Hi all,
Just in case... I just got myself an AT&T Tilt and I'm new to WM6.
Is there any info on how to hook up a Mac laptop with the 3G data service? The dumber the procedure would be better
Bill

Depending on what version of OSX you are using yes and no
Yes, if you are using OSX 10.4.xxx I think you have to hook it up using BTPAN profile. There are a few threads out there on this if you can't find it here I know there was a thread over on Modaco.com You could also try and do it through a program like boot camp if you have one of the macs with the new intel proccessors.
No, well not yet if you are using OSX 10.3.xxx I've been trying to link my macs to my WM6 phones for about two years on and off. Like you I want the stupid way cause I'm not a programmer. All my other phones that are not WM6 work fine though.

Hi everyone. I hope that someone can help me.
I used to use PDANet for tethering with my 8525 and my laptop; which was awesome. Since upgrading to the Tilt (WM6), I can't tether because PDANet is not compatible with WM6. When I communicated with them I was told that they currently have no plans to offer their program for WM6.
I do not tether enough to pay a hefty $30 per month to tether through AT&T. But every Saturday and Sunday I really need it for my travel.
Does anyone know of a program that is compatible with WM6 that I can use to tether as PDANet allowed without indicating my tethering to AT&T?
Any and all help is greatly and humbly appreciated.
The latest version of WM5 and in WM6 there is a "internet sharing" ability that tethers to both Vista and XP extremely nicely. Call AT&T, they for some reason hid this on the Tilt, but it's there (in the Windows directory if you want to find it with file explorer), but AT&T's PDA group should be able to help you. It's really really easy.
I flashed my Tilt to the HTC ROM and could tether fine. You can do a forum search for detailed instructions on retrieving the Internet Connection Sharing program from the Windows directory as the previous poster had mentioned for the Tilt's ROM. The Tilt is capable of natively tethering, but AT&T made it a bit harder to find the function.

I found the file info on another site. It's called "Internet Sharing" and it's in the Windows directory. I tried to set it up, but am not saavy enough to make it work.
I can't afford to pay AT&T another $70 a month to get my laptop onto the internet when I'm out in the boonies. I used "Modem Link" on my 2125, but can't seem to make anything work on my new "Tilt".
If anyone knows how to make it work, I'd appreciate the help. Since I'm pretty new at this, step by step instructions would sure help.
Thanks,
This will add the link back in for you:

Download the cab file, copy it to your phone, and use file explorer on your phone to run the cab file. From there just go to Programs, Internet Sharing and tether away.
Thanks! I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Thanks!
It works great! Faster than the old dialup I used to have.
How 'bout tethering my TYTN II to my notebook via Bluetooth and utilizing the TYTN II as the GPS receiver with the navigation software on my notebook?
Thanx.

Never thought about that. I have MS Pocket Streets and Trips on the PC and laptop. I'll try it when I get a chance.
Are you out of your mind?

MR. scottwilkins ;;;; Are you out of your mind ???????
If any one call AT&T they will tell you that you have to pay for a more expensive PLAN in order to TETHER.
AT&T DON'T WANT YOU TO TETHER if YOU DON'T HAVE a PLAN that LET'S YOU TETHERING, and believe ME it's not going to be $30 for the plan, its going to be $50 and I think up to $80 JUST so you can TETHER.
SO DON'T EXPOSE YOURSELVES to AT&T........
...... They WILL REAP YOU APART.
DON'T be !##!&^$&*[email protected]#$^*&#, If you understood that
NOW, how do I KNOW THIS!!!!!! Because IIIIIIIIIII CALLED.
Of course they are not going to know if you are doing it (using Internet Sharing) (I'm not sure about using Dial UP) unless you start playing from your computer an online game that you CAN'T OBVIOUSLY install in YOUR PPC.
When it was cingular it was OK with THEM, just as long you DIDN'T abuse.
Soooooo.....DOOOOOOOOOOOOON'T CALL THEM.
I may sound like a newb but here goes, how do i turn my tilt into a wifi router so i can connect such things as my psp, xbox360, etc. to the internet? Ive read and everyone says theres a program on the phone to do this but i dont see this great program. Im using dutty's newest rom apr 01 and not seeing this wifi router program/app anywhere. Is there a cab for this? Anyone know how to connect such devices to the internet using my phone? I have the unlimited data plan through att. Thanks!

