Hello all,
It's great to have found this forum, I was getting a bit desperate from the lack of customer support on the HTC website...
I stumbled into some issues with my HTC Touch Diamond, and I hope some of you will know the answer to some of them
Let me number them for convenience in replying:
1) Battery charging while the phone is off results in the battery status only going up till about 80% in a few hours, and then staying there. No matter how long I charge my phone, it doesn't go higher than 80%. After a reset, the battery does indicate 100%. How can I fix this without having to reset every time after a charge? Why doesn't the phone "see" the battery is full while it's on? How long should it normally take to charge to 100%?
2) Old SMS messages that I transfered from my SIM card don't show up with the sender's name, but show the sender's number instead. This happens in the Touchflo 3D messages overview, but also in the "all messages" section. New messages from the same sender do show up well. How can I make the old messages also display the senders name?
3) Can I disable threaded SMS messages if I want to somehow?
4) Can I disable the "you are roaming" warning in the weather section? The network I use is *always* in "roaming mode", because my provider uses another provider's network. This cannot be fixed by using a different SIM card. Can I turn off these warnings? They are quite annoying.
5) Another thing that bugged me, is that the screen went off so quickly while in a call. FIXED WITH: \HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
6) There are some "music" files (ring, beep, bt_beep, callend) which show up in my music overview. Why? Where are they? I can't find them, but I want to get rid of them...
7) No snooze function for the alarm.....? Such a basic function, why doesn't this exist? Is it possible to "get" it somehow (while still keeping the alarm option in the Home/Today screen)?
8) When in threaded SMS messaging, it is impossible to select a message. When you click it, the sender screen opens, and only after canceling that screen, you end up with the message being selected. Only then you can delete it. Is it possible to just select the message without opening the sender screen?
9) Manage folders for SMS/MMS is greyed out. Why?
10) Birthday's from contacts don't show up on the "today" screen/calendar?
That's it for now, I already installed the advanced config tool, which of course adds great flexibility!
Thanks in advance for any replies!

and I also want to add my problem, when I use headphone to listen music, it will have a sound drop every 3-4 mins, but no problem when using BT handsfree or the internal speaker, any idea?
6) You've included the ring tones in your WMP library I think.
7) Yes you can snooze. When your alarm goes off, get the notification to the foreground and there'll be menu options to snooze.
8) Use the Up/Down hardware keys. (Default cursor position when you're in threaded mode is a new message in a text input box, but if you press the Up hardware key, it'll go to the last sent/received message in the thread).
Thanks!
About 6) though, I don't think it's the ringtones. There are many more ringtones on the phone than just these 4 files. Also, they don't appear in the ringtone selection screen. Any idea how i can search the phone to find those files? Windows (XP) search doesn't really want to search in my mobile device..
About 7) Ok, didn't see that. When I just wake up, I am too sleepy to think. Can't the snooze functionality be mapped standard to some button or another?

