Hi.. what o you think about.
I don t know for which i should decide me.
Are there differences 'bout buttons or something else?...

Don't think there's a great deal of difference between them. I'm happy with my VarioIII
Aye and me, my Vario 3 has been sound since I got it.

Mine is even faster at "Active Sync" since I removed the A/V.
I found active sync wouldnt always sync. So I hard reset, reloaded apps and it still occured occasionally. After a 2nd hard reset, I could not activate the A/V (it kept activating then after each power on saying it wasnt activated, I'd re-activate it, and after power up it wasnt activated), so I removed it. Lo and behold, the active sync issues have disappeared.
I checked the F-Secure website (very little support there) and the only WM6 device they list is the HTC touch.
what's the software difference..
ist there a big branding (grey-pink and so on..) like on vario 2 on it?...
The only difference is the branding I believe, the Vario 3 has the T-Mobile stuff on it, such as Web n Walk instead of IE and T-Mobile branded on it... They are the same machine inside and you can always put whatever ROM you want on it to debrand the software!

Hi,
I should be getting my XDA Stellar tomorrow, I currently have a mini S and was just wondering wether there is an option to do a corporate install on the Stellar (removing all the O2 crap) like there was on the mini S.
Any Ideas?

When I started up my Stellar for the first time it just loaded the O2 custom stuff by default - don't think there was a way to stop it. You'll probably need to investigate how you change the ROM.
I'm in the process of trying to understand how this works from reading here but not confident enough I do understand it yet to even think about attempting it.
I loaded TomTom Nav 6 the other day & that seems to work well although it did completely freak at one point meaning all I got on the screen was the Tom Tom splash screen - even after a soft reset.
Managed to unload it & reload it & all has been OK since although yesterday the GPS went mental - couldn't find more than one or two satellites & at one point it was telling me I was somewhere out in the atlantic off the coast of France! (I was in my house near London at the time )
Overall I think its a good device. I just want to figure out how I can get it to default to using the available Wifi connection when I'm in the house rather than heading straight for a GPRS connection when I run Internet Explorer.
Anyone else?
How hard would it be to install a HTC ROM if I can't remove the O2 software?
Are there any benefits to having the O2 ROM as oppoes to the HTC ROM and Vice Versa?

I'd guess the O2 rom has some "bloat-ware" in it & it'll also contain all the settings you need for GPRS access, voicemail etc that it will program into the device for you.
I think O2's "Today" screen is a bit of a mess to be honest.
When you first start the thing up there is a 3-5 second delay after initial setup before it then runs the carrier's customisation
I saw something posted that if you pull the battery at this point then it will stop the customisation & you just get the standard HTC config. Not sure of what the potential risks are though.
Apparently you can do this at any point afterwards as well if you do a hard reset (don't know how you do that yet!)
I.
to stop the custom o2 install, when it says about to customer soft reset it by poking the stylus in the reset hole on the base of the phone
I've just left the stock ROM running, but stopped various aspects of the software that comes with it from starting up by removing the links from the startup menu. The device doesn't run slowly at all. I was amazed at how ugly the O2 stuff was!
I didn't bother with a new ROM, I have just installed the best bits of the HTC stuff from this forum (many thanks to many people, incidentally) and it improves the functionality of the device massively with very little work. Why O2 felt the need to replace good software with ugly rubbish I'll never know.
I run TomTom 6, and have never had any trouble with it at all; I always get a good quick lock, and have never found myself in the wrong country!

Use one of the attached cabs to identify your phone as an N95. Personally I use it for Vodafone Live access, but I'm told it also works for those on "Planet 3".
You can install and uninstall the cab to switch between N95 and TyTN II as required, but a soft reset is needed after installation.
It uses a modified "browser.dll" file, which is different for WM6 and WM6.1 so make sure you install the correct one...!
Iv installed the cab, although i dont understand what you mean with switching between n95 etc. I cant find any program or application that has been installed by doing cab installation that you suggested?! Cheers
It doesn't install any program. It changes the way your phone reports itself to websites. In this case the website will think you are holding a n95 which is one of their "approved! phones so it should just work. Try using IE to go back to the planet 3 page and see what happens with the cab installed.
Yeah, sorry. I wasn't very clear.
If this is installed then the website you are visiting thinks you are holding an N95.
If it is not installed, then the same website will think you are holding a TyTN II.
By installing / removing / installing / removing, etc. You can "switch" between an N95 and a TyTN II
I see what you mean now about switching. Installed and tested and it works really well thanks the difference between 3 HSDPA and T-Mobile HSDPA is amazing dont know what T-Mobile are playing at its so slow!
Glad it's working!