Hello pulyka, I have this program installed on my Tilt, but my laptop doesn't see the Tilt's wifi connection when the program says its connected.
Am I missing something?

You aren't the only one. I've never been able to get it to work on my Tilt, when I used to use it all the time on my Mogul.
I hear now this program costs money. If no guarantee for tilt compatibility, can refunds be granted if it doesn't work?
I must say that the IT manager at my job has this program installed on his Tilt and it works fine. He actually used it in a meeting the other day when the main signal was too weak.
He is just so busy that I haven't been able to have him check out my phone, to see what is the problem. So there is some hope for Tilt owners and WMWIFIRouter.
Worked fine on my Tilt running Sleuth 3.0 Rom.
Try the earlier version, it is still free and it works fine (just a little less polished).
I tried the WMWiFiRouter .91 once. My tilt took too long to connect to the ad hoc network so I stop using it. I think that's the problem. You have to wait until your phone to connect to the network before the router starts working.
Put in an inquery with the company that did the wifi router app on WM6.
Here is the reply I got
Currently WMWifiRouter is only available for the Windows Mobile 6 platform.
While
we are actively investigating a Windows Phone 7 port of WMWifiRouter, no release
is scheduled at this time.
Please note that Windows Phone 7 is a severely limited platform, and it may turn
out to be impossible to create a version of WMWifiRouter for this platform.
Kinds regards,

Man I hope its not locked and they can make one, without that feature im screwed. At least give me a USB version so I can use USB connection to browse via 3G

Yeah I just upgraded my tp2 and got spoiled with the wmwifirouter. My hd7 seems to sit half the time without a sim card. I hate it cause my tp2 screen is cracked, I love the wm7 interface, but since there is no hotspot option- I'm forced to use both.
Hi
I've been using HTC phones for years now, always been on O2 and I've always used my various flavours of XDA to connect my laptop to the internet. I am at this very moment using my Polaris via bluetooth to connect to this forum with my laptop, that is my problem.
It it the one function that the Polaris does that I can't make my HD7 do. Am I missing something here? Surely the HD7 can do this, it is a pretty basic function of a phone so I reckon the problem here is the user.
I am currently having to swap my sim card between devices whenever I need to connect to the net with my PC.
I little help here would be very appreciated.

Actually, at this time I dont believe there is any way to tether the HD7 to a PC and if I remember correctly, I believe at this time the bluetooth on the HD7 only works for a headset and nothing else. I may be wrong so Id do a bit more searching but I believe this is what I have read and heard...
Feeling your pain.... My PSTN telephone line is down (taking my broadband with it) so having to stick my sim back in my water damaged HTC HD2 and with a stroke of luck and with the awesome windows controller 'MyMobiler' I can use that as my modem... Was a bit shocked that this was missing with WP7 going after the business (and social) sectors...
Hi,
I was thinking about buying a second MIFI device and I have a couple of old windows mobile devices (TYTN 2) stuck in the cupboard gathering dust and i thought hey some clever person must be able to bake a MIFI ROM for these devices to make them really useful.
Its a shame that thousands of these are discarded and the same people discarding them go out and buy brand new MIFI devices for their wifi ipads and laptops when they could recyle these to give them similar functionality for nothing.
We have a microsd card for a bit of LAN storage as with the MIFI .. anyone interested or is it time to bin windows mobile devices completely
I have to say though I have never seen WPA wifi tetheringon a kaiser :-(
rgds
ian
Wifi tethering on a Kaiser is completely doable and has been for some time now, running Android.
Drivers and such have been a bugger to get (or make from scratch), but I can tether my Kaiser via USB or WIFI and use my mobile network for internet.
I think WM6.0 allowed sharing the mobile data connection, I just never tried it on my own device while 6.0 was still on it.
P.S.: I will take those Kaisers off your hands for a partly donation...lol.
