Tilt - Stupid a$$ ATT 3G Splash Screen audio... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

When I have my phone set to silent or vibrate, I usually have it that way for a reason. However, if I soft reset my phone for whatever reason, that stupid AT&T 3G flash movie thing plays with the loud-a$$ audio and all, no matter whether my phone is set to silent, vibrate, or volume on. I hate AT&T, but it sure hurt my wallet a lot less to get the Tilt from them.
I'm sure there's probably not a way to silence that stupid thing, so if someone could tell me how to just remove it without screwing up my phone, I'd be OH-so grateful!
Sorry to rant, but AT&T is worse than laptop sellers when it comes to the amount of crap/bloatware they put on their hardware!

You can flash a different splash screen. I think wiki has something on it.

You could also flash the HTC ROM. This would also get rid of all the bloatware. However this ROM vibrates when you reset, but not as bad as the ATT ROM.

There's a way to turn it off via a registry setting floating around here. Search for it.
And AT&T sure gacked up this product. Seems each new HTC phone they carry gets more and more bloatware.

can be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation
just set the enabled value to 0 and that will get rid of THE most annoying startup animation/sound ever

Thanks a ton Doug.
Cripwalk, as much as I really do want to flash the HTC Rom, I had so many issues with call-dropping issues on AT&T with my original Tytn with the HTC Rom. AT&T Roms don't exhibit the call-dropping behavior and that's enough for me to stick with it, even though I DESPISE everything about how they do business.
>8o|

Get the best of both worlds then: flash the TyTN II OS image only. Leave the AT&T radio in place. I'm having good results with this strategy so far. The TyTN II HTC logo animation is very cool btw but it wastes startup time so I disabled it using the above mentioned reghack..

Or, just edit the registry to do it without flashing anything.

Sleuth, interesting call. So you believe that only the radio has anything to do with the calls, and the OS rom is totally independent? I mean, I know that you can flash them exclusive of each other, but I didn't think it was just the ATT Rom that allowed it to work well.
Also, did you have issues on your regular Tytn as I explained? Or did you always use a Cingular radio rom?
Thanks.

Hey, well this actually helped me

Remove the AT&T 3G Starup Sound
Tired of that annoying sound and want a simple solution?
1. Create a wave file you like or create a blank .wav file. To create a blank file, right-click your desktop and select New Text Document. Rename the file to 3G_Up_Soft.wav (you'll need to make sure that you can see the file extension). You should end up with an empty wave file on your desktop.
2. Using ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Manager, save the file you made to your Tilt (storage card works nicely).
3. Copy that file into the \Windows directory on the Tilt.
4. Using File Explorer on the Tilt, rename the file you created within the \Windows directory to 3G_Up.wav. (It should allow you to do this without warning or issue, even though a file of that name already exists!)
5) Soft reset and enjoy the new sound or no sound at all!

In future, a simple search is encouraged.

Awesome thread. Just a tip that I don't know if you'll find elsewhere in the forum. Being pretty much a noob, I found this user-friendly registry editor:
http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/ceregedit_setup.exe
It connects through ActiveSync and let's you edit the registry from your desktop (pretty much like regedit in Windows) - very convenient.

New WM6/Tilt user, please help!

Hello-
I'm new to Windows Mobile (I've been on Palm OS for at least 5 years) and I have AT&T Tilt (8925).
I've been playing around with it for a while, and there's still some things I have questions on-
1)How do I complete remove some programs that I do not want and don't appear under "Remove Programs"? I know they're located in the Windows folder, but I get a Error 5 whenever I try to delete them- I think they're read-only or something...
2) I'm also having problems with the GPS receiver. At times it will work great, acquiring a signal in seconds, and other times it won't work at all, searching for a long time to find nothing. I use Live Search and Google Maps and have the same problem with both.. Any ideas?
3) Coming from Palm OS, I'm used to text messages coming up in a view. Is there a way to change that?
4) I modified my PTT button to work as any program. Is there a specific registry key I can set it to so that it acts as a power button?
5) I use gmail and I'm using their IMAP service. Some of my messages are appearing blank when downloaded. Was I supposed to change settings or something? Why does it only work for some and not others?
6) And last but not least, does anybody have any good mod/util programs to recommend?
Thanks for your help
Also,
7) Does anyone know how to disable the sound on the 3G launch screen when the device reboots?
I havent got too many answers to your questions, but this would be a sart at least.
KaiserTweak has many necessary customizations (but I dont think it addresses most of your questions.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
The apps you want to remove sounds like the Cingular built-in ones. In that case you can avoid installing them by doing a hard reset, and rebooting before it installs the carrier customizations.
This article gives a step by step howto.
http://tiltsite.com/2007/10/how-to-beat-the-bloat-on-your-att-tilt/
Also this page was useful in getting my GPS problems sorted out. The GPSTEST software seemed to cure the problem all by itself (and its freeware)