Sub69!!
You are my hero. I have been searching for months to find a 3UK cab that would let me use Windows Live Messenger while I had the 3UK sim card in my Kaiser. The original 3UK settings even blocked the use of Live Messenger while connected to my wifi if I had the 3UK sim card in the Kaiser.
Now you come along and solved all my problems...thank you thank you thank you!
Just a shame that I bought agile mobile a few months ago to workaround the problem, but that's life
Thank you again kind sir.
oops double post
they dont share at the moment, not expected til later on the year. does take a bit of time to set this kind of stuff up! only announced last month!
also works for 3ireland
Glad it's working for everyone. I've certainly found it very handy - Still can't believe that Vodafone and 3 make us use workarounds like this though.
I wouldn't be paying Vodafone £10 per month for MobileTV if I hadn't figured this out, so they'd be worse off. Have to wonder how many new subscribers they'd get if they dropped the restriction entirely...?

Just used this sim unlocker worked fine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039
That sounds great!
Does it work for HTC-P3600/SPV M700 as well?
Excellent piece of work!!! Many thanks
Thanks very much sub69 for your hard work!
Hello everyone!
Thank-you very much sub69 for sharing your knowledge & expertise on this matter!
I have just taken out a contract with "3", and would like to use my unlocked SPV M700 (HTC Trinity) to access the plethora of services I am entitled to as a 3 contract customer!
I was wondering though (as I'm quite happy with my current setup/config of my SPV M700) whether the WM6 version will work on WM5, or is the .dll file significantly different between WM5 and WM6 (as I did notice WM6 and WM6.1 have different versions)?
Many thanks for your help in advance...
Any need to "switch back"?
Dear all,
I am really interested in this file in order to be able to access Planet 3 / Austria. Before installing I have a tiny question, however.
You say:

Now my question is: If Planet 3 successfully can be displayed with a HTC phone (in that way disguised as a Nokia one) - is there any need to switch back to the original HTC-mode?
I mean - does the N95-cab file affect the HTC's other functions in any way?
Because it seems a lot of work to constantly "switch" between HTC and N95, which requires a soft reset as it happens.
I'd be glad if I could just install the N95-disguise on my HTC TyTN II and leave it that way.
Thank you very much in advance!

Stephan

Hello all, 1st post here. I will be aquirring a XDAIIi in a week or two as a relative is replacing his firms pda`s and im getting one of the old units.
I know they were on O2 and I have a T-mobile sim so Id like to unlock it.
I have found the unlock info on this forum and will give that a go.
My question is, what should I check for to make sure it will be running as best it can be and how can I find out what s/ware should be loaded onto it and is there a way of getting a master copy of the original build or will this all be on the software disks that came with it ?
also is there any particular sat nav s/ware that works better than most on the XDAIIi?
I understand the xdaIIi is called something else in places, what is that name ?
sorry there such open questions nut couldnt think how to phrase them in order to do a search.
many thanks in advance, Lee.
Moving to alpine.

