all of a sudden i am unable to connect to the EDGE network, no word on 3g as i dont have it in my area. i try to connect to say PIE and i get the message "cannot connect with current connection settings. to change your connection settings, tap setting" this brings me to a help screen asking about "my isp name" and "my work network". no idea what to do past here, any help would be greatly appreciated. i did just flash a new rom and then just the basic googlemaps/operamini/keyboard fix/touch keypad.
My ISP Name - Add new connection (or modify existinf), select GPRS connection (no CSD) and at minimum You must know APN for GPRS (usually internet).
Contact Your mobile operator for details - APN, maybe GPRS user name and password is used by network too.
If possible try your SIM card in another handset jUst to be sure that there is nothing wrong at your Carriers end

Please, please help. I have just managed to connect my xdaIIi to my wireless network, but am unable to connect to the internet. Whenever i try to connect it uses GPRS(O2 active) and I am left with a blank screen.
Any help greatly appreciated, it is driving me mad!!!!
just delete gprs setting for the first time and it would be ok. later you can get gprs setting back
Thanks for responding, but when I try to cancel the gprs it returns every few seconds.
Some applications fire up the internet connection if it is down, like Internet Explorer.
Are you sure that all your applications are properly shut-down and not running hidden in the background? ( Settings / System / Memory / Running Programs)
Checkout at Setting / Connections / GRPS Setting... manage existing connections and under proxy settings untick at the top....
I tried stopping all programs still no success, looked in gprs setting and did not have any mention of proxy settings, just class 8 or class 10.
I now get the message which says I must provide proxy server information
HTTP
WAP
Secure WAP
Socks
I have no idea what to do and think I'll just use the laptop for surfing and forget about the internet on the XDA.
Thanks for all of your help so far
dont look under grps setting that got class 8 or class 10. Looks under Connections, the got your GRPS Setting..... manage existing connections.... you'll find the proxy setting.....

I have been reading WiFi threads on here for hours but can't seem to find the right answer.
I have a WiFi network at home that I can connect to when enabling Wi-Fi through the Comm Manager. My Wizard is running Xelencin's T-Mobile USA 2.26 Custom ROM (Wizard/MDA).
The problem is, when I'm at home and fire up Pocket IE, the phone tries to connect using GPRS rather than my WiFi connection. What I want is for Pocket IE to use WiFi when I'm connected to WiFi, and GPRS at other times.
Many posts reference going to Start > Settings >Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks, and changing the settings for "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet..." to either "My ISP" or "My Work Network".
I have 4 items listed in these drop-downs:
My ISP
T-Mobile Data
T-Mobile MMS
My Work Network
When I look at the settings for "My ISP" there is one connection defined called "T-Mobile WModem Link" that is set to use the modem "Cellular Line (GPRS) and access point name "wap.voicestream.com"
The settings for "My Work Network" don't show a connection listed at all. If I create a new one, my options for selecting a "modem" are:
Bluetooth
Cellular Line
Cellular Line (GPRS)
Generic IrDA
Hayes Compatible on COM1:
None of these seems to be right for a WiFi connection.
The settings for "T-Mobile Data" are the same as the settings for My ISP except the connection is called "T-Mobile Data"
The settings for "T-Mobile MMS" are also the same (GPRS and wap.voicestream.com).
It seems like T-Mobile is blocking me from using Wi-Fi as the default internet connection. I really like this ROM and would prefer not to change it. Can anyone help?
with my Wizard as long as i'm connected to a wifi network (and i have an IP address and gateway from that network) it will browse with it... only when i'm not on any network connected to the internet (including via USB Active sync) does it connect using gprs. The "My ISP" conenction is configured for my GPRS Network.
Somehting i can suggest is that you open Network Adapters, select your WLAN Wireless Adapter and choose "this network card connect me to The Internet"
good luck!
PS make sure the wifi network your conecting has a shared internet connection... if its not shared your phone will use GPRS even if its connected.

