Is it possible to group the Outlook contacts and set ring type/tones to the group?
Also i notice that, when i'm alarm is set, i cant change the phone to slient as the alarm wont ring.
There is a program called Ringo from Electric Pocket which allows you to assign ringtones to your outlook groups or to individuals. You can use your own mp3's for this and you it will also do the same for SMS messages. It's pretty good.
Try this app.

Contacts may have lots of information including birthday! Entering birthday, does it mean that, you will be notified of the birthday, or is it just there?
Did anybody try that?
Yes, you will get notified of that persons birthday.
no alert
I tried to set a birthday in a contact a day ahead. Didn't get any notification of the birthday. Is there anything I have to set in order to have work?

i use Vbirthday..... it works fine. it shows you the actual (or the next) age of the contact, and the days to the date of BD... it synchronizes with your outlook contacts but you can add new "events" (birtdays, anniversary etc). hope this useful. bye

Just tried to install Vbirthday and it does not work with my HTC Diamond :-(
Is there any other alternative which sends notifications and alerts on birthdays??
Tried NS Birthday but does not send notifications, it only displays birthdays in one place!
sir, read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424381
I have found that once you set a birthday for a contact after a few sync's with your Calander and PDA with Activesync it appears in the calander as a recurring event. Then you can edit the recurring event in Outlook calander and sert alarms/whatever.
Alternative is to just add birthday /anniversary/sacred day...whatever as a recurring event and add the alarms you want (best with outlook and then sync)
Job done

Active Sync / Windows Mobile Device Center & Outlook do that for you.
Sync. your device with Outlook to mark birthdays on your calendar.
Birthdays will show up as a full day event.
Utility
It would otherwise be nice to have a little tool that looksup your contact book and from there, it check all birthdays and build a database with notifications and alerts
....is there any way that i can set categories in my Contacts, and then set ringtones for specific categories? is there a program out there that does so? i tried Photo Contacts Pro, but didn't really like it, so is there anything else that could do so?
What's wrong with using Microsoft Outlook.? When you open Outlook contacts to set up a new or an old contact for that matter, at the bottom right hand corner there should be a box for selecting and editing categories. Then sync.
I don't regularly sync contacts, but I can recommend Pocket Informant for your ppc and it dose a very good job of managing and editing categories.
yeah, i set up the categories and everything, but i cant assign ringtones to a specific category, which is what im attempting to do...
Use Phonealarm to assign category specific ringtones...
There is no way to set ringtones per category. Just set them for each contact.
Look for a small program called Tone Manager - you should be able to find it on www.freewareppc.com This does exactly what you need. Assign a ring tone to ALL contacts in a category. Hopefully you have categories assigned to all contacts
Hi all
My g/f got the HD7 today and it's been fairly plain sailing so far. Couple of things have come up though, she got her contacts imported from her sim card without any problems but as soon as she linked her Hotmail account it imported those Contacts as well. Thing is she doesn't want the Hotmail contacts, so can we get rid of them without deleting the Hotmail connection.
We also couldn't find out how to set the snooze time for the alarm or set the alarm to be full volume as soon as it goes off.
Thanks for your help
you can't set the volume separately so the phone has to be left at full volume, and there aren't any snooze time settings as far as I've been able to see, the phones very beta maybe even alpha state atm
They can't really have released a phone in beta form can they? That would be a sure fire way to upset customers. Going back to the alarm, currently it starts low and raises the volume over time, we want it full volume straight of. Might try a third party alarm.
the software's stable but the feature set is really limited, patches are going to add features such as cut and paste and use your own ring tones, things that people have come to expect as standard, so though the software/hardware isn't really beta, the feature set is so lacking it's as if MS launched early and are waiting to hear the cries about what is missing to add them ala the cut and paste.
Any answer to the hotmail sync of contacts? Can we pick and choose which contacts to use or not use any or delete them after the sync?
I had to delete all of my contacts, didn't really bother me seeing as I don't use MSN nowerdays and my Windows Live ID is a @Gmail addy anyway so I don't and Can't use Hotmail.
@tboy2000
Hey, yes you can remove the hotmail contacts...
Go into "settings", "email & accounts" then select your hotmail account. from here you should have a "content to syncronsise" section. just remove the contacts from the list.

That cant be done if that account is being used as your primary live id though.
Indeed - it's not possible. The solutions are to merge hotmail accounts to normal sim accounts, if they match, or to delete your hotmail contacts completely.
Not ideal, but it's how it is.
MIUI 12.5.3 EEA original.
Using latest Google Contacts.
I can assign a ringtone to a contact (mid or mp3 doesn't matter) but when I receive a call from that contact the default ringtone is always played, not the one I selected.
Any suggestion, or it's this just another bug of MIUI 12.5.3??
Thanks.
Update
Apparently only contacts recorded in the Google account can have a selected ringtone.
And the contacts used by the contact app must be those of the Google account.
If using the local device contacts, individual ringtones for contacts can be selected but are not played anyway.
Never happened such a problem with all my previous phones, this is my first Xiaomi...
The only workaround for me was to select the ringtone for each individual contacts, works so far.
This works only if the individual contact to customize belongs to the Google account contact group.
If the phone is configured to use only contacts stored locally on the phone or SIM (not Google contacts, I don't like to give my contacts data to Google...) the individual ringtone selection is available but the phone ignores this setting and uses the default ringtone anyway.
I've just checked my Google contacts and there is 42 and my phone there is more than that and I'm sure my ringtone was changed and they have called me with my new ringtone. There are a few names not showing on my Google contacts, do you think they are hidden?
Probably you have to synchronize device contacts with Google contacts
Hello,
I have a hosted 365 email account. I set my calendar events on my PC using outlook. I use the native android account for my 365 email app. When a meeting starts I get a popup but don't really hear anything if my phone is in my pocket or across the room. Is there a way to change the sound for a calendar event?
Hello Boe, yes you can do it on your s10 in the notched wheel in outlook I also think on the pc. Notched wheel notification tick emits a sound, For sound on s10 you have to choose if you have sounds recorded on your S10 in a directory SD.
