3 Coloured Bars on Reset Starting Upgrade. - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

Hi,
Background:
I've been having a real issue upgrading my 750. First off none of the standard ROM desktop installers work. They all complain about it not being able to upgrade the language. I did some digging and found out I have a VFN version of WM5. That doesn't match any of the existing ones that I can see. It was originally a Vodafone UK 750, but I'm in Australia and need to upgrade. The Vodafone ones are VFE. WTF? Where does the VFN one come from?
Current Issue:
Ok I got the generic ROM, and I was following the instructions from the http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Cheetah_WM6 page.
Note about the page, it says to rename the .nbh file to CHEEIMG.nbh, but there are 2 or sometimes 3 .nbh files in every desktop installer image. I presume they mean the big one that is normally named CHEEIMG_FW.NBH.
Anyway, got the image on the mini-SD card. (yes FAT32 formatted)
Try to enter Bootloader (media button and reset button)
Now the thing just sits there 3 bars (Red, Green, Blue), and it says 'Serial' at the bottom. It never prompts to start the upgrade. It's as if it's waiting for a Serial connection rather than checking the SD card.
What can I do to get it to check the SD card?

you have to hold down the media button till the screen turns grey after pushing the reset button.

Of course
Yes i did this. This is what I get AFTER the screen has gone grey and come back on.

you have to continu holding it even after the 3 color screen appears

ok...
forgive my ignorance...but for how long? It's been 5 minutes and my thumb is tired....

it needs to be CHEEIMG.NBH and put on the root of the minisd card

Yup I checked that. That is what it is called, and in all caps....same result.
Keep the idea coming. ;-)

Try this procedure, maybe can work: http://discussion.wmexperts.com/showthread.php?t=156093
Substitude CNG by VFN

Still doesn't work
Thank you for pointing me at that procedure. It appeared promising. However, the installer program doesn't ever work because it reads the existing ROM and says "This update is intended to update Palm Treo 750 smartphones to the latest software. It is not intended to update the device language or other devices."
I need to scrub the screwed up version/carrier info from the existing ROM so this one will update it...any hints on that?

Sounds like you have screwed the bootloader.
You will need to run the recovery program to bring it back to default.

Pre-production problems

Hi!
I've got a pre-production version of the Qtek 9090.
The ROM version was 0.9x something and I had some troubles with it so I figured I would just update it... Shouldn't have done that
Anyway, I got hold of a strange update file, called "HA_RUU_12100_112_00125.exe" and ran it on my PC. Not that bright, one might think :?
The device would not fully boot up. I then took out the battery and waited a coupple of minutes. After that it booted up nicely. However, the device is not fully functional and when I look in the "Device Information" it says:
ROM version: 1.21.00 WWE
ROM date: 07/28/04
Radio version: DM FAIL
Protocol version: DM FAIL
PRL version: N/A
ExtROM version: 1.21.112 WWE
I've tried upgrading it using all the tools and instructions that I could find on this great forum but with no luck..
The DeviceData app brings back a strange txt-file that looks a bit like this:
PH20A1 A 1 WWE E [and some strange characters] 1.21.00 0 0 1.21.112 DM FAIL
I would be VERY grateful if someone could help me back to a fully functional device!!
Bump!
!!!Help!!!
so, why don't you just try using a non-strange file to upgrade your device then?
Help!
I am, you know!

