Custom Alarm tune - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi. How can I add to the alarm rings?
I have a custom tune which I would like to use. Do you know which folder I need to place it in to make it avilable as a selection in the drop down list ?
Max

Just drop'em straight in the windows folder! At least this works for wav-files.

I dropped an MP3 in the windows folder, but it doesnt work. Thanks. I will try dropping a WAV file there.

It has to be a .wav file. The smaller the size, the better.

I have a 59sec file that I converted from mp3 to WAV. I dropped it in the Windows folder and sure enough, it shows up on the list of allowed sounds in the alarm program. However, when I select it from the drop down list, the selection reverts to "default". Furthermore, when I try using Spb Time, I can select the tune, but it doesn't play, just silence.
Any ideas?
BTW, if I play the WAV file via File Explorer, it plays fine.

system sound file location?

does anyone know where this is located...i searched the forums and couldn't find anything, then i search my phone using tdcmp still nada. the reason i'm looking for it is i would like to add an mp3 clip to the folder so when i select the alarm i can hear the mp3 instead of the few options listed.
Firstly, all system sound files are located in the Device/Windows directory. Alarms can only be wav files unless you use a 3rd party app like wolfclock (freeware) or something similar.
You can use MP3's as ringtones only as far as I know. You can try dropping an MP3 clip in the Windows directory and let us know if it works.
Hope this helps.

Changing sound SMS

Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to change the sound of an incoming message into an mp3 file or so? I can change it in the standard sounds but want to use my own file. Is it possible?
Of course it is ! Not easy to guess at first, but I found a way to enable this.
You basically need to copy your .mp3 file (and remember its name to locate it after in the list) in the Windows folder of your device. It's a little long to load, don't be afraid, but then just paste the mp3 file in the windows folder, nowhere else, at its root.
Finally, go to sound configuration (parameters, system...) and set your mp3 file as the default SMS tone.
Enjoy !
That didnot work for me. It works when I press the "PLAY" button when configuring it but the only way it sound when I get a SMS is if I use a .wav file on the Windows folder mp3 dont work for me on SMS althoug the work on call tunes.
convert it to .wav then

Where to put sound files in order to use them as alarm clock/ ringtone?

Hi all,
I want to use my own MP3-Files for alarm clock/ ringtone, however, I cannot select the files for these applications.
As far as I can see, there are three music-folders on the device, \MUSIC, \WINDOWS\HTCTone and \WINDOWS\Rings.
Wherever I put my MP3-files, I cannot select them in the browser of the alarm clock/ ringtone app. Are there any additional registry entries needed? Or doesn't the TD2 accept MP3s for these purposes?
Thanks in advance,
Caroline
You can place MP3 files for ringtones into My Documents / My Ringtones and files for sms notification must be in windows folder. I tried to use mp3 files for alarm clock but without avail. I think it must be wav or wma file in windows directory also.
Edit: I've tried it and it must be .wav file.

hi bro, so u put the *.wav file into which folder? thanks.
Hi, .wav file I put into windows folder and it's displayed in Ringtone menu.
On Polaris it's in
Device\Application Data\Sounds\
From there mp3s are working for SMS/MMS notifications... Reminders too...
for ringtone u can put it in storage card, must be at the main page, not inside any folder

[HOW TO] Custom Ringtones and Notifications

Just a heads up for anyone else new to WP7. You can add custom ringtones to your HD2 WP7 using Chevron Custom Ringtone Manager.
Your phone has to be Chevron unlocked for this to work. Also, your mp3s need to be converted to WMA 48KHz format. This can be done easily with Microsoft Expression Encoder 4.
I've shown here how to convert using this tool:
Once converted, you'll find the WMA file in C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Expression\Expression Encoder\Output. Now run the Chevron Ringtone manager, browse to your WMA file, and click Build Ringtone XAP.
Then install the XAP the same way as you do with any other. I recommend Tom XAP Installer.
For alarms and alerts, there's an two extra steps involved. You must rename your WMA file to Alert-01.WMA (or which ever one you want to replace). Note your original one will be overwritten.
Once you have copied it to your phone, you need to install TouchExplorer. use this to move your Alert-01.WMA file from My Documents/My Ringtones into /Windows.
------------------------------------------------
An alternative is to sync your music with Zune, and then use TouchExplorer to copy one of your MP3s from My Documents/Zune/Content/xxx folder and put it into your My Ringtones folder. This works too
I've tested both methods and they both work great.
If you have any problems with it, just ask and I'll try to help.
Its also possible to copy mp3 files to My ringtones folder, I checked it by copying a random mp3 file from zune folder =)
I wonder if you can add extra alert or alarm files by just using higher numbers instead replacing the files? Didnt try this yet because it takes ages to load the windows folder...
Why the hell did MS use the folder to store all the files without any sub folders =S
Does the mp3 work as a ringtone? I didn't think this worked.
yep using it without a problem =)

It's tricky if you dont know where to look.
Using Touch Epxplorer, browse to My Documents > Zune > Content > 0100
The files will have different filenames. Just find the one you want as a ringtone by playing it (double tapping it). THen rename it and copy it to the My Ringtones folder

Thanks for the fast reply
That is the problem, all the files is numbered with no original names.
Is there a way to go around this ?

Unfortunately not...that's just the way that Zune transfers files when you sync...it does this with all files.

I had this problem too.
You can just delete the ringtone from the ringtone folder using Touchxplorer. (My Documents\My Ringtones)
When using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4, do not select WMA Professional. I did this in error and although the ringtones sounded good on the computer, the phone played them horribly.
Select WMA, then 48kHz.
If you select WMA and 48kHz is not an option, convert to WMA Professional at 48kHz, then import the new file and convert to WMA at 48kHz. Worked like a charm for me!
YES YOU CAN USE MP3 FILES AS RINGTONES BUT IF YOU WANT TO ADD ALERTS OR ALARMS YOU HAVE TO CONVERT THESE TO WMA FILES & RENAME THEM TO Alert-01 or alarm-01 in windows folder.

There's no need for the CAPS. And I also already explained this in the first post.
Anyone know where alerts are found (ie SMS/email alerts) would be good to change these too, I assume it would work using the same method (TouchXplorer)
I did the alternative method of syncing with ZUNE and did exactly what was said on the post and i was able to do it BUT when i set it for my ringtone it does not want to play.? I tried several songs from ZUNE(All i can listen to) and have the same problem. I can hear them before i do the method but after that there is no sound when i select it for my ringtone. I do have everything installed as the post says. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?? Any help please!!!

wtf i cant set a custom ringtone?

I tried to set a ringtone for the galaxy s10+.
Every time i try to change the ringtone, it tells me it cant set that file as ringtone. I tried ogg, m4a and mp3. They play fine with the media player on android, and also on pc.

I don't know how you set it as a ringtone, but what I always do is:
Connect my phone to the PC
Open file explorer and navigate to my Phone
Dig into the folder and find the folder named "Ringtones"
Then I just drag and drop or you can copy/paste the mp3 file of your choice there
After that, you go to your phone's sound settings and look for the file name of your mp3 file
I open up Samsung music, start the song in full page, and tap the 3 dots top right. Set As in the dropdown let's you choose Phone ringtone, Caller ringtone or Alarm tone.