I have sucessfully unlocked three of my firm's old Alpine's, aka XDA IIi, using the file in this post, All in one SIM unlock tool, personally i found the earlier version more successful, but you may be OK with the newer version. The biggest thing i would say is to have patience, when you run it, it will seem to finish and nothing has happened. Wait until you receive a message saying it has been unlocked, and then soft reset.
Only other advice i can give is to do a hard reset to get it back to factory settings and then when you get a popup saying "Applying customisations in 3 seconds", or something similar, soft reset. This will prevent the O2 stuff being installed, leaving you with more RAM to play with.
Thanks Ive sucsefully unlocked it for t-mobile, fantastic. just need to find out what else I can do to improve this pda.
Don't try to improve it
as is it is one of the best ever made OK yes it restricted because of only running 2003SE but it runs it dam fast. I have a friend that has a Orbit (the latest one by O2 thats the equivilent of the XDA IIi and mine is as fast as his and he ditched the crappy sat nav software that came with it to go back to TT6, ref sat nav software it runs TT 6 fine I have it on mine and have no problems whatso ever.
Hi,
I'm in the UK and renewing contract as I type. It's a business contract for approx. 11 sim card and 4 new handsets.
We go through a telecom company who provide the contract (this one is with O2) and the handsets.
Now, one of the handsets we've asked for is an HTC Tytn II...
BUT I'm not 100% sure if they plan to send an O2 Xda Stellar or an HTC Tytn II, as they are the same phone they may be planning to send either.
My question is this. Should I insist on an HTC Tytn II or would I be better with the Stellar?
I plan to use it as follows:
WIFI access wherever I can get it
3G/GPRS internet access on the phone
Use the phone as a 3G/GPRS modem for my laptop via bluetooth
Use a Jabra BT Headset
Use it as a tomtom satnav
Sync to Outlook 2003
Does a UK supplied Tytn II come with the tomtom taster software?
If not can the downloaded copy (of the taster software) I have got be used on it easily?
Can I easily put the tomtom software on a stellar (I'm concerned about the problems I've read about the internal GPS setting)
If I get the Tytn II will it be hard to get the 3G/GPRS and laptop modem stuff working with 02 setting etc.?
I'm concerned that the Stellar would be locked to O2 so perhaps less future proof (If I leave O2)
In a nutshell, should I be concerned which version I get given that I will be on O2 and want to use it as described?
I hope you can help as I want to send an email asap if I should be insisting on one version.
Regards
Bryan
I'll be very surprised if you get the HTC Tytn II and not the O2 XDA Stellar. My company is with O2 and we have been sent the Stellars (which do all the things you are asking about, by the way)
The other good thing is that, from my experience, all O2 phones are unlocked anyway (I've tried a SE K850i, a Nokia E90 and the Stellar and all can be used with other sims right out of the box)
The O2 doesn't come with the TomTom taster software though (We bought full copies of it and it works beautifully)
If you're really concerned, ask O2 to they will send you a O2 Stellar on trial so you can confirm everything for yourself. That's what I did
Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply.
O2 aren't sending the phone as such, we use an intermediary as we get a better deal from them. They may of course just be getting the phones from O2 anyway and that's why I'm concerned that I may be getting a Stellar when I asked for a Tytn II.
I'm just wondering if I would be better insisiting on a Tytn II or on a Stellar or should I not be bothered?
I understand it's the same device and the hardware is the same so they will both do the same job, just wondered which was best for me given that the O2 will be branded in the software (I assume) and maybe the vanilla Tytn II will be easiest to get working with other stuff. Or will the Stellar work better/easier with their 3G settings etc...
The Tytn II is a charcoal type colour isn't it? and the Stellar silver?
If so, I prefer the aesthetics of the Tytn II but can't just make a decision on colour now, can I
Well, from what I've read on this forum, it seems that the O2 software for whatever reason seems to run a bit better than the standard HTC stuff. If you don't want the O2 branding on there, hard-reset the phone when you get it and do a soft reset when it starts installing the O2 software. Hey presto, clean O/S.
From my usage of the Stellar, I've noticed a few things based on comments by other TyTnII/XDA users on this site.
1. Camera - Quality is reasonably good if you can keep your hand steady while you take the picture. The preview isn't very good but I think that's more the camera sensor constantly trying to re-adjust the brightness/contrast/colours more than anything else.
2. Screen Change (when opening/closing the keyboard) - I've looked at a few videos on YouTube showing some appalling screen change times. The Stellar that I have doesn't seem to suffer from this problem. It swaps between portrait/landscape extremely quickly with only a slight delay when going from landscape back to portrait.
3. Data connectivity - Overall, I haven't had a problems with data connections whether using Wifi or 3G/GPRS. Pocket IE is garbage but the new Opera browser is pretty good. Still not as good as the browser on the iPhone but it's certainly getting there.
4. Tomtom - The full version of TomTom 6 works fine with my Stellar. Set the GPS to Other NMEA GPS Receiver, 4800 Baud Rate on Com 4 and it works fine. To speed up Satellite acquisition times, I always use the QuickGPS software that comes with the Stellar.
5. Audio - I have noticed the occasional playback glitch that others on this forum are reporting although it doesn't seem to happen as frequently. There does however always seem to be a slight stutter when the audio hardware is initialised for the first time, whether playing back a MP3 or using a Ring/Message tone. I suspect this is a driver issue and may get sorted in time. It's certainly not a deal-breaker for me though.
That's all I can think of at the moment. If anything else springs to mind, I'll put another post up.