maybe upgrading the radio stack using the SD method would solve your issue, however, you'll need an SD backup of a working Radio rom for this.
there is a 1.06.01_sd_img.rar (german i think)
and a NTRW_ImageQtec9090.rar (no idea which language)
on the ftp
THANK YOU!!!
I'll give a try right away!
What does the "NTRW"-file do?
Can I upgrade the radio stack without any 120-errors?
A quick question:
Do a use Winhex or some other tool to copy the data to the SD card?
To be more specific:
What tools do you use to copy the .nb1 file to the SD card?
Help!
xdatools is used to program sd cards with rom image.
I've tried the version of XDATools that I found on Jeff Summers page. It says "Invalid file size" and that the image should be a certain size. The Radiostack is not that size..
Anyone?!
Getting Image on XDA III / PDA2k from SD
Just use "ntrw.exe" - search forum for location. That runs in DOS and will copy the .nb1 image you can get from the ftp to an SD card in one command. Insert card/enter bootloader and it worked for me (but not the radio as it hung there - i also have a pre production model)
chris
I've got the 2.03 version of the Bootloader and it will not detect the card...
Do you know how I can upgrade it?
Strange - I had 2.03 too - but after I applied the 1.06....sd_img file from ftp it uploaded to 2.05 - so i was in the same position as you and got it working.
I am not 100% sure it was that file i tried first - it might have been
ntrw_imageQtec9090.rar also in the ftp archives.
Either way I do find some images dont work - so i also found and used psdwrite.exe and that seemed to work when writing images using ntrw.exe did not. I am sure there is something else wrong- but find that between these 2 I can create bootable Sd images that at least get the device up and running.
I am still struggling to upgrade the radio stack - as with the 0.9x version none of the "mainstream" upgrades work - they all fail complaining about the radio stack version.
Good luck - i think you must be close!
Thank you Hampers!
Progress! I got the Bootloader to accept the Qtec.nb1. It takes about 40seconds before it reacts and after that it says:
"
SD Download
=========
Selection=1
Not allow
update!
"
Quite strange, don't you think?!
Just make a copy of your 9090's ROM with romupdate.exe and ntrw and copy the firtst 416 bytes from that to the image file you are trying to flash by overwriting them. Then it will allow the update

I would like to but when I give the command "d2s", it runs a checksum test, starts to copy and finally fails with the message "Add record is error!" (Even I speak better English than that )
The SD card now contains a bit of information from my Qtek. When I try to re-flash it with this information it returns the same message as usual; "Sections=1 Not allow update!"

Cingular SX66 Upgrade - a complete "How-to"

