I've patched together a working version of JJ's Black Dialer from some cabs of his, plus some patched bitmaps from me. If you follow these instructions exactly it will work. I did this within days of getting my TyTN II and have yet to need to do a hard reset, it's very stable.
I posted screen shots of it in the themes thread and have had PM requests for it so here goes. If someone with the skills could make this into a single cab, I'd be jazzed as I don't have those skills...
Black Shadow Black Dialer CONFIGURATION - Installed on Kaiser**
BACKUP FIRST!!!!!
1. Install Part1.CAB then Soft Reset
2. Install Part2.CAB (**Kaiser installs but says it fails) DON'T Soft Reset (press cancel after it is installed --> then go to the next step)
3. Install Part3.CAB then Soft Reset
YOU MUST FOLLOW THE ABOVE EXACTLY TO THE LETTER OTHERWISE IT WONT WORK.
Once the above procedure is completed, it takes around 2mb of storage space.
This non-video dialer is the basic WM6 (Crossbow) one and on Black Dymond 3.5
He was actually trying to port a dialer that matches the current NON-VIDEO one in the Shadow.
This was unsuccessful due to complication with incompatable DLL's for video telephony etc.
NOTE: Once you have completed this procedure you will permanently lose (well until you HR) the DEFAULT big-button dialer in your PPC.
After installing this, you will find that the background is too bright in the upper right corner to see the Bluetooth Headset Icon and Call Timer
as the original Black rom had black icons and Kaiser has white icons. I also found that the end call buttons were the wrong colors on certain screens (like during a call, the End Call button was gray when it should be Red). I modified the affected bitmaps to correct all of these and include them as the last step.
4. Unzip the fixed bitmaps and copy them into the Kaiser's windows folder and the dialer should be complete.
As I say, it's not very clean to install, but it works very well for me
Here's the screen shot again. I also attached a shot of the contactCM with the WM6 black theme cause they go great together!
Can someone make an OEM of this?
One of the guys over at Modaco has tweaked the Orange video dialler to black. It isnt quite as smart as the black dialler, but it works - with video!
Thanks RemE. This worked great.
Finally I got rid of that horrible AT&T WM5 dialer!
I've been using this dialer for quite some time now and it's great. But recently I don't know what happened.. some of the boxes like call history, speed dial, etc all became a white box.
Do I need to install the files again to fix it?
What uninistall that tool??

I haven't seen that before, you can try a re-install. If that doesn't work, then I think hard reset and re-install may be the only way back.

Not sure what you mean, did you install the 3 Cabs first, then copy the bitmaps into the \windows folder on the phone?
As far as I know, the only way to remove this dialer is to perform a hard reset.

I have been recently messing about flashing various WM6 ROM's to see which one I might settle on, however I have come across one issue which annoys me so much that I would choose not to go down the WM6 route.
On the phone dialler I now have a bar going across the screen which displays two lines of my contacts. I don't want this. I want the usual phone layout that I have used for the past dozen ROM upgrades.
Is there a way to remove this? I have tried all the settings on the phone but to no avail. Will it dissapear if I re-skin the phone with something from Eten?
What surprises me is that I have not seen anyone else mentioning it on any of the WM6 threads - Does everyone like this new layout?
Vista Dialer
I also found this annoying. I downloaded the following
Jimm98y_vista_dialer.zip
in the development/hacking section. I think it is much better than the old WM5
dialer skin. You can see the screen shots there.
You will probably also need to edit smartskey.ini to allow the dpad to function in the Phone app. With the Underground ROM that was a pain if I remember correctly as it is a system and RO file. I ended up making a cab that created a \Program Files\Smartskeyand copied my smartskey files to that folder. Then stopping smartskey, deleting the shortcut in \Startup and then running Smartskey from the \Program Files folder.
What a PIA! Another reason I went back to the Orwell ROM (after I took the green comm manager with me..)

Thanks Tony. Just done it and it worked a beaut.
I want to change the size of the buttons on the dialpad. I have found the approriate files and registry setting, have changed the size of the .bmp files, but when I look at the dialer, the buttons are "cutoff" as the distance between the buttons has NOT changed.
So how do you change the distance between the buttons on the dialpad? Is there some file (transparent gif etc) that is holding the space between the buttons?
Thanks,
Robert
You don't. It's part of the program. Only thing I think you can really do is install a different dialer program.
Anyone find a way to install the type of dialpad that comes on the Touch - I tried the cab made to put it on the mogul but it just doesn't fit properly.
Thanks
Here ya go. Install this dialer (I didn't make it, I get no credit & unfortunately I'm an idiot & can't give proper credit to the XDA-DEV member that made it b'cause I can't remember & am currently to lazy to search) but it works.
Just install the cab file & soft reset.