Hello,
It seems to me I keep seeing my identical twin right before my very eyes. Almost every complaint or everything that people are saying or having about this phone is a direct page out of my own book. All the problems and lack of support and no fix for any of this. My question is there even a fix to any of this so far I have found none. According to HTC just to do a hard factory reset (which really will not fix anything, accept to restore it to factory settings and succeed in wiping anything not factory installed off your phone). I at my wits end this is a $700 + (piece of crap) phone and supposed to be a top of the line and it barely functions.
How come they do not have even a flicker of an indication that the phone is charging while it is off, Such as a light on the phone itself not the charger? Also, why doesn't the batter last longer all together, and have a much needed better battery life?
My SMS (text) message question is why should we have to go into the all message area/section to see the entire message? Why can we not just be able to scroll up in the main message screen to reveal the rest of the message if it is longer than the screen?
Screen turning off during calls
About the screeen going off during a call is a problem with the phone. Believe me you are not the only one with this problem. Besides myself I have heard many complaints. I have also heard that the fix that you have listed should take care of the problem. However, someone said they tried it and it did not work. As for me I am still trying to get someone to explain how to use it. I am not sure where I am supposed to go in order to or how to use it. Please if you can I would greatly appreaciate any help at all you can offer me on this.
ALARM
There is a snooze function in the alarm. It can be set to 5 min, 15 min and some other settings. I believe (and if I am correct) it comes up after the alarm goes off with the different snooze times offered and you then select the one you would like. Hope this helps.
What I find annoying rather than too serious is that if you go back into a section where there is input the keboard will return to where you left it (like the number pad, rather than the initial main keyboard) instead of returning to the main keyboard.
I have these plus more issues with the phone.
One of my current and quite aggravating problems is that all settings do not remain as they have been changed to. Enevitabely they undoubtedly revert back to whatever their default settings were. For example the backligt while on battery setting. I keep changing it from its default of 10 sec to 2 min and it eventually at some random unknown point will automatically revert back to is default setting. Another one that does this is the calander I set it to open in month view however even though it keeps showing it is set to open at month view it never does.
Also I don't know about you. However, the phone is often sluggish, slow, and freezing up. While it is sluggish if I want to navigate somewhere I have to navigate in the opposite direction you normally navigate to get where you are trying to go.
3G does not work in the US. Which means Video calling will and does not work (on non US vers).
finding and downloading apps for the phone is difficult. I usually get messges saying the program is not a pocket pc enabled program (or something along those lines) and will not work.
when trying to view photos in the file explorer (because naturally that is the only place you can beam them from and not the main photo album screen) they are supposed to show up as icons so you can see which is which and send the ones you want, they always do not.
The Voice commander program takes forever to work if it even bothers to work at all (it almost never recognizes the command you are saying).
Scrolling/touch flow presents somewhat of a problem to me. Often it does not do what I am trying to do (such as scroll or navigate) instead it will be as act as if I have clicked on or selected an item/program/ contact or whatever instead of another function such as scrolling. For example if I am scrolling, and need to stop it the only way I know how is to lightly tap the screen. However, this not always but often or usually results in an item being activated as though it had been clicked on (such as a phone call being initated). That I find a bit comical or ironic because often I have difficulty making or placing a call when I am trying to.
These next few items are just personal notes or observations rather than problems. However, battery life is awful, and what in the world possessed them (HTC) not to have an external memory card slot? Whatever gave them the idea that 4GB is anywhere near even close to enough storage, pics, music, games, video. . . .NO WAY! Also, in my opinion the scroll menue bar on the bottom of the screen is too close toe the man screen above it. So, inevetibly if I am trying to scroll or navigate something in onre of the menues such as pics, music, or different cities weather I usually end up hitting the scroll menue bare and it navigates me away from what I am doing (which is typical with the touch flow feature, it usually gives me difficulty). In my opinion they just should have not had any of the jard buttons on the phone made the screen larger (the complete size/length of the phone) and had all of buttons/commands activated by/on the screen itself. Another annoying thing is that there is only one connection to the phone. So, if you want to listen to music via the headset witch undoubtedly suck the life out of the battery howe are u supposed to charge the phone?
Well, those are just SOME of my thoughts, problems, frustrations, complaints, advice, ect. . . There is pleanty more where they came from.
I would eternally be greateful if you or anyone else could offer anything at all regarding my problems with the phone or any other information, any developments, or anything at all in relation to the Diamond piece of crap.
Please feel free to let me know if I can return the favor and help you in anyway. I am happy to help. Good luck with your phone.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

what about a specific program like travel alarm. it's cheap and have very big buttons for the snooze. you don't have to look for options (5,10,15 min) you just preset the snooze and you keep pressing the "snooze" button till you''ll be late (happened to me)..hehehe

during the charging there is a very nice soft light going around (spinning) the action button. believe me, i am looking at it right now. maybe it's the htc trying to hypnotize it's happy customers...lol. when the charging is finished the light stop spinning

it's a step forward. before htc flow you had to go to messages and look for yr message. now you see the beginning of the message on the main screen (aha, that's the one!) and with a push of thumb (it better be not a big one) you go straight to yr important SMS. not bad, i think.

did you uncheck the "auto adjust backlight" option? it might work.