Yeah, I've got KaiserTweak already, I love it.
In terms of the "bloatware", that is indeed what I want to remove, but there's also some that I want to keep... Is there a way to remove programs that arent in "Remove Programs"?
Not AFAIK, but the actual AT&T apps are available as a separate cab in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438
Unfortunately they are still bundled together, but at leas they can be cleanly uninstalled.

Even after bypassing the bloatware install, the CAB files should still be on the device for you to install them on your own. Might take a bit of digging to find the proper ones and you may need something like Resco Explorer, or Total Commander to "see" them. I think the built in file explorer hides some of the system files, but I couldn't tell you much more than that.
Thanks. The GPS Fix doesn't seem to do much- am I missing something?

Are you able to run it. You should be able to use it to test the function of your GPS device, and find out what port it uses etc. Its a smartphone program, so you have to use it using the keys, not the touch screen.

Does anyone have any ideas on the other issues I'm having?

I am a Noob please help.S.O.S.

Ok I have alot of questions and need some help.I have the AT&T Tilt and this is my first pda phone so I am new to all this. The only thing I added to my phone was the Kaiser Tweaks because I hated the screen going dead during calls and a few other things. Here are my questions:
1.How do I get A new home page for my phone.I want something that the clock is diplayed in big numerals and something that hopefully has a weather button that works and any other good features?I like the one from HTC in the gray but not sure where to get it and if the weather button actually works.
2.Is there any way you can get new alarms, use a ring tone for an alarm or something cause the alarms suck on this phone?
3.Does anyone know how or even if you can set up your hotmail account so you can just go to messages instead of having to log on using the internet explorer?Even if you have to pay for hotmail plus, any information on this would be helpful because it sucks that my hotmail doesn't work with the message section on the phone.
4.Is there any other programs, tweaks or mods that I should add to my phone that is useful, will speed it up or anything else that I should look into?
I know this is alot but hopefully some people know the answers to some of these questions and can point me to the right place. Please help.

Sorry i know i am new at this and thanks for your help if you could just be a little more descriptive on how to do step 2 and 3 thanks.
On your Tilt you have a program called windows live, open it and sign in, it 'll ask you if you want to sync mail => yes.
If you dont have this program you can download from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438
the music files must be put in the root off your device, in the windows directory. for some phones they can't be mp3's but must be .wav files, so you'll have to convert them. I use Acoustica MP3 To Wave Converter PLUS. very simple. Then you go to Sounds and notifications in Settings=>Personal and select sound for new sms. For alarms you tap the clock on your today screen and go to the tab Alarms, there you click on the little bell above the alarmtime and select your tune.
hope this gets you on your way...

Bluetooth Volume?

My bluetooth volume is really low on the headset, anyone else have this problem? Im using the Jawbone bluetooth headset on Dutty's v3 rom on my att tilt. Ive tried different roms, adjusting the volume to highest on the phone and the headset but callers are still hard to hear. Ive used the same bluetooth headset on my previous 8525 with no problems. My headset was even too loud when on high with the 8525. Any advice would be great because i do all my talking via bluetooth with my phone.
Yes, everyone has this problem - although I heard something about AT&T's latest ROM having some fix for the BT, but wasn't sure exactly what it fixed...
FIX?
Well if the problem was fixed either buy a chief here or htc or whomever, there should be a cab file floating around with the fix. thats what im hoping for or maybe a registry edit to help fix the problem. Ive read many threads on how the bluetooth volume suck for cars as well. Maybe if theres a fix for that, the same fix should fix my problem and many other's.

