HTC Camera > HTC Album - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Ok, I have the excellent HTC Album installed on my Vario III. Great stuff.
It would be a perfect setup if the Camera app linked through to the Album app when I click the 'Album' button when in the camera. Right now, it opens up Windows Picture and Video Viewer, which is poo poo in comparison to Album.
Surely, there must be some registry tweak to change the default picture app from HTC Camera?

I was wondering this too

nope, this is hard coded and can not be changed..

to set album being default viewer go to HKLM - software - htc - htcalbum - default viewer set to "1"

That doesn't fix the problem.

THe only supposed way this has been accomplished is to overwrite your \windows\pimg.exe file with a copy of the htcalbum.exe file. But this would involve completely losing your pimg.exe (the current default image viewer) since its not backup-able. And you'd need to use a prog like Resco explorer to even do that. I didn't try this. Not willing to lose my pimg.exe. I've seen a couple people who did manage to do it asking if they can somehow get their pimg.exe back. I took that as a bad sign. But I wouldn't know since I didn't dare it.

Just replace the camera.exe with the New camera.exe form HTC TOUCH Dual !

replacing the camera.exe will completely overwrite the not only the picture viewer, but also the camera application.
is the camera app from HTC Touch better? Does it support the 3 MP?

where would one get the new camera app? is the camera lagg and slow like on the tilt?

I haev been trying to locate a copy of the new camera.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY HTC DOESNT SPEND A LITTLE TIME TO UPDATE THE HTC SOFTWARES ON THE TILT/KAISER.
Man the other HTC devices are so different from this one we have and have no direct internal competitions. they SHOULD DO IT.

Cannot Replace windows/camera.exe file to HTC VIVA

HTC Album is great! Very very nice, but it's still very basic and lacks some functions such as folder selection, GIF/PNG support, file info, ... but one may argue that it's simplicity is the best thing about it.
Personally, I thank God for iPhone. It was a great motive that made Windows Mobile developers work a little bit harder

I did not know that about WMPlayer. I edited the post and took that out. Yeah I think all the Touch Craze came about because of the IPhone. Its time to get back to reality and take it out. Takes up too much memory and doesn't work well.

last time i recalled the PPC(touch screen) were out b4 the iphone.. if ur not so into touching why not replace ur PPC with a smart phone?
and removing apps from the the phone storage wont make the phone faster.
I'm not too fond of the touch interface either as it's currently implemented. Other than using it for the cube, it doesn't work very well. IE scrolling lags, and it often goes the wrong way. If horizontal scrolling is required also, it becomes a chore to use touchflo. Instead, I find myself still using smartskey to map the volume slider as a page-up page-down mechanism for scrolling. (Does no one else still use that program?) Otherwise, individual programs implement the touch interface so much better and smoother (e.g., PocketCM and Opera Mini) that I find the touchflo kinda useless.
And yes, HTC Home is just a space hog. My vote would be to leave it as a cab install.

I agree...I dont understand why some people are so against Touchflo and the Cube. I run multiple programs at once and I never have a problem with memory/storage. I can open the cube while I have Opera running full screen and switch the song thats playing and I experience zero lag. We are running phones with the main interface being used by Touch so we might as well use what improves that.

I really wasn't saying the timing of who came out with what first. Rock & Roll was out long before Elvis or the Beatles. I was speaking to the Craze over it. When the Iphone came out, everyone wanted it on the PPC.
I had a smartphone, but prefer the PPC. I like using a stylus. I like the keyboard tucked away. Its just everytime I try to use the cube it totally sucks. It does take up more memory. Definately.
Touchflo and the Cube did Not come with the Wing. There are other apps where touching works well. Anyway you can always add them by .cab files. I was just suggesting the perfect rom be without them baked in.
People tend to identify "touchflo" with the cube. I personally think the cube is useless, but I can't live without my BioTouch scrolling. That's why I add the BioTouch part of touchflo only to my ROMs and not the cube.

Upgrade for TYTN II Available on HTC CLUB

Hello,
Go to HTC CLUB :
07/03/2008
Hot fix for TyTN II photo quality issue
If you zoom in on a captured photo and notice grainy, maze-like patterns within the image itself (this problem is caused by too much sharpness enhancement being applied in bright-light environments), please download and install this hot fix to solve the problem. Sharpness parameters within the photo will then be reduced with only a minimal loss of image sharpness.
enjoy

If HTC would be in pharmacy and drugs, i would call it a "Placebo".
# of pixels per pic similar as before fix though. No granular difference even with a x20 zoom enlarging soft.
Taken with same position - same light
Downside:
Application starts slower and focus takes longer.
Tested on Alex's 5.2 Home.
I took 2 pictures from the same object - one before installing the cab, and one after installing the cab.
Result: can't see any improvement too

There IS a definite improvement. The 'Zoom' which HTC refers to is not the camera zoom when taking, but the post viewing on a PC or in the album app. I used to have this horrible 'hatching' type effect when shooting on 3mp especially in the sky. It was very noticable on cloudy days. This has now disappeared.
Worthwhile fix in my book.

