You can try PocketInformant (which is the best, in my book). You can sort First names, Last names or even Outlook "File as".
Otherwise, you can edit all your contacts so that their full names are in the Last Name field (i.e. you leave the First Name field blank), which may not be ideal if you have a lot of contacts with unique Western surnames.
when you edit a contact there is a field called File As...choose to file it as joe smith then you should be all good...

Yes there is an application to do exactly this. It is called Contact Changer and can be downloaded from http://www.shubaroo.com. It is absolutely free and very quick. Does just the job by batch fixing all the existing contacts.

Dear friends,
I am new user to I-mate PDA2 k.
One of my friends gave my one .Cab file. This program was very useful for this Gadget. In phone pad when i enter no. it would show me the name of contact already entered in my phone book.
This program was available in Nokia Communicator. I lost this program after trying to upgrade wrong Rom, now feel handicapped. If some one can send it to me or give me a link on following email: [email protected]
I will really oblige to him/her.
Thanking you in anticipations

Hi,
Any way to rename or delete the categories???
Any expert to advise please.
Good day, Thanks
Additional question: is there a way to assign a ringtone to a category?
When you remove all contacts from a category that's not one of the four built in ones, it disappears. There is no way to rename but an easy way to change the name is to assign one contact to a new one then re-assign all the others to it.
ToneManager

Well, I sync with my Outlook and I did some mass-editing in Outlook and made some new categories and such. Sync'd perfectly with my Kaiser.
hey guys, is it possible for somebody to develop a program that allows you to directly import an address from contacts to tomtom? my memory is not that great and its annoying to have to go between the two programs to manually type in the address...i would definately donate to anybody who develops this! thanks

... that would be nice omar but i think you will get better responses and MORE attention to this if you posted under xda general development and hacking section as a program like this would be good for all devices that support tom tom not just kaiser

Actually, Tomtom DID it for you already. AFAIR, TT did it since Tomtom 5.
I don't how you input addresses in your contacts list; but in my case, once I mention "contacts" then it imports and displays all contacts that I have in phonebook. Sometimes, there are than one location that same name, for example, springfield, then it will ask me, with suggestion and pre filled, to manually enter that address.
Good luck.
^ yep, TT7 finds my contacts automatically.
hey guys, thanks for ur help.. i didnt realize it, but if i go to navigate to, than i can actually choose contacts! this is tomtom6 btw, thanks

Hi there,
I'm fairly new to my Diamond but I love it a great deal.
There is one thing that disturbs me though and that is that I can't sort my phone book other than Name, which is "Last, First", and by Company (I don't bother about Company). I would like to be able to sort my contacts in First, Last Name order, I have a about 300 names in my list and it is really confusing when I don't find who I'm looking for anymore.
I would like to hear with you if there is a way to hack the register or any other solution for my issue.
And no, 3rd party application is not an option, sure, it would do the trick but I want to use and have easy access from the Contact tab.
All help appreciated.
Thanks!
there is a way, but it's not going to be fun, and you may want to do it on the computer in outlook instead.
Outlook on your PC and Windows mobile default to filing contacts as Last Name, First Name as you have found.
however, if you edit a contact, they both have a File as option. here you can select various different options, one of which being first name last name.
it's a bastard having to do it on all contacts, which is why you might want to do it on the computer instead.
hopefully, someone knows of a reg edit that'll fix it.

I developed an Outlook form a few years back that goes through all Contacts and sets the File As fields to First Name Last Name. Is this what you're after? I still have it but haven't used it in ages. Worked perfectly back then.
Feel free to try it (attached and I would recommend backing up your Outlook contacts in a PST first)

I will definitely try your form and I really hope that it does the trick.
But I think there should be a register hack out there somewhere.

In your contacts, on the Diamond, you have the option : "save as", but you've gotta do it manually for each one. Open a contact, tab the right soft-key (menu) choose edit, there you go
