I know there is another Communicaiton Manager out there, but all I want to do is replace the Wireless Modem entry in the default AT&T Communication Manager with Internet Sharing.
I looked around in the Registry and found some data for CommMgr, but did not see a pointer to the app to run.
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Don
I tried as well, doesn't work.
I think you'd need a new comm manager. It's probably a hard link in the DLLs. And to replace them I think you need to cook a new rom.
I've been wondering this also. I installed duttythroy's black 3g comm manager and it still has wireless modem even though the screen shots showed it as ICS.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they do the same function? Don't fix what ain't broke.

Not as far as I can tell. When you use ICS, the phone connects as a Windows Mobile Netwirk device. When you use Wireless Modem, it connects as a modem and requires the AT&T Comm manager program and it appears that you are not running 3G data directly but making a cell phone call using the modem.
For me, getting an incomming call will bump the wireless modem but not the ICS connection.
I cant even get Wireless Modem to work, but ICS works great over USB and Bluetooth. Thats why i'd like to change it.
1) I installed SMS chat thread v 1.0 which did not work. i think it is designed for touch screens and I have an HTC s730. I used the WM remove programs tool but it left behind several folders which can be seen only on the folders screen for messaging. I lso have no confirmation after send feature. The company, vito technology has not responded. Any ideas?
2)can anyone recommend a GOOD sms app for the HTC S730?
thanks!
How can I make absolutely sure my phone doesn't connect to 3G/EDGE unintentionally? I don't want it to default to this when it can't connect to a specific WiFi-signal, since my calling plan has terrible rates for data transfers.

i may have the perfect solution for this....(especially if you're operator is Tmobile)
go to start>settings>connections>connections.
manage existing modem connections.
tap and hold that connection located there and delete it.
now without connecting to a wifi signal, open your browser and type a site (ex. google.com) and if that edge/3g doesn't pop up, SUCCESS!!!
hope it works and good luck.
Is there registry hack to force phone to ask user confirmation before connecting using GPRS/EDGE/3G. All normal phones has that...

I'm not recognizing the menu choices there, is this for a s730? I did try to change user name and password in GRPS settings under Start>settings>connections>GPRS, but that didn't seem to help either.
What omadon99 suggested about a registry hack would be perfect, since I don't want to permanently disable 3G/EDGE, I just don't want the phone to connect to it and cost me money without confirmation when WiFi doesn't work.
Hi everyone,
I've been searching for a solution for my problem on here through the forum's search and the Google search all day but haven't found one yet so I'm finally throwing my hands up in frustration and posting hoping that some of the very talented and kind folks online can help me out.
I bought an AT&T Tilt last month and the pocket IE worked fine on it when I was using it with AT&T in Northern California. I am using Dutty's WM6 rom and the .17 radio.
I then flew out to Islamabad, Pakistan where I am currently staying. I used the SIM-unlocker found on this forum and everything seemed ok. Pocket IE continued to work on my network here (Mobilink, they have GPRS and EDGE). Then suddenly 2 weeks ago, pocket IE stopped working. Now whenever I try to load a page in it, it just gets stuck at "Locating" and the animation looking for the website keeps going in circles. It never finds the site. I've tried all kinds of different websites and always no luck.
At the same time, Opera works 100% without any sort of problem. Also I am able to use the built-in WM6 e-mail manager to check my Gmail over IMAP over the same GPRS/EDGE connection so I know my connection is fine. Pocket IE still doesn't work. I checked in connection settings to make sure there was no proxy enabled, that both my networks were set to my provider (mobilink)'s connection settings and I double-checked my connection settings with my provider. I feel as if it isn't their fault since all my colleagues are able to use their phones and the Internet and even on my device, the other applications such as Opera and built-in mail work. I also downloaded the Gmail java applet and even that works perfectly.
I'm at my wit's end about what I should do or try that could make a difference and I would sincerely appreciate any help anyone can offer. I've heard of a disablehiddenproxy option but have so far been unable to find that .cab file anywhere that I could download it...and I'm not sure if that fix would apply for me since I am no longer using the AT&T/Cingular network.
Please help! Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Hi,
I'm back with a solution to my own problem, it seems!
I did find the disablehiddenproxy.cab here and installed it.
I then did a soft reset (pushed the stylus into the little reset hole) and when the phone turned back on, pocket internet explorer is once again working perfectly.
Thank you XDA developers for providing all this information for free!
thanks - you just saved my day.
i was clueless to why my PIE didnt work all of a sudden - and now it works again...