I have no problem browsing with Wifi. My wireless connection isnt the issue. My problem is not being able to make Wi-Fi, my default internet connection.
I think this works
I think this is the thread that solved it for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261438&highlight=internet+wifi+gprs
To be fair, I usually have to try a couple of settings to get it to work automatically, but eventually I do.
No luck for me. I think I'm just going to have to learn how to cook a custom extended rom without the "T-Mobile_Network_Customizations.cab", and then hard reset. Is there a simple way to delete that cab file from the extended rom and also make that change to the "Config.txt" file (in the extended rom)? Anytime I try making changes to the extended rom via Total Commander, all the files in the extended rom end up looking garbled.
Hi there,
I am new here but I am not new to forums so am a semi-n00b!! I have been searching around for an answer and there seem to be lots of people asking the question but no answers to it...
Is it possible to set up a WiFi proxy on the TyTN 2? I know it is possible to set up a proxy for gprs etc etc but there are no options for a proxy on WiFi. My school uses a proxy but I cannot find the options anywhere to allow me to configure the phone to do it!
Anyone got the answer to this annoying issue?
Thanks,
Will
Yes - in wifi settings, change the network adapter to connect to "work", then in connection settings, set "network that connects a pirvate network" to connect to work and edit work to add the proxy
I have changed the network adapter to work (settings > connections > wifi > network adapters) but when you say connection settings do you mean settings > connections > connections? as in this I do not see any options to connect it to work.. Or am I missing something obvious?
Does it make a difference that this is the Vodafone V1615?
Thanks,
Will
I have the same question. In the settings to set up the proxy, you have to choose Bluetooth, Cellular Line, Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G), or Hayes Compatible on COM1. Then it wants you to enter a phone number.
If I change the Wifi settings to connect to work it stops working.
oh, if I put cellular line it lets me put in the info. I think that might have worked. I will have to try it when I am connected at home. Now, is there any way to use the proxy just for email? I.e. I have to be connected via a VPN to my school in order to get my email on thunderbird.
Bumping up an old topic but my work LAN connects through a proxy server and I can't seem to get it to work.
I added the proxy info under "Work" for my Connection settings and in "WIFI", I chose "connects to Work" but it still doesn't allow me to access the internet.
I connect to 3G network and PIE, Media Net works well. I disconnect 3G and connect to WiFi, open PIE which is set to Media Net home page and popup reads "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings." It will not go to Media Net home page but most other websites (ie. google, weather channel etc...) work fine. Cingular video reads "having technical difficulties, try again later". Mobile CNN reads "Cnn wireless content is restricted. You may be attempting to access us from an unauthorized mobile service provider, or it could be that your service provider is authorized but has failed to register a new gateway IP with us."
That's with PIE. With 3rd party applications like XM Radio, Windows Live Search, they work well with WiFi but not with 3G. XM pops up "A network error has occurred. Please verify your cellular or WiFi connection is active and restart the app." Live Search will open but wont download maps or get directions.
I've done searches here and in different forums with no success. This happened before and after phone calls to AT&T, HTC then online chat with AT&T tech support I got it fixed with a hard restart. Then after downloading HTC Home Plugin, KaiserTweaks and remapping the PTT button, it started having the same connection problems again.
Now aside from doing another hard restart and having to dowload/install those CABs again, does anyone know how to fix this?
I know the AT&T/Cingular browser settings by heart, but this alone wont fix the problem.

There has to be some missing settings perhaps on Start-Settings-Connections-Connections-Advanced-Select Network : "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:".
Thanks, I appreciate any help.
I know this is an old thread but I was just having the same problem with all my 3rd party apps.
Simple solution: Edit settings for AT&T ISP so that they match the media net settings. Basically change ISP to wap in adress and user name. leave the password as it is.
Im not sure why my 3rd party apps try to connect to ISP but since i cant figure that out this does the trick.
Hopefully this helps somebody. Im using Alex V5.20 CUBE
Somehow my GPRS connection was removed...so I figured, I'll simply re-add it. Turns out that the entire connection manager is f'ing up...and I don't know why.
If I create a new connection "Add a new modem connection" type connection name "T-Mobile Data" select modem "Cellular Line (GPRS)" it says "This connection already exists." Funny thing is...I can't see it, or modify it.
So let's try to name it something else..."My Connection" access point name "wap.voicestream.com" enter nothing on the user/pass/domain screen...then click "finish." It returns back to the Connections screen and ta-da...no "My Connection." In fact, no anything! I can't see any of the connections which exist...
Has anyone had anything like this happen? I'm running the stock T-Mobile ROM with some registry and application based modifications. Custom page pool...and all of that Jazz. The phone has been running great for about 10 months...so it's not exactly something that I just modified or installed. The last application I installed was the Live Mesh Beta client...I removed it thinking that could have had some effect...but it didn't seem to fix anything.
Any help would be great.