Yeah as a matter of fact you can take this into your own hands. The latest AT&T ROM has a file called "AudioPara4-CWS_V6.csv" which I cooked into my new ROM (releasing tomorrow morning) as well. The thing is you don't need to "COOK" it at all. And it is simply a comma delimited spreadsheet. I have attached it so you can download it. Simply edit it as necessary for your headset, drop it in \Windows and add the following registry key to your device:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev]
"AcousticFile"="\Windows\AudioPara4-CWS_V6.csv"
Drop and Go?
So i just drop the unzip file u provided into my documents and edit the registry myself as u described? Sounds easy enough if thats all it takes. Whats the name of the rom u are releasing? Ill have to give it a try.
?
DARN! When i downloaded the file on my tilt and tried to open it i get the usual zip error of cant find the archive file crap. Guess ill have to wait to get home from work to try it on my computer.

If you're using File Explorer select "Show All Files"...sorry I zipped it directly from my ROM and it has the hidden and system attributes set. Even on a Windows machine you will need to enable hidden files AND Protected OS files to be able to see it. And put it in \Windows.
Nope
Even after i check show all files on file explorer, then click on the zip file, get the same zip error when i try to open it.

Exactly, glad im not the only one that cant unzip this file. sounds like we just need to place a couple files in my documents then edit the reg. This might sound dumb but can u just upload the files a la carte that need to go to the my documents folder instead of making it a zip file? A cab that installs by putting these files and edits the reg would be too good to be true. Anyone up for the challenge?

Make sure you have hidden system files unchecked in Windows?
If you using Vista go to tools in any folder. Click on folder options.
go the view tab.
uncheck "hide protected operating system files"
XP should work the same way as well. This solved it for me.

Yes, you are totally off as AcousticFile is a String, not key.
Try the Cab I attached.
Anyone found this key w/ the cvs file really help anything as I don't see any problem w/ the current BT so far???

Thanks for the .cab
I was wondering if you could provide me with a screen show of what it should look like so I will know for future reference.
Thanks,
EDIT: Am I getting closer?
Whats this cab do?
Thanks for the cab file but whats it supposed to do? I installed the cab to the device then soft reset the phone. I then talked via bluetooth headset for 20 minutes after reset and the low volume was still there. Almost seemed the cab did nothing more then take up 16kb of memory on the phone. Didn't address the low volume problem in the bluetooth headset. It must be something with the phone because i know this headset gets very loud becuase ive used it on several devices and all being consistant except the tilt. Any other suggetions to fix this problem anyone?
you can try this:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway
Tell me what yours say for the "SpkVolume" setting ??
also...
I got this tip from somewhere before ... see if this help you ... it's for the BT handset mic volume ... but within those keys ... there should be one for the speaker volume as well ( you have to search for YOUR device ... as everyone's is different ):
quote:
""
Navigate to
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Device
Under this you would find several keys. Each key represents a device you are paired with. In my case I have only 2 keys since my PDA is paired only with 2 devices (my notebook, and my handsfree) Then navigate to the handsfree key, so mine reads like this.
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Device\000c55401c45\Services\0000111e-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb
You would find a dword called name, verify that the value corresponds Hands Free
Change the channel to 5 (my default was 2) 5 seems to work better with Motorolla H500.""
goodluck
Bump for some more info.
If you search the forum you will find a few posts on this subject. I have been searching through them just about every day and I have had no luck in finding an answer. Seems editing the registry doesnt help and the BT fix cab was released by HTC to fix bluetooth headsets dropping calls. I have tried the fix and I have tried using Jetware, I have not tried the registry fixes because many others have tried and said it doesnt work. Ive been through 4 headsets and non have good volume. I am still waiting on someone to find a working solution or a reasonably priced headset (below $100 thats non-stereo) that works. I think you may be stuck for a while like so many others....
Man, that sucks. I never get dropped calls on from using bluetooth, only when the phone drops the calls from ****ty att service. Guess thats why the cab didnt help out with increased volume. i did tons of searching beforestarting this thread and like u found nothing so i decided to post and see what happens. Quentin stated above he fixed the problem in his latest rom released today, 1/14/08, so i guess ima have to try his rom out to see if it helps. i really dont want to leave dutty's 1.1 rom cus of opera 8.65 and his great features cooked in. i love how dutty has the battery status under htc home with the exact percentage of battery life. anyone have a cab for that feature dutty cooks into his roms? thanks!