Hi Everybody,,having problems with 3G speed and can't figure out why?
I am in Calgary, with HTC Tytn that I have had for 1 1/2 years. Ever since I could see them experimenting with 3G (could see the icon) I was waiting for the day that I could see the benefits of 3G. Well,, my speed of download is miserable, even with full 3G bars. I have all the proper icons showing up on top, 3G,, and when downloading internet page I see the H icon appear. An aquaintance in Winnipeg, said that he almost gets Wifi speed with 3G.. I have put a new sim card (thought that might be a reason, because it was out of my old blackberry). I am really depressed ,especially when I went to download an internet page on a demo iPhone and was blown away by the speed, which I don't have. I now hve Schaps 4.31 and Radio 1.51,, and basically, since owning the unit have never had the speed. Can anyone possibly help me figure out what is wrong? Perhaps over chat, skype? I have always used Lurch's settings whenever I put in a new Rom, and I feel that all HSDPA is enabled through Schaps config, and elsewhere. Any help would be most welcome. I still love my TyTN,, Thanks for any help you can give to me. I have of course IE browser, but also Opera
worked for me too
But what the heck caused it in the first place.

Wowwww....Thank you so much for the solution mate. Saved me a lot of time. You are awesome!!!
awesome, thanks!
That does fix it for me as well.
Thanks
You just saved me to. PIE stopped working for no reason a few months back. I have been looking for a fix without sucess untill now. Thanks once again!
Gas Addict - another thank you - worked like a charm.
For my education - can anyone explain the hidden proxy issue.
What is it? where did it come from? and where did it go to? and why was the problem intermittent? PIE locked only 80% of the time - sometimes it worked OK only to fail again... Tks again
The hidden proxy, is exactly what is says it is...A hidden proxy. The proxy allows AT&T users to connect to medianet services via their phone's internet connection. If you disable the proxy you will not be able to connect to medianet services (such as typing "home" and it takes you to AT&T's medianet site).
If you are not using AT&T then you should have it disabled in the first place. My guess is that some piece of software enabled the this proxy somehow. All the cab does is reset IE to autodetect if there is a proxy, which can also be done in Kaisertweaks.
Nothing too exciting to reveal, but since all you guys wondered what it did, i thought i'd look and let you know. It's just a provisional xml file that inputs some settings and registry edits.
Did you mean "If you are not using AT&T then you should have it DISabled in the first place"?

yes, that is what i meant
It is fixed
Thank you for the CAB file. The file fixed my IE issue on unlocked ATT Tilt on Rogers Network.
Pocket IE back in line
No idea why my PocketInternetExplorer could all of a sudden only open locally stored .htm files, but nothing on internet anymore. OperaMini 4, OperaMobile 10 and SkyFire browsers continued working without any problem.
A few applications rely on a functioning PIE, so could not be used as a result.
Luckily this .CAB did the trick for me too, many thanks Gass Addict!

