I have the hardest time making it find addresses. Businesses - no problem, works great. Unfortunately it thinks everything I put in is a Business name...
Is there a particular trick to making it realize I'm entering an address?
It all depends on where you enter the address. Note that on the home screen there are two places to enter info, one has a magnifying glass next to it, and one right below it has two arrows. For a buisiness name, you want to enter it next to the magnifying glass. For a street address, you want to enter it in the line below that. Actually you want to select "Choose a new location..." and then enter the address.
I have been trying to figure this out forever. It didn't used to be this way. there was an update that changed this. you used to be able to use the top bar with the magnifying glass. WOW. so, you have to use new location everytime?? i understand if this were meant more for profit, but there are no ads, and microsoft has no other gps-ish type program. I'd like to keep using it. i like it better than google, but it seems kinda clunky using it that way. keep the bottom for city/state, top bar for what you are lookin for in that location. that's my thought, anyway

ADDRESS BOOK & OTHER PROBS FACED SINCE GETTING KAISER!-1st TIME HTC USER, NEED HELP!
Hey Everyone..
Have major probs with the following:
1) You can't have more than one mobile number per person. Some people have more than one number
2) Being able to create lists for purpose of emailing or texting a list. I mean you can create categories but you cant use the categories for anything apart from filtering your address book!???
3) Also being able to insert a number from your phonebook within a message (without sending a vcard)
4) When you slide out the keyboards, my appointments cant be seen on the screen (if held vertically you normally can, but when keyboard out you cant, well you can see the top of the text for this only) and you cant scroll down to see it neway but you should be able to see this only on the one page.
5) Speaker phone microphone doesnt work properly. People complain they cant hear me!
Anything out there to solve these?
Really appreicate your help.
1) You can't have more than one mobile number per person. Some people have more than one number
There more than 1 spot for phone #'s. work tel, mobile tel, home tel, car tel, company tel, work2 tel, home 2 tel. If someone you know has more than 7 phone #'s, and you didnt get them on the first 7 phones, they're probably dead in a gutter anyway.
2) Being able to create lists for purpose of emailing or texting a list. I mean you can create categories but you cant use the categories for anything apart from filtering your address book!???
Create lists for emailing or texting? Not sure what you mean here. But when sending email or texts, click on the "To:" and it will bring up your address book and you can add to your list of people getting it.
3) Also being able to insert a number from your phonebook within a message (without sending a vcard)
Pull up contacts. Select|copy| paste. It's just like windows XP.
4) When you slide out the keyboards, my appointments cant be seen on the screen (if held vertically you normally can, but when keyboard out you cant, well you can see the top of the text for this only) and you cant scroll down to see it neway but you should be able to see this only on the one page.

The speaker phone sucks on these phones and has since the first generation. Learn to not use it.
Hey Cheers for your reply,
in regards to your answers
1) Yep, I know you can put more than one number within that section, but lets say they have 2 mobile numbers (which many do these days to save money). Then if you put it within the home field you cant text it...?? Again anything that can be uploaded to improve this?
2) In terms of lists. On virtually every other fone..nokias, sony ericssons PDA phones, samsungs etc. You have the capability of making a list. i.e. if you are messaging the same group of people on a regular basis...e.g. for work you deal with a group of 10 contacts for a certain issue..you can select that list and it will come up with contacts in the "to" bit without selecting the contacts individually all the time..this is usually basic functionality in most phones to do this for texting and emailing..but surprised the Windows mobile doesnt have this. Its a function I have used a lot...so wondering if there is any program or something which can be uploaded to improve this?
3) With the copy and paste function tried it..and didnt work..even if it did.. it is really impractical..imagine you are writing a text to someone..Hi.blah blah blah..btw the number of ... is...and then as most phones again have..which is really basic..there should be an insert number from phonebook..but instead you have to come out of the whole text..go to the phonebook (which i have done btw)..copy the number..but guess what..as soon as I go back to the text..it doesnt allow me to paste it! Basic functionality problem there
4) Any body got a response to my number 4 above?
5) Yep thats what im trying to do
Thanks for your help..and appreciate if anybody has more suggestions for the above

You can definately text the second, third, or whatever number in your phone book. Create your message and rather than starting to type the name of your contact into the 'To' field, click in the empty 'To' field to bring up the address book. if you select a contact with more than one phone number, a box will pop up asking you which number you want to use.

You're right - it's a pretty common fuction and WM6 should have it. There may some commercial app available but I'm not aware of anything.

I normally try to get the phone number before starting the text! it's then so much easier to insert when you're writing your text. Again, it's a pity this fuctionality isn't built in.