Wing help needed, please help

I just recently upgraded to the wing. So far...........it's had it's ups and downs with me. As with any phone, there are somethings I like, and other's I don't.
I wanted to ask a few of you a couple of questions. Before asking, I know others have asked some of these questions on here already, but I wanted to ask them from a n00b's pov. I haven't modded squat with this phone yet and don't really know much about it to be honest. I did successfully mod the living daylights outta my V3r, so.........I know how to follow directions lol. But as far as being directed to a website to download.............won't exactly work lol. Anywho, here are my questions:
1) How do I increase program memory?
2) I had a video file on my phone that played smoothly. I had some issues with the wing (long story), but long story short, I had to do a hard reset. I've only had it like 5 days (TMo 3rd level tech support told me to reset). Ever since that reset (and having to reput that exact same video with no changes made), the video now plays choppy on the phone. Any idea why?
3) Are there any programs that I can remove without damaging any of the system files?
4) For the life of me, I never have understood why phones come prestocked with those goffy photos, gifs, and other garbage. Is there a way to remove these?
5) Is there a way to increase the size of contact pictures when they call?
6) I was also reading that there's supposed to be some kind of "update". What will it do and does anyone know when it's coming out?
I appologize for asking some questions that have already been asked, but I really need someone to walk me through "step by step", especially considering how much this phone costs. I DEFINITLY don't wanna mess it up. If someone, ANYONE, can help, I'd be greatly appreciative.
Oh yeah, one more question. Any tips and/or tricks that the phone does that the manual doesn't tell you?

1.) At the moment keep it clean, there was a thread on here a while ago where someone (moneytoo?) was tweeking his to run better but I dont remember what the last update was. Keep the memory clean and you can run things until we get more updates or a cooked fix.
2.)Not sure what would cause the vid file to be choppy unless you are running too many things at the same time, whats the specs on the vid, and what player are you using to watch it? If its the built in WMP then thats most likely your issue.
3.)Yeah, depends on what you want to remove?
4.)Yes, open the pictures & Videos, right soft key number 4 delete.
5.)Not that I know of, but I would bet you can go into the phones system files and pull the incoming c all display file and tweek it to be larger. Mine is something around half screen by default I think, never paid attention to it really...
6.)I heard that it was late March to April(most likely late April) but that could change.
Theres a lot that the manual does not tell you, you can go into the regestry to change your start menu look, you can open the home page XML file and redesign it for your personal tasts(IE on the nice HTC home screen you can have a start menu and other stuff) Just depends on what type of things you want to do with it.
This is my first smartphone and I am still learning, there are a lot more inteligent people on here than I and I am sure they will chime in with their tweaks and stuff, or correct my mistakes if I had some. I was pretty wary at first since it was such a different platform to me, but after about a month I got to know it and since I know computers so well did not mind playing in the registry and so forth. Just back up your ROM before you tweek in case you do toast something.
Enjoy the phone and welcome

I was pretty wary at first since it was such a different platform to me, but after about a month I got to know it and since I know computers so well did not mind playing in the registry and so forth. Just back up your ROM before you tweek in case you do toast something.
Enjoy the phone and welcome

Thanks for your answers, they're greatly appreciated.
2) It's the built in wmp. How do I remove it and what do I replace it with? Furthermore, what do I need to install new software?
3)I'd like to remove stuff I don't use. I'm talking about where you go to remove programs. I've got Microsoft Live Search, T-Mobile Email Wizard 1.0 (don't even use my phone for emails), OZ communications OZ IM (not sure what that is), and Winwap Technologies Oy t-zones (not sure what that is or does either).
4) All those pics are saying that they're .sys files, and I don't wanna mess up the phone by deleting them (will it?).
New question, how do I back up my ROM?

No problem
I never removed my built in WMP just in case and its taking up no space, but I use two players at the moment, TCMP (I think I have an older version since it wont support quad pixel mpeg4 for some reason, but its the only version I can find) and Core Player. Both will play just about everything out there. TCMP works best (that I have found) on our phones because you can tell it to play at medium quality a full size file so you dont have to convert your media (most of the time) and it wont lag. Core Player was good, but seems to lag every now and then (most likely from the lack of proper video codec on the s730) but since it will play FLAC audio I kept it installed.
You can do it from the phone itself, go into your start menu, settings, more, top option remove programs, this usually will just be for what you have installed. Optionally you can connect it to your computer and explore through active sync and remove the data, icons and folders for what you dont want. I personally am not sure how one goes in and removes the preinstalled software for sure.
The pictures with a .sys sound like they are for icons, your menu's and other images that you might want to keep. The junk pictures that are pre loaded should be in .jpg, .bmp, doubt it but .png extensions.
I have not backed mine up yet but theres a tutorial in what you need and what you need to do stickied at the top of this forum, flash sspl and hardspl, I dont remember for certain but I think somewhere in there is the way to back up your settings, dont quote me on that though...

