Creating Movies to watch on Kaiser/Tilt - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Currently I am using CloneDVD Mobile to create movies in DivX format (making them around 800~900kbs). I am also using TCPMP to view my movies that are on my MicrosdHC 6GB card. They play pretty good but I do get some video jumping from time to time...
Has anyone used other formats, is something else other than DivX better? Perhaps a iPod format (but is there a Quick Time for WM6)?
What about WMV and the Kaiser, I am thinking it is not better than DivX, anyone tried DVD's converted into WMV?

are you making them 320x240? when I scale down a regular divx movie that starts out around 700 megs and turn the resolution down to 320x240, they work perfectly for me.

Yes I am making them fit the Kaiser screen and it's pretty good viewing (matter of fact my kid is watching a movie now on my phone, CURIOUS_GEORGE).
It's just sometimes I get a little pause (~ 1 second).

hrmmm. which player are you using?

TCPMP Player RC2 I believe. There a better Divx Player?

The commercial CorePlayer, but it's only marginally better (as of now, at least), when it comes to plain DivX. Not so with more advanced formats like H.264, where CorePlayer is MUCH better.

What is/uses H.264?

i use pocket divx encoder to encode my movies...they look great

Just bought coreplayer, it does play my Divx files better.

I use DVDshrink and FAIRUSE. It compresses my movies down to around 300-350kbps avi file. They look and sound great.

i used Encode360 for my zune, appears to work well with my kaiser

I use pocket divx encoder (PDXE) and CloneDVD mobile. I've made hundreds of movies for my PDA's and have found that 320x240 with total bitrates under 500k play and look excellent, even on my 4" VGA iPaq4700 and Archos boxes. The difference between 475-500 vs 700 or more is minor and you just have bigger files and sometimes jerky playback with the higher bitrate settings.
I have TCPMP and Core players and they both perform the same with these, TCPMP has more plug-ins for streaming vid like youtube I believe.
Just my experience.

thanks. may i ask if there are types of files that real player can play, but tcpmp cannot?
Well, if it plays RMVB, then I'm sold. I can encode DVD rips down to 300 mb and have the same quality as a divx at 700.
thats a huge file at 300mb. im happy with mine being at 200mb still get good audio and video. tcpmp all the way. i dont know why but i just never liked real player

It won't play RMVB, only RM. Also, speed is not really good in our wizards. I suggest you to encode your DVDs in divx format (or xvid) and to use tcpmp. As for size, if you create PPC-optimized divx (resolution 320x200) you can compress a movie in as low as 100-150MB. Use pocket divx encoder 0.3.60, it's free and it's the best i've found (sadly, it doesn't run under server 2003, only XP ) Bye

TCPMP too slow on choppy on videos

Am i doing something wrong?

Did you try Raw FrameBuffer instead of the default DirectDraw video driver? Smooth as butter for me using Raw FrameBuffer.
I used Clone DVD Mobile to rip from DVDs on .wmv files. When I tried to play through TCPMP I got a message that it could not play the file (something to do with codecs).
I use that as well, what profile did you rip it to? You might try Pocket Divx Encoder (PDXE), it works well too.
I used Generic WMV, tried to keep it simple. I'll look up Pocket Divx Encoder. What player do you use on the Tytn?
heh, tcpmp isn't compatible with .wmv files. and video viewing on wmp is a less than pleasant experience.

it will work if you install the WM5 WMV9 codecs (search)
Found that DVDs encoded to 3gp work with WMP, no jerkiness with the video. Perhaps not the highest quality but adequate to keep me occupied during long waits.

I play TV episodes (HD rips) straight from p2p right into TCPMP, no reencoding. Am able to both on Hermes and Kaiser. Hermes I had to enable microdrive and increase buffer, Kaiser runs it like a champ!

AVI\XViD 608x336

Is there any way to get large videos to play @ full speed?

I'm using TCPMP and I can't get bigger files to play smooth for the life of me...any suggestions?

I second that Especially the new Zune is really nice. You can connect via your router to sync your music. I just hate the zune syncing software it's such a pain in the ass. I wish we could sync with WMP. I mean come on seriously.
Pocket Divx encoder
I had the same problem with my touch. TCPMP would not play large video's .avi even though it supports it. I used Pocket Divx Encoder to reduce the .avi according to my screen size and now I can watch any .avi without any problems and the audio and picture is still incredibly clear. I max out video and audio quality still with no problems during playback.
Pocket Divx Encoder is free
Hope this works for you and enjoy your video's
I use CorePlayer (based on TCPMP ) to play my Divx files (700 to 900 Mo each resolution 660*360, datarate 1010kbps) without any specific Mobile transcoding and it plays quite well with the right settings, with some rare glitches (but i guess it will never work flawlessly until we have the real Kaiser drivers).
TCPMP is good, but Coreplayer is faster on the Kaiser from my own experience.
The only down side about Coreplayer (aside from the fact its not freeware) is that it cannot play AC3 sound unlike TCPMP (due to open source licence)
why i dont understand it...when i had my standard att WM 6.0 rom that came with my tilt...i watched avis and mpeg4//divx movies CRYSTAL CLEAR....and thatt was with no htc ca driver or none of that ****. And now ive upgraded to WM 6.1..first duttys hybrid then L26 and now garmins...and each rom has the same problem...old tcpmps crash and when i use the repack tcpmp app and it works....i have SLUGGISH and chopppy fps when i watch avi movies and mpeg stufff. How is this possible with all the new drivers and such....it was crystal clear to watch movies with WM 6.0..but with 6.1 its choppy and ****ty playback? has anybody found a better fix for this other then converting the movies to sccreen resolution?
have lookedeverywhere for pocket divx encoder but unable to d/l it can anyone post please?
Try xvid4psp. It's free, fast and has enough options. I use MP4 iPod 5.0G settings for Kaiser.
thanks will give it a shot

Sorry, my previous post was meant to be reply to felixthecat.
So, to make things clear:
- XviD4PSP is not media player for PPC.
- XviD4PSP is software for converting videos. You can find it here.
- MP4 iPod 5.0G is just one of the format settings in Xvid4PSP.