You mean the HTC home plugin takes up to much room? Yep, it does! But then you don't need to use it. Experiment with different home screen plugins from SPB software, such as SPB diary, SPB shell etc. You should be able to find something to suit you.

The speakerphone sucks? Does it? I don't use it, but will have to test it now!

I agree its a little inconvenient, but if your a fast user you can easily tap the windows key then contacts then quickly locate the contact, copy the number and then paste it into the msg (by hitting start then messages or the message button on the phone itself).
# 4 You need some software like SPB Mobile Shell (search for the thread called post a picture of your today screen). Because there is no current way to decrease the size of the clock. You can disable the HTC Home plug in (clock and sms/phone/email notification icons) then the whole screen will be the bottom part, but you forego the cool weather/launcher/profiles/today plugin of HTC.
# 5 speaker phone like camera plain SUCKS!!!
I recently purchased the Armor Case for my tilt, and I love it. However, the plexiglass screen cover prohibits me from dialing with the case closed. So every time I need to dial a number that is not one of my contacts, or navigate through a touch-tone menu, I have to open the case.
What I am looking for is a dialer plugin that allows me to use the d-pad to select the onscreen numbers, thus bypassing the "tap" requirement.
I assumed this would be a built in option, as the d-pad works fine for navigating menus and the today screen, for example, and was stunned to find that no such option exists, and that it seems I am the only one frustrated by this.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, or at least validate my frustration?
Thank you
I really like the Polaris office suite (I think it comes from the SGSII), but was having some issues with the spreadsheet. And there's no users manual on the web, although many people have searched for one.
I was trying to create a new sheet to convert prices from pesos to dollars, but I couldn't get the equations to work. Every time I put in "=b2/18", the answer would come up as "#value", meaning there was some error. It took a few hours to figure out that the price I was putting into column B was being interpreted as text.
To input as a number, using the swype keyboard, you need to select a blank cell (if it was already input as text, I haven't figured out how to tell it to think of the cell as a number). Menu...Edit mode. Press the cell entry box on top. Press the "SYM" key to get the number pad - but this is "text" numbers, as far as I've been able to tell. To get a real "number" number pad, you need to press and hold the 123 ABC key, until the number pad comes up. Now you can input equations and numbers as numbers, and not text. And all calculations now work.
Anyway, it's a really, really nice program. Press the function key next to the input box in edit mode, and see all the options. Wow.
This should be in Themes and Apps.
Thread moved to proper forum.
Is there a work around for this?
Basically, most web site that you visit to activate drop down boxes, the mouse hover function does this, as I am using my finger, I cant hover a mouse.... so the box snaps open and shut too quickly.
This is a problem in IE10 and affects the surface too I believe. Unfortunately we are stuck with IE10 on the device.... In IE9, it used to bring up a text box....
I spend quite a lot of time surfing, whilst travelling to work.... If this cant be fixed, soon, my phone will have to go back, as I believe it is not fit for purpose.
Other phones and in fact I-devices work around this. I think arrogantly, Micosoft believe that web developers should change their devices....:laugh:
On WP7 it usually works if I press and hold on the drop down, which opens the "copy url" dialog, then I tap elsewhere to get that to go away. The dropdown usually activates at this point.
You have to admit it is pretty dumb to have a dropdown menu be a link in of itself. There are a number of things besides touch devices that can't work with this correctly, and frankly it's just annoying because if the drop down delay is too long, I click it thinking it's like every desktop menu ever, and it brings me where I don't want to go. I don't know who thought it would be good to defy conventional wisdom and change up the way things work on the web vs in software.
I flashed my captivate to cyanogenmod 9.1.0. Android version 4.0.4. Now my ability to copy/paste is missing. Before when I would hold on text an option to copy would appear. Now all it does it highlight the single word with no options. How do I get copy/paste back?
Thanks!!
do you get a couple of anchors on each end of the word. you drag these to select text then touch and hold the text until the icons appear for cut, copy, and paste. use the icons.
Thanks. I did not see the icons at the top of the screen. I feel dumb.

that's what I tell my clients, students, friends, and mentees.
We get used to seeing a feature in one place, in a particular form, and when it moves to a new place in a new form, it is easy to miss it.
If one sat down in your car to start it and the ignition key had been moved to the opposite side of the steering column, one would possibly think first 'who stole my keyhole?' and second 'where is it?' I think it is in our nature to first feel, then think. It happens so fast, we don't even notice the feeling is still driving 'the thinking'.
happy flashing.
