Replace $ with £ on virtual keyboard - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have a Vodafone v1615 and the system settings are set to the UK. However the virtual keyboard has the $ sign. Is there any way to permanently set this to a £ sign?

Use PocketCM Keyboard, it is free and you can create your own layout.

Wm6 Remote Access Error

Had to Remote access a SBS 2003 Server from my Vario III "for real" the first time today.
Seems if you use the on screen keyboard (large Keys - No numbers showing), when you press the 123 button to access the numberpad, the numbers don't work on the destination machine. (Update: The 1 does, not no others)
Tried with Small keys (Number showing) and the PCM Keyboard - same effect - only the "1" transmitted, all other number keys are inoperable.
Same goes for using the real keyboard, as the Fn button has to be used, and this seems to affect the remote access (ie no numbers appear)
As I use complex passwords, I had to enter these on the application page before connecting - no problem there, but not being able to type numbers when connected is no good.
Any ideas - there doesn't appear to be an about/version screen on WM6 Remote Access.
Bump!
Has anyone got Remote Access to work AND type numbers?

Customizing the "àü" key

Hi everyone!
Is it possible (and how) to customize the "àü" key on hardware keyboard? I mean: adding new characters, deleting characters, changing the order of characters you can write with this key.
Connect your phone in ActiveSync mode to your computer and open Phone\Windows\sym.0409.txt.
There it is. I'm not sure you can add more characters, but you can move them around. Each line is representing one hardware key. Each time you press àü it jumps to the next character on the line in that text file.
I use PQzII and AE button plus to remap the key as a CTRL key. Use AE button plus to remap the AU key to ESC key and then PQzII to map Esc as CTRL. AE button also allows you to give double press and long keypresses so you can get things like a windows key with the phone closed.
Thank you!

Could you explain which exact settings you used in PQzii? I have it installed along with AE Button Plus. I was able to map 'au' to ESC, and then after setting PQzii to map CTRL to ESC, it doesn't function properly. It has even froze my X1 a couple of times.
I have nothing else checked or enabled in PQzii, as I only want to use the 'au' button as CTRL (for cut/copy/paste).
More details would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!
sym text file in windows folder is read only,
tried editing it from my computer, (deactivate read only)
but just wont do.
works like a charm
copy it to your pc, untag readonly, modify your keysequence ,save it,
make it readonly again, copy it back to your x1, instant working

Thats strange, it worked for me. Make sure your PQzii version is the right one, all I did was remap Esc to Ctrl and use AE button to remap AU to Esc
If you can't overwrite through ActiveSync, copy it directly on the phone using Total Commander.
The "àü" key and Htc HD keyboards
In my X1 the "àü" key and the predictive system work well in the phisical keyboard before Touch HD keyboards installation, but they stop working after HD keyboards installation.
If I uninstall the cab file they back to work
Do you have any idea about this?

yes, because the predictive function, the SE specific keys (e.g. the "àü" key) are enabled via the IME DLL file (compime.dll) which got overwritten by the TouchHD keyboard cab (t9ime.dll)

Is not possible to solve this problem?
It's be wonderfull to have the TouchHD keybord working perfectly inside the X1!
It's wierd, my au key still works with the touch HD keyboard installed.
Yes, it worked:
Copied the sym txt to desktop, unchecked read only
edited it, rechecked read only
copied it back to device root folder
copied it to windows directory with total commander
thanks

hardware key "au"?
which CAB file did you install this so I can take alook?
Is there any list with mappings between the characters and those HEXA-numbers in the sym0409.txt -file?
I'd like to change sym0409.txt such a way that ä ja ö would be the first option after pressing a+"au" and o+"au" . Anyone could tell which Hexa-numbers to move around? Or are they in order for vowels starting from a and certain number of special characters per vowel? If yes, then I think I can find what I want.

I do not have the sym.txt file. I found in windows directory SymPad0410.txt, sympad0409.txt and sympad0409_phone and i've tried your procedure (copy in desktop - uncheck read only - check again read only and copy back in root then in windows folder) with these but doesn't work.
And however what I had to edit?
which PQzii do you use. There are a lot generalny for HTC
I can confirm that it worked for me too without the "copy to desktop" stuff, as i use a mac and syncmate did not allow me to fetch that file.
This is how you can do it on the X1 itself:
1. I installed total commander on the X1
2. In total commander i copied sym0409.txt to \my Documents
3. I also copied a backup to \Temp (Thats very advisable!)
4. I went to \My Documents (still in total commander), highlighted sym0409.txt and pressed the edit button. (the icon is a red pencil in front of a white sheet)
5. Edit the file and save it. It should have more or less the same amount of bytes if you only re-ordered it (498 B, i think)
6. Copy the file back to \Windows
7. Test by starting a new application and write stuff
If it failed:
8. Copy the file from \Temp back to \Windows