try sliding on the main screen you don't have to use the menu bar. you also can use the upper strip where the name of the menu is written.
as a conclusion and a friendly advice, be patient, try and get used to the new gadget. it's not so bad...i have my hopes in the rom that soon (i hope) we'll have from the pros that are doing it here just for fun. i was also taken by surprise in the first 24 hours. i did expected for this price to get a gadget that will make my coffee in the morning and voice guided me to the bathroom..lol! it isn't so. we had the courage (and the $) to buy the first batch. improvements are still to come.
Screen turning off during calls
this *feature* seems to be resolved see this post for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2304445&postcount=94
Dear Jennifer and others,
I am glad I am not alone. Yes, today I also discovered that after changing the 10 second backlight off on battery mode to 30 seconds, it jumps back automagically to 10 seconds. This happens without the option "auto adjust" being turned on.
This is extremely frustrating to say the least... Especially when in a light environment, and you can't see the screen without the backlight.
I'm going to try the offered solution for the screen turning off during a call, because the original solution didn't work for me either, I discovered today.
The battery life is starting to get to me, with the phone going dead on me after one night (idle of course) + one day (maybe 1 min calling, some texting, some google maps) of use. This is ridiculous...
Anyone found a solution for one of the other issues mentioned?
I would also like to point out, that I think the setting "disable startup animation" in the advanced config tool does not seem to work for the diamond.
I set this, but it still shows the HTC animation. However, the sound is gone

Thank you for your help I really appreaciate it. However, unfortunately I have that setting unchecked and it is still continuning to do that. I just went in there to check and it was of course back to 10 sec. I don't know how to fix it. The odd thing though is that it only does it with the setting for turning off the backlight while running on battery not while plugged in. I am not sure why but it is extremely aggravating. I am begining to think I am going to try and exchange it for the Cruise. It sounds like a much better phone. Though, I am waiting to see about the Diamond US ver. I am not sure what to do. I want to try the sollution for the backlight while on a call problem. However, I am clueless about how to do it. Apparently from what I understand I need to get a program in order to make the changes and I am not exactly sure how to get the program and install it then how to do it once I have the program. I would love some help with that. Thanks again.
Jennifer
The way I did it is as follows:
1) install active sync / your mobile device on your pc/laptop, using the cd's that came with the phone.
2) download and use this software to enable RAPI: http://www.breaksoft.com/Download/MRE/EnableRAPI.zip
(read about it on http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Posts/2005/8/Mobile_Registry_Editor_FAQ.aspx)
3) download mobile registry editor: http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
4) run it, browse to the settings as mentioned, double click them and change their values:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall set from 5 to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCa ll from 5 to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormandDisplayD uringCall from 1 to 0
(where HKLM stands for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
5) soft reset your phone and it should work...?
Good luck, let me know if it works.
What bugs me most is the following:
If i turn off the screen of my phone by pressing the on/off switch and i recieve a SMS the SMS-tone won't sound.
When i press the on/off button again to use my phone the tone will sound, butt i recieved the message half an hour ago :S.
The only way to avoid this is to lock the phone and not turn off the screen, which results in a stand-by time of only 8-10 hours (not sufficient for my use).
Are there any fixxes for this problem?

Ok, typical because i sometimes got a message, but 9 outta 10 times i didn't.
Changing the registry setting fixes my problem and completely awakes my phone. Exactly what i want.
Outstanding issues
Alright, so as for me, the following issues are still not resolved:
1) Battery charging while the phone is off results in the battery status only going up till about 80% in a few hours, and then staying there. No matter how long I charge my phone, it doesn't go higher than 80%. After a reset, the battery does indicate 100%. How can I fix this without having to reset every time after a charge? 4) There are some "music" files (ring, beep, bt_beep, callend) which show up in my music overview. Why? Where are they? I can't find them, but I want to get rid of them... They are not the ringtones of the phone.
5) Manage folders for SMS/MMS is greyed out. Why?
6) Birthday's from contacts don't show up on the "today" screen/calendar?
7) after changing the 10 second backlight off on battery mode to 30 seconds, it jumps back automagically to 10 seconds. This happens without the option "auto adjust" being turned on.
8) The setting "disable startup animation" in the advanced config tool does not seem to work for the diamond. I set this, but it still shows the HTC animation. However, the sound accompanying the animation is gone.
If anyone has a solution to any of the above, I will be eternally grateful
I think alot of these niggles will be solved by a new rom update...now when HTC get their fingers out of their asses and provide the owners of the Diamond one is entirely another question.
Other than reg editing i dont think theres much you can do unless someone here develops a new better rom to solve alot of these issues you guys seem to be having.

