 5.0 but hasnt crashed or paused since, although ive only tried it locally, it seems fine, trying to find the time to take it 50 miles+ and see if it works
gonna try out your formating trick soon chap, will keep you posted
New XDA2i - TomTom 5.10 crash/freezing....
Hi all!
I got my new XDA2i through insurance after my 1st one's screen smashed. Installed all my apps etc including the TomTom 5.1 update andddddd it freezes every so often again ! dammm!
So, I double checked everything, all ok, the only thing I can think of is that the newer ROM this handset has is the cause of the lockups again.
I've looked through the postings on this topic and see slightly different versions on the radio version, protocol version etc.
This new XDA2i (I havent changed the ROM) is
ROM - 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date - 01/27/05
Radio Version - 1.00.00
Protocol Version - 1337.39
EXTROM version - 1.11.162 WWE
Is it possible that some of these versions are known to cause a problem even with the updated 5.1? ( by the way I have the special Bakonl update )
I use a Sandisk 1GB Card (normal speed), the TomTom silver BT GPS unit.
Interestingly, my brothers 'spare' XDA2s with this setup works flawlessly, so I know my install, SD card, GPS all work fine.
Any ideas guys? how do I update say just the radio version? or protocol version? so that my version match another user's version which are working with TT5.1 ?
I was really looking forward to getting GPS all working again as I've missed it these last 2 months ! and now it's doing that annoying freezing again!
Any ideas, recommendations, things to try will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!
i have read the postings on the upgrade of WM5 on the Blue Angel device..
what i would like to know is what will WM5 do for me that WM 2003SE won't... are there any real benefits.. and do all the functions still work... wifi, gprs, phone etc..
i'm using the 1.40 ROM and don't really have that many problems..
every now and then the device resets by itself.. if i open the inbox, or change the phone on/off... otherwise it seems to run great.
is there any speed increase in using WM5 ??
any benefits in wifi or GPRS and emails ??
thanks..
hi
I had the opportunity to test WM5 in my himalaya device...
It wont be so different than yours but here is my 2 cents:
-Slower than WM2003SE
like 80% of WM2003 speed
-sometimes the cellphone rings once but for the other party is the 3rd or 4th ring.
-Lot of software bugs and incompatibilities.
bugs with camera and MMS
Camera= worse than the WM2003 one
MMS= I can send but when I receive, the page is blank (no objects, sounds, pics)
I just return to WM2003SE
Yes, is ugly than WM5 but is better, bug-less
hope this helps you.
Anyway, you can try WM5 and If you dont like it, go back to WM2003SE again, well at least work for me that way.
Same 2 Me...
I just get back to 2003SE...
But I miss the look of WM5
I'm back to 2003SE too!
The only thing i miss of WM5 is the Persistance Storage.
2003 gets my vote for now
I'm back to 2003, I ran several versions of the WM5 roms from Maimach. I can say that WM5 is fun, cool and all that but I didn't see any reason to stay with it. The persistent storage thing can be solved for me by backing up my contacts and appointments to a SD card along with the main apps I use on a daily basis on my SD card. Then when I lose power, I just reload the backup of my contacts database, re-load the apps from my SD card and I'm back up and running in just a few minutes. The speed and reliability were the two main reasons I came back. I ran WM5 for at least 6 weeks so I know I gave it a fair shot. I've found that I only use my phone for a few things:
1. Email
2. Phone (duh!)
3. Mp3 player (TCPMP)
4. Limited internet (google/froogle/weather/movie times/news/etc)
5. A few games when I'm stuck in traffic. =)
None of these functions were necessarily performed better in WM5, most of them actually were quite a bit slower but I decided to live with it because I was on WM5!!!
After going back to 2003 (1.42 rom) I was SHOCKED at how much faster it was. I had gotten so used to the sluggish performance of WM5 that I had forgotten what it was like to answer the phone on the first ring, watch outlook email open immediately instead of "within a few seconds" and not have skips when I listen to mp3's. Don't get me wrong, I TRULY appreciate the work Maimach and others are doing to get wm5 on our devices but it's more of a developers toy right now than an actual OS replacement for our devices. When they get a version of WM5 that's written for the xScale processor I think we'll see a HUGE difference.
For now, I'm back to 2k3 and not dissappointed at all.
Me 2
I am also back to 2k3 three weeks ago after 1 morning running 2k5.