Hi,
I decided to try out a different ROM before totally giving up on this phone. I previous had an unofficial ROM as well but even that I found often unresponsive. Anyway, I'm on a Win 6.5 ROM with TF3D disabled and it actually works much better. Except I can't get to any web sites. I configured the network settings as usual and now I get http 403 for any site I try and connect to. Using IE for mobile since the ROM doesn't have Opera, although I may try and get Opera on there when I have some time. Anyone had this problem before?
Other info: Using the SFR network (France) with access point "wapsfr". Which is how it was prior to flashing the ROM.
Thanks
when you say "configured the network settings" do you mean you did it manually or did you run the connection setup wizard which you get after the ROM if first installed??
Also, what ROM did you flash to?
I tried both ways, and got the same result. I'm at work now so I don't know the exact ROM I flashed to, I'll have to check that when I get home. Thanks.
ok, this is the one I installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551294
It's quite good actually, except I don't like the keyboard for texting, too small, otherwise it's very nice. But anyway, would be nice to get the internet working on there too
typically a 403 indicates a permissions error.
can you double check your setting again by going to:
start-settings-connections-connections-advanced-select networks
click the top edit button and check everything on this page is correct. Also, make sure you are not using any proxy settings.
Just checked all that and it seems to be ok, and proxy is unchecked. Any other ideas? I think I'm going to try running the auto config again and see if it helps at all. Thanks.
If that still doesn't work, try to do a hard reset and see what happens.
still doesn't work, haven't tried hard reset yet, but I don't think I'll time to play with it today, I think this weekend I'm going to try a different ROM altogether. Hopefully the internet will work
ok so I've installed this ROM now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563245
I used mtty like he says in his thread to use. Tried the autoconfigure which didn't work at all since it uses "websfr" for the access point name, changed t to "wapsfr" but then I still get the 403 error. This is really driving me crazy, the ROM is so good but I can't get the internet to work on it. Anyway, if you have any other suggestions let me know. Thanks.
ok actually, turns out it was internet explorer (go figure), I installed opera mobile and it works fine. So maybe SFR blocks IE ??? I find that kind of strange, but it works fine with Opera, so now I just hope works with google maps and I'm cool
has anyone figured out a way to get the GPS to work with any nav software (i have the Garmin SD card) or use the HTC Internet Sharing without having to give AT&T the extra dough every month?
Also, do these features work with a new ROM?
thanks guys!
GPS on Pure is not locked so even with the AT&T stock ROM you should be able to run you nav software. I personally have tried Google Maps, Bing and TomTom, all working fine, so I don't think there should be a reason for Garmin not to work.
Haven't checked the Internet Sharing with stock ROM though because impatience just drove me putting a cooked ROM onto the device before I really explored all the stock ROM features/bloatwares. However, I can confirm that Internet Sharing works like a charm with my current ROM (I'm running Duttys at this point and am going to try out EnergyROM pretty soon).
Hope this helps.
do u have a direct link to where i can get the ROM you are using?

I'm using the stock rom that comes from ATT Pure.
I installed Garmin, Google Maps and Bing and all of them are working without making any change to registries or any trick.
definitively the GPS is not locked on the original ATT Rom
Following along with the others in this thread. Third party GPS tools seem to work well.
As far as Internet Sharing, you'll want to check this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437796
Is anyone else having this issue (having searched, haven't found 'lest I'm blind )
On my AT&T Pure, have GPSToday (full app, not the "today screen" version) and Bing. Both have worked fine on my old Kaiser, when GPS running, the apps both actively download new map sections as I go...
However...
On the Pure, if I open either app and run GPS, the app doesn't update maps, but when I stay in the app and turn OFF the GPS, both apps will start downloading map data (from the centerpoint of the last GPS position...
it's almost like there's something in the Pure (or some setting I've screwed up?) that shuts off these apps' access to the data network when the GPS is on... I'll test that this afternoon after my class, by allowing GPS to run in Bing and seeing if IE will hit the Internet... but in the meantime, just wondering if anyone else is/has experienced this?

Great, worked for At&t Pure. I'm now using MEdia Net. You may be able to change the registry key Value from At&t ISP Net to MEdia Net so you won't have to deal with accdidently clicking the drop-down when you connect.

Just install this cab and set both your networks to MediaNet and you can tether.
How do i get the ATT Pure to Share the Internet
I can't get the phone to to the internet sharing, I have uninstalled the proxy but to no good. If you go to the program for intenet sharing I dont get any option, I click to connect and the error message says unable to connect. Is there a register edit to be done or do i have to pay ATT more $$$$ for the service?

First go to Settings\Connections\Connections\Advanced\Select Networks and set both to Media Net, click OK.
Then go to Tasks\Manage Existing Connections\Proxy Settings and check "This network connects to the internet" and uncheck "This network uses a proxy server", also remove the proxy server settings.
For the second part, it may be greyed out if you're on the stock ROM, if so, install the RemoveHiddenProxy.cab posted previously.
having problems again and again on just unlocking the phone so I can put a new ROM on it. I too want to use the tethering on my HTC Pure from AT&T. Have a link to a simple process to unlock and push the ROM?