I dont really know to be honest as this is my very first foray into Windows Mobile...but if its anything like WinXp or Vista reg editing then i suppose if you start messing around with values...you might find that you no longer have a phone that works properly but as i said i really dont know what sort of damage you could do with the phone via reg editing/hacking etc.
Personally for me, when i get my Diamond ill only make the changes that have been proven to work ie the Diamond tweaking thread. Other than that i dont think ill be mucking around with the registry too much.

The problems above are not Diamond specific. They exists in all WM devices.
2) Once transfered to SIM card, the format of the phone number might changed (compared to the one in your contacts). This might be the cause of the problem.
4) These files are located in \Windows folder. Don't have Diamond, so don't know how to solve this problem for you. Normally most players I used so far has a way to exclude some folders.
5) You are not able to create any folders for SMS/MMS. That is why it is greyed out. This is always true since I use WM2003SE to WM6.1
6) If you create contacts using any WM devices, the Birthday appointment is not automatically created. If you sync your contacts to your PC (with Outlook installed), Outlook will created the appointments for you and they will be copied over to your device. Or, if you installed 3rd party PIM (ex, Pocket Informant), normally 3rd party PIM will automatically created the birthday appointments for you.
Anyone know how to disable the charge complete sound from this phone?
I plugged the phone in to charge and went to bed. 3 hours later the phone started beeping non-stop until I physically came down and acknowledged the notification.
What an annoying thing to happen especially since I was SLEEPING! lol
(If this has been asked before, I apologize, I tried searching for this both here and the internet and all I could find was a hack for the WindowsMobile Omnia phone).
Thanks.

put your phone on silent when you go to bed!
surely you do not sleep with your phone ringer on do you?
the alarm clock works fine when the phone is on silent.
Mark
It would be nice to be able to disable the charging complete notification, and leave all other ringers and notifications turned on. I have to leave my ringers on 24/7 for emergency work calls.

hmm
you could try reduce the notification volume down to zero at bed time, Im not sure the battery charge is regarded as notification, either that or "system" volume.
if you want that automated, get tasker, a VERY good app to automates tuff, like change your volume levels for different things at different times of day or based on location etc etc, amazing app.
Mark.

I have a solution, that works perfectly, and it also means your phone wont bug you EVERY single notification (otherwise you get woken up by spam in your gmail).
1) Upgrade your firmware.. The latest firmware still has the "charged thing", but its done a different way.
2) Set your global Notification tone to silent in settings, but leave volume loud.
2) Set a tone in Messaging (so you get SMS), and any other applications you want to be notified with..
Boom, no annoying bleeping sound, and spam wont wake you.. If you have vibrate turned on though, your phone will still vibrate in your pocket when you get an email

Which firmware do you have because I've tried that but it's still not working?...
Edit --> Better yet where do you change the "global Notification tone"?
I can change the SMS tone, but I don't see the global Notification tone where I can change that to silent but still get SMS sounds?...
I use an automatic profile switcher its free from market and it sets my phone to silent at 21:00 and back to normal at 07:30 simples
Do wish 2.1 had this. I hate the fact that every notification uses the same tone from downloads complete to new emails and new text messages. It's kinda like moving backwards that you can't even set custom sms tones.