The ZombieNexus skins work just fine with the stock AT&T Dialpad (including the HTC SmartDialer program).

Will look like this... And I'm not sure about on teh Kaiser, but on the Wizard, if you installed this, uninstalling it will not work. So it took a hard reset to go back to the original. Personally I really like how this dialer works (and just put it on my new Tilt) but not everyone likes the changes in it.
Everything is quiet like the grave... I haven't heard or read a single word if there is anything new in this rom except the tiny bug fixes announced by HTC...
Anybody who already upgraded, have you noticed something new???
Hey
Apart from the official line heres what ive noticed (in twelve hours)
1. Sliding Bar answer on incoming calls
2. Text input keys are smaller so that you can actually see whats on the screen when youre writing (sic)
3. Ever so slight speed improvement on finger sliding
4. Video Call re-replaced with contacts (life saver)
5. Might just be me but the fonts seem sharper and slightly smaller.
6. Add a word in text messaging for example now gives a tick and a cross instead of "add"
Just random little things Ive noticed but as they say, its the little things that count eh!
no more flipping envelope when going to mail it's just there...
and some speed improvements, but in winmo only (not touchflo).
hey just a couple more
7. When connecting to PC via USB you get a 3rd choice - internet sharing (as well as active sync and disk drive)
8. HTC flo text message section now has a forward option as well as reply and delete - no need to view all messages to forward
ill keep you posted (or not if no one is interested)
Thanks for the replies
I feel like the Sliding Bar on answering calls helped me decide to upgrade, even though I'll loose the flipping envelopes
Sliding Bar is good
Ability to forward text message from Touch flo is good
The rest are the icing on the cake!!!
Good luck - I had a bit of a scare with my upgrade last night - it stopped on 60% and told me the image file was corrupt. Worked second time though from the same file???
First bug: if you have activated a security PIN (like me) you can't block the phone keeping pressed the phone down button. The screen goes black for a fraction of second but the phone doesn't block.
Another thing I didn't notice before (so I'm not sure if it was the same in previous versions): you can add only 15 persons to your favorite contacts (the "Add to Favorites" buttons just disappears). BTW, is there any tweak to increase this limit?
its always been 15
I use speed dials - easier and possibly limited to 100 (not sure)
The favourites has always annoyed me - you cant seem to change the order in which they appear and they look boring without a picture (IMO)!
There's also a new Java engine, better than the old one. At least better for Opera Mini 4.2, fonts are now bigger and easier to read.
A recommended update.

My envelopes are flipping fine.... just as they always have!
And for anyone's who's interested; if you've been using any of the cooked ROM's which have been released recently, you won't notice any difference with this official release because the ROM cookers have been using v2.03 for weeks!
9. Agenda from home screen works correct now. Choose the view u'd like to see, (day, week, month whatever) and it will open up correctly right now, when opening Agenda from home screen.
10. When u select agenda or calls on the home screen, it will be selected by green. When u finished looking agenda or calls, and return to the home screen, the green selected option is gone, a clear screen with no green. (before the thing was always green when u turned back, it frustrated me )
Just 2 things i recognized!
I saw it at Singapore web site http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=483&news_id=44

They do indeed, but thanks to Facebook I have pictures for all of my favorite friends...
I'll give a look to speed dial too
with this new rom, i have a problem:
when i receive a message and open it with tf3d i can't type prompt.
i have to move down the text to see the last message and then i have to put the cursor on the correct place.
Its a rom update but is it aswell a radio update?

Noobie question,
As The HTC website won't accept my Orange UK Diamond S/N, would it be okay to download from another source, or do I have to wait until Orange to approve the newer ROM, and publish on their website confused
many thanks

As far I now Orange use a own brand rom and when you start using a other rom you will lose your waranty, ofcoarse you can get a other rom just ask someone here to upload it, but you can use than aswell a coocked rom.