Cingular SX66 Upgrade - a complete "How-to"
I am not associated with XDA-Developers, but these guys do a lot of good work. If this post helps you, please support their efforts by making a small contribution to XDA-Developers forum – I did. This is a long post and I wouldn't blame moderators for shortenning it. If this is the case, the entire procedure is available on my website:
http://www.souljernation.com/files/SX66Upgrade.doc
Well, I was one of the lucky winners of a Siemens SX66 "AT&T" variant, sold by Cingular, which can not be upgraded using the Siemens SX66Update.exe program. Each time I try, I would get a COUNTRY ID ERROR.
SO, after loads of research, I finally put all of the pieces together to get the thing upgraded to Version 1.33.10 with Radio Stack Version 1.12.00 and Bluetooth stack 1.0.0.3900
This configuration is working pretty well for me and has solved a bunch of the little annoyances of the 1.32 version of the ROM and 1.02 Radio ROM.
Here is the procedure for upgrading – get used to going through the initialization process – you’ll have to do it several times. I am not sure if a full backup is a good idea since it will overwrite the BT stack after you upgrade it. But it is definitely a good idea after you are finished upgrading and getting the PDA restored to the way you use it.
You will need the following files which can easily be found using Google:
Siemens’ upgrade package: SX66update.exe
Hacked Upgrade utility: MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
Blue Angel Flash Tools: BAFlashTools.zip
Radio ROM version 1.12.00: R1.12.00.zip
Restart Radio utility: restartradio.exe
Broadcom Bluetooth stack cabinet: BroadcomCorp_BT1.0.0.3900.cab
Now, you do not want to search all over the internet for these, so here is a nice clean package that contains everything all ready to go…. LMSX66Upgrade.zip
http://www.souljernation.com/files/LMSX66upgrade.zip
You can extract this file to its own directory or build the file set by downloading the files individually.
Here is how to build the file set:
1) Extract the Siemens SX66Update file.exe to a new directory called SX66Upgade (using winzip or winrar). Add the file MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to this directory.
2) Extract the BAFlashTools.zip file to another new directory called BAFlashTools.
3) Extract the R1.12.00.zip to the BAFlashTools directory.
4) Don’t worry about the BT stack and resetradio for now – just keep track of them.
If you downloaded my fileset you can skip all of that stuff and just extract it to a temp directory somewhere on your PC.
Before proceeding, make sure that you have a good connection and partnership from PC to SX66, that the main battery is fully charged and that you have the power supply plugged in to the cradle. These are all very important steps!!
Remove the device from the cradle.
Start the upgrade –
Manually trigger a bootload by holding the record button and the power button and pushing the reset. Your device will say SERIAL, but the back light will not be on, so it will be difficult to see.
Plug the device into the cradle and the display should change to USB.
Go into the SX66Update folder on your PC and run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and follow instructions – don’t worry that it does not display the current software versions.
In about 1 minute or less, you should see a bar graph displaying progress. If the program is inactive for longer than a minute or two, restart the PC and try again.
Once the ROMS are updated, the system will reboot, go through the initialization process, but don’t waste any time because the system will get wiped again after the radio upgrade.
Wait for the device to go though the program installation and become usable and partner it with the PC again. (I know, this is tedious – but, hey, we’re geeks, right?)
Next, open the BAFlashTools directory and run BaUpgradeUt.exe. This will take you through the same process, but only flash the radio ROM with the 1.12 stack.
Once complete, the system will go through another complete initialization. Suffer through it, plug it in to the cradle, and partner it with your PC yet another time.
Using the Explorer option of ActiveSync, create a temporary folder on the SX66 and copy restartradio.exe and BroadcomCorp_BT1.0.0.3900.cab to this new folder.
Using the PDA, go into the temp folder and run restartradio.exe by taping it once. This will shut down the BT stack. Look for the telltale “X” by the antenna ICON in the menu bar.
Next, tap the BroadcomCorp_BT1.0.0.3900.cab file and it will self-install the new BT stack. This file will delete itself once installed.
FINALLY, do a soft reset by pushing the reset button and you are done.
NOTE: the Bluetooth stack is integrated into the system ROM. If you do a hard reset or the battery dies and the system memory is lost, the BT stack will revert to the old version.
Good Luck!!
Perhaps this should find its place in the wiki?
This is made obsolete by the new series of 1.40 roms. Soon enough, Cingular will have their version too.
Instructions to update to 1.33.10 are already on wiki, as they are the same instructions as all the other ones. So are instructions to upgrade your bluetooth to 1.0.0.3900 (also made obsolete by the 1.40 series).
Not to mention that there is a 1.13 radio rom, which is superior to the 1.12 rom, seemingly.
I actually noticed all of that, yet I found very few posts to actually recommend those versions and fewer still that actually detail how to find all of the right files and upgrade the SX66 specifically. This is especially true of the SX66 AT&T variant which can not be upgraded with the Siemens' upgrade package. It took me a very long time to find all of this information and get it to work right based on scattered postings - I'm just trying to save brother SX66 owners a little time and frustration and would argue that this post is actually valid until obsoleted by an official Cingular update package (which undoubtedly will not work on the AT&T variant.....)
I'll give you that. I was just refuting ejdmoo's post more than anything.
I assume that you are refering to the wiki upgrade information here

I have a seimens sx-66 and none of these methods worked. They all either gave me the country id error or they froze and left me with no radio.
What i ended up having to do was download the official ssiemens version for the PH20B1 near the bottom of this page.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Upgrades
and then add [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1 to the ruu.conf as described in this page . And was FINALLY able to even upgrade to the official siemens rom that i'm supposed to have no problem with.
this is what i started out with
PH20B1 : B 1
WWE : E
XGULA001
1.20.10 : 1 0
1.20.115
1.02.10 : 02.10
Sorry The SX-66 is not very well supported on this site and all the begging that I have done for somebody to open a wiki section for it has not worked.
Here are the facts (in my eyes)