That is the file I delete to get rid off the beep that comes when the phone is charged to 100%
Been that on all firmwares/custom roms Ive been on.
Let me preface this by saying that after changing this setting and 20 hours later with multiple separations of phone and watch, I have yet to miss a notification and battery life is much much better. My specific problems were: Watch would randomly stop receiving notifications. I would realize this after a few hours go by without any notifications and pull my phone out and see what I've missed. This would happen despite the Wear app showing 'connected' status. Another issue I had was giving a voice command and after a few seconds the watch would return a 'disconnected'message, again the Wear app showed connected. All of this under known working network connections, whether Wi-Fi or cellular. I was also experiencing what I feel is short battery life at about 14 hours per day. I've had and used the watch for two weeks now and have restarted it many many times.
The following is the ONLY thing I have changed since the major improvement in performance. I don't have the depth of knowledge to prove or describe why this worked for me, and maybe it wasn't the cause, but I (knock wood) have a perfectly operating watch now with the battery life indicating about 2 days remaining at noon today.
Go to Settings> Bluetooth> and select the settings icon on your connected device. Then select 'connection access' and choose 'automatic'. Mine defaulted to 'always ask'.. I'm guessing this caused a hangup with the connection between Wear app and watch leading to my problems.
Edit: I'll add that my phone is an LG G2 on 4.4.2 , rooted and running xdabbeb's Rom.
Edit 2: I reset my watch, synced the watch via the Wear app on phone and NOT the Bluetooth screen and now I'm running strong after two days. Made sure automatic was checked as well.
Bugger
I don't have that option in my bluetooth settings
I don't have any problems with mine so far but just checked my settings and it was on always ask.
Could anyone confirm what it should be set as? I have changed mine to automatic anyways.
Thanks for the heads up.
Phil
Not seeing that option in Android 5.0.1 on my HTC One GE. But I have not been having any of the issues mentioned in the OP.

Here is a pic of the screen where you make selection. Always Ask is NOT what you want, which is what is pictured. Select Automatic. Sounds like this isn't available on Android 5.0 from what I see in responses so far.
I don't think I saw this option on any of the ROMs I ran, but there may be devices out there that have it and default to it, and this one would really break wear connectivity - so it may help someone someday.
I'm on 5.0, lg g3 and have both options.
Although i havnt had a problem with always ask and only switched it to automatic tonight.
Judging from the description, it will work as long as the watch stays connected, but a reconnect from the watch side would ask for confirmation (and could be possibly even silently denied under some circumstances).
Phone -> Watch = no problem
Watch -> Phone = problem
and it's possible (and likely) there are more connections going on than just the primary one, and if the connection is flaky there might be a dead one and a new one from either side...
you could just have been lucky, so far
My issues returned last night. I left my watch at home and went to dinner and out with friends, came back home after several hours. I left the watch in theater mode while I was out and over night. I woke up this morning, put watch on and realized the battery had tanked overnight and I was no longer receiving notifications, again, wear app showing connected. I looked at the battery graph for the watch and it is totally flat while I was out last night and appears to tank fast as soon as I got home and my phone was in proximity to the watch again. It's like it is constantly trying to handshake with the phone or something. The only thing that fixes this problem is a reboot of the Watch itself. I still think the connection setting was helpful because I have yet to see battery life like that or a solid link for that long. I would love to know what exactly is going on here. Bad hardware?
For the sake of comparison, I have android wear in my pull down bar saying 'connected, running sync loop' 100% of the time. It never goes away. Is this what everyone else sees?
That's what I have also since I own the watch.

That would be because you have Android Debugging turned on in the phone settings.. Means nothing..

Nope, shows also when out of the box so without android debugging.
Just a normal operation notification
I just discovered another possible contributor to connectivity issues: I just tried to use my watch to voice dial and after multiple attempts I got the disconnected message. I took my phone out and Wear app says connected and I had full 4G signal. My phone is set with a pattern lock. After unlocking it and checking the above mentioned, I tried the watch again and it worked. Could locking your phone have something to do with these problems?

I'm definitely reverting back to 5.1.1 when I get the time and energy to fool with it .
sounds like that was written by someone who hasn't even tried marshmallow yet. I have yet to experience any missed notifications, alarms or any issues relating to time in any way. If some apps are being affected by this then its a sign to the developer to fix their ****ty code because all of my apps relating to time at all have been working just fine and alot of them are still the same version they were on lollipop. Doze has improved my batter significantly. It sounds like this article was probably written by a developer who cant code properly and instead of improving his skills he'd rather complain and convince everyone to stay away from updates because he is unwilling to evolve. Even the article looks like it was written in paint...
I had indeed a wrong time bug some days ago...really strange and worrying, a reboot fixed it. First time ever since Android Froyo that I experienced something like that.
That author seems to think that Marshmallow's Doze is a horrible thing that breaks all apps that rely on background services, namely alarms and notifications, and couldn't possibly be fixed in 10 years (rather than a few months) due to Google's horrible mistake (rather than devs not fixing their code).
Frankly, it sounds like a bunch of hyperbole.