Japanese input on WWE rom

Well, just to start things off I will mention that this bunch-o-tweaks runs on both WWE roms and the only Japanese rom on this board: the X04HT rom that qtotter was so generous in dumping upon us .
To get JP input running on WWE rom WITHOUT that tacky keyboard garbage:
Install the following:
1. Diamond TF3D Config
2. LetsJapanNo6.cab
3. IME_31J_F.cab
4. SpbKeyboard4.arm.cab
In any order you choose. SpbKeyboard4.arm.cab is the nice find I made tonight.
So the order is not terribly important but it is how I did it. The TF3D config is always installed anyways.
So after installed TF3D and LetsJapan, reboot the device. You will see that your Japanese contacts in the contacts screen and any other Japanese you have on your device will change from random boxes to actual characters. The point of having TF3D config installed is so that at this point you can change the TF3D display to Japanese and set the date settings for TF3D to display the correct Japanese date: yyyy年MM月DD日 .
Next, install IME_31J_F.cab. This will install the crappy xvga soft keyboard etc. Everytime I see this I feel sick. It's not so bad with the X01HT or Tytn or maybe even the touch pro, because there is a hardware keyboard. I like the idea of typing with my finger and not with my stylus; that's why I got a diamond.
Next install spbkeyboard.arm.cab. This cab basically updates the gui for the ime_31j_f keyboard and integrates the old ctrl-shift-shift-ctrl into a simple button.
I don't know if anyone wants to take it from here. By "take it from here" I mean, figure out some way to combine the files from letsjapan, with ime31j and have the input as spbkeyboard so that this entire process can be somewhat streamlined.
I found the spbkeyboard on a Japanese site so I would assume it will work with a Japanese ROM. I am going to flash my diamond right now with qtotter's ROM and give it a go.
I just wish that ROM was more streamlined. I am surprised no Japanese have cooked any versions of the Softbank ROM yet. I can't find one anywhere
RAR file with all 4 cabs inside can be found HERE
Diamond TF3D shouldn't be required, but of course it's a nice config tool to have. The two required components are LetsJapanNo6 and IME_31J_F (along with some reg edits), all of which have been rolled up into a single easy-to-install cab file by flinx1 over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550
SpbKeyboard4 is an optional keyboard which can utilize Japanese input provided by MSIME. There are many other soft keyboards. Softbank also has a nice custom 12-key input which some people are currently working on extracting into a CAB file.
That is the "Advanced Wnn" that all japanese HTC Diamond phones (not only the softbank one) have as default (replacing the T9).
You could also use the gesture10key theme for the touchkeysip.

http://www.geocities.co.jp/lauhangwoo/zero3/gesture10key040.zip
In order to use this you need to set up the gesture10key_w.txt as the theme.

The spbkeyboard works as standalone on the JP rom. Just go into options and enable JP.
edit:
So I have been using this spbkeyboard with my JP rom but I have come to the conclusion that it sucks balls for entering JP. So I will use the pretty decent 10key for JP input and the spbkeyboard for EN input. My reasoning:
The spbkeyboard seems to be limiting the number of possible kanji options for a certain word. It also lacks the ability to enter katakana directly (unless I am missing something). It also lacks the ability to enter a symbol while keeping the dotted line under the word to help you select the correct katakana or marks, IE:
マーク
郵便番号
For mark (above), it allows you to enter ま then when you press the SYMbol button, the dotted line under ま disappears. So you are unable to turn まーく into マーク. You could do it character by character but that just takes too freaking long.
For 〒 mark, you typically enter 郵便番号 and then press space to get 〒. There is no option for the mark. In the 10key, you can enter the symbol screen (different than that of the spbkeyboard symbol screen) and enter the 〒.
Ok, enough of my ramblings.
I installed spbkeyboard and couldn't find any jp support? Also asked spb and they said no?

No space after entering a word

My Diamond don't add a space after entering a word (Using the T9)
On Settings > Input > Word Completion I have ticked "add a space after word" without any result
Any idea ???
Try in another application like word or something. Check on another keyboard if possible.
not works in any application and any keyboards.
May be an obvious one but use the space key at the end of a word rather than return.
yes, but if I choose one of the words proposed by t9, the word was inserted without any space after.
My HTC Cruise put the space. My diamond no.
mine too 1.93 rom

Solution: Bluetooth keyboards pairs but doesn't show up in list of input methods

My new Microsoft Wedge keyboard was pairing with my Nexus 7 but not showing up in the list of Keyboard & Input Methods under Language & input. The problem was that I had modified /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl earlier when I had the AmazonBasics keyboard (since returned for a variety of reasons) and I restored Generic.kl from my backup (cp Generic.kl,bak Generic.kl); however the umask is 077 and that made Generic.kl have -rw------- permissions instead of the necessary -rw-r--r-- so I had to chmod 644 Generic.kl and it works fine now.
A small glitch, but the kind of thing that might catch someone, so I wanted to post in case it helps someone.