Dead Xda IIS

Guys, i need some help. Recently i came across the rom update for my xda iis, so i decide to take it out of my drawer and see if i can update it with HELMI_BA_WM6_R0_Public. I followed all the steps and try to upgrade it, after i click on HELMI_BA_WM6_R0_.exe, my xda iis restart on cradle and after that nothing happen. I notice it only appear on the top with the word "serial" and the bottom "v2.06". I have tried in vain to get it working again, please try to help as im very new to this. Im using window Vista.
since apparently, you are not that experienced in flashing your device, i would recommend you use windows xp to flash your device.
then you have a look at this wiki wizard:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade1_WM2003SE0
this is a step by step instruction on how to upgrade from wm2003 to wm6.
please follow it precisely, even if you don't see a point in certain steps, they are all important!!!
if you, however, don't understand a step or a phrase, feel free to re-post, and i will explain it to you in more detail.
have fun with the upgrading, one word of advise: take your time, the first upgrade with storage resize radio upgrade, sim unlock and other stuff can last an hour or two (not the upgrade itself, but the process you go through). when you remember the steps and feel like you want a different rom, after testing this one, all you have to do is donload a "nk.nbf" file and flash it, and the entire update takes you 5 minutes then
Hi Chef_tony, thanks for the reply. I went to the link u gave me and from the 1st step on im stuck. It ask me to download both the unlocker and Repart and place it on the phone, but i cant do anything with the phone except for the "Serial" on top and "V2.06" below, it does change to "usb" when i cradle it. please help. thanks again
ok, then at that point you are stuck in boot loader, that happened to me too.
the reason for that might not be that interesting to you now, but it is because vista in the middle of the flashing process vista thinks it needs new drivers, downloads them and then it disconnects the device, something that shouldn't be done while flashing, as everyone knows.
these wiki links explain how to flash from vista using modified drivers, but i wanna tell you in advance, that i personally never got it running, i always use a windows xp machine:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4_Vista
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4_Vista_Pic
so, still i want to state that the best way to flash is a xp computer, if you have access to one, use that to flash your original shipped rom first, to resize the storage (first wizard step) afterwards.
theoretically, a virtual machine, running xp would also work, if you still have an xp cd lying around, you can download virtual pc 2007 from microsoft, it is free and you just need a short time to set up a virtual xp machine, because i can guarantee you, you will flash more than one rom, once you started on the topic.
remember, you need to flash your shiped rom, then you want to flash the helmi rom, then maybe a rom update and probably you are not staying with that rom forever, since it is wm6, there is also wm6.1 and wm6.5 to follow that.
what i want to say is:
- try the flashing with vista option described in the wiki links above
- if that doesn't work, try to get to an xp computer and follow the steps
- flash your original shipped rom first
- then the wiki wizard steps in again
Problem is solve, thank you so much chef_tony. my next question is...where can i get wm6.1 rom as all the link i had is dead
according to another user, this thread's links are still working:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403421
but it does not contain office. (you can still try other office download links, if you need it)
just by the tiny size of the extrom i would say there is hardly anything contained, but anyway, that is a rom i used too, and it is quite nice, also look up IOLITE stuff in this forum for extra apps.
make sure to repost if everything went to plan
I found a working wm6.1 pro on another website and its working great! It contain office as well. Thing now is i didnt adjust the memory and i didnt have enough space to install every software that i had
This is the link http://www.4shared.com/file/66810499/8a61be24/HTC-BA5220758WWE_v302_25M_PP-16M_RAMdisk_a.html?s=1
By the way chef_tony, you happen to have any idea how to open up BA, cause i would love to clean it up on the inside.
1. the thing is, the storage resize is important for 2 reasons:
- sure, with the resize you woulld have 16mb more storage memory for installing programs and storing stuff
- you still have your original extrom on the device, which is not compatible with newer roms, meaning, instead of simply copying the extrom to an sd card to have a basic setup and installing programs you need to install cabs manually
which is why i said to follow the steps precisely, now you have 16mb of space you simply can't access from wm6 at all, and for a resize you'd have to go back to wm2003 first but give your rom a try first, maybe it is not the perfect one for you after all, then you still have the opportunity to re-flash.
2. i am glad you found a valid link, many people post their roms to hosters that take it down after a while, expecially when there are no more downloads of that item, and so, many links posted here half a year ago are not working anymore, which is sad, since there are still a lot of people, including you, that would like to go to wm5, wm6 or wm6.1 and not just the newest wm6.5 builds, but, whatever, you found your rom and hopefully kept the files stored on your pc for future reflashing...
3. there are two basic disassembling guides for the BA:
- the official service manual (also good for repairs, since they explain each step):
http://www.4pda-service.ru/netcat_f.../BLUE ANGEL/HTC_Blue_Angel_Service_manual.pdf
- the manual made by a forum user:
http://www.land-of-kain.de/ppc/mda3/disassembly/
i am glad it all worked out for you so far and you will realize that this old device has a lot of potential, when you keep it up to date (and clean ).
Thanks you so much for the help. I'll try to update if the link is dead someday, by the way..i have 43mb storage and 84mb programme, is that good or bad?
the program memory is normal, but the storage should be 16 mb more, so instead of 43.XX you would have 60.30mb.
that is the extrom resize mentioned before.
- you need to flash your original rom for that
- then copy the "xda-developers unlocker" and the "repart_doc.exe" to your device. (attached below)
- you install the extrom unlocker
- then you go to start menu and extrom unlocker
- you execute "unhide"
- then unlock
- then start the repart_doc and set the size to 128kb
then you can lock the extrom and hide it again.
maybe in that process there is a soft reset required, i don't remember.
the reason why you do all that is because the extrom memory is hidden and locked and contains a bunch of cabs, that install automatically, when you hard reset the device.
so after that, you can reflash your wm6 rom, and you'll see, that after you resized and formatted that space, your memory dialogue will show 60.30mb of storage memory (plus it gives you the opportunity to install wm6 extroms from the sd card).