I'm using 1.42.... Some times when someone call me, the name not show...even that number already in my phone book....
Thanks
i have used windos mobile 5 since the first version on this forum (yep with all bugs and no camera) i have tried all upgrades and versions. and i have all most satisfied with the wizard version (v2) its really more faster. but i onlgy have no problems if i dont use my BA . some times i don´t have fone, other time don´t have sms, mms. lots off crash, with gps and tomtom navigator very instability, every time i put some software in today screen, the BA crash.. etc. etc..
now i have finaly go back to 2003 (version 1.42) and use wall memory (like wb5) use the wisbar advance 2 and my Ba its great.. but i still come here to see if there is some advance in stability on the wb5 .
when the ppl off this forum "bill" a windows mobil 5 running at 95% i reflash my rom again
thanks guys for everything
Hi Everyone...
I have had mt HTC 8925 (AT&T Tilt Branded) for well over a year... I use this phone daily and love it... I have never flashed a new rom to it since I flashed the most updated at the time AT&T stock rom that was out the day I got it... It is still running on WM 6.0 and is great for the most part... Only real modification was I did the reset trick to advoid the bloatware... After trying MANY programs, some I liked & kept... others I removed... I have finally run into a snag where I am willing to flash and start over to fix the issue (my tomtom traffic won't update anymore, and after much trouble shooting, TomTom and myself think I need to "Reset the Tilt to factory settings" or flash it to a new rom... I was hoping to get some advice from you guys to which rom should suite me best... Here are some details..
The phone is unlocked, and I use Einstein Wireless for service... so I do not need AT&T or Tmobile settings on there, and I prefer no hidden proxies or anything... I will manually enter my carriers internet and mms settings..
I use a lot of WiFi as my providors internet service is slower than I would like
I use it as a GPS (with TomTom) almost daily...
I installed the HTC Home Plugin and love it with the weather updates.. would like to have that incorperated with whatever rom
The radio version on stock rom works great for me.. so something when paired to do simmilar settings on that ?
I use the S2P, S2V2, and S2V .... So I can install those or if any rom has them in it...
I have a good sized micro SD (8gb at the moment) so I tend to install jsut about everything onto the SD card.. maybe a rom where that is the defautl location or something ?
I use MS Voice Command daily...
I play games on it regularly.. love works, ka-blom, pac man, emulators, and others...
I use wireless BT2.0 stereo headphones for MP3's and such
I stream music and video from my home computer using orb
I have used IE Mobile, Skyfire, and other browsers.. I jsut want one that works well...
I love an iContact (or type) contact program
As you probalyl guessed, I like it to be as finger friendly in general as possible...
I have used a few programs so I can use the phone as a webcam when connected via USB to my computer, woudl be great if it has that built in as well
MMS/SMS managing software would be great.. I usually keep recent txt's for a while after receiving them... something that say only keep them til you have a certain amount or after a certian amount of time passes would be great....
Of course, I would also like the rom to be very stable as well if that isn;t too much to ask..
I am open to trying to some programs/features that I have not used before... and I don't expect any rom to do everything I have listed above... The main thing will be to get one that I can set up the internet easy enough without having to worry about hidden settigns for AT&T or other such carrier... If you have been using a rom that you really liked that you think would work for me, let me know... Thank you in advance for reading this and sending me you suggestions....

