Wont charge via USB when phone on - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi guys,
I must be being slow here - my tytn 2 wont charge via the USB cable when the phone is on which is a total PITA in the car.
Can someone point me at what I am doing wrong...
Thanks
Stuart

there's an option under settings > power > advanced that allows you to turn charging on/off while plugged in and turned on. See if that box is checked, if so, uncheck it.

Does it only do this on your car charger? If so, reboot your phone while it's plugged in and then it will work. My Hermes did the same thing. It has to do with the car charger in that it isn't wired right.

Thanks a bunch that fixed it for me!

I'm curiuos why you wouldn't let it charge from the USB cable. Is there some logical reason to not have this enabled?

Read http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...y car or USB charger! It just doesn't charge! for an explanation.

Some users leave their devices plugged in via USB all day whilst sat at their desk and dont want the device on charge the entire time.

One that springs immediately to mind - Because you're travelling, your laptop isn't plugged in to sync or share Internet, and you don't want the PDA sucking the life out of your laptop battery.

It's terribly slow on USB, but it does work with mine... But it seems the kaiser needs quite some milliamps of current to get charged....: more than the average USb port delivers (hence, that's why only the supplied charger charges fast enough) i guess...
thats weird, mine doesnt even go into charging mode. do you think that the USB charging is spoilt and I should return to get it for an exchange?

Did you check the (new?) option:
Settings/Battery/advanced/" ..."when device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC.
When that one is ticked, no charging.
huib
Can you check:
Settings -> System -> Power -> Advanced :
[ ] When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to PC
ahhh ok this is a new option that i have not seen on other wm6 devices. thanks! yea now it charges. however with the option ticked, it didnt seem to charge even with the device off.
guess i should go exploring all the settings

I have the idea that this is done not to overload USB ports, or to empty a portable's or UMPC battery.
So when I will have this new Shift.............. then I will swtich loading off.

Charging the battery via USB

Apologies for what might be a seriously n00b question, but does the Diamond recharge the battery while connected to a computer via the USB cable? I want to use the Diamond as a modem/router for my laptop for several hours at a time, but want to make sure that the battery will remain charged.
yes it does.

thanks. that'll be good for using GPS in the car and not having enough juice!
you just need to be aware that depending on the curretnt your car usb port thing can put out it is possible that you can't charge the battery as fast as you're consuming from it. so you'd just be extending battery life but not making it last as long as it's plugged in.
depending on the output of the USB charger that is being used in the car, you may be ok. I noticed that when I had TomTom running with GPS and the backlight turned up, battery status was reporting around 270 ma being drawn from the battery, so as long as that is accurate, and the charger can put out more than that, then you should be ok.
Thanks guys. Its quite likely the consumption will be at a rate higher than charging. I'll have to do some tests

ca u sync vith pc?
Did u check in settings/system/power/advanced and the option to not charge the phone while he is turned on?
Does it load when you use an external charger, could be your mini-USB connector is damagad, but also that your PC's USB port does not deliver enough power to charge it, try another PC etc

That is weird. That means its not a hardware related - not damaged usb pin(at least I think). But I dont know what can cause it. U can try hardreset, but only as a last resort.
If I turn GPS and Bluetooth/wifi on, my USB charger wouldn't charge a device also, just because it isn't that powerful. That might be the cause.

Make sure this checkbox is NOT checked:
Start > Settings > System > Power > Advanced > When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC
**EDIT:
oops.. sorry for being a smart a**. A poster already suggested this.

Disable USB charging

Does anyone know how to disable charging through USB?
Standard question, I know, but I still could not find the answer.
Disable USB charging:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
and change the EnableUsbCharging to '0' then soft reset
Click to collapse
However, I don't have the EnableUsbCharging key
Cut the +5V power cable of your USB cable
Click to collapse
This renders the complete USB not working.
Why do I want to disable charging? It's definately not bad for your battery

No, not for my phone's battery. It is for my laptop's battery when I'm using the phone as a router in the train.
So, does anyone know? Thanx!
There's an option in the power settings to not charge when plugged into a computer.
No, it cannot be thát simple. LOL, let me check this
Genius. Thanks for the answer! I feel stupid now
Its definitely on mine under battery settings:
"When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC"
Yes, it is here too. Thank you! My previous remarkt was my thought aloud when reading your post. I really feel stupid by directly trying to dig through the registry instead of looking in the normal settings first.
Again, thanks

It could be that we have not encountered this error. I for one have not. My advice would be try another cable if you haven't already.
Are you plugging in your phone in a usb port in your car or ate you using a car charger?

I don't think you have to access developer options for that. Isn't there a notification in the pulldown shade you can click and change from data transfer to charge only?
I've used it on my laptop, which has a USB-C port capable of fast charging my phone. I plug it in, change the option in the pulldown shade to charge only, and boom, it starts fast charging.