Help me PLEASE...

I got the O2 Xda IIs Model PH20B and now upgraded to ROM Version 6.50.28WWE. Radio Version 1.12.00, Protocol Version 1337.42. The CPU is PXA263 wuth 400 MHZ and 112MB RAM. Flash Chip type 28F128K3
The office mobile doesn't work anymore, the things that haven't worked before (like PSSHutXp, TomTom etc) don't work. It can't be connected to any computer not by Active Sync on Windows 2k or XP, and not with Windows Mobile on Vista. I have a lot of icons duplicated on the desktop with (1) behind the name aka Calendar and Calendar (1) and can't get rid of them.... what can I do? Can any one help me please? I am ready to throw that thing out of the window!
Thanks a lot in advance
.
I suggest you to do a hard reset...
Have you dit it when you was upgrading?
Because after upgrade you have to do it, to avoid problems with some pieces of applications , that have been left in your memory...
thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Yes I did hard reset it, it won't even use the Extrom on the SDCard to give me office or anything, even it said the cabs are installed. Stupid thing!
I now went back to the original O2 crap old ROM and search for 6.1 but I can't seem to find one that works, the ones I found on here don't install right away but go through syncing, which mine won't so it keeps saying the device doesn't respond lol. I think I seriously give up soon and just throw it out I had enough, and I am good with computers etc usually, I build them and all, just I never had a PDA before.
Anyone know something?
if it didn't use the extrom from the sd card you probably still have the internal extrom in the device and forgot to format and resize it before you first upgraded to wm5 and above. what you need to do to get rid of all that old crap is:
1. downgrade to your shipped rom, remember, now that your device is WWE, you need to use MAupgradeut_noID and botloader to avoid country id and device id errors.
2. download xda-unlocker.cab and repartDOC.exe and put them on an sd card. install the unlocker.
3. run the unlocker by going to the start menu, EXTROM tools, click "Unhide" then "Unlock"
4. run repartDOC and set the size to 128kb
5. run the unlocker again by going to the start menu, EXTROM tools, this time click "Lock" then "Hide"
6. now your device does not have the internal extrom anymore, meaning you have 16MB more storage capacity and you can use extroms coming from the sd card.
7. then flash back the new rom, say wm6.1, again using the MAupgradeut_noID and bootloader mode.
8. when done, perform a hard reset, notice that the procedure for hard resetting changed, (press reset+power+record+camera)
9. in the menu appearing, the options ARE set:
Enable KITL: YES
clean registry hive: NO
format storage: NO
using the camera and record button, flip all the settings, so it says:
Enable Kitl: NO
clean registry hive: YES
format storage YES
10. confirm with the mail button, your screen turns white, and after some time, the device boots and installs the extrom from the sd card.
that is the procedure to go through, when first upgrading to wm5 and above and since your device made special problems, my wildest guess would be, that you forgot to resize the extrom, which is the reason the sd card's extrom was not loaded. plus you probably performed no hard reset or did it wrong, which is why the device was filled with garbage even after flashing a new rom.