So let me get this right.... You have a standard Tilt, minus the bloatware which you're happy with (and have been) until TomTom stopped working with traffic updates. You're now considering changing the ROM to fix the problem Why not just hard reset after backing up your stuff and do the bloatware free reset trick again? Oh and mods don't like 'ROM Recommendation' type threads (read some of the sticky posts to see why) so if people post saying ROM x is better than y, this thread will probably be locked to stop any arguments breaking out. Also TomTom will be less likely to offer support with cooked ROMs - I was told they wouldn't even support a HTC Default WM 6.1 ROM, only the WM 6.0 ROM the device (and TomTom) came with (one of the reasons why I had my device reverted to WM 6.0). Good luck with your hard reset
+1 on the real issue being Tom Tom traffic, as you seem pretty happy with use and your exisiting configuration. I'd try to find a WiFi hotspot (where Tom Tom can also see satellites) and see if Traffic will update via WiFi. Could be Einstein is blocking Tom Tom traffic over GPRS.
still new to the kaiser/tilt/tytn II, etc(less than a week) so not in a position to really give any real advice, but what helped me in my decision is reading through PureSkillz reviews of the roms and seaching with google outside of xda to see what people are using and that helped me with my decision, T-mobile sux in about every way, so if it is good on T-mobile it'll probably be good on anything else. What I had a hard time on is choosing the right radio for my device but luckily the rom i chose allowed me to use whatever radio i wanted and I am happy with my setup and don't plan to change unless something radical happens in the scene. I am running Tomtom 7 on my rom and it works perfect, but i dont have internet via my provider cause they charge way too much so i use wifi. the one thing i don't like about this rom is lack of landscape support but hey, cant complain if i'm not smart enough to cook my own stuff.
see my choice in my sig below. Aloha
Thanks... It isnl;t an einstein blocking issue.. I already tried the WiFi... The problem started right after I installed igo GPS program to compair the 2... I have since uninstalled igo, but tomtom still wont; connect to traffic.. I talked ot them at tomtom.. they were very frienmdly with troubleshooting.. went htough a million steps.. even gave me an additional free year of traffic as well for the problem, even though it isn;t their fault...
Thank you... I read that... and thought I woudl advoid those "argument" because I wasn;t trying to ask "What is the best rom"... I was trying to ask what rom would work the easiest for me in my unique situation ? That is why I listed how I use to and what software I use... But thanks for the input... I considered just doing the hard reset.... I just thought if now I am wiping my phone and starting over, which rom would give me added advantages...
And on the TomTom not working with 6.1..... My son bought a phone like mine after he saw me using it so much.. when he got his (After me) we grabbed the newest offical rom form HTC's site (he actually uses AT&T prepay, so the AT&T software is ok for him).. It was WM 6.1 and his TomTom software works fine.... So don;t let that stop you from using 6.1
I have downloaded the Athine OS WM 6.5 Final as well as the Hyper Dragan III from Christmas day, 08 as many people reccomened... I have to decide between them now... You have any experiance with either?

I found quickGPS stopped working (continually failed to update and said it had never been run) after I updated the installed version of TomTom Navigator from 6 to 7 recently. In the end a hard reset and reinstall of TTN 7 fixed that. It was a simple process for me as my setup is standard other than the addition of TTN. If you want to resolve it by fiddling around with registry entries and cabs etc, then we need to know what changes were made immediately before the problems arose.
I think it may be a hardware issue more than software.
also kaiser tweak installs about 50% of the time when doing a hard reset. it can't find 1~temp file or so..
I think i'll just deal with and move to the X10/android. Windows doesn't care anymore and i'll never buy an apple product so android it is..
BTW, where can I buy a mainboard for the tytnII?

What makes you think that?

If you've got the money to splash out on a new phone then that's one option but why not save yourself some cash and try to get what you have working properly by spending as little money as possible first?

There you are keen to spend loads of money again. If it's just a mainboard that's required then you're best bet is to find a TyTN II which has failed through some cause other than the motherboard and use it for parts. By all means check prices with your HTC repair centre but it won't be cheap new.
Now, this is something I should have mentioned from the word go, in order to provide any sort of meaningful assistance, we need to know what ROM/Radio and SPL is on the device now and have any changes to these occurred? If you don't know how to find this out, check the xda-wiki for further info and may the force be with you. You mention wifi and quickGPS in the subject yet GPS (ie the navigation application itself) in the content, which is it?
I just have the ATT software that came with the tilt. I don't have a backup phone and have no experience with Romming so i've put it off. Maybe I should look into and give it a go...maybe that will fix my wifi/no quickGPS connection.
I think I do want to get the X10 because of the rez and screen and keep the Tilt as a backup.
thanks for the help.
Time to call AT&T if reading the wiki and hard resetting fails

You haven't mentioned what network you're connected through but if it's not AT&T (ie someone has unlocked the phone), then you will have some problems with the default ROM. If you do use it with AT&T then if you've already read all the relevant xda-wiki pages here related to the Tilt (it has its own page and you should definitly read it) and are still getting the problems you've described even after a hard reset (try the D Pad button method), why not see what AT&T have to say about things? I suspect a hard reset will fix it though if there have been no changes to the ROM/Radio or the SPL and you're with AT&T.
Internal GPS problems
I have also problems with the internal GPS of my TyTn II.
I changed the housing of my TyTn II because the old one was pretty trashed.
Now when I have new housing, the GPS doesn't work anymore.
Everything else is working just fine except that damn internal GPS.
I've tried three different navigation software which I have in my phone's storage card, TomTom 7, Garmin and McGuider. No hope, the GPS is not working.
McGuider can find the internal GPS automatically but none of those navigation programs are able to get GPS fix. I've tried Quick GPS and HTC GPS Tool. Nope, doesn't work...
OK, what should I try next? Hard reset? Or just accept the fact and get another TyTn II?
Well, maybe my TyTn II would still work with external GPS but I wouldn't like to a) purchase it and b) carry it with me.