He's wrong about how doze works. And if he's in the camp that doesn't understand it nor wants to rewrite his app. Then yeh he's the idiot group that Google is targeting and was writing garbage code anyway.
lol complete nonsense, my alarm has worked everyday since i flashed M, even on dev previews...the only issues i have with M are really the "slow to connect wifi when using toggles" and the weird wifi consumption on battery stats
Another annoying issue on M is that if your leave your phone longer in standby mode (display off), wifi turns off and you stop recieving notifications until you turn your phone on again. This is with wifi set to "never turn off", etc.

This actually happened with me a couple of days back, I was travelling, so I put my phone connected to a power bank and went for a nap, woke up to see phone switched off, switching it on throws me a 2nd September date set on my device. Had to manually set the date as no network was available to automatically set the date from servers.

This I had been noticing these days just because of WhatsApp Web. When in standby, WhatsApp Web shows phone not connected error. Just waking the phone reconnects to the WiFi, but happens every 30-40mins.
I have a feeling that folks who never see these problems have their phones charging at night and doze mode doesn't happen when you are charging. I have no convenient way to charge my phone near my bed, so it is not charging and totally idle all night. Email and messaging completely stops. Only the stock alarm clock works. My medication reminder stops working. It might as well be turned off completely. Plus when you do wake up and turn on the phone, all the pent up alerts come through and scare the hell out of you. I hate doze mode.
Settings -> Battery -> ... (menu)-> Battery Optimization --> All apps --> Select whatsapp, etc... and select not optimized.
Test again.
You're welcome.
I already disabled optimization in the battery settings for all the apps that weren't working. They still don't work after sitting overnight. It looks as if that setting has absolutely no effect.

This is a real problem. I tested this on a Nexus 5. The device seems to enter Doze after about 1 hour and this is what happens.
What does work in Doze mode:
- Telephone: call can be heard.
- Alarm: alarm can be heard
What does NOT work in Doze mode:
- Receiving mail notifications directly: it seems to wait for the maintenance window. There is no "ping" from my GMail. No lock screen notification until I picked it up. I turned off battery optimalization as suggested. Like Claghorn says, it doesn't make a difference. When I was sleeping, the time difference between sending the mail and getting a notification can be hours. That is not acceptable: I want to determine whether or not I get a message. I got no control over Doze, except plugging it in. Also, when it sits on the desk at work I need to pick it up or turn the screen on every so often, because I don't know if it "dozed" off again.
Works partially:
- Notification light: It works once mail passes through the maintenance window. It does NOT work before the maintenance window.
I tested all of this with a unrooted, updated Nexus 5. Topic Starter and Claghorn have good points. Why can't I turn this off? I don't want this. I want notification on time, with ping, right now. If I don't I will turn the volume off or set priorities. They could have told me this behavior in a mail or during the update. Important mail from work, family comes in hours late. Not happy with this at all.
Tried all sorts of things, nothing seems to help. And no, battery optimalization is either not enough or has nothing to do with it. I love the Nexus 5. Marshmallow seems to be much smoother than Lollipop. I was happy with the update until I discovered this. Now, I am fustrated. I expect the phone to inform me when I need to be informed. Most days I don't need to save 10% of power anyway. For the first time I want to either root the phone and go back to Lollipop or even Kitkat. I don't know what else can be done. Fustrated.

A quick suggestion -
You may use Doze Mode Editor and edit the script so that your phone never enters Doze mode.
That way you can enjoy Marshmallow without Doze.

Thanks, I will look into that. I'd like to keep Mashmallow as a whole if possible. I think it is a good update in general.
OK, I've looked at the doze mode editor thread and I find that the descriptions of the parameters I can set to be totally confusing, however, the flowchart pointed at in that thread seems to indicate that if I set the "inactive_to" value to something like 24 hours, then all the other doze mode nonsense is unlikely to ever happen (because I'll probably turn on my phone at least once every 24 hours). Does that seem like the best way to essentially turn off doze mode?