if that manual was to fast, or you didn't get any of the things above, there is a wizard (assistant, not the device) in the wiki, to guide through the upgrade process, there you will also find the download links for the mentioned unlocker and repartdoc:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade1_WM2003SE0
that link is already one step into the problem and starts with the extrom resize, assuming that you flash your shipped rom first, and need no help doing that.
remember: you cannot resize your extrom from wm5 and above, for your device to run properly, you need to go back to wm2003 first.
have fun and good luck with that
Thank you very much Chef Tony. I was willing to put it up for sale but I will try what you suggested once again, even I am sure I ran through it all and did it, but it doesn't hurt to try it again. If I am still too stupid to use the Blue Angel, or still don't get along with it, I can always sell it afterwards.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
UPDATE:
I have done it on my XP computer this time, not Vista, and it worked. The other thing I did wrong, no laugh at me if you want LOL, but I am a novice and have my blonde moments , and never did this before, I unrared ALL the files in the EXTROM Folder... this time I only unrared the main folder and put them all on the card as they were inside that unpacked EXTROM Folder. Works like a charm now and the programs are installed and I can use it... saves me a LOT of money as I was ready to sell everything I have to sell to get the iphone, now thanks to you I can use the XDA IIs as it should work.
I owe you one! VIELEN LIEBEN DANK FUER DEINE HILFE.

[tut] flash rom without pc (sd card method)

0. Make sure phone is hard-spl first
1. Make sure SD card is formatted with fat-32
2. rename the image file (ruu_signed.nbh) to rhodimg.nbh, then copy that to the ROOT OF THE MICRO SD CARD, Insert card into phone
3. Set your phone in bootloader (Hold the "volume down" and hold the power on button until you see the tri-color screen.
4. Then follow the on-screen instruction
5. (OPTIONAL) -after flash, make sure to hardreset (pull battery, insert battery then hold green and red PHONE buttons (send/end) and hold powerbutton) follow onscreen instruction.
thanks for the info
I've tried the above and somehow it won't work on my TP2, it stays at "Serial" text in the white box, I'm assuming it already went past the SD slot then? Checking for the image.
I have the Energy rom loaded on the SD card, named as explained in the first post in this topic, it is placed in the root of the SD card, no folders or other files exist on that card. I removed the SIM card from the phone just to be sure. Is there anything I am missing, or is there anyone else who actually used this method to flash his or her device?
Info:
SPL: OliNex 0.85
ROM: |RHOD|6.5|ROM|WWE| ★ EnergyROM "Warhawk" (23016) ★ | Built Aug 21 |Manila 2.5 / 2.1|
SD Card: 4GB MicroSDHC (No brand on card, supplied with the branded T-Mo TP2 (Vario V)
Formatted: fat-32
Thanks
The nbh file needs to be in capital letters! RHODIMG.nbh
And step 5 isnt to be done until the "Tap screen to set up device" screen!
Just reset when your phone says Update successful!
And done, name changed to the correct format. No luck. Reformatting the card now to see if that changes anything. Update in a few.
And that too didn't work sadly. Either someone here notices I'm doing something wrong, or I'll just wait till I get near a machine natively running Windows Running Mac OS here so can't run the executable, and read that it's not quite a good idea to flash it from a virtual OS.