I use Core Player for videos. Videos converted with XviD4PSP using my settings does not play well in WM player. You can try it with some other settings.
Here are my current settings:
- Format: MP4 iPod 5.0G
- Denoise/Sharpen: Disabled
- Brightness/Contrast: Disabled
- Video encoding: XviD HQ Ultra
- Audio encoding: AAC-LC ABR 128
I don't know what you mean with "bigger vids", but I use it for converting my divx/xvid movies and shows to MP4 and it works well. I think it supports even DVD files, but i didn't try that.
Last time i checked it took 6 minutes to convert some 30 minutes divx show to MP4 (Athlon X2 4000+, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800GT).
One more thing about Core Player
Core Player with default setup gives me audio out of sync. But you can adjust that in options.
i tried those settings and didn't get a good result
works now i have upgraded coreplayer ... thanks alot

how to improve video playback

i know the Diamond is positioned as a multi media phone, but every video/movie file i play on it is very jerky. From cartoons (southpark) to music videos and converted movies, they all play like crap. is there a way to improve the performance of video playback?
What player are you using?
I use CorePlayer. It plays perfectly smoothly. (both AVI's and H.264 mp4's)
I've just been using the stock player
Use CorePlayer.
When people ask a question, they put a question mark at the end.
so no free solutions/players to solve this issue, eh? Wasn't planning on spending $20 for a media player.
You can try TCPMP (the seed of CorePlayer). It´s not as much optimized but it´s much better than the Windows Media Player, and plays much more formats.
Search the forum for "TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB". The standard version of TCPMP doesn't run in WM6.1, but this one does and includes the more common plugins (MP4, AC3, etc...).
Good luck.
I got some nasty vsynch issues when playin back AVIs using Coreplayer, both in Directdraw and GDI modes. I convert AVIs to 320x240 using SPB DVD, because native resolution (DVD format for the most) is quite sluggy. In 320x240 it's perfectly smooth, except those v-synch issues. Do you have the same issue ?

I rendered to 320x240 also using tcpmp it plays smoothly, but only uses a small part of the screen. switching to fullscreen or zoom -> framelags about 20! secs. very disgusting. This Phone seems NOT to be a multimediaPhone
I'm using TCMP, think i use GDI mode.
No Vsync issues, no problems. 90% of media files work perfect (avi, divx, etc)
http://www.diemetrix.net/diemetrix/TCPMPforWM6.CAB
yes but in what quality and bitrate
edit: now thats weird I tried play same movie 640 x 364 avi and benchmark:
coreplayer QTv mode high quality 96%
TCPMP RAW dither on 99% so where is problem with QTv support??? Yeah and there is with GDI and also RAW discusting vsync issue
anyone know if its better xvid or divx in case of performance???

films for diamond(codec,bitrate...)

so i woould like to convert hd films(mkv container) into dovx or mp4 to watch on my diamond(of course i will change resolution to 640x480), i am not sure what program do i need to do this, also i am not sure what bitrate to use(600 enough??) and what format is better divx or mp4??
also i have some divx films is it better to change them into mp4(again what bitrate and aspect ratio??)?
thx
Movie converters....
Have a look here... there are loads of solutions.
what about codecs and bitrate and aspect ratio???
now i am using xilisoft video converter
I just dump the complete 600MB-700MB. DVD rip into the phone and play it as is with Core Player. No conversions or resizes.
Very good quality. Very good.
Greets.
so you just rip them into divx and copy them into diamond and than wathc?? what about subtitles?!?

Dont use subtitles so I dont know.
Just rip the DVD and dump the ripped file into Internal as is.
I use Coreplayer to play and it works awesomely.
For converting DVD's Spb Mobile DVD is a really functional converter. I don't know if it still has that audio bug in Vista, but it works great on XP.
For other video files use Coreplayer (1.3 is the latest version), consider it as the VCL player for the PC (if I may compare).
i have coreplayer 1.2.5 not sure how much better 1.3
i use vista and i have some dvd-r at home but when i rip them ant than put them on diamond i have black flags at the botom and up(probably aspect ratio problem?)
1.3 doesn't differ much from 1.25. And you might wanna change the zoom to "stretch to screen". Pixel aspect ratio is best on "auto". Be sure to put the video output to "qtv display" and enable the "TytnII driver mode". I got every movie going flawlessly on my MDA IV. (Maybe some frame drops on the 1st 30 seconds but rewind and enjoy the video...)
it is enabled and i also use stetch to screen but there is stil black flags at the botom and up?!?!
and i cannot get why i cannot convert hd films into sd(640x480) films?!?

I'm using SmartMovie, which is the only player for WM with subtitle support as far as I know. It comes with its converter on the PC side. See Lonely Cat Games web site for details.