I will look into this over the weekend. I find it odd that there isn't simply a switch to turn Doze off, which is a pity. It seems to me it's part of saving energy in general. A switch under Battery would do nicely. It should not be this complicated. That said, I think the UI of Marshmallow is silky smooth, much better than Lollipop. Marshmallow in general in good. It' just this that annoys me.
i'm baffled by google's aversion to end user config. This kind of b.s. is how I found xda and drove me to become a chronic flashaholic. All or nothin I guess.

I get the feeling Google assumes the customer is a developer. A few examples:
- The Nexus 5 does have a notification light: I didn't know until I read 5 reviews and even then I couldn't find any documentation on it. Needed an external app to get it working.
- Battery indicator: I like to have small numbers indicating battery charge: it could be done by hacking KitKat and Lollipop I think. Then at Marshmallow finally there's a (hidden) switch.
- I don't recall having any user guide in the Nexus 5 package. Not that I needed one. But some landing page doing a walkthrough would have been nice. Although there are some walkthroughs in every app
Not fatal flaws, but you wonder why does it need to be that difficult. It scares people away. Not me. I handed the Nexus 5 to some friends on numerous occasions and most found it too "empty". As for me, I want all developer stuff on. So it suprised me, there is no Doze fine tuning. Again, overall I give the Nexus a 8 or 9 out of 10. It fits me. In general I like it. So it's just constructive criticism. The empty layout and raw speed of the Nexus 5 works good in development of apps afterall.
Last night I ran an adb command (generated by the doze mode editor app) to set inactive_to to 24 hours (86400000 milliseconds). I then set an alarm for the next morning in the "Alarm Clock Plus" app (which completely ceased to function after Marshmallow showed up). This morning, the alarm actually went off on time, but the big "Dismiss" button it draws on the screen was totally non-functional. I had to hit the power button to get control (which then caused a popup saying alarm clock plus was non-responsive). I have no idea what caused all that behavior, but at least the alarm actually went off.
Also, with doze mode essentially disabled (in theory anyway), the power dropped from 100% in the evening all the way down to 97% in the morning.
With the exception to facebook and game type apps, Google's apps are the only ones I find that excessively waste resourxes and need to be forced to sleep. If they would get off the constant location polling, media scanning, and logging or at least tone it down a bit some they wouldnt need to implement thier half baked versions of solutions that they hijacked from xda devs
Before I even get started, I know CM13 is outdated/discontinued/insecure. I'm aware, I'm stuck with it for a while.
I've been trying to get the notification LED on my phone to work the way I want. I had no problems doing this with Light Flow on my old Samsung GS4. Things were not so peachy until I was reminded Cyanogenmod has built in controls for the notification LED. I have everything set up just the way I want it, it demos just fine when I'm punching in the settings. The problem is it won't work reliably when I set my phone down.
With my GS4, if the screen was off and I had notifications, the LED blinked accordingly. My N6P doesn't do that. I've caught it blinking a few times throughout my day, and had friends send me notifications while it's sitting on my desk, so I know it works sometimes. But the LED won't stay that way forever, eventually it just decides my notifications aren't important enough to me and stops blinking.
I'm having a hard time really pinning down it's logic because it seems to just work when it wants to. I have a theory that the way the 6P is really aggressive about saving battery, whatever service controls the LED is being woken up when a new notification comes in and eventually being put back to sleep, but I simply don't know enough to say. While I'm at it, I don't think I have any way of assigning priority to the different notifications (a text message is more important than an email, for example), so my color code scheme might as well go out the window.
I don't know why google seems to hate the notification LED so much, every time I try to google the issue I just get tons of pages telling me how Google hid it away and you can turn it back on in the settings for AOSP. Obviously none of that is helpful, maybe someone here has an answer?
@FoxtrotZero: Wrong forum. This is the Nexus 6 forum. Your device is here.
GFDI, didn't even know there was another device called the Nexus 6. Thanks.