You will want to partition your card so the nbh image is in a partion of at the largest 1G, anything larger makes it hard for the phone to find and read the nbh file! I have a 1G card just for flashing and it works perfect! And it also may be the mac, they never play nice with windows!
It's not the mac screwing it up in this case as I am using a virtual Windows OS to work on the card. (MacOS leaves some folders on the card that I don't want on it)
Will try partitioning the card, cheers. I'll update when I know more. ANd thanks for the help ^_^
Update:
Partioned the MicroSD card to 0.5GB, no change sadly.
thanks for information
Ok, SD update worked now, however, step 5 won't go (Oh crap...) Have the grey screen with "Update Complete" and "UPDATE SUCCESS" However, it won't do anything if I hold down Send/End/Power at the same time for over 10 seconds. How long should that take normally? What's my best option right now? Can't see any other than to unplug the phone and take out the battary, however, will this brick it?

When is says "UPDATE SUCCESS", just rest with the stylus.
Dave
Thanks for the swift reply! Done it, it's booting up as I am typing this. Didn't quite have the guts to just do that without having read I could when flashing from SD. (Was unsure how the device would react to soft reset then a first booth with the SD present etc)
Anyways, rambling. Thanks!
these post are telling me how to flash while the rom is already on the phone, but i'm missing the step on how to get the rom file on the phone in order to move it to the sd card.......... how do i get the file to the phone? do i put it onto the phone from the computer or do i go to my browser on my phone and download it from there to the phone

Everything you need to know is HERE. I really suggest you fully read the instructions so you avoid bricking your phone by mistake.
In re: making sure you're hardspl'd first, does that still apply if you're flashing an official ROM? Or just for user cooked ROMs?
I'm about to update my Verizon TP2 with the newly released official 6.5 from verizon. I'm not hard spl'd, and honestly, know very little about that particular modification.
not for official
I dont think you have to be hard SPL'd for an official ROM. I think everything is included in the ROM package. (at least for T-Mobile it is)
btw the .nbh does not have to be named in all capitals. I have personally done it both ways with no problems at all. RHODIMG.nbh works just as well as rhodimg.nbh

Thanks for the quick response!
Sadly, the way the install file is set up to work, I can't get to the nbh file. It insists on installing that via an active sync connection. I was hoping it would extract from the exe and schedule it for active sync installation, then I could hunt down the ROM, copy it to my SD card, and run it from there.

hmm.. sorry for kicking this post, but you can unpack the exe-file with winrar. just grab the biggest file you can find (RUU_signed.nbh, and rename it to rhodimg.nbh), copy it to your root-folder (fast way for accessing bootloader is to also copy the "EnterBootLoader.exe" -file to your SD-card, and to start that file after copying both the files). Now just enter the bootloader, and it works! (don't be scared when the screen goes black for a moment, and the bootloader has reloaded. It's meant to do that )
I still have a little question by the way: is it possible to flash the hardSPL this way? or should i rename it to something else?
No, Hard SPL needs to be done from the PC as it checks IMEI online and IP address. You only get 1 licence, can ask for more or purchase more licences, but it can't be done any other way...

Yeah, it's a pity this has been done (though I understand why...)
My device cannot connect to PC anymore, so cannot use HSPL anymore!

Much obliged. I've actually been scared off the official vzw 6.5 because of issues upgraders have reported, but someday I'll put that to use.