Yeah, correct. Orange will distribute their own ROM's.
11. AKU version has been updated to allow synchronisation to two PC's (fixing the Activesync error 0x86000107).
Hey
A little bug that I found last night - I installed nadavvi-nadavvi-call-history cab - which installs an extra call history tab to the touchflo menu
Afterwards everytime i tried to access sms through touchflo i kept getting unexpected errors in manila.exe.
As soon as i uninstalled the call history tab sms started working again. Shame as i had this installed with the older rom with no probs and it is quite handy.
I've decided to do the upgrade tonight but I have a question:
All my apps are installed in the 4GB Internal Storage (Not the phone memory). Will the Internal Storage be viped out aswell during the upgrade?
If not, I guess all apps will be useless anyway since the registry is viped. Do you recommend uninstalling all the apps before the rom upgrade???
I'm trying to remove mUn BackGround4AllPages "v0.2" using remove programs but keep getting the following a message saying "it was not completely removed, do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs (YES/NO)?" When I hit yes, the program is still part of the list WTF.
The main reason I'm trying to remove mUn BackGround4AllPages "v0.2" is because I started having issues sending pic text messages after doing a soft reset the next day. I'm not sure if this is where the problem lies or the fact that I also have the following apps:
1. OMJ Manilla customizer - Used to change my clock and Icons
2. Diamond TF3D config tool - Only used to return everything back my ROMs default theme/Icons when I got a white square on the top left corner of all all my tabs after doing a soft reset
3. S2U2 v1.44 (QVGA) - I seen in a post that my phone should use the VGA version but none of those would install on my phone. I have since removed it
Not sure but maybe these apps are stepping on one another and I shouldn't have all three installed???? Has anyone experienced this before if so please share your remedy/fix. I plan remove mUn BackGround4AllPages "v0.2" as well as the ones listed that I have not already removed but before doing so I'm going to check my registry to see anything has changed since I set myself up to send/receive pic messages.
Phone:
Sprint HTC Touch Diamond Flashed to Metro Pcs
Running Mighty ROM v4.1
CDMA
Pic text can receive but can't send pic messages
I unistalled it with no problem. Although I had the same problem when I tried to unistall Sprite Backup. I used sktools>installed programs and >bad unistall info and then a general cleanup and it unistalled.
I had the same problem, it uninstalled from phone but the picture remained on all TF3D pages. Even deleted the picture that I assigned from the phone.
I searched for all image files in the windows folder and found one that sounded like it could be the background file (can't recall it's name) but I remember it was pretty obvious. Open it to make sure it's the one you want to remove and delete it. Soft reset and voila....back to original TF3D grey squares.
I think BackGround4AllPages just renames your image and sticks it in the windows folder.
Stop TF3D (Turn it off in today settings) soft reset, uninstall, soft reset and then restart TF3D.

Short of a hard reset, no.
just wondering if this got sorted? mines doing it now??!
crazy phone!
Very strange, I'm sure this problem must of been caused by yours truly, however I have now idea how???
My phone dialler has gone all retro'd (see screen dump) and loses some of it's funtionality.
I had installed a batch of 3 items, notification manager, NoniGPSPlotV2.80j.EN & metro, all of which I have since un-installed & performed a soft-reset, but still I have this horrible old-skool dialler, which I am aching to get rid of.
Any pointers on how to restore the default TF3D dialler would be great (is there a .cab?)
Thanks guys, you & this forum really do rock!
worst case senario would I be best to load a complete new rom? I take it it would erase all settings / added progs?
hard reset
hy there! I had a similar problem with the display. Installed a theme, without noticing that it was dor Diamond 1. So what happened is that it got "embedded" in the original theme of the phone. So I tried to uninstall it (unintalled, but being embedded, wome elements remained and the display was all crappy). Then searched for a cab, found it, but same problem . The display was also crappy. What I did in the end was a hard reset. And that solved all the problems ... if you search the forum, there was a post where you will find a link to original theme if you want to try. I'll search anyway and link you if I find it. Cheers!!!
Thanks George,
As I initially thought I thought the problem was caused by myself... & sure enough it was, I use pocket shield (which is great btw)& I was messing around with the config invoking the option slide to answer calls >>> use windows mobile dialler. I thought this would only occur during an incoming call, but no it took over the while dialler, anyway I've unchecked this option in pocket shield & given myself a damn good thrashing!
Thanks to you & all that took the time to read this....
Looking to do my 1st rom flash...god help me!!! ;-)
If you don't like the idea of flashing your rom, a hard reset would almost certainly do the trick as well
try to set "enable phone skin" in advanced config.