This Stupid Phone and Weather Location Fix

What the hell is wrong with these phones? Is is so hard for the manufacturer to provide a simple freakin fix for weather locations. Oh hey, my town not on the list, so I shall try and hack the stupid files to get my city. Now my phone don't work, thanks. Tried using a patch to hack the HTCHome.dll and installed it, and guess what, my phone is screwed up. It locks at start and I can't even use it. Way to go!!!! Can't someone have a file that just has United States cities in it instead of all these crap countries that I don't even give a damn what the weather is for some off the wall country in South Africa???? Yes, I am sorry that I pissed, but I can't use my phone now. Any ideas?

Was there a question in there or was it just a general rant about the phones , that the rest of us seem to have no trouble using, and the rest of the " crap countries " ( of which hundreds are represented on this site ) other than the U.S.......... Ugly Americans.....why would anyone call us that ?

If you can't get into the phone at all then it's time for a hard reset.
I have done a hard reset and the phone still does nothing. Only way I could fix it was to reflash my phone. Now I got my phone working, but sorta sucked that I had to do this because of a stupid file. I am sorry if I said anything wrong, but this weather thing is really starting to get under my skin. I have looked all over this forum and did everything that the guides tell me, and I still can't get this stupid phone to work right. Plus it don't help that I can't even replace the HTChome.dll because the stupid file permissions. I have tried to use Total Commander and still it keeps changing itself back to read only and system file, etc. I can't overwrite the file, I can't delete, I can't do anything with it. I have downloaded a modded HTChome.dll file, but what good is it when I can't even get it on my phone. And if I try the other way, where I mod the file using the tools and then install the cab it creates, that causes the phone to endless reboot or just hangs up after it gets to the home screen. So then I have to re-flash the phone again to make it work. I am using WM 6.1 HTC stock rom, so what I'm I doing wrong?

flash to a 6.5 rom.
What happened when you followed the link that I gave you ?
Well, I did go to the link, thank you btw. But still had issues.
1) Disable HTC Home from today screen
2) Unzip the attached file, then copy it to the windows directory <---won't let me
3) Soft Reset
4) Enabled HTC Home
If you cannot overwrite HTChome.dll, then use use totalcommander or some other file explorer and rename the existing one HTChome.old, and then copy the new file to the windows folder and soft reset, should work like a charm. <---Did that and still can't rename or overwrite the file. It renames it self back and changes its permissions back to original.
Since I installed the new HTC Home 2.1 etc, then also reloaded my M2D update 23, I have noticed another directory under root called HTC Home with similar files that are also in Windows. Now could I maybe copy a modded HTCHome.dll file to that and regedit to point to that directory. I am afraid to do anything since the phone keeps being stubborn and I have to do a complete reload if anything goes wrong. I have already reloaded this phone 6 times because of this. Thanks
Blame the weather on the ROM chefs
For all the great things the ROM chef do, putting the weather files into ROM is the only decision I feel comfortable calling into question: specifically, the XML with the cities list should be in RAM where it can be edited as needed and the dll that calls accuweather should be be in RAM too (although putting a patched version of the DLL in ROM may work with a custom xml .... I don't cook ROMS so I don't know.)
This leads to my current question:
Is it better to put certain things into ROM or is it better to have them installed upon flashing using UC or Sashimi (or some other method?)
IMHO, for the purposes of cooking my own ROM (if I ever figure it out...) I will use the latter method until I know exactly what apps I want to put into my ROM (Mobile Office, carrier-related settings, soft-reset, safe mode boot, net framework, Pandora, SOTI Pocket Controller Pro, etc) whereas my email settings, wifi network settings, BT pairings, registry entries for installed apps on my SD card, shortcuts to those programs, etc will all be done in customization after flashing.