Hi Bryan,
To answer in turn
Yes, a hard reset would bring back the branding unless you performed another soft reset after the hard reset (if you see what I mean )
Yes, they are the settings for the internal GPS. Initial satellite pickup after using QuickGPS (and using TomTom for the first time) was about 30 seconds.
Glad the rest was useful!
Alright folks, Touch HD Sec / CID / SIM Unlocker at yer service:
1) contributing forum members & Elite Team donators... Request a free unlock with your IMEI & email. - if you have an account that has a) existed for a good few months and b) you actually contribute to the site (technical wizardy, or general helpfulness - CONSISTENT AND REGULAR POSTING), then just drop me a message and it's yours, if you don't meet both a) and b) then don't bother - having an account that you rarely posted from is NOT in the least bit interesting.
2) everyone else (new accounts/unregistered/sod all posts, this means you): Get Sec / CID / SIM Unlocked Here
for those who don't know:
Security Unlock lets you flash radios from other devices... technically speaking you can flash any radio, but some will brick it (such as Topaz) - however, Diamond, Raphael and Kovsky should all be fine. It can also be an insurance policy against evil radios - people who had the Kaiser radio from hell will know what I mean.
CID unlock is largely redundant, however, it's quite useful if you like to keep your device on a stock SPL as it means you can flash any official ROM regardless of which brand it's intended for without changing SPL.
hey, i have a hermes 200 (vpa compact 3) with your spl on it, im getting a blackstone today hopefully, from orange, will this remove all locks on the phone as my dad already has one and its a fricken pig that they changed so much software.
also how long will it take to get a reply, as as soon aas i get the phone i want all locks removed.
yeah, it kills all locks off (though you have to select which you want removed and which you don't... just in case you're not interested in things such as sec unlock).
it gets delivered instantly.

For the better understanding would you please explain in your first post the benifits of the Touch HD CID/Security unlock options.
I feel we have a clear understandig of what a Sim Unlock does however many of our users have Sim Unlocked phones and might not understand that they would have more options with a CID or Security Unlocked device.
sigh... fine

Step 1 puts the latest Hard-SPL on your device, if you have an old ROM then that can happen, either upgrade to a newer ROM or downgrade Hard-SPL.

You should not have an issue with this as oilpro is know, on top of that I can confirm that he sends out software as I have a copy.
You just might have to wait till he gets back from work.
It's not a problem, I posted more to say that there could be a problem if its sent out straight away, and obviously I haven't got it straight away.
I had assumed from the beginning I would have to wait until this evening so no problems at all.
Sounds like a nice bit of software too.
Sim Unlock timeout
Hi guys
what can I do to shorten the sim unlock timeout I got a HTC Blackstone and I been waiting more than 15 Day`s(14 times wrong input) for a Timeout with no sim in it or a sim from an other provider then mine the phone is allways on night and day some say it takes about 7 day for a timeout but nothing happen`s maybe I need a spacial software for it.
Well guys and girls, My HD is now unlocked, it was sent straight away but got lost somewhere.
Oli manually sent again a few mins ago, I had to fire up my 32 bit netbook to do the honors.
All went perfectly.
Thanks again to Oli for the software.
Cheers.