This might just be an updated Camera application that most of us have already gotten thanks to Nadavi.
It's not a new app, just a couple of new, replacement DLLs. It seems to do what the description says it does - it gets rid of the herringbone pattern that sometimes appeared in the grain of pictures in certain lighting situations. The pattern was only ever seen when pictures were blown up.
It's not a magic fix for everything else people dislike about the camera app, but it's worth installing.
according to Alex on this dup thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375100&page=3
It is newer then what polaris camera tossed in, thats if they did toss in anything. both DLLs were newer when I overwrite in my windows folder using totalcmd. Try dragging the pictures to a computer with a good monitor and start zooming in. Maybe if someone can experiment in a zoom in test with old driver to new drivers.

If you're manually installing the DLLs, ModuleID.dll isn't required. It's used in the cab install/uninstall process. Updated the duplicate thread for clarity about ModuleID.DLL too.
Is there a way that you could post the cab itself? I have a Tilt and HTC eclub won't let me get the file. Thanks

[APP]UPDATED VERSION HTC Album Version 2.5 from Touch HD(MADE VGA)

In other news here is the HTC ALBUM Version 2.5.1820.4127 and 3.0.1911.1826. the only thing i see different is 2.5 version does have Album Social Networking and it works with FOOTPRINTS. 3.0 is truely from TP2 and doesn't support footprints. other than that it moves quicker than other albums. this is all i can see that is different. (THANKS TO CONFLIPPER FOR THE CORRECTIONS)
to use it with FOOTPRINTS with version 2.5 you must have it installed already. When you click on a picture that has gps lat and long cordinates in it select menu and scroll down. under save to contacts you will see 2 blanked out lines. the one under save contacts opens google maps while the one under that one opens up footprints.
Version 2.5.1820.4127 that works with footprints, you can download from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ynjlvtjawvc
Version 3.0.1911.1826 - deleted due to issues still being fixed. will post fixed version when completed.
see pictures below from version 2.5 that works with footprints

This Album is not from the Touch Pro 2. This album was found in a Touch HD rom. I have had this one working for over a month now. If you would like the Touch Pro 2 Rom then you need to Download Dutty 1.8 rom. and inside the rom folder there is a cab file. The cab file has the new Album.
There is nothing in there that I have notice to benefit everything though. It does not allow for facebook upload, and I dont see a lot of benefits of it.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\MASD]
"Album"="3_0_19111826_0"
That should be the proper version has well. Check out the HV. and you will see that is the registry key.
Hmm, install unsuccessful. Do i have to do something to get this on my phone?
I have a Sprint Touch Pro.
EDIT: Turned off TF3D, reboot, then the install went fine.

[obselited] Touch HD Camera Apps (oem folder for cook)

This thread is obselited now. Just use the camera package from Rhodium.
It works for me but not gurantee works for you. It can co-exist w/ X1's original camera app (of course, only run 1 at a time). Interesting added feature including Panorana and GPS Photo.
Known bugs that I don't not really care and I won't fix (but more than welcome if you report yr solution here):
You must have HTC album installed (most people do since included w/ TF3D)
5M resolution will not work since X1 got a 3.2mb camera only (5M is not available in Rhodium package)
Picture Theme is not working. (Rhodium package is working)
Front Camera won't work
Edit: updated w/ Registry settings to make this apps the default Camera apps such that Contact Card photo taking and HTC Footprint will work.

Awesome, will try thx.
If this works then it should be good with the footprints vga adapted cab then..
will have a play later.
where can I chose what Mpixel to use? Can't find it.
EDIT: found it but nothing happens when i click that button.
I've dropped it ontop of Itjes 4 rom, but am getting unsigned/files missing.
It has to be cooked in. For me it´s working fine. It´s slower than the Xperia camera but it solves the HTC Album issue (HTC Album allways tells me that it can´t play 3GP files by hitting the stop button).
Thx again Jack!

Does this mean we can take videos using this app and choose to save it as an avi or mpeg?, which means better quality playback?.....because at the moment my X1i under VGA and high quality frame rate settings is still blocky and not very smooth.
Which leads me to another question, does anyone know how to change the settings to save videos to mpeg or avi for better quality playback witout using a converter?.....is this even possible or is it a hardware issue?.....
import the attached provxml file with advanced configtool, then it works (for me)
